What’s going on roses? So, of course, the Minnesota fine Vikings can never ever ever ever play a normal season. So, we go from this and three weeks just completely crater where JJ McCarthy can’t complete a screen pass. Uh but now the discourse, the topic dour this week has been you JJ McCarthy having his concussion. And I I didn’t believe the whole softbenching narrative when it came to the high ankle sprain, but uh kind I kind of believe the the the concussion, right? Uh but Maximus Bromer is going to be the guy now. And Bromer Bro show, former golden golfer, Quadzilla. Um and he performed well during the offseason, performed well in training camp well enough that he he beat out veterans Sam Howell as well as uh Brett Ribbonass. and he’s been trusted to be one snap away ever since JJ McCarthy had the high ankle sprain. So since week three between McCarthy’s injury as well as Carson Wentz’s injury, they’ve trusted Brosmer to be quarterback 2, one snap away. And you’ve seen the flashes, right? It’s more than, you know, just the JJ McCarthy flashes because of course the McCarthy flashes are a high-end, but there’s very high variance, right? And with Brosmer, it it does seem to be a little bit more low variance. And now, yes, he performed well in preseason with the threes against threes, but he was with threes. And remember, he played the Tennessee Titans first team defense. So, obviously, you know, Vikings fans are just rooting for anything at this point, but I feel like there might be a little something something there with the bro show. And we we’ve said this all off seasonason where yeah, we’re fully behind and we believe in JJ McCarthy is going to be the future franchise quarterback of the Vikings, but there’s something there with Brosmer and of course all of the talk of well this is Tre Lance and Brock Pury, etc. Hopefully not Brock Pury from Monday night because he kind of sucked. But anyways, uh long story longer, The Athletic, Alusa over there, uh the only goat writer at The Athletic. So have a piece. Who is Max Bromer? Why? why the Vikings possible starter versus Seahawks has felt inevitable, right? And it kind of felt that way too, right? So, uh, talk about Max Bromer and Kevin. I think Max is as smart as any young player I’ve been around. Had Brosmer, a 24-year-old rookie out of the University of Minnesota. Remember, he’s almost two years older than McCarthy. Uh, struggled to transfer his knowledge of the Vikings complex system into practice. Uh, this praise would have been less meaningful in hindsight. Bromer was impressive though. He threw the ball well during summer workouts. He operated the offense efficiently effectively in training camp. He was undaunted by preseason action going 35 of 58 uh for 364 two touchdowns on a pick over three games. Okonnell had enough confidence to play him with a third team offense against the Tennessee Titans starters on defense. Also, he would have had a game-winning touchdown if Miles Price just turned his head just like against the Patriots. Uh the coach’s review of how Brosmer handled circumstances moving the team and getting the ball out. Okonnell said he was seeing things a veteran level type of eye progression which is high praise from Kevin Okonnell continue he his on the-fly processing ability was part of what intrigued Okonnell two years ago when he attended the Minnesota Golden Gophers proday bromer had not yet played for Minnesota being local allowed Okonnell to keep close tabs on Brosmer’s development particularly over the back half of his final uh collegiate season because remember he started out at New Hampshire and then came aboard for the Gophers for one season and progressively got better throughout the year. Uh it did not hurt that the Gophers, a school position fewer than 20 miles from the Vikings facility and one that has close ties to the pro franchise has had integrated many of the Vikings passing concepts into their offense. So PJ Fleck idea stealer. Shocker, right? Uh it continued bro show going undrafted allowed Okonnell to recruit him this spring. His arrival and impressions were paired with wildly bold impressions from scouts like Eric Galo, the director of football operations for the East West Shrine Bowl and a longtime evaluator. I’ll stand by it, Galo said in August. I’ll be really surprised if Max does not start games in the AFL early. It’s not as crazy as it sounds. Max is going to run the offense at a high level. He’s not going to miss throws he shouldn’t miss. he’s going to trust the offense and that’s basically what the Vikings are looking for right now because obviously like we said McCarthy has been high variance but just the simple things he’s been struggling with and with bros like this is not a talent bar team like the offensive line hopefully Daras Jackson are good to go is elite they can run the ball they got Jefferson Nass the best wide receiver do in the National Football League TJ Hawinson is also a player on this team so there’s so much damn talent on this offense All they it goes back to what we said all offseason. It’s a Ferrari. All the quarterback has to do is keep the car on the road. And McCarthy maybe didn’t keep the car on the road, but bros show that’s all that he has to do. Bros eventually getting a chance seemed unavoidable, especially in recent weeks. It’s not that the Vikings were going to bench McCarthy, who has played at historically poor level. When you start hearing things like Demarcus Russell, it’s just like maybe this is bad. This is very bad. It’s more the injury history and the number of hits he’s taken. So, you know, Brosmer gets his shot. And going back and looking at scouting report, this from Lance Zerline NFL.com. Um, honestly, if Brosmer was drafted late day three, I don’t think anyone would have batted an eye. So, draft projection around six and seven. Vikings got him as a UDFA with 250K guaranteed. Confident cerebral quarterback with average traits who proved he could play at the FBS level. Brober has an average arm but throws with anticipation and a sudden release. ideo. That’s all we need. That’s all we effing need. His ball placement needs work to become more accomplished against tight man coverage, but he can pick apart zone coverages with intermediate throws. Uh he’s asked to read and attack coverages and can do so when in rhythm, but his production nose dives uh when the pocket heats up and he’s forced to move. Well, let’s get let’s give him a freaking pocket then. Bromer’s lack of mobility and second reaction playmaking hurts his chances, but he should be appealing to a play actionbased offense. utilizing levels route concepts. That’s the Vikings to a team. All right. And Bromer, uh, he’s going to have a he he’s certainly going to have a a tough situation coming on up where you’re on the road against Seattle. Seattle’s defense is legit. Uh, you know, the twelves are back in full force because the team is actually good. So, the Fairweather fans are back. So th this is a herculean ask of Brosmer in his first career NFL start. But frankly the bar is set pretty low. All right because as big of a fan as we are McCarthy and as much as we believe in his future it hasn’t been good the last three weeks just has not been good. Uh, but if Brosmer shows up, operates the offense, his droops the football against Jefferson Addson going all of a sudden, baby, we got a stew going, maybe go in there, shock the world as 10 and a half point dogs uh against the Seahawks.
