Jacob Misiorowski Extension Talks Reportedly Yet To Gain Traction

We should extend him. I don’t care how much sand Mark needs to steal, but this offseason is important. We might have a higher than normal price tag, but it’ll pay off in dividends for the next half decade. (And it’ll save us money in those years)
Not sure this is something that will end up materializing this offseason. Rightfully so, Miz’s representation will point to his pre-All Star break performances, all star nod, and Cubs relief appearances as proof he deserves a large contract. FO will point to… everything else as to why the number should be lower.
Im going to guess there will likely be too large of a delta between the two sides, combined with the fact that he is under team control, as to why this won’t happen right now.
Love Miz but with the mixed track record during the regular season and the likelihood that a hard thrower like him will be needing surgery at some point I’d be leery as a small market.
That’s probably wise. He’s a pitcher with a little bit of a funky delivery who has had command issues. I kove Miz and hope he’s around for a long time. But his profile is one that could easily turn south pretty quickly. I’m not anticipating that happens with him at all, but at this point, extending him early feels like a relatively big risk.
Barring a super uncommon injury, Chourio always had a floor as a pretty solid regular and had superstar potential. So he made a ton of sense to extend super early. Miz has the crazy high upside, but his floor is still pretty low. Extending him at this point likely isn’t in anyone’s best interest IMO.
Yeah he is way too much of a wild card now to be offering him even what Chourio got. He could turn out to be really good or turn out to be really average if he can’t get the ball over the plate. Waiting one more year is probably prudent for both sides.
Probably unpopular but I think talking about an extension right now is crazy. The price will certainly be higher if he’s great next year but I’d feel a lot better after seeing what he does with a full season. As it stands, the discussion is about whether they should throw a bunch of money at a guy with 14 career starts & half of them ranged from iffy to bad. That’s an enormous gamble for a team that’s very mindful of its spending.
