THE HERD | Colin Cowherd CONFIDENT, Seattle Seahawks Will DOMINATE Minnesota | NFL

Sam Darnold was very, very bad a couple of weeks ago. Four interceptions, right? Well, how about this one? He’s now facing the Vikings. Oh boy, this is a huge revenge spot for Darnold. 11 and a half point favorites. And Vikings DC Brian Flores knows Darnold well and uh you know, he has some plans on how to defend him. He did a lot of great things and he’s here and and clearly those things are continuing to show up uh for him uh out there in Seattle. He’s doing a great job. I’m happy for him. Uh but we will blitz him this week. That’s for sure. Yeah, the the line has moved. I thought it was one of the I I thought it was the best line on the board when it was 9 1/2 10. I still think at 11 12 Seattle’s the side. Um, I I think CI right now they’re going to start maybe a rookie for Minnesota. It’s it’s going to be ugly. Seattle, by the way, you know, they’re going to play well because they had that game against Jacksonville. They dominate the first half and then the defense doesn’t really show up in the second half. So, it’s Shawn Pton Noah says the best weeks of practice are when you win ugly because you can really coach your team hard. So, uh I I like Seattle comfortably in this one. Yeah. So, you mentioned they’re starting the rookie. His name is Max Bromer. If you look up a picture of this guy, he’s got the facial hair of like a mid-century French artist. He can’t grow like a real goatee. It could be like a Bond villain. Um I I don’t think he has any chance going into Seattle. I know. All right, we don’t got to make fun of his physical appearance right now. Um, but uh, you know, I know Brian Flores was was kind of uh, you know, a little tongue and cheek there, but I I I actually think it’s kind of like a kind of a weak comment by Brian Flores. I’ll be honest with you, because he’s saying it, again, he said it with a smile on his face and all that, but he’s pretty much saying like Sam can’t handle it. uh which as a coach and as someone who’s worked with Sam, you know, who who’s been part of the same team as Sam, I just think it’s uh I don’t know. I think it’s actually kind of just a pretty weak uh you know, small man comet. Just the way I see it. Don’t care. Uh but uh this team is going to elevate for Sam Darnold. Uh I’ve said this before. I’ve said this a lot. It’s one of my favorite takes and it is incredibly accurate. These teams rally behind their teammate, their teammate when they are playing a a previous team, a previous situation. That is what the team is going to build around. That is what the coaching staff is going to build. Like that is where all the motivation, all the energy, all the excitement. You see it again and again and again. saw it with the Rams uh versus uh the Lions, with Goff, with with um a def an offensive coordinator and um uh Cliff Kingsbury with the Washington Commanders going up against the Arizona Cardinals, you know, because he was a fired head coach. And after that, and I said, “Oh, that’s going to be a huge one for Cliff. They’re going to rally behind him.” And it’s funny because Arizona Cardinals fans tried to say, “No, no, that’s not true.” And even Commanders fans like, “No, no, that’s not true.” After the game, everybody was celebrating for uh Cliff Kingsbury. Cliff Kingsbury was like in the center and it was all like, “Yeah, everyone patting him.” And that’s what that’s how this works. And that’s just for an offensive coordinator like that. That’s just how it works. And so, you know, the Seahawks, excuse me, the Vikings, like again, they treated Sam very well and it was very mutually beneficial, but at the end of the day, they said, “We’re not moving forward with you.” Right? At the end of the day, they did not say, “We want you here. we are going to pay you the money. You know, it’s not like you’re asking for $900 million here. Like they they were like, “Yeah, okay. We want to keep you, but like we don’t want to give you as much money as maybe you want or we don’t want to give you the sense of stability, whatever it is.” And so, like the the team knows it. Sam knows it. They want to rock the Minnesota Vikings. They want to absolutely annihilate the Minnesota Vikings. And to be fair, to be clear, and that’s what I like about this team because they’re very mature. They’re very smart. It’s not going to necessarily be the Sam Darnold show. It’s not going to be like, “Well, we want Sam to throw for 400 yards.” It may be that way because that’s the way how the game unfolds, but this team’s too smart. Uh they’re too well coached. They’re too organized, and there’s too much at stake. They are a legitimate bonafide Super Bowl contender without a shadow of a doubt. And so, this defense is going to be just ready, just they’re going to just attack, attack, attack, attack. They are just going to just get after this Minnesota Vikings offense. It’s just it’s just going to be crazy. And that’s what’s going to be interesting because then it’s going to be like, well, what will they need even out of Sam Darnold and this offense? And he’s like, I’m going to blitz. I’m going to blitz. It’s like, and Sam Darnold has been great against the Blitz. He’s been better than Patrick Mahomes this season against the Blitz. We can stop pretending like, oh, the way he beat Sam is he just blitz him and that’s it. It’s just like, oh, okay, sure. Right. If that was the case, then he wouldn’t be in the NFL. Okay. He wouldn’t last this long. he wouldn’t have the amount of success that he’s had. Okay. So, like we we we we we can settle down. Sam Darnold last year. Okay. With the Minnesota Vikings when blitzed 12 touchdowns, zero interceptions, and 1,400 yards. So, go ahead, blitz them. I you know he’ll be top six in touchdown passes and zero. Look at this. Everyone above him. They either just have a couple or a few more touchdowns than him. They all got interceptions. He’s the one outlier. He’s the only one in the top that had zero interceptions. So go ahead blitz him. He was top eight in passing yards. 65% completion percentage. and had the best passer rating in the NFL with the against the Blitz. So, go ahead, blitz him. I dare you. Sam Darnold was top four in pressures. Joe Burrow, who had a comically hilariously awful O line, was pressured 248 times. Sam Darnold 236. I assume Joe Burrow had more. Yeah. So, Joe Burrow did have 725 dropbacks, which is, you know, that’s insane. But yeah, we can we can stop pretending. And Joe Burrow did have to get rid of the ball way quicker. 2.6 3.07. But regardless, pressured a lot and he dealt with it great. So, let’s just chill. You know, this reminds me of the defensive coordinator for the Washington Commanders going into the NFC Championship game. And he was like, “Oh, this Eagles team, they’ve been great. Jaylen Herz, but Jaylen Herz wants to run. We’re going to hit him.” But he said, “We’re going to hit him.” Well, you couldn’t. You couldn’t. You couldn’t hit him. You couldn’t hit Saquon. You couldn’t hit Devonte. You couldn’t hit AJ. And they hung uh what was it? 55 points or whatever the heck that final score was. So, you know, defensive coordinators always like to talk. They like to talk a lot. This is what this reminds me of. he’s going to run the ball and if the coordinator makes a decision for him to run the ball, we’re going to treat him like a running back and we’re going to hit him that way, you know, hit him that way, you know, so that’s that’s their decision if they want to get him hit the way that that that he gets hit. If they they don’t, they’ll keep him in the pocket. And then um Jaylen Herz then went 20 for 28, 246 yards, a 110 passer rating, one touchdown, 10 carries for 16 yards, and three rushing touchdowns. 55 to 23, seven for seven in the red zone. So, these defensive coordinators always love to talk a lot. That’s what that reminds me of. At least the Washington Commanders were in the NFC Championship game. At least that he had Jane Daniels on that team. Apparently, according to JMack, he got a Minnesota Vikings have a French painter or something. I don’t know what the heck he said. I was half paying attention uh when he started describing his physical appearance. So, I love this. Now, I love this. I love this. Listen, I am such the person who says like I just want everyone to say the right things at the mic. Be neutral, blah blah blah blah blah. Be complimentary. Like, I’m always like, if I was a coach, if I was the owner, a GM, whoever, I would make sure that everyone understands you. You say neutral things at the mic. You say nothing but positives about the other team, you know, everything is always just like, I’m really excited. This is a great team we’re going up against. We know we’re going to get their best shot and, you know, looking forward to it, right? just like nothing but just neutral, kind, just just just just that’s it, right? It’s really if you don’t got anything nice to say, then don’t say at all. I don’t care how it sounds. I don’t care how generic it is. That that’s what I would demand if I was like the owner. I’m the owner. If I was the coach and I had like the control to be like this is what I expect from my guys. We keep all of our conversations inhouse. That’s the way how I expect it. But I’m happy people don’t do that. You know, I am. It’s not how I want to handle it. But I’m happy. I like I do like I I don’t mind when the NFL turns into a little bit of the WWE. And again, it’s not like Brian Flores was necessarily doing that. It was a little bit more of a tongue-in-cheek comment, but it it’s still a comment. It’s still it still is a comment. And um the Minnesota Vikings have been terrible the moment they let Sam Darnold walk. It’s just reality. They’ve been terrible. They’ve been awful. And they’ve been bad at the quarterback position. And the moment Sam Darnold got to Seattle, they’ve been special. They’ve been great. They’ve been elite. They have a legitimate path to the Super Bowl. They have a legitimate path to win the Super Bowl this year. Minnesota Vikings don’t. So, I’m pumped for this game. I was already pumped for this game to begin with because it’s a Seahawks Vikings. Sam Donn the return. I love those games. I love those moments. I loved it. I I lived for it myself when I was playing even when I was like real young and you’re just like playing uh against like you know an old father who was like you know who coached your team you know who coached me before you know like when I was 10 he coached me but now when I’m 11 I have a new coach I’m like I want to beat that team or whatever it is like even when the stakes were super low right and it was just like I don’t know like inter mural whatever it was like I’m going up against you I can’t wait and I promise you that that never leaves like I promise you Sam Darnold felt that way when he was 10, when he was 18, when he was 20, like doesn’t matter. Like you just you just always want it. You just always want it. Something that like every single player can identify with. Every single player can identify with because I promise you they’ve exp they want to go up against their friends again. Whether you’re playing inter mural basketball, whether it’s college pro, whatever it is, whatever it is, it’s just something that’s just in your like deepseated into your soul. And so I I connect to those games so much. I really do. And now you’re adding more fuel to that fire. Oh mama. Oh mama. This has a feeling like when Colin said, “Nah, this Seattle Seahawks team makes too many mistakes. They got to go across the country and go up against the Washington Commanders on Monday Night Football. This team can’t handle that.” And I was like, “What are you talk? This team can’t get on a plane and fly cross. They’re the one team in the NFL that doesn’t know how to fly to a different state, you know? Like, what are you talking about right now? They make too many mistakes. Oh, Seattle. I don’t talk a lot of big games. I really don’t. I keep things kind of neutral, kind of grounded going into the games. I just like to watch the games unfold. I I’ve said this many times. I care more about uh I’m more interested in postgame analysis rather than pregame analysis. Try to make predictions is silly to me. Anytime anyone’s like, “I think they’re going to win 27 to 23,” I’m always like, “Sure, whatever.” Um, and I try to predict what will the conversation be based on the outcome. Like, that’s how I kind of handle my pregame rather than try to like predict what I think will actually be the outcome. But like um there’s certain moments I’m just like let’s just go for it. Let’s just go for it. So I can’t wait. I’m so fascinated. I can’t wait. This game got so much extra juicy for me right now. There’s a lot of weird games this weekend. Some games that really just fundamentally don’t matter. Uh, and um, there’s some games we were just kind of like, ah, I don’t I don’t know how to necessarily make sense of the Packers versus the Lions, the Chiefs versus uh, the Cowboys and whatnot, Eagles, Bears, like those should all be great games, but like just like, you know, kind of have to wrestle with what all of those games mean, which I I love as well. This is uncomplicated. This is let let’s have a beatd down. Let’s just let’s just dominate the Vikings. Let’s just let’s just let’s just stop. Let’s just stop at the nonsense. Jackson Smith and Jigba, Sam Darnold, Cooper Cub. This defense, this violent, physical, brutal defense. I can’t wait. I can’t wait. Those are just my thoughts. I’d absolutely love to hear yours. What do you guys all think about the Seattle Seahawks? um and just the happiness for Sam Darnold that the Minnesota Vikings feel towards him. Let me know your thoughts in the comments below. I read every single comment whether you agree with me or disagree with me. Either way, let’s get in some discussions. Let’s get in some fights, but ultimately, let’s just have some fun. 1. Enjoy your content! However, I think that you are reading too much into things. Brian Flores said that Sam was "one of his favorites". I think that he has utmost respect for Sam. B. Flo's philosophy is all about heating and hurrying up All QB's. Hence, he blitzes more than any other DC in the NFL. It was not meant as a knock on Sam.

  2. And…OF COURSE…Sam practiced against the Vikings D every day of practice for a whole season. You think he doesn't know every type of scheme that they will run in this game? Sam will pick this OVER RATED Defense and VASTLY OVER RATED Def Coordinator apart!

  3. The Seahawks aren't going to win this game. No one is taking the Vikings seriously anymore, and those who think Max will be just as bad as JJ are in for a RUDE awakening.

  4. Brosmer is actually pretty good i think. He doesnt have any wow factor but he's accurate and smart with the ball, or at least he was all through college. I see him a lot like a Purdy or Hurts. I think its good we're getting him now and not after 3 or 4 starts.
