BREAKING: New Orleans Saints Award CHARLIE SMYTH With First Shot At Kicker, Replacing Blake Grupe

The New Orleans Saints have their new kicker, at least for week 13, announcing on Saturday that they have elevated Northern Irish kicker Charlie Smith. Charlie Smith, a part of the International Player Pathway program, has been with the team on the practice squad since the beginning of the 2024 season. Kicked his first NFL kick in his career in the preseason last year against the Arizona Cardinals, a gamewinner where he was also iced. Was a perfect five for five in all of his preseason games. 2024 and 2025, including two from 50 plus. Now, he’s still a developing kicker, getting his fundamentals, getting his technique, getting his accuracy all honed in over the course of this year and a half plus that he’s been with New Orleans. But now he gets his opportunity in the same stadium where the Saints won their first Super Bowl, he gets his opportunity to kick his first regular season field goals as an NFL kicker. And it’s great in a season like this that has been so disappointing, so frustrating in some situations to get a feel-good story like this. And then we’ll see does he get the opportunity beyond week 13 that’s going to come down to performance, but he does get first crack over former LSU kicker Kade York to try to hold on to the position for the rest of the season. After this, he’ll have two more elevations off the practice squad. Cade York has three more elevations off the practice squad. So, we could see an even three for three here between the two. But for right now, Charlie Smith is the New Orleans Saints kicker.
