  1. He’ll eventually want to come to the US. I think it’s a smart move for him and his family. Japan isn’t too far from Taiwan. Hopefully he gets developed more there and makes his way here in 3 years. I know he does want to be playing in the MLB.

  2. > His decision ends a fierce bidding war involving multiple NPB and Major League Baseball clubs

Highly doubt it was even that fierce to begin with if MLB teams only offered him a minor league deal.

  3. Dodgers wanted him to become a reliever and couldn’t offer as much money due to posting system. It’s a no brainer.

  4. I think he’s got MLB upside (though durability is a huge concern), but no player posted from Taiwanese league has ever gone straight to MLB.

  5. Got an offer for almost $10M for 3 years, can still be a free agent to join MLB if he does well

His old team receives $2M posting fee

    Win win deal

Especially he already has injury history and concern about his ability to start consistently at the highest level

Hawks has been a contender/champion for over a decade. World class facility and infrastructure. Great place to play baseball in the next 3 years

  6. This all but prevents him from joining the MLB until his contract is up unless stipulated in his contract. Hawks have never posted a player. Senga, Arihara all had their international rights up when they came over

  7. Oh wow I actually saw this guy play in Taiwan. He gave up 0 runs in 5 innings and the team lost 5-0. Looks like he ended up being 5-7 with a 2.05 era which is skenes-esque lol.

  8. Basically $10 Million and gets to stay closer to family, knowing that his talent is in demand…I guess life really *is* easy for a boy named Hsu.

  9. I mean, it is not a surprise. He would have a hard time breaking into our rotation with River Ryan coming back next year and Roki moving back to the starter spot. He is nice, but he is not better than the those 2, never mind Sheehan and the four aces.
