Tristan Jarry To The Edmonton Oilers? | SDP
All right. Now, listen. I told you that uh it’s not the it’s probably not going to be St. Louis Edmonton. And the reason for that, and I think a lot of people forget this, is that NHL GMs are salty babies. And the reason it’s not going to be St. Louis Edmonton, apparently, is that um the Edmonton Oilers are salty babies for making a huge mistake and leaving Holloway and Broberg as RFAS. And Doug Armstrong took advantage of that a summer ago. And coincidentally though, the Blues gave up a bunch of futures and are bad in the present. They also didn’t need to, right? They were just trying to to try to make nice, but apparently Jeff Jackson and Stan Bowman have not forgotten the slight. So they will not be dealing with each other. Uh that’s that’s dumb. Now what apparently might be uh is Pittsburgh and several different uh people have talked about it. Free CJ, everybody’s talked about it. Uh they got four goalies ready to play in the NHL and AHL. And who’s the most expensive one? Tristan Jari passed through waiverss multiple times last year. Uh was basically unplayable, but had a good start this season. And what’s funny is Kyle Dubis might get out with with without retention, get out from the worst contract he has signed as a general manager or second worst. Ryan Graves I think is Ryan Graves is the worst one. Yeah. But the most expensive one was Tristan Jarry because he’s 5.375. Ryan Graves is only four and a half mil. I think it’s also just something that makes sense, man. Like uh Jarry hasn’t been bad uh this year on a on a not great team. No, on a not great team, but you know, he hasn’t been bad. That’s a compliment. Yeah. And uh throughout his career during the regular season, he’s typically actually all right. Yeah. uh if you go and look at some of his seasons and you know it’s funny how easy it is to earn a reputation because I was thinking to myself well Oilers are trying to win a cup. He’s a good regular season goalie. They need to make the playoffs but he’s terrible in the playoffs. I went back. He’s played one full series. Mhm. That’s it. He was bad though. It was bad but it was one full series. Yeah. I did not know that. It felt like it was a lot more. Um, but listen, they need to make it straight up. So, you can’t do it with your current crop. Uh, how do you do it? Dubis, you know, he loves a dinky little deal of two guys you’ve never heard of, but he also loves a colossal freaking deal. And I think this would be more along those lines. My my guess, and I have nothing to back this up, guys, but I do think Kipper was right when he said Edmonton’s looking for a defenseman. And the reason I say that is I’ve watched Edmonton play defense. Yeah, it’s um poor. It is poor. Uh so if Trist I mean what a turnaround for Tristan Jarry, you know, a guy that they literally were like uh we can’t play you at the NHL level just six, seven months ago is now potentially going to a team that has been and again speculative but Kevin Weekes was the one tweeting about it. Oh, stop it. Um Kevin Weekes was saying that that you know when he tweeted about it going to a team that’s been to two finals in a row. Jesse, do you like the fit? Potentially. I do. Yeah. I think it’s it’s an upgrade. Like I think Jar’s playing well enough that whatever they get out of him right now would be better than what they’re getting currently out of Skinner and and Pickard. And like I even think if Connor Ingram can kind of be what he’s been in his career, that’ll also be an upgrade. I think in goal right now, there needs to be just some sort of change just to see what’s what’s what they can do new. You know, change for the sake of change, I think would be nice. And I’d like to see Jarry out there. And I don’t think it would cost you a lot because of the contract. I think the def if if it was a defenseman, it might cost you. So Jari makes uh 5.38. Who wants to get insane? Who wants to get completely nuts? What does Kyle Dubis like to do? He likes to collect He does like to trade down. He likes to collect Sue Greyhounds like Infinity Stones. He never did manage to get his hands on Darnell Nurse. Oh, do you really think? How does that I mean because because Darnell Nurse has had his moments in in the playoffs and stuff for Edmonton like for a team that needs more defense. Is trading Darnell Nurse is he that is he a negative? So I know his contracts high, but like whatever, man. Like his salary cap’s going up. That’s that’s where this trade goes ary. And like I honestly think if you’re if you’re managing to get Jarry off your books and you’re acquiring Nurse, you could probably also get rid of Graves too, like just for the the dollar value. But here’s here’s where it goes ary. I think in NHL circles, Darnold Nurse’s value is a lot higher than it is in the online hockey community. I mean, he he busts his ass. Yeah, he makes way too much money. Like there there’s a world where um he’s like actually a really popular player, but that $9.25 million cap hit is insane. Remember when Tyler Myers was the worst, most overpaid freaking unplayable plug in the world and then he signed for like three and everyone’s like, “Ah, Chaos Giraffe. Love him.” Yeah. It’s 6 mil. Yeah, it was painful. It was painful. And now it’s H. No, that actually that fits. That’s valid. Okay, I like that. Um, listen, I don’t think it happens, but I’m trying to figure out how on earth the money works for Edmonton. Mhm. Because they’re not really in a position to take on a goalie who makes over $5 million, even if they traded away Steuart Skinner. Even if they traded away Skinner and Pickard. What about a What about a winger? What about a mania? Man, a guy you just got. I guess I guess you could like Pod Coulson doesn’t make a ton. I just thought MJ Pony makes 3.3, right? Kaepernin is an interesting name. I don’t think Dubis wants him back. I also think he’s injured again. And he is injured again. That was a tough clip to watch yesterday. It was. I think I really felt that if they really wanted to get the deal done and they had to pay the price that Dubis was asking for, like if I’m on the Edmonton side, I’m asking for 50% retained. And at 50% retained for Stuart Skinner plus whatever. Oh, you want Skinner retained? No, I want Jarry retained 50%. And Stuart Skinner for Tristan Jarry 50% retained plus whatever assets that are required to acquire that player leaves Edmonton with more cap space. So like they would they would gain 88 grand uh back and so they’d end up in the positive again. So that is this season and next season and the season after. That’s hefty price to pay. That’s the remaining Conor McDavid seasons that are under Conor. That’s kind of what you’d have to pay for, right? Cuz that’s the goalie he is right now. He’s not a 5 whatever million dollar goalie right now. He’s less than that. So, if you’re in these negotiations, you want Dubis to keep some of that money because Pittsburgh has over 12 million bucks in cap space, right? Uh, current cap space. Yeah, this since they changed the LTI, I don’t understand anything. According to Puckedia, projected cap space is just under 9 mil. Current cap space is just under 12.3. Okay, so there you go. So, right now, they have that ability to just take on that money and you got to utilize their cash space because you don’t have your own. So, I would pay for Dubis to retain that if it’s 40 or 50% and then you get into that comfy number of you’re actually gaining a little C space back. So, what do we got in terms of assets if I’m Edmonton? Okay, I don’t have a first this year, but I do have a second and a third. I don’t have a fourth or fifth. I have a sixth and seventh. Dubis loves a seventh round pick and trading for one. But you got all your first three picks in 2027 and you got all your first three picks in 2028 and in fact, you have two/3s. H could be a fit here. Mhm. Yeah. And and uh the other thing that came out is that it’s might not they might not just stop at Skinner. It might be Pickered too. Not in this trade, but it looks like they might be trying to upgrade both goalies. And I haven’t heard anything about what the second goalie might be. Worked pretty well for Colorado. Yeah. Um so if they if they like you go there, you know, maybe you’re making room for him by removing Picker just for the cap space as well. Maybe that makes the Jarry deal even easier because you’re gaining that calf space too. And maybe there’s a case to get assets back for a picker and like maybe you’re replenishing the draft pick capital that you got to send out there to get Jarry. Like there’s a lot of maneuvering that Edmond can Edmonton can do. And I think that’s why you in particular, Adam, scream so much about their front office is because there is creativity to be had and they’ve always sat on the sidelines with this situation. What a good word, creativity. I want more GMs to like, listen, the league is so close and you know, teams are worried about blowing it up and and making a big buy or making a big sell. All right, how about you just make a trade that makes your team better? How about you’re the Oilers, you have no goalending, you need it. You’re the Penguins. You have too much. Shut up and kiss. Oh my god. Mega, I’m so tired of, well, we just, you know, we can’t do it. What if all of us showed up to work every day and went can’t do my job sometimes? I just can’t do it. I mean, and got paid five, six million bucks for it. That’d be pretty sweet. Sorry, boss. It’s November. Work doesn’t get done in November. What? Sorry. The entire month of November, nothing happens. You do forget the human side of it sometimes because these are people who are still fighting for one of 32 jobs and if they make the GMs if they make a mistake then they have to wear it. If you just stick with your plan as is with the players you acquire, it falls on the players. And sometimes these guys are in job preservation mode. And by making moves, you are exposing yourself to be axe because it is very easy to get fired in the world of the NHL. And sitting on the sidelines sometimes just buys you more time and you’re just kind of the guy who’s trying to maintain his position within NHL circles. It’s not as Sometimes guys aren’t really trying to make their team better. They’re trying to protect themselves, which is a dark underhanded uh side of this this thing, but it is true. And these are people that clip that clip. Damn. Wow. Damn. Ours, Jesse. There. There you go. No, that was really good. I I I thought I had a good one in the chamber cuz I was going to say not making a decision is a decision. You’re just sitting there going, “Oh, maybe things will correct them.” No, it’s a every, you know, I know you can’t just blow it up and make a trade every time you have a bad loss or whatever. And that seems emotional, but to me, you you make decisions with everything you do or don’t do. And by sitting there and not addressing something that very obviously needs to be dressed addressed too sweet, you are making the decision to keep your team bad. Tristan Jarry in eight games by the way is 6-2 with a 914 save percentage this year. Yeah, I’ll take that. Yeah, it’s not bad, right? Uh they also have Murishoff who’s got a 913 save percentage in four games. Uh he’s 1-1 and one and Celops Archer Sheil. Yes. Uh who has played the majority of their games 11. He’s 4-3 and four. You said that like the Grinch. Uh four. Yeah. 4-3 and four. 907 save percentage. So uh he’s been pretty darn good. You know what? You know who could really use him right now? The Vancouver Conucks. They could really use him.

I think jarry and skinner are pretty much the same. They play the same way, just skinner is a bit bigger, but skinner style is the same as jarry they carry themselves the same way, they are both not bad goalies, when skinner is on he's top teir, same with jarry. I think jarry can do well with the oilers, he can be top 10 I think but as a pens fan, I dont want skinner, I'd say a 2nd round pick-and nhl prospect that's reason in exchange for jarry with 2 million retention
For the Penguins that would be an insane robbery. Make the Oilers buy very high for a goaltender slightly better than Skinner, and they can bury or flip Skinner in another deal.
If Edmonton needs a goalie that bad eat the whole Jarry contract.
If I’m the oilers I’m calling the Minnesota wild and asking what it take to get Wally. The wild just locked up gustavson. Get younger and potentially have a goalie for the next 12 years. Also should call the devils and ask what they want for shamus Casey.
That would be a complete waste of a trade, Oilers might be desperate to make a significant change, but swapping almost like for like isn't going to be the fix they're hoping for. Remember what happened when they overpaid for Campbell after he had one decent season? Where is Campbell now?
Personally, i feel Oilers should've tried to get Silovs during the offseason, maybe for Pickard, or instead of Ingram. But it's likely they would've overpaid for him because it was a trade with the Canucks.
I think at this point they're gonna have to try and make do with what they have. Maybe see if they can't try to tempt Coffey back as defensive coach and see if that gives them a bump. Then when the deadline is approaching, see if any team unlikely to make playoffs is willing to part with a quality starter.
Oilers should trade the penguins mcdavid for Jarry.
What’s hilarious is the Oilers actually genuinely believe the goaltending is the problem. It’s the skaters. No one on that team plays defense. And that includes the golden child McDavid. Maybe Conor should behave like a pro and play defensive first hockey.
tout de suite. excent video.
Yeah but the oilers always start terrible. The leafs dont. So the oilers will make it and toronto will miss this year. Don't be salty lol
Oilers could have a Prime Carey Price in their net, and still never get a Cup, because the players in front of the net can’t play defense.
Skinner could go to a solid defense and be effective …very easily…. the window in Edmonton is turning.. Jarry could be a worse keeper than Skinner…. that wouldnt surprise most I dont think.
Gibson to the Oilers or Leafs
Jarry is a lateral move imo!
Pens are in a playoff spot, Edmonton isn't.
Let me say this loud and clear. We as Penguins fans have absolutely zero interest in Darnell Nurse. This could all fall apart at any time, but as long as the Pens are within striking distance of a playoff spot Jarry's seat in goal is staying put. He drives me absolutely insane sometimes but he's still the best option in the room. Come talk to us again when we're 8 points out of the wildcard in February.
the oilers trading for a goalie that almost washed out of the league is so quintessentially them
Just to add to the Holloway / Broberg situation a little bit. Something people never mention. Broberg wanted out – and I don't blame him. He was a bonfafide NHL dman in his last year in Edmonton and proved it whenever they dressed him, but the Oilers decided that they needed to have more 'toughness' on their blueline so they put Vinnie Deharnais back there and played him. When Broberg played sparing he was a much better skater than Vinnie, a much better puck handler, a better cerebral player, and a much better passer. But he was a LH shot. By January he and his agent were demanding a trade and Holland and the Oilers were trying to move him – but the best offers they were getting back were for mid round draft picks. No way Holland was doing that. Playoffs came and Vinnie became unplayable – Broberg stepped in and given his lack of icetime in reg season was OUTSTANDING! But you think , for even ONE second – he was re-signing back here? Not a chance. He was even ready for the NHL the year before that but Oilers kept him in the minors the whole year. We (Oilers) offered him a contract but it was lowballed no doubt to the lowest we could offer to retain him and he balked as I would've. I heard St.Louis wasn't the only team to offer sheet him but they offered the most. I wish Broberg well and hated the old management (Holland) who purposefully did not play Broberg. Should never of drafted him if that's how they intended to treat him. Dylan Holloway – we could've matched him easily IF we hadn't of signed Jeff Skinner (that's another issue) but if anyone here thinks he would have 26 goals and 63 points playing 3rd/4th line most of year with next to zero PP time…I have beach front property along the North Sask I can sell you. If we had signed Holloway fans would've been bitching like crazy here "why did we sign Holloway to 2.2 million". Know what Holloway would of done? Look at his stats this year. 25 games – 6 goals, 6 assists and a -8 playing almost a minute more than least year (15:09 vs 14:21) and getting almost a minute more PP time (2:17 vs 1:36 last year). His last year in Edmonton he had a whopping :06 of PP time and 11 minutes average of ice time a game. And here in Edmonton, if you're not playing with McD or Drai, your job is to prevent goals, not score them – and if you mess that up you don't play. If you do play with McD or Drai and can't generate chances – you end up on the 3rd/4th line (where Holloway ended up). Those are the facts – I personally would've played Broberg over Desharnais except in games where I knew there would a lot of physicality – and Holloway I would've had him play with Drai more – Oilers are broken. I think the inmates are running the asylum.
😂😂😂 sure buddy
If I was a GM and the Oilers came to me and tried to trade Skinner to me I would say hell no.
Get Jacob Fowler from Montreal. No faith in Jarry. I watched him choke in the past when Pittisburgh just needed him to average. If Bowman gets Jarry. Then Bowman should leave town when Jarry turns out to be a flop.
The disrespect to the pens in this video is crazy
JFDI Bowman!
I hope Edmonton keeps Skinner. He has shown enough skill and he can improve. His character is exceptional and that’s invaluable
Danielle is scared of her own shadow, Saturday night
Media keep spewing nonsense. Can’t wait for the media to keep talking about Skinner being the problem and he gets traded because fans who don’t see past there feet just listen to Edmonton when no goalie is going to do well with the defense Edmonton has been playing. 20 million for two pylons. Jessie actually hurts my brain saying they need change for the sake of change. No they need defence. Period.
Im going to continue to call this out so that hopefully it never happens again.
Nurse = BLM contract.
He's owes that ""organization"" about ~$3m per.
Both Nurse and Jones just happened to get PAID that summer.
Jarry is not a solution. He is a 10% better Skinner. Only Binnington or Saros are upgrades.
i don't see jarry fixing anything for edmonton. and tolopilo is the canuck's new silovs…only 5" taller.
Montembeault would be a better fit for Edmonton
Imagine Jarry and skinner as a duo you’re doomed 😂makes zero sense already have one garbage goalie
Should be looking at Askarov. Leafs the same.
trading skinner would be a mistake.
he's playing poorly, and so is the rest of the team.
management should ignore the loudmouth 85 IQ fans and wait this out.
10:34 These are the guys that should be fired on the spot, at the first hint of self-preservation. If you can notice it, if I can notice it, I'm sure boards and owners can notice it too.
Tolerating self-serving GMs, and presidents, is how you end with the Toronto Maple Leafs, after a decade of "the shanaplan".
Yeah, the Pens are so not great, that’s why they currently hold a Playoff spot and Toronto doesn’t!!
Cone on guys!! Give the Pens some respect!
This video is just delusions of grandeur. 1) You have to be absolutely desperate to acquire Jarry with his track record and Im a Pens fan. 2) if you are that desperate, WHY would the Pens retain salary on it when the Oilers are trying to dump Skinner? So you want the Pens to retain salary on Jarry AND take a worse goalie with the justification is you get rid of the couple million on a contract when they already have 9+ mil in cap space (ie aren’t pressed to get rid of the money)? The only way that happens is if you send some good draft picks back.
Ive heard better takes by drunks at the local bar and they dont know a blue line from a clothes line. Sure, the Pens will take all the Oilers problems and retain salary just so the Oilers can do better and only send them a shitty goalie and a 7th round pick. Please.. dear lord help us and forgive us for these idiots know not what they say.
Nurse + 1st + 2nd
For
Letang/Karlsson + Jarry
Tristan Jarry will be a sevicable goalie until after the olympics. Jarry has regressed every year in the NHL. All-star the first two years and fell apart after the All-star game both years, and basically nothing after. The Pens have two under 25 goalies who are as good or better than Jarry, so all I can say is good luck if they take him.
SDP really hates the Penguins. Why would the Penguins retain on Jarry with how he is playing? Why wouldn't the Penguins keep that space and use it in the offseason to help out Sidney Crosby make a run for the Cup next year.
Maybe jarry fetches a solid young prospect and a 3rd round pick plus skinner, and the pens retain some amount of his salary.
Didnt listen. Marner to pitt july 1 2033.
funniest part of all this hoopla is edmontons problems are much deeper than goaltending and signiing another teams hasbeen is pointless
The only ones Edmonton trade here are Bouchard, Nurse or Skinner. Bring in Jarry and call up Ingram, send Pickard down to AHL
Blues make the most sense for oilers with faulk and binner being available for the right price. Problem is the oilers dont make the best trade partners for st louis.
Unfortunately for Edmonton Binnington makes the most sense. We know he’s capable of throwing a lesser team on his back when needed. He practically won the Blues a Stanley Cup by himself in that Boston series. In fact the blues were out skated in every series. I urge anyone who has forgotten what Binnington is capable of to go back and watch. Or watch the series against the Avs a few years ago when the Avs won. They had to intentionally run and injure Binnington because they literally couldn’t beat him. And Broberg wanted out. He was tired of being scratched even though he was probably the most talented 2-way defenseman when given the opportunity. Edmonton needs to do what’s best for the team. If Binnington is the best most proven goalie available then it is what it is.
Poor guy.
You guys do not have a finger on the pulse in Edmonton. Why the f&"K would they trade their somewhat below average goalie to get an average goalie. Let me spell it out. OILERS DO NOT NEED AN AVERAGE GOALIE. Getting a slight upgrade is idiotic. They trying to win a Cup FFS. Nurse has a no trade clause.
Tim Thomas is on the show now ?
