I have a hard time believing that Andy Reid decided, with Mahomes at QB (and Josh Simmons still in the game), against a bottom 10 NFL defense, that the best play they could come up with is to have each receiver run a 5 yard hitch at the EXACT SAME DEPTH and having everyone stare blankly at Mahomes who then proceeds to scramble into a sack because there is NO SECOND READ

Does Nagy think that Mahomes is Trubisky and he's coaching the Bears because that is exactly what this looks like.

What is Matt Nagy is trying to do here?

  1. Idk what the down and distance was, but it looks like the box is also light, so why not run it?

  2. Yea, this specific play confused me as well. I’m not claiming to be a football expert, I just don’t get the aim of this play.

  3. Nagy is incompetent and disengenius at the very least. That place was a 20-yard play to get a first down, and the stupid bastard has the receivers run 5-yard routes? When they hired him as OC, I knew our offense was going to struggle, now it’s coming to fruition.

You have a generational QB, along with top-tier receivers, yet, we run some basic-ass high school plays because our OC and HC are too scared to let our team stretch their wings.

  4. I mean before the play even started I would’ve assumed that the first read would’ve been the wideout right. Just because of the way we are lined up against the defense. Coverage wise they seem pretty even across the field so I’d always choose the side with two receivers. Don’t know why anyone would think that Worthy would be the first read on a route like that anyway.

  5. This does not nearly get talked about enough. Why do our WRs never run quick, hard cutting routes that get defenders moving side-to-side or force zone handoffs from defenses that could get missed? Why do we never get Rice matched on linebackers anymore where he can replace what Kelce used to do? Why do Worthy and Brown not run hard cutting slants that kill defenders 1×1? Why does Thornton never get targets? Why has Noah Gray just ceased to exist? Every route combination is like this, guys drifting downfield easing left or right as a defender easily stays in their hip pocket, while no one looks back at Mahomes for 5 seconds. By then, 15 is getting pressured or bailing from clean pockets when guys FINALLY come open. These route schemes straight up SUCK. Madden plays. Backyard football routes.

  6. Looks like by the replay it’s 2nd & what? 20 there? So they ran a bunch of 10 yard curls trying to get 1/2 of it back to set up for 3rd down.

What would be a better play call on 2nd & 20?

The title of this post should read.

    # What is Andy Reid & Matt Nagy is trying to do here?

So long as we’re clear on who is running the show and you lump them in together, I’m find with all praise and/or criticism. But you can’t say one thing about Nagy and nothing about Reid. That’s now how this team is ran.

  7. The play calling the last few weeks has been truly baffling.

These 5 yard hitch routes were on a 3rd and 19!! WTF?!?

Then there’s the broncos game, where we inexplicably completely abandoned the run game. Despite Andy saying at half, that they needed to get it going. Two 3 and outs in the final 8 minutes of the game where we didn’t run it once and took a combined 2:52 off the clock.

Also every short yardage play, we line up in shotgun. FFS just teach Minshew to do the QB sneak if you don’t want Pat doing it. I just watched the Riders win the Grey Cup using their backup run a QB sneak every time it was short yardage for the first down.

If I, a dummy sitting on my couch, know what the team is going to do on offense, you bet your ass a professional team that’s been studying all week know what to do on defense to prevent it.

  8. There is some major over reacting happening across the fandom but the offensive play calling is the one thing that really can’t be defended lately. Completely unoriginal and uninspired. So many teams are doing so much more with so much less.

  9. Mahomes is never going to win mvp again rice is never going to be the top Wr he’s shown he can be worthy is never going to be that super elite Wr2/WR1B they he has shown flashes he can also be with Nagy as OC and it used to be just that players getting hindered individually lower stats and a cap on development for young talent but it’s actively costing us games and most likely missing the playoffs. Things need to change new people should be coming in we a newer fresher mindset and a more modern offense

And before someone comments about how many afccg we been to or SBs we’ve been to or how many rings ww have that’s the past and I don’t really care about the past every year is new year and teams were constantly getting better trying to win while we been content with rolling out the same team with aging players thinking everything was going to be sweet we should have been aggressive with getting better after that embarrassing blowout last year in bowl but people in here and evidently the FO tricked themselves into believing we only lost because of bad Oline play. And after that embarrassment you have a joke of a draft and while your team was negative/500. You make no needed moves at the deadline
