We’re going to break down the Mavs 129119 defeat at the hands of Luca, LeBron, Austin Reeves, and the LA Lakers. My name is Bobby Krell. We got Ron Haraj Jr. in here. Ron, what’s up? Hey, how’s everybody doing? Really bringing the verb out of the gate. Convincing convincing emotion. Sorry, I’m just tweeting the show to the masses. We got Mark Stein posting trying to grow the audience. Mark is dialing up the Stein line. Which shoes are these, Mark? These are Patrick’s, which is a There’s no free promos. Oh, no free promos. I can’t talk about my shoes. He asked me a question. Okay, it’s too late now. Go ahead. Promo if you’re an old school soccer fan from the 80s. Yeah, I fell in. This brand means a lot. But that’s probably probably not probably not where we should lead the show after after a Mavs reunion with Luca Donic. Take care. We got Tanner, producer. Hello, Tanner. Super producer. I never know Tanner. Should I call you by your full name or do you like being called producer Tanner? You can either Tanner Rottman’s good. Producer Tanner. All right, we got Tanner Rottman. Producer Tanner. Magnus Carlson. Any of them. So, we got Magnus in the house. Um, yeah, we’re going to talk about what happened. And uh there it for a game that like it was kind of in the balance for a little bit, but it never really super felt, especially in the final five minutes or so of the fourth quarter, it never really felt like it was in question. Still feels like there’s a lot to talk about from this game though. So, we’re going to dive into that over the course of the next hour. Obviously, you know, an emotional and frustrating night for many Mavs fans still after what happened with the trade and everything, but um you know, we’re going to try and You actually sound decent. Much better than I would have expected. I mean, I’m I’m at peace with Yeah, you’re at peace with the with the fate that has befallen us. Yes, you’re at peace. Not with not with the trade, not with the fact that like I I said this as Luca was getting MVP chance at the end of the game. I said like he used to get MVP chance on the road with the Mavs. Like when do you think the next time is that a Maverick will hear MVP chance? Well, like deserving. Maybe like maybe like December of Well, they’ll give you MVP chance. The question is, will they be deserved? No one is going to chant MVP for any Mavs anytime soon. This is not going to happen. I’m telling you, Coupe scores like 40 whenever that happens. 13 tonight. I know if if he does like a he’s Yeah, it’d be a little bit I’m sorry, everybody. It’d be Nepard get an ROI chant. I will chant MVP for Ryan. I was chanting for Ryan Neard. Even Even if if everyone wants Cooper to win that award, Ryan Nebard could still get at least a chant or two. Well, they’re gonna have to shut down 50 starting around game 53. We do have to get the game counter fired up. I got to figure that out. Um, again, 129 119 final score in LA. Austin Reeves with 38, Luca with 35. Austin Reeves, PJ Washington had a 22 for the Mavs. They actually had uh what was it? Eight guys in double figures, I think. Pretty well balanced effort from them tonight. 119 is a lot for them. Um, I mean, they scored at a pretty decent clip. They had a 123 offensive rating. I mean, they they did a lot of things well, I thought. Um, but they just couldn’t defend. I mean, they You know who wasn’t traded on February 2nd? Austin Reeves. Oh, yeah. And uh yeah, I agree with you. I agree with you on that one, Mark. Uh we’re gonna talk about Luca and defending Luca or lack thereof and the game plan and how good he is and all of that stuff in the next segment. Uh in the first segment though, I want to keep it as Mavs focused as possible. Uh Anthony Davis makes his comeback tonight. 28 minutes, which is right in line with the estimated minutes restriction. 12 points, five boards, five assists, three blocks, six of 10 from the floor, missed a three. Ron, I thought he was I mean, he’s obviously not playing at Lucas level. He did just miss a month, but for his first game back, I thought he was pretty effective. Yeah, I mean, I I thought Anthony Davis was overall pretty good in his game. I think he blocked I think three shots in the game. He had a pretty solid game. The problem started at center. He started center, which to be fair, the offense looked pretty good with him at center, Bobby. I mean, Ryan Nimhard, you know, with Anthony David Center had, you know, more space to operate. He played well. I I thought AD was had a overall a good game for kind of what he’s been given and he had five assists like and and Davis is not even known to really be a passer. Five assists for him is really really good. He probably wanted to do a little bit more. He probably wanted a bigger game if I would have, you know, guess what’s in Anthony Davis’s mind, but overall the team, you know, did compete essentially to the end. started at center. That’s a good thing. He’s already been ruled. I I figured you would like the lineup. Yeah, I did. I did. Ryan Nebhard starting at the point. Anthony Davis starting at the five. Two rookies PJ Max Max Corner Christie. I’m into that. I I am into that lineup. I I do like that lineup. Jason Kidd has already said, we knew this was coming, but he has already said postgame that Anthony Davis will not play tomorrow night in the second half of the Los Angeles back-to-back. Musa Cisay, you’ve got six fouls to use on Zubots against the Clippers. Two teams. I’ve been using Crisis Bowl. That’s the disappointment bowl. Yep. Mavs Clippers is a is a disappointment bowl. It’s not not Crisis Bowl is too kind. Um, Clippers lost at home to Memphis tonight. 24 to 28. 24 to 27 minutes. That was the range we were told pregame by Jason Kidd. AD exceeded it by a bit. It’s a little bit higher than I would have expected. So, I mean, he got through it, got to play his I mean, it was amazing. Amazing stat from Karthika Utha Kumar who I work with um on the Amazon team. May, you know, she looked this up that um AD’s last game as a visitor at Crypto, which I still insist on calling Staples, was February of 2019. So, he got to make his return. Second time, you know, second time that the Mavs and the Lakers have squared off with both Luca and AD on the floor. But we’re reaching, man. We’re we’re grasping. One of the one of the guys involved in that trade had a uh well I would say actually a pretty average game. Uh 35 11 and five is actually below average for Luca. Uh 125 and five for AD. You know first game in a month got outscored by Max Christie coming in the Max Christie trade. But, you know, Mark, as you’ve said many times, um, if you are a Mavs fan that wants AD out of here, you know, uh, then he’s he’s got to play. Yep. And he’s got to play like pretty well. Uh, or at least not poorly. Like I don’t think he played poorly tonight. I wouldn’t say that he dominated or anything. I thought he was fine. I mean, this is the first game after a month out. I mean, practice. He missed 14 games. Yeah. One full speed practice. But he’s got to play. Yeah. He’s got to get on the court. if I’m not sure that even if he plays the next two months that the offers that would theoretically come in between now and the deadline are going to be at the level that the Mavericks would want them. to have any chance at a representative trade offer between now and the deadline. He’s got to have 6 to 8 weeks of not of sustained availability and productive hoop for the offers to be worth considering if that’s what you want your team to do. Because look, the trade is obviously one that everyone wishes they could do over and cannot. You can’t compound it further by just trading AD away without getting some sort of return that you feel good about. Can they get to that point where they feel good about the offers on the table? Good is really relative. It’s going to be tough. Yeah, I mean he’s gonna have to play basketball like like Mark said for them to get anything even 75% of what they would hope to get. He’s gonna have to play 10, 20 games, 15 games, something just to have more tape out there. I mean, think before this game, I think he played five. This is his sixth game of the season, and clearly he’s been hurt in one of the games. Only play like five minutes in that game. They have to play more games, everybody, for to kind of showcase what he can bring. I do still think he can swing a team in the East, but maybe that’s Copium and maybe that’s me hoping that, you know, we’ll see what happens. But I I just he’s going to have to play basketball for for him to get anything for him. I The good thing is, you know, if he comes Oh, he’s back now. But like if if he actually like plays well, right, like is productive and stays healthy, stays on the floor and everything, they’re still probably going to lose a lot of games. So it’s, you know, there’s they have the second toughest remaining straight the schedule in the NBA. And it might even be number one now. I need to check. But um no, it’s it’s they’re still second. But um they’re losing they’re losing all the time. So the worry like 3 weeks ago was that if you came back quickly, well, they’re playing a bunch of soft teams. They’re it’s a very soft stretch of schedule. So they might you might come back, they might win five straight games and all of a sudden you’re not you’re not, you know, counting ping pong balls anymore. You might be pushing for a playing spot. I don’t think anyone has any illusions of that happening anytime soon. So, um, you know, it’s kind of the best for it’s it’s best for all involved if he comes back and plays well. Uh, it’s good for him, it’s good for the Mavs, it does not affect lottery stuff at all, most likely. Um, and we can just get this chapter over with because the guy that we’re going to talk about in the next segment and maybe we just we can take an early break, right, Tanner? Yeah. And let’s just get to it. The Mavs could not for their lives figure out how to guard Luca tonight and uh it cost them the game like basically from the opening tip and we’re going to talk about that and a lot more right after this on the DLS maps postgame show. But first, beef prices, chicken, pork, everything, all kinds of meat prices going way up all the time. Okay, everything is more expensive at a grocery store, but uh not anymore. Okay. Not if you go to Wild Fork Foods meat and seafood market. They’ve got over 700 items uh including 500 at under $10 per pound. They got beef. They got everything from beef and normal fish and chicken and pork and all that stuff. The stuff that you might be used to cooking to the more exotic stuff like ostrich for example or kangaroo. But if you’re like me and you don’t know what you’re doing in the kitchen, they have a bunch of experts there on site that are going to tell you how to cook that stuff. Even if you’re like me, you might not know what to do with ground beef. Okay? Maybe you’re an expert and you’re like, “I’ve always wanted to try rabbit.” Uh, well, they can help you prepare that. All of this stuff is blast frozen. You will be the first person to thaw it. It is very reasonably priced and they’re very helpful as well. Their organic grass-fed ground beef, 85% lean, is 560 each when you buy two. That’s about the best I’ve seen out there. You got to try them out at one of their nine area DFW locations. Okay, we got some super chats, too, by the way. Uh yeah, we’ll get super chats in the next segment. We got to talk about Luca. We got to talk about Luca. Um something we haven’t done in a in a long time. 35 points, 11 assists, five boards. Good. Four turnovers to 11 assists. That’s still pretty good. all day long wearing a mask of false bravado. [Laughter] Luca, come back. Uh, opening tip, Lakers win. Smile. Mavs double him in the back court and he finds Austin Reeves wide open for three. And if that wasn’t a harbinger of things to come. Um, Mavs doubled Luca all night. Still had 35 points. First possession. Yep. Trap. Hadn’t even crossed half court. Didn’t work. You know why? because they didn’t want him to have a big game. You know what happened in the end? Yeah, he had a big game. He still had a big game. He only had an average game. 35 points for average game. Average. Average. 99.9 percentile. When will be the next time Anthony Davis scores 35 points in a game? Will it be in the the year of our Lord 2025? I say no chance. Trying to keep up a smile to hide a tear. What did you think of the decision to double Luca all night? I personally we we talked pregame about just how good of a passing team this is. If you double some really good elite passers, normally they’ll just find an open person. Him and Austin Reeves and even LeBron did it all night. They made a crap ton of threes and they were they How did he only have 11 assists? It felt like he had 11 assists in the first quarter. A lot of hockey assists. Yeah, I would say a lot of hockey assists and a lot of other guys were getting assists on the squad. I mean, I I didn’t like the doubles. There was a couple of double teams. I’m like, “Okay, you could double him right there, maybe from the wing where he has to pass the ball all the way across the board to get a good pass, but they were like freaking doubling from one person away, which you just can’t do.” Like, I don’t know, man. Lucas is probably the second best passer in the league. I would say that the Joker is the best and he’s probably the best like with the ball in his hand like for the usage that he has and if you’re doubling him, he’s going to find open men and he did all night. Austin Reeves, I was a career night having 28 a game this season, but he had a big night because of that. I mean, they were, dude, it was Jackson Hayes and it was Aiden. They were taking turns setting these high screens for Luca in the second half. And you had 80 and Gaffford following those guys all the way out to the other side of the three-point line. Sometimes this is 25, 30 feet from the rim. They’re stepping out at the level of the screen trying to get the ball to Luca’s hands. And Gafford is hobbled. AD is hobbled. Those guys stood no chance, Mark. Like he was able to get around them and through them almost like they weren’t even there. But as the sun goes down, I get that empty feeling again. I mean, oh my god, listen. Robbie’s getting red. it there was no surprise like he’s he just finds a way and then you know Reeves Reeves cold like that’s what made it even worse the Lakers have shot the ball terribly this season that’s been something they’ve been openly lamenting and and worrying about so of course this is the game what did Ree what did Reeves shoot from three about 40 of 42 only six for eight, only 12 for 15 from the field. And he did make some tough threes, but a lot of them were open, man. I mean, everything was just open. And that’s, you know, all of the reasons that like I used to make fun of teams for doubling Luca or like all the all of those things still exist even if he’s not a just get into the lane at will whenever he wants kind of athlete. Um, he’s 6’8 and he can see everything. He has eyes in the back of his head. Like doubling him is only making his job easier. You could see him like laughing as he’s trying these passes because he can see exactly who’s open and he can find that guy. He’s throwing zigzag passes 40 50 feet across the court on the money with two guys in his face and like you know this isn’t specifically directed at Jason Kidd because Rick Carlile used to coach him too. Yeah. But if you coach him, you know that he’s capable of beating that every single time. And he did every sing. Now, okay, he committed four turnovers. But you doubled him all night. He still had 35 and 11. Like at some point, you just say, “Dude, if he wants to go for 60, just let him go for 60.” But like, we’re not going to leave Austin Reeves wide open for three. Yeah. We’re not going to leave Ruie wide open for three from the corner whenever he’s like 25 p feet away. And for Luca, that’s just a flick of the wrist. Like, you cannot double him. You cannot I used to laugh anytime guys would go under the screen or whenever guys would double Luca every single time. And it’s just I just I don’t know why that decision was made. I don’t know if it would have affected the outcome of the game at all, but like tonight is the perfect example one of what makes Lucas so good and why you never trade a guy that can do that. Number two, it is such a important demonstration of what the Mavs are missing on offense. Hey, Ryan Nhard, I thought he had a good game. and we’ll talk about him in the next segment, but the Mavs do not have a single player that can beat a double team. Every single guy on their team, whenever they have whenever they are doubled, they completely freak out. Okay? They have some guys that can dribble and keep their head up. They can dribble and keep looking around, find open guys, find shooters. They have very few shooters that teams have to respect. So, you need a super highlevel playmaker in order to create anything, in order to make anything look easy for this Mavs team. If you drop Kyrie on the floor, it’s different. Okay, if you drop Luca on the floor, it’s different. But without those guys, everything becomes so much tougher. Now, the Mavs were still able to have a pretty good offensive game tonight, but this used to be them. Like, the way the Lakers played tonight used to be how we got to watch the Mavs play. You know, it’s just so much fun. Everything is so easy. Everything flows. Everyone is wide open all the time. It’s just so much more effective. And that’s why the Lakers are where they are. And that’s why the Mavs are where they are right now. Well, I mean, I’m trying to tread lightly here because I know that this is deep. It hurts. It’s very, very painful. I’m trying to make light of it cuz I don’t know what else to do. But, I mean, I think really since February, I’ve been calling it the 77 stages of grief because there are still so many more levels to go. I mean that this is like I don’t know if we really want to go down this road right now after midnight after the first meeting of the season with the Luca le Lakers but like they have not yet put a team around him that that they haven’t been able to they haven’t had this past summer they had very limited fi financial flexibility they were able to get and Marcus Smart and Lavravia on very favorable contracts they did as much as they good in the short term, but just imagine when the Lakers actually have cap space to really put the precise parts around him that are needed. Much like the Mavs day, you know, one of the, you know, if we were going to make a list of the 25 things about that trade that are the most painful to stomach, pretty high on the list would be that the Mavs traded all their draft assets to build the most Luca-esque roster they could. And that team went, was it 14 and three before the Christmas Day? Yes. Calf strain. like it had just started had, you know, not even its first 20 game burst together. The team that was specifically built to complement all of Luca’s skills and gifts. And that team was broken up before it had the chance to really show what it could do after a finals run. And again, just imagine where the Lakers are going to be when they’re able to put a really smart fitting roster around him again. They’ve I think they’ve done they can do that this summer. Yeah. I mean, so that’s what I’m saying is like the Lakers are good now, but they’re, you know, obviously OKC is, you know, the team to beat and then some for not just everyone in the West, but the whole NBA, but like the Lakers you see now are only going to to get better. They’ve done the hard part. They got the guy. Luca is there. He just signed a long-term extension. They’re only going to keep putting a better team around him. And then man, like again, that’s why in some ways I I hate to say it, but like this is the early stages of the pain. It is. And Ron, I asked you this after the after the game. Um well, first off, Luca now in three games against the Mavs in his career, 33 points per game, 10 assists per game, nine rebounds per game. Good. Uh and three and 0. And Ron, I asked you after the game, maybe this is on the watch along, I don’t remember. When is the next time you think the Mavs will beat the Lakers? It won’t. Assuming Luca plays, it won’t be this season. I I don’t think they’ll beat them this season. I’m going to be completely honest with you. It’s going to have to be pro like the earliest I’m I don’t know what the math three years from now. We just have no idea what the math team is going to look like next year. So, I can’t like give a take on the next year Mavericks when like half this team will more than likely be different if this is probably how they would like this team to go. And who knows that the Mets have to win games next year. They don’t have a pick that they can have control of. They have to win games next year. So, they’re going to try to have a strong squad next season. I don’t know, you know, how capable they’re going to be to do something like that, but they’re hoping that they can do something like that with Kyrie Irv and coming back and players such as that. So, so they’re going to hope that that win at least comes next year. But like Marcus already kind of outlined, this is the worst we’ll see of the Los Angeles Lakers. They’re probably going to sign Austin Reeves back. LeBron, we’ll see what happens with that. But they’re going to go get their team that surrounds Luca and probably Austin Reeves to build for the future and that’s probably going to happen. The way that Luca and Austin Reeves are vibing, you know, the Lakers obviously hope that Austin Reeves can. I mean, Jaylen Brunson was so good at this that like Jaylen Brunson could still find a way to be excellent. Yeah. And Luca and Kyrie, too, same playing. Yeah. And it’s like, so Austin Reeves is now I mean, he’s next guy up. Yeah. Today he shot it perfect. So it’s not going to you’re not he’s not going to shoot 12 of 15 and six for eight from three every night, but like you can see the way they get along. Like they are building that is going to be their back court. Like I just don’t see the Lakers letting Austin Reeves go and they’re just gonna they’re going to gradually overtime round out the team and you know Luca’s 26. Twice in Luca’s career he’s had a pretty dang good running mate in the back court and he made it to the Western Conference Finals and the NBA finals. Um yeah, so that’s really cool. Uh and went 14 and three. The first time are you talking about Spencer Denwi? is uh yeah when when it was Luca and Denwitty they went to the conference finals and then whenever it was Luca and uh who was the third guard Dante Luca and Dante they made it to the finals. That’s hilarious. Um Spencer Denwitty was a very good third guard on the guard on the 2122 team. I must say he also was on the sideline today sitting next to Floyd Mayweather. I have to laugh so I don’t cry. Mark God that was Tanner like that was a look that was dark. That was a That was dark, Tanner. That was dark as you guys can’t tell that. 700 people watching. Yeah, those of us watching the show can’t see what we just saw, but Tanner, producer Tanner, who normally should have normally bubbly face, who normally keeps his head behind the computer cuz he’s feverishly working. Producer Tanner made sure to move away from his computer and look us all right in the eyes with deep sadness. Puffy when he said that. Man, that was dark. just even beyond okay like disregard all the emotions do the do the stoic toxic masculinity I don’t care about anything I am so strong and powerful your opinions mean nothing to me um strictly from an entertainment value perspective like god it is so much fun to watch guards do stuff with the ball I’m a fan of guard play like watching Luc that’s another one for the list of the top 25 and it probably could be a top 77 list of reasons why that trade is so difficult to stomach. And again, you could fun to watch you could go back to February. We said it in February, March, April. Probably stopped in May when they won the lottery. We took a we took a break. But it’s like you to win in the NBA today, you have to also have dynamic offense. You you have to have both. What is dynamic offense? This was this is a perfect example. Okay. In the third quarter, the Lakers ran a play where Luca came off a screen. There was literally nothing there, but he just took like a seven foot step back and hit a step back three with a dude right in his face. Nothing there became three points. The next time down the floor, okay, the ensuing possession, Brandon Williams comes off a screen. Yeah, nothing is there. The possession died cuz he could he had to work so hard just to do something. Like when you have guys that can just do whatever they want, regardless of what the opponent is doing, you hang on to those guys with all of your might, with everything you have, you do whatever it takes to get as many of those dudes as you possibly can on your team. The Lakers have two. LeBron stunk tonight. He was awful for most of the game. He’s playing himself into shape right now because he has been out forever. Imagine how good they’re going to be whenever he gets up to speed. They have three of those guys. The Mavs have none. They had one, they gave him away. Okay. Um, from a a tactical standpoint, those guys break the game. From an entertainment standpoint, they’re fun to watch 82 times per year. Uh, but at least the Mavs did score 119 points tonight. So, we do have that to hold on to. Um, and yes, Kevin Grace said in the comments, “By the way, DL was a DNP tonight.” Welld deserved. It’s also I mean but again it’s just the calamity of it all where it’s like the guard you sign this off season who gets the player option is a DNP in the game against Luca and Austin Reeves and it again if you’re just a Mavs fan all those things lining up like it’s cool to see Ryan Emar do what he do do what he did which we’ll talk about that later but the guy you signed to be the starting point guard until Kyrie Irving can make it back as D’Angelo Russell and he didn’t play last night now he did have an illness two games ago, but he played the game previous to that. So, he’s he wasn’t an injury report. He’s healthy. He just didn’t play because they didn’t feel like he fit the rotation. And I that’s just a very sad thing to see from a mass family. That was kind of the big guard signing you had of free agency. And a player like Russell Westbrook is having a good year in Sacramento. All right, coming up next, we’re going to talk about some leftover stuff from the game. How’d Coupe look? Hey, Ryan Nhard, he had a really good game. Uh, and then some, uh, who knows what else. And we’ll get to some of your super. But when the morning comes, I’m right back where I started again on the DLS mass postgame show. But first, if you’re anything like me and you got a checking account, a savings account, you got credit cards, you got maybe some investment accounts, maybe you got some crypto, who knows, you got all sorts of stuff going on. Matthew Hook, shout out. $2 super chat. Whoever thought AD was a top 15 player was drunk. AD has been a top 15 player throughout a lot of his career. Yeah, I must be fried then, buddy. No, it’s And it wasn’t the Michelob, it was something else. Uh but no, once he uh you know, the Mavs need him to be at that level if they want to train him for sure. And we said that going into the season, like they need they for this team to do what it wanted to do, he needs to be a two-way monster. And obviously the health hasn’t been there to be able to do that. And you know, the objectives are completely different now. Yeah, definitely. The objectives are all lottery related. Now, no matter what is said, we will keep saying it on this show because that is that’s what this season is about. Now, the reality Lance with the 499. Dallas better make that trade before AD gets a season ending injury. Knock on wood. I think Well, I mean, I I don’t want anyone to suffer a season ending injury, but No, that sucks. um you know there’s only what two months and like a week before the trade deadline and so if it get if I mean if if they’re going to have to take a really really bad deal to trade him you’re better off not trading him you know what I mean I think you’re better off hanging on to him until the offseason or until next season whether he’s banged up or whether he is uh playing not very well or whatever the case is if you can’t get a good deal you should not do the sunk cost thing uh Vinnie Poop Mark Stein with the $799 I believe that Australian Bucks or maybe something else. I don’t know. Mark Stein, let’s say the Mavs are willing to part ways with Anthony Davis. Are there any players that the Mavs are narrowing kind of focusing on via trade? No, it it hasn’t even he just got back on the floor. It’s way premature to even talk about it. Do you know of any like roster needs that they feel like do they do you think that they think they need to upgrade a back court or add front court depth with Lively or out or anything? I mean, look, obviously with Lively Lively’s injury situation, the front court, which was supposed to be the strength of this team, is by no means certain, but I think the the question, the first question would be what sort of draft capital could he command in a trade? And that and that’s the thing. and what you you know kind of the and again I don’t want to I don’t want to paint this as gospel because it’s still so early in the game to me but you know I know our our pal Tim McMahon you know they they’ve kind of laid the way they’ve kind of phrased it the ESPN guys is that this is likely to be closer to a Kevin Durant return than obviously obviously you’re you can’t even pretend to think that you’re going to get anything close to what you gave up because there’s you’re not getting an all NBA player. There’s there’s no way back. But it’s like can you get is is one first the best you can hope for? Is two first the best you can hope for. And that’s what I’m saying. It’s so premature. There’s no I can’t answer the question. I would love I wish I could. I wish I knew the answer, but because I know there’s another super chat here asking like am I you know who’s that? Which one? Uh Connor, can you can you read it? Read it cuz it’s related. Connor with the $5 super. Uh has Stein heard the sustained play requirements from sources or is it an educated guess? I don’t get why a few weeks makes a difference with 80s history. Yes, Connor. It’s this is what people around the league are saying. This is what rival executives are saying because it’s true the next two months is not going to change the totality of Anthony Davis’s injury history. But for anything to happen at this trade deadline specifically, teams have to see something now. They have to see evidence, something to hope that they don’t want to trade for an injured guy the way the Mavs did whenever they traded for it. It does what what I started to say I think and I think I said it in the first segment. Hopefully I said it pretty clearly. Even a good December and January does not guarantee that the Mavs are going to get offers that they consider palatable. But there’s no chance of it unless there’s some sustained availability and productivity. So even if we see that in the next two months, again, I don’t think a trade is guaranteed. It’s obviously going to depend on the Mavericks made, you know, I I don’t know if they’re ever going to come out and say it, but they made a trade they wish they didn’t make. I think that’s pretty clear. I think if we could hook them up to lie detectors, that’s the answer we would get. Now, are we ever going to get that admission publicly? I don’t know. But you can’t compound it by making another trade, by just giving Anthony Davis away. You have to hope if the plan is to move him, you got to hope he can establish some level of value that gives the Mavericks the opportunity to pivot. Laner, with the $5 super mark, according to your sources, how much influence did Jay Kidd have on the Luca trade? Luca didn’t acknowledge kid at all tonight or uh in the past. And then later, Laner ends it with Laner’s words, fire kid. I mean, that’s one that, you know, we constantly get. Yeah. And I don’t I don’t know what’s changed really. I mean, obviously, if there’s no interaction from them, it suggests that I think we know where Luca stands on it. So, I don’t know. I don’t know. We got to keep digging at that one. I guess that’ll be for the tell all one day. Yeah. Maybe you’ll write it, Mark. I mean, when I learn more, hopefully, again, I don’t think the reporting on this thing is ended either. The reporting will continue. Oh, there’ll be more. I mean, it’s never going to end. It’s never going to end. I was about to say that myself. It is kind of fun to read about. So, I would I would like there to be more. Uh, super chat. Ira five buckaroos. I’m a Rangers, Mav Sabers, and Corn Husker fan. How much Michelob Ultra do I need to taste victory? At least my Patriots are winning. First off, hey, solidarity. Uh, and then uh thoughts on A Nate Amed. I’m assuming so. Unless it’s Amand maybe A. They have something in common cuz I’m Let’s go. Oh, okay. I mean, good good player. I mean, he’s probably going to be around that Mavs range of draft pick if I had to guess. So, he’s he’s probably like a 34. He could probably play with flag. He hasn’t shot the ball well from three. That’s not great to play with flag. Fits in perfectly. If he’s a 34, they can’t shoot. Let’s add another one. Hey, what’s up? Does he play defense? But he does. He’s He’s a good player and he’ll go around that that time that the Mavs will likely be picking unless unless they move up again. Cali Omega with a Euro 99. It’s 6 a.m. in North Wales. Couldn’t miss Luca and Stein. Wow. Wow. Thank you. Let’s go. Stein the symbol. Let’s go. Thank you for the super. Sheldon with $10. Uh Mark Luke is great. Oh my god. This is the doomsday scenario. OKC owns four first round picks. Two are currently top 10 picks and the Clippers lost tonight. They OKC might get AJ Debonsa. Luca can’t get past that if OKC wins the lottery. The NBA is doomed and it will be sad for all non OKC fans as Mark Stein Scurry leads for the source away. Uh OKC might win 14 championships in a row. on. I’m’ll be honest, it’s going to be a very sad day if they cash any of those top 10 picks. I’m going to be very upset. I don’t cover that team. It’s no fun for this guy right here. If they do anything positive because I don’t cover that team. I do love the NBA. It’s really fun. I don’t want to see OKC get anything else. They’ve already done everything else so well, Bobby. Now, I will say this as a fan of basketball, they do they’ve done everything right to deserve that pick. This is what you do. They’ve built the right way. They haven’t they haven’t tried to like quote unquote stack the deck with the super team thing and no one’s done anything really crazy like that. This is literally been a team a small market team built through the draft. Built through the draft. So we we’ll see man. Hopefully that doesn’t happen. But if so the Mavs are going to have to compete as a team that they’re going to see a lot. Someone’s up in North Wales. Is that what they said? Yeah. That’s awesome. appreciate. I’m honored. Uh, Bulldog with 499. T-Wolves fleece on the DLO trade immediately got better as a team. Went from Rudy trade to being a bust or went from Rudy trade being uh to bust to making it to it making sense. Uh, LA learned pretty quick. Sorry, I completely butchered the re. Well, I’m trying to think and the Well, I mean, Rudy wasn’t on the Lakers. I mean, he was No, no, I think Rudy on the on the Wolves, but like they’re convoluting both of those are two separate trades. I think you’re trying to say that’s the same trait. was it was Rudy on the I I think Rudy was on Utah the Wolves whenever DLo was in Minnesota right or no maybe I think DL was mid-season I don’t know cuz Mike Molly’s been yeah the T- Wolves did get better without and I mean that’s what the that’s what the the loudest DL skeptics say about him is that every team he leaves is better without him or is better after he leaves and sometimes it’s because you trade him for something that ends up working out sometimes could just be because someone takes his minutes or whatever. But yeah, I mean it’s basically a game and a half now of DNPCD for DLO. Um, he has a player option, man. I’m just very interested to see. I know a lot of us here think he’s picking up that player option, but it’s like, bro, if you’re not even if you’re getting DNP, look, but Money talks, man. I’ll be honest with you. I I want to say he won’t pick it up, but like if he’s not even going to be able to get half of that, you probably just take it and hope maybe you can find a a partner or whatever. Well, we’ll see. I do see somebody in the comments said, “Ron, I’m sorry. The Yogi days were darker.” Oh, Yogi was incredible. I loved Yogi Frell. Yogi Mania was Oh my god, dude. If we were around for Yogi Mania, that would have been the most fun I’ve ever had on a postgame show. Um, all right, quick thoughts. Oh, we have like a minute left in the segment or two. But, um, Coupe tonight, 11 assists. I thought he he moved the ball great. Had three steals, seven boards with stuff in the stat sheet. I really wanted him to be more aggressive, though. I wanted him to look for a shot early in the game. Lakers do not have a single guy in that team that can keep up with him that has his explosiveness and strength. So, I I really would have liked for him to be a little more aggressive. Um Ryan Nimhard though, dude, he was I got to take Oh, there he goes again. Uh Ryan Nhard, 17 points, four assists. Shot it really, really well. Was looking for his shot. He was a threat to score off the bounce in ways that I wish Cooper would have been. Um but you know, those two combined for 30 and 15. I mean, that’s not too bad. Not too bad. Look, every single Dallas Mavericks fans would would love if Cooper Flag took 20 shots a game. It’s But as Jason K has told me and other reporters a thousand times at this point when we asked the question, Cooper Flag plays the game the right way. According to Jason Kit, which means he doesn’t really force shots. And to be honest, his shot quality is you like usually pretty positive. He doesn’t really take too many bad shots. I’m not saying he’s, you know, quoteunquote efficient. A lot of his misses, Bobby, are just misses. Like, it’s not like he’s like, “Oh, man. Coup’s jacking.” Like, that’s that really never happens, which is pretty crazy because he’s the youngest player in the league and on the team and somehow he takes the best shots on the team. Like, somehow the multipletime champion is taking worse shots than the 18-year-old. So, I mean, in some ways, I think this projects to him being a good player long term, but in the short term, it’s going to be a little annoying because you want him to just take more shots. Like, Coop, just take 20 shots. No one cares if you shoot 35% from the field. I really don’t care. Neither do any Mavs players. They just want you to shoot the ball. You’re the You’re what gives this team hope of the future. You’re the guiding light of the Mavs fans dark days. But he, again, he’s a he just plays the game the right way. He’s a very high IQ player. I I think Cooper Flag is going to be one of those players is going to like fit with any superstar player that like all players want to play with because he can do so much stuff. Eventually his handle will keep getting better. The defense will keep getting better. The three-point shot hopefully, you know, one day he’s around the 34 to 36% mark. When that starts falling, like four attempts a game, he’s going to be able to do everything at a aggressive and good level. And I think eventually we’ll start to see that kind of come out of him. But, you know, this is not even at We’re not even at the All-Star break. Maybe after the All-Star break, it gets a little darker. He takes even more shots. I see some people um giving us some trades in the comments, though. I’m just uh trying to scout to see if anything I I can say out loud. Oh, we got to hit the We got to hit the break. We got um All right. All right, coming up after this, we got a little bit of history stuff and maybe just, you know, we’re just going to be vibing with that on the DLS maps postgame show. So, become a dire today. Um, all right. It is the, uh, last segment of the DLS postgame show. We’re just going to be vibing here. I want to give some history now that you’re back, Mark. Well, first off, was there anything on that phone call that Yeah, there was no uh I think somebody said, “Do I have do I have Is it the Knicks calling about a trade?” It was not It was not the Knicks. I apologize for that. I apologize. It was not the Knicks. Is this real? This Jason Gallagher pic Did you guys see this? No. I’m gonna send it to Tanner to see if see what he thinks. It was Jason. It was It was Durk on the Amazon set holding up a phone that looked like Luca was facetiming him on the show tonight. Uh, well, Jason wouldn’t probably tweet that if it wasn’t, so it probably is real. Wow. I trust him. No, that looks that looks fake to me. You think that’s fake? It looks fake. That doesn’t look like his hair or anything. Oh, well that I don’t know. No, that’s the same jacket Durk was wearing for sure. But either Dirk on FaceTime with Luca on the Prime post game show like feces. Boom. Throw at the camera. Literally, they are just pulling down their pants, taking a giant dump on my soul, dude. Just dumping one so hard. I hate this so much. I hate it so much. It’s that team. It’s those guys and that team. Dirk would never ever ever ever show off a facetime with the Laker. It’s disgusting. It’s disgusting. I cannot believe this. Did Rangers fans get like really angry when A-Rod was winning those World Series with the Yankees? That hurt. No, cuz he wasn’t as good here. No, he was great here. He won NBA actually hurt Rangers fans to see A-Rod win it with the Yankees. No, it was annoying. I mean, he got paid a lot of money, but then he wanted to leave because the team wasn’t good. Yeah. And you don’t like the Yankees. Sorry. But it was it was kind of, you know, he wanted out and they traded him. Luca didn’t want out. Touche. God, it just sucks so much, man. Um, okay. Wait, did you see the Mavs new games that You mean they’re already out? Yeah. So, they’re going to play Friday, December 12th versus the Nets. Oh, I didn’t know that. Monday, December 15th at the Jazz. So, they basically That’s two wins. Yeah. Are those cup games? They have a whole week off, I guess, at Utah, right? Are they going to be los Utah game? No, it’s that was last year. So, wait a minute. They get to play the Nets three times this year. Remember to play the Thunder an extra time? God, they No, they they they better rig the lottery for the Met. Getting to play the Nets three times is not cool. All right. They got to lose at least one of those three. Um, okay. Well, that that is good to know. We can we can now make a schedule. So, these are cup games to be ex No, no, no. It’s it’s makeup games. Yeah. Yeah. Oh, for not advancing in the cup. That’s fine. Um, okay. So, we got we got a little brief Mavs history for you here in closing. Well, we still got 10 minutes left, but whatever. Um, since the start of the two, I I’ll go Mavs first. How about this? This is the eighth Mavs team of all time to start five and 15 or worse. All right, Stein and I were talking about this before the show. Uh, and he he called a few of them. So, in the in the early 90s, the Mavs had some of the worst teams of all time. In ’92 93, they won 11 games. In 9394, they won 13 games. Um, in that 11 win season, they started two and 18. The next year, not to be outdone, they started 1-9. One and 19. out of the gate. One and uh 9798 the final year before Durk. My first full year on the beat. They started five and 15. They started 3 and 0. Are you serious? And then finished 20 and 62. Oh, I thought it was really cool that year that they finished 20 and 62 and that the Bulls finished 62 and 20. It was like their records were reversed and they were revers um and what didn’t wasn’t that the year they beat the Bulls in March? They did. I was at that game. Cedric Sabalos tied it from the corner. Cal State Fullerton. Cedrical. Jordan missed a free throw. Cacho missed a finger roll a win. Wild game. I was the beat rider and Bobby Carella was just a very hyped. I was standing on my chair. How old were you? I was six years old. Oh yeah, he was hyp. Wow. Yeah. Um 1980 they were an expansion team. Started three and 17. They started 1 and0 that year. 8182 in their second season they were 4-6. Then things got really good. They started 4-6 in 2016. They started five and 15 in 2017. That was the last year pre-luca. So, usually a really bad start pre uh date something very good. We got to hope that’s the case for the Mavs. Next year, Peterson, but this year is probably lost. And I can tell you that because since the start, not including this year, since the start of the ’05 06 season, 77 teams, of course, it’s that number by the way, but in the this is the last 20 years, 77 teams have started the year 5 and 15 or worse. Only two of them have gone on to make the playoffs. I’m shocked at two. The 2021 Wizards who went 34 and 38. That was a shortened season. They made it through the playin. and the 2122 Pelicans who finished 36 and 46 uh and ninth overall but made it through the playin. That was another shortened season. No, that was a full season. They just that Wizards I think that’s the Westbrook Wizards team. Yep. Westbrook and Bradley. And the Westbrook started season off like horrendous. Um all time only 12 out of the 208 teams to start five and 15 or worse have gone on to make the playoffs. So basically this there’s a chance Bobby. No, I was going to say basically the season is over, but if you’re optimistic, it’s about it’s what three or 4% basically. So maybe we’ll have our Zion or Westford go off for a near MVP caliber season in second half of the year. I don’t think so. Don’t know if we have that guy, but you never know. I don’t think so, but maybe. It’s possible. It’s possible. Uh we got a couple supers. Uh just one, I think. Yeah. Yes. Okay. LXS with the $5 super the buzzer beater. Kid has to have been in on the trade. Luca hasn’t acknowledged uh kid in all three of the games he’s played against the Mavs. He unfollowed him on Instagram. That just I mean it just hasn’t been reported though to my knowledge. I mean certainly it just I don’t know. It’s certainly possible, but the the thing about it though is like and that’s why I guess the reporting is needed because um like Nico so many times said this was my decision and my decision alone like he he said that into a microphone many times and that he told Patrick Deont. Patrick Deont laughed and then he was like oh you’re serious and then they did it. Um, so it’s certainly possible that other people, whether that’s Michael Finley, Matt Ricardi, Kid, um, Cap Guy, whatever. Like, there’s a chance that other people knew about it, but it doesn’t mean necessarily that they were okay with it. Uh, and even if they were, um, they’re still not the ones that are making the trade. So, I don’t know. I just don’t know. I I think like I guess my my question would be I guess for Mavs fans that are really stung about the trade, if JK did know about it and was like, “Yes, let’s do that.” I would understand why fans would be really mad. But if JK knew about it and was like, “Yeah, but why?” Or like, “Okay, I whatever, I guess.” Like, I don’t know what level of disagreement it would need to make Mavs fans like not feel terrible about it. You know what I mean? I mean h my thing is like how would we ever prove that? Like I mean he would have to say it. He would have to say it and why would he say like what would be what would be the benefit of him saying that while he’s still the coach of this team? Maybe maybe you know one day when he’s not the coach of this team maybe he’ll say that but like but again why I just really feel like if that was the case then Nico would have said like yeah we were in complete organizational alignment but he never said that. Probably would have said that. He just never said that. You know, I mean, look at the finish line, what we know to this point is I think to this again based on the what we know to this point and that it doesn’t mean that won’t change. That doesn’t mean that, like I said, this is a story that is going to be told and told and told. Like I’ve written, I think, five or six, maybe more long pieces on it already in 10 months. And I’m sure, you know, I don’t know how many more chapters there’s going to be, but there’s going to be many more. But I I do think that when the trade was at the finish line, there was only one person who could have stopped it. And that was the owner. I I mean that’s and he didn’t he didn’t uh All right, a couple minutes left. We got a classic Stang Lover 999 Luca come back. Think kid may be a snake trying to move up. I don’t know. I don’t know if he would want that title, frankly. Um yeah, not not the title of snake like the the GM thing. Um but I don’t know. I It’s certainly possible. He was what, president of Bball Ops or GM or whatever in Milwaukee in addition to coach. Um I mean he was asked about that. He didn’t really comment on like wanting to move up. I mean I’m I mean doesn’t mean it’s not true, but he just didn’t say that when he was asked about that. I don’t think like ethically I don’t think you could just be like yeah. I mean probably not. But I’m again I’m just reporting what what happened when I was there. He was asked and talked about it. Uh, Cali with a Euro 999. Mark, who’s the better passer, Luca or De Bruyne? Yes. Oh, wow. I gotta give it to KDB. I think Luca’s amazing, but Kevin De Bruyne is like he can do stuff with the ball that I’ve never seen anyone else do. Both geniuses who I absolutely love to watch play. And on two different levels, I don’t get to watch them as much as I used to. And I don’t like it. They used to be They used to be ours. He used to be ours. I do not like it. And uh not anymore, man. And it sucks. It sucks. And every single time the Mavs play Luca ever again uh until he comes back in 2028. Just kidding. Or am I? Uh it’s going to feel like this. It’s probably going to look like that on the court. The results probably going to go that way because Luca pretty much wins most of the time whenever he plays basketball. Yeah. Um, and it’s going to be something that we’ll have to revisit and talk about and experience over and over and over again. Uh, but for the Mavs, they got to get over it pretty quickly because they have a game in less than Austin Reeves and AD traded jerseys tonight. My god. Via Dave McManaman. Wait, what? Austin Reeves asked about exchanging jerseys with AD tonight. Quote, I mean, he’s one of the best players to ever touch a basketball. So, I don’t know why he wanted my jersey, but for me to get his is pretty fun. That’s cute, I guess. Shout out to David M. He’s doing a great job reporting. Just leave me alone, Austin Reeves. I’m tired of you. Uh, Mavs play the Clippers tomorrow night. It’s another late tip off. We will be here for that one. Maybe it’ll go better than tonight. Who knows? Uh, Clippers can’t get a win to save their lives, but they did get one against the Mavs earlier this season. Will the Mavs exact revenge? Who knows? You’re going to have to tune in to find out on the next episode of Dragon Ball Z. Until then, it’s Ron Har Jr. That is Mark Stein. How’d we do without KG? Still 620 watching. I have 10 seconds to log off before Tanner gets channel 59 alert. Tanner Rottman, producer Tanner. Hello. And I am Bobby Carella. You guys are incredible. Get some rest. You need it for tomorrow night. Come back tomorrow night. Get a coffee and a nap and come hang out with us tomorrow night when the Mavs take on the Clippers. Till then, take it easy. Be a good person. Bye. [Music] [Applause] We all sitting like the mayor.

The Dallas Mavericks fell to Luka Doncic, Austin Reaves, and the LA Lakers. Anthony Davis returned, and LeBron James wasn’t very effective, but Doncic and Reaves were more than enough to lead the team to a win. Cooper Flagg flirted with a triple-double and Ryan Nembhard had a terrific game, but it wasn’t enough for the Mavs. The DLLS Mavs crew reacts to the game and breaks it all down.

Mavs need to look to the future, and unload players and build for the future.
Mavs looked competitive tbh tho
Yall coulda demanded Austin and Ad or no deal and keep Luka 😭
Nico had to be a spy commissioned by lakers to become Dallas gm in order to trade Luka to his good friend’s team/legendary franchise .
I can't watch any Luka games. Not just because it still hurts, but also every Lakers uniform looks like absolute dogshit
They should fire kidd he’s also in on the trade.
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 luka is gonna destroy the mavs for a decade.
Luka didn't do anything special by his standards. But his playmaking and over all game control, compared to how the mavs play, was glaring.
Unbelievable, the Mavericks just threw away their superstar. And he never wanted to leave. OMG😪
kid is going to make this work the problem was they traded away our best player kid is picking up the pieces Anthony Davis needs to play center Namhard needs to be a point guard Cooper hit the paint .and klay get himset up for threes PJW keep doing you
Mavs are the #2 defense is the league. "Defense Wins Championships" ….Luka DGAF about your defense, though.
I feel bad for all the Mavs fans whose hope is that Luka returns in 3 years. It’s depressing lol
Dallas traded Luka for AD, Christie and Cooper (wink to the lottery shaman) basically.
Cooper is a generational talent. Kyrie is hurt, the earth isn't flat, trust the process.
Fi-re Ja-son 👏👏 👏👏👏
