BREAKING: RED SOX JUST MADE HUGE TRADE WITH CARDINALS.. Cubs Made Move, Semien & Nimmo Trade
What’s up everyone? It’s Fuzzy. Welcome back to yet another MLB recap. We have some breaking news. Sunny Gray is a Boston Red Sox, but a lot of Red Sox fans are kind of losing their mind right now because Sunny Gray just became one of the most expensive players in baseball. I’m going to break it all down for you guys in just a moment. Poor Phil Mon. I was about to lead the recap with his breaking news that he is now a Chicago Cub and we’re going to talk about his contract, but of course, Sunny Gray to the Red Sox. It’s just a little bit more important. Sorry, Philon. Also, I kind of had to break this video apart because again, this was breaking news. I wasn’t expecting it. So, we’re going to piece it together again like a shattered puzzle. And if you guys like this sort of stuff, stick around, leave a like, and subscribe because I give updates on the game of baseball almost every single day, aside from the last few days because I was in New York. But hey, I sparked something. Marcus Simeon and Brandon Nmo got traded for each other while I was in New York. I’m taking credit for that. All jokes aside though, let’s talk about the breaking trade that happened basically right as I was done recording the first version of this draft. Sunny Gray is a Boston Red Sox. Now, the biggest part about this trade is that the Red Sox are also getting some cash with Sunny Gray, similar to when Nolan Arnado came to the Cardinals. The Rockies sent over a ton of cash to offload that contract. The same is happening with the Red Sox, but we don’t know just how much yet. Hopefully, that’ll come out before I’m done recording. Sunny Gray just turned 36 years old and he is expensive in all caps. More on that in just a second. Sunny again, like I mentioned, he just turned 36 years old and he’s coming off one of his worst seasons in years. He had a 4.3 year for the Cardinals last year. But but this is why we talk about advanced metrics on this channel. I know a lot of you guys turn off the videos when you hear saber metrics and stuff like that, but Sunny, he led his league in strikeouts per walk. For every one walk he allowed, he had 5.29 29 strikeouts. He had 201 strikeouts in 180 innings. So, he’s still one of the best starting pitchers in baseball at striking guys out. And here’s another positive metric as well. He had a 3.39 FIP. FIP is essentially RRA for a pitcher without all of the bad luck from terrible defensive players like Kyle Schwber. Essentially, how good is a pitcher at striking guys out, not allowing walks, and not allowing home runs? So, how good is a pitcher all by himself? 3.39 is pretty solid. So, by all accounts, it seemed like a very unlucky season. And Sunny still owns one of the better sweepers in the game. But there are some big, big cons when it comes to the 36-year-old Sunny Gray. His fast ball stinks, and that led to a 9.2 hits per nine, his highest hits per nine since getting absolutely shellacked as a Yankee back in 2018. They’re also going to be reworking his contract. So, they’re going to essentially include his $10 million buyout. Sunny Gay in the year 2025 after putting up a 4.3 year is making $41 million. So that officially puts the Red Sox $1 million over the collective bargaining tax, the CBT threshold. So they’re going to have to pay some luxury taxes. Now Boston again, they did get some money along with Gray, but it’s essentially a one-year deal for $41 million, and the Red Sox are probably going to reject his 2027 option because it’s pretty expensive as well. The cash is finally known. As I ended that last sentence, the cash became public, but I’m going to talk about that after we see who the Cardinals got in return to see if they can justify sending over the money that they did. So, the Cardinals in exchange for Sunny Gray and some cash. They are getting a 6’4 22-year-old monster by the name of Brandon Clark. He is one of the most elite strikeout talents across all of minor league baseball. But I’m, this is going to sound like I’m being hyperbolic and dramatic. this kid cannot locate to save his life. He has some of the worst command I’ve ever seen in my life, but also some of the nastiest stuff. If the Cardinals can unlock this kid, I mean, he’s going to be the piece in this trade, which is a big deal considering the Cardinals also got Richard Fitz. Um, who unfortunately has I’m not even going to talk about what his alter ego name could be. Fitz is almost 26 years old. He came on over in the Alex Verdugo trade and I do like Richard’s stuff. He throws a mid90s fast ball. He also has great chase rates. A chase, if you’re brand new to baseball, is essentially a swing on a ball outside the zone. So, his stuff is so gross that he makes hitters swing at bad pitches. And the Cardinals, they think that they can fix his slider. Now, one thing to notate about Richard Fitz, he suffered a rare arm injury last year in August. So, last year he suffered something called right arm nuritis. It was inflammation like basically a bundle of nerves got inflamed and just coagulated in his shoulder and arm. Again, it’s called Naritis. So, that’s something to keep in mind heading into 2026. But, I do like Richard stuff and especially Brandon Clark’s, but they got to fix his command. And now that the information that we’ve all been waiting for, it’s been revealed that the Boston Red Sox for taking on almost $41 million in Sunny Gay for 2026. Again, probably going to reject the option for 2027, are getting $20 million in cash from the St. Louis Cardinals. So, if you do the math, Sunny Gay basically got the same value as a qualifying offer. And my editor, Pesky Talk, he’s a big Red Sox fan. Make sure you guys go subscribe to him after this video. He mentioned and made a good point that this is basically a Lucas Gilito replacement. But with that $20 million, hopefully there’s a Masataka Yosha trade down the pipeline to free up even more money. And with that freed up money and the cash given in Sunny Graves deal, maybe go get a big bat. It could definitely happen. As it stands right now, it seems like the projected rotation for the Red Sox is going to be Garrick Crochet, one of the most talented pitchers in the game. Then you have Sunny Gray, a veteran, Brian Beo, you have Connelly Early, Payton Tolley, you have other veterans coming back from injury like Cutter Crawford and Patrick Sandival. And remember, the Red Sox employ Andrew Bailey, a former stud pitcher who was their pitching coach. He loves to mess with pitching arsenals. And what do I mean by that? He loves to really toy with fast balls, whether that’s turning a fastball into a cutter or just deleting the fast ball from an arsenal altogether. Sunny Gay’s cutter really took a step back last year. So Andrew Bailey’s objective, probably at least this is me and Pesky’s opinion, is that the force seam, the straight force seem is going to be thrown less. And that Bailey is going to try and fix that cutter from Sunny Gray. And if he can do that, it’s a really good one-two punch with Crochet and Gray. But like Red Sox fans have been clamoring on Twitter, they better not be done after this. They got to go get another big bat and get rid of Masataki Osha. I’m going to turn it over to you guys now. So, in a nutshell, the trade is essentially Sunny Gray on a one-year rental for about $21ish million thanks to the cash being given by the Cardinals in exchange for a flamethrower disgusting mutant for a pitcher by the name of Brandon Clark, who cannot locate, and also Richard Fitz who has MLB experience. He’s going to be given a lot of the innings that would have been given to Sunny Gay. Do you like this deal or not? Moving on, I’m going to talk about these next few updates pretty quick. Phil Mton, he’s getting a three-year contract, well, essentially a two-year deal with a team option for the third deal. The Mets, they fixed Phil after a horrific start to his Rays career. He’s been locked down ever since. He had an almost 12 strikeouts per nine last year, and that’s in large part because his curveball is basically unhitable. He has a 136 batting average against with a 41% whiff rate. The cutter also has insane vertical movement. Phil Mton to the Cubs, I like this move a lot. Wow, it’s been made official. The Rangers, they could not find a trade partner for Adoleis Garcia. So, just like Pete Fairbanks and the Rays, again, there was no trademark for some of these guys. So, just like the Rays with Pete, the Rangers, they just decided to dump Adole Scarcia so they did not have to pay his arbitration money. The Rangers acted fast, though. They immediately replaced him. By the way, before we talk about his replacement, I just want to say Adole Garcia has Philly written all over him. That’s just what my heart is saying. The Phillies are going to get rid of Nick Costanos and bring in Adoleis who’s a much better defender and that’s really all that they’re looking for honestly. Like I mentioned though, the Rangers acted fast. They replace Adoleis Garcia with Brandon NMO. I know that this news is a couple days old, but I was in New York. I’m taking credit for it. I go to New York and then there’s a big New York trade. Anyways, I’ll get into it very briefly just because you guys probably all heard the information already, but the Rangers are getting Brandon NMO. The Mets are also going to be sending $5 million in cash to help offset the $15 million left on Brandon Nmo’s contract. So Brandon’s gonna be 33 in March. He’s coming off a very interesting Brandon Mo season for his standards. He had a 381 on base from 2017 to 2023 with mostly solid defense. He’s coming off back-to-back seasons with 20 plus home runs and 90 plus RBI’s, but he’s only averaging a 326 on base since 2024. And the defense because of plantar fascitis was not that great last year. But the Rangers don’t have a lot of organizational outfield depth in their system. They do have a ton of arms and infielders. So they said, “You know what? We’ll just go trade for a better bat and Brandon Nmo.” The Mets GM, Mr. Sterns, he said it wasn’t very smart to keep running it back. So he is officially breaking up the core. It’s going to be weird to see Brandon NMO not with Pete Alonzo and Jeff McNeel and other guys like that. The Mets are getting Marcus Simeon in return. Kind of the modern-day Cal Ripken. I’m not trying to be disrespectful and like he’s not Cal Ripken Jr. But Simeon, he’s played all 162 games four times already. And in some other seasons, he’s played 155 plus games four times. 2025 was really the first year in a decade where he didn’t have luck on his side where he’s just staying healthy for 155 plus games. He played 120ish. He was terrible for the first half of those games. He only hit 199 with a sub 560 OPS with only four extra base hits in those first voice crack. I’m still aging at almost 30. He looked a lot better the rest of the season before he unfortunately suffered I think it was a foul ball into his left foot that ended his season. and he had 26 extra base hits and a 760 OPS his final 67 games. Just seems like the Mets really want to shore up their infield defense and have one of the best double play duos with a Francisco Lindor and Simeon. Simeon when he’s hot is one of the best offensive infielders in the game. Not a bad trade for either sides in my opinion because it just wasn’t really working with their current situations. You got to tip your cap though. Simeon, he was a big part of that 2023 championship run. And in NMO’s case, I mean this dude was as humble as it gets. He earned all of the love and admiration from Mets fans. Just kind of surreal to see it come to an end. With that end though could come the beginning of a future star. Pay attention to the name Carson Benge. He could get some of the reps that Brennan Nemo will not be getting for the Mets. Benj is one of the top prospects for New York and this guy could be a five tool mega star and I mean that. He made it to AAA at 22 years old. He literally went from high Aball to double A to AAA. He did struggle at AAA, but even with that, he finished the season with 25 doubles, 15 home runs, 22 stolen bases, a 385 on base. He doesn’t strike out a lot. When he makes contact, he has some of the best exit rates and barrel rates in the entire system. He’s got really nice speed as well. A fun swing. He He could be really good. So, we have all of the big stuff out the way. I’m going to motor through the rest of the updates. We have a small trade between the Braves and the Astros. This is a few days old, but again, I didn’t get to talk about it. Nick Allen, one of the most gifted defenders in the last few years. He has zero bat. He’s going to the Astros in exchange for one of the most versatile defenders in baseball, Mauricio Duban. The GM of the Braves, said that if Dubana is their opening day shorts stop, he’d be fine with that, but he’s not Tulawitzky out there. He is his bat isn’t much better than Nick Allen, but it is better. More super quick news on the Braves. On the same day, they brought back Rise Glacius for $16 million. He had a 1.2 year rate from early June through the rest of the season. So, he was amazing. Mike Tman. He’s been let go by the White Socks. Mike has a 360 on base since 2023. And this past season marked his highest slugging in years thanks to a 121 OPS plus versus lefties, but he’s going to be 35 years old soon. The athleticism isn’t really there. I would pick up Mike Tachman. He’s an awesome veteran. The NJ Melendez experiment is officially over. This kid was supposed to be a powerhitting Dalton Varel, just without the defense, but a lot of pop for a catcher who could also play the outfield. He has a rocket launcher attached to his body. Just saying he has a crazy arm. He’s got really nice exit velocities and barrel rates when he makes contact, which is not very often. He’s a walking 15 plus home runs and 20 plus doubles, but the defense and lack of on base ruined his everyday value, but because of that slugging versus righties. To me, he’s going to get a lot of reps and calls. We have another experiment coming to an end. Alec Manoa was just let go by the Braves. Now, the Braves are great at reclamation projects. I know that kind of sounds disrespectful, but Alec, he is a project in the making. He had a 2.9 RA in Triple A last season while rehabbing with the Jays. He was let go by the Jays simply because of roster constraints with the Shane Eber trade and Trey Savage getting called up. So, they just didn’t have room for him. The Braves picked him up, but they didn’t want to pay him $2 to $3 million in arbitration. That’s kind of it. He’s just getting beat up by arbitration numbers and roster constraints. He had a 2.2 A back in 2022, so maybe he’s worth the risk. I don’t know. Evan Phillips, he was just let go by the Dodgers. Yes, a guy with a 2.1 since 2022 is no longer welcome on the Dodgers. Okay, I’m being a bit dramatic because his ERA rose to 3.7 in 2024. Then he was robbed of 99.9% of 2025. He only pitched in 5 and 2/3. He didn’t allow run in those five and two/3s, but because of a rotator cuff strain. And then Tommy John, he’s going to be missing the majority of 2026. Probably going to come back for the playoffs if a team does pick him up. Before the injury, he threw relatively hard still. A sweeper is one of the best in the game. He’s only 31 years old. I thought he was much older. He’s definitely going to get a call. More bullpen arms dropped. We have Mark Lighter Jr., Ian Hamilton, and Jake Cousins. All being non-tendered by the Yankees. There’s a ton of strikeouts between them all. Just a rough 2025 in terms of erra. Regression of injuries cost all three of them. Jake Cousins, who did not pitch last year. I would be very interested in Jake Cousins on the Guardians. He has a 2.7 career with a near 12 and a half strikeouts per nine. I expect the Yankees to be in on Cousins. I really feel like they’re going to bring him back, but if not, he’s going to get a lot of calls. And one more former Ranger to talk about, a brand new pitcher, Joey Gallow. We have another side look. I don’t know really what to make of this, but we have Tyler Nin getting a second chance as a pitcher. Same with David Fletcher before he retired. Plenty of others. So, why not Gallow? He had one of the strongest outfield arms ever. I want to see him pitch.

In a flurry of MLB offseason moves, the Red Sox acquired veteran starter Sonny Gray from the Cardinals for prospects Brandon Clarke and Richard Fitts plus $20 million in cash, landing a one-year rental of the 36-year-old strikeout machine (elite 5.29 K/BB ratio) despite his unlucky 4.28 ERA; the Cubs signed reliever Phil Maton to a two-year deal (with option) for his unhittable curveball; the Rangers non-tendered outfielder Adolis García, then traded second baseman Marcus Semien (35, $72 million remaining) to the Mets for Brandon Nimmo (33, $105 million left) plus $5 million cash to bolster their outfield depth; the Mets shook up their core by acquiring the durable, glove-first Semien while parting with Nimmo’s power; the Braves traded for versatile Gold Glover Mauricio Dubón from the Astros for infielder Nick Allen and re-signed closer Raisel Iglesias for one year, $16 million; and several players hit free agency via non-tenders or releases, including White Sox outfielder Mike Tauchman (.360 OBP since 2023), Royals catcher/outfielder MJ Melendez (high-power, low-contact experiment ended), Braves starter Alek Manoah (28, strong minors rebound), Dodgers reliever Evan Phillips (2.1 ERA since 2022), and arms Mark Leiter Jr., Ian Hamilton, all seeking fresh starts after injury-plagued 2025s.

Mauricio will be fine if he is left alone and hits 2nd. Give him a chance & he's already a proven defensive gem.
Maton is reliable & proven durable. Good signing.
Last year with Boston, Fitts gave up 11 home runs in 45 innings. 😬. Clarke looks impressive. Hoping the pitching lab can make him an ace.
Any updates on Jarren Duran?
Ive been telling people to watch out for carson benge ever since he was drafted from osu
Stiff drahcir
WTF!!! RED SOX GIVING UP TOO MUCH! Would rather have Clarke throwing 100 and Fitts throwing 98 than Gray throwing 92!!!
red sox dont remember what happened to sonny last time he was in the AL?
What happened to fuzzy Gaming?
Hope he Fitts the team very well
I never knew sonny gray played for the Yankees
I can't watch this guy, he talks entirely too fast which makes him hard to understand.
Phillies got Mike trout as a Phillies fan I love it
Hell yeah, we got dik fittz!
Rid us of Miklos, Gray, some others and if Nado would hit .265 he makes 3rd base terrific. Rid us of Noot, Jordan, Gorman, others but keep Burley, Donnivan, Contrera, Mason, maybe even keep Scott, and most of all keep Herrera, then bring on all the new names.
What team would take the Masataka Yoshida contract? Good luck Red Sox.
6:06 so looking at Sonny Gray’s pitch movement his 4 seam already moves a lot like a cutter. I don’t doubt there will be tinkering but I doubt a fastball like his will get removed while on the redsox
If the Rays don’t pick Manoah up than he’s done. If he can be fixed the Rays will be all over that.
Thinking about that near perfect game against CLE. Sonny is an incredible SO and if BOS can help with his FB, he will be best 2 you can get out there.
as a mets fan, im really sad that we traded nimmo. but i wish my guy nothing but the best in texas
9:30 67?
Sonny gray in mn was trash
I am a Cardinals fan to see you Sonny
