LAST-MINUTE Commanders Week 13 News: SURPRISING Final Injury Report + Commanders Coach LEAVES Team

Welcome into the Commanders Report. I’m your host, Jax Sperry. We are just about 24 hours away from the Washington Commanders’ Sunday night football match up here in week 13 versus the Denver Broncos. Ponzi and I will be going live for that game tomorrow starting at around 8 8:00 p.m. Eastern time tomorrow. So, make sure you guys click that subscribe button if you haven’t already. Today, I’ve got some last minute news updates for the Washington Commanders before this ball game. So, now let’s get into kind of the last minute news updates here as we get ready for Sunday Night Football. Starting with the Commander injury Report. U like most weeks, it’s pretty extensive here, but uh we did get official word on the statuses of many key players heading into this matchup here. We kind of knew Jaden Daniels was kind of a long shot to play uh this week. he is officially out, still coming back from that elbow dislocation. It does sound like that he could be back as soon as next week. Um, you know, kind of at the latest, maybe by the end of the month of December. So, it certainly seems like JD at some point during the 2025 season will be back in the fold, just not this week. Marcus Mariota will once again get the start for the Commanders. Then Drake Jackson, uh, who has been working his way back, uh, from a number of lower body injuries that he suffered last year. Um they signed him to the roster over a month ago at this point and was placed on IR. Hasn’t played a game in a commander uniform since. Uh but he’s been practicing the last uh 3 weeks and he’s still not apparently ramped up enough to go. So he will be out. And then Noah Brown, who’s been uh ramping up and practicing over the last three weeks as well, was even a full participant at some point this week. He will be unable to go still. Uh, but my guess is Noah will probably be able to return to the lineup very soon, probably next week. Um, so those are the three players that will be out, notable players that’ll be out. Um, Will Harris is technically listed as questionable, but the team did add him to the active roster today. They act activated him off of IR. Of course, Will has missed a number of weeks with that really bad leg injury that he suffered at the beginning of the season, but uh with the elevation from IR, it certainly seems like he’s going to be able to uh play tomorrow night. So, that’s some good news and some reinforcements coming uh for the Washington Commanders secondary. Then some players that are going to be in and confirmed to be in tomorrow night. Uh Terry McLuren, who’s been out obviously most of this season, uh the star receiver for the Commanders, will be back in the fold tomorrow night. So it’ll be great to see what he can do against a really good Denver Broncos defense. Then Taylen Burks, who’s been coming back from a finger surgery. Uh he had to get that surgery done before um before the before the Madrid game and he will be in the fold tomorrow night. So to see Terry McLuren, Debo Samuel, and Jaylen Burks all on the field tomorrow uh could be fun and could be maybe the best wide receiver trio that we’ve seen from the Washington Commander since the beginning of the season at this point. Also, Ben Sinnet, the young tight end, will be returning to the lineup. He’s been working his way back from an ankle injury. He suffered in practice before the Madrid game. And then Jaylen Lane, um the punt returner, wide receiver, will also be good to go. uh finally got back up to full participation yesterday. And now away from the injury updates here for the Commanders to uh some news around the coaching staff here where Commanders quarterback’s coach Tvita Pritchard has been hired to be the next head coach of the Stanford Cardinal football team. And obviously he immediately leaves the team to take on that occupation and that means David Blau uh the assistant quarterback’s coach for the Commanders takes over as the uh interim QB coach for the rest of the season. Now, obviously, uh, we we wish Dvita the the best of luck at Stanford. Uh, you know, Pritchard was the QB coach to Andrew Luck when he was at Stanford under David Shaw or under Jim Harbaugh, I should say. And, uh, obviously he worked with Andrew Luck in college. He’s he’s got that connection to Stanford. And now that Luck is in charge of running, uh, the Stanford football program, he has chosen Pritchard to be the next headman um, in Stanford. So, that’s a really great opportunity for him. We wish him the best of luck, but that kind of sucks uh being a Commanders fan because he would have been one of the potential OC replacement options uh that the Commanders could have chosen from if Cliff Kingsbury ends up getting poached to be a head coach in the National Football League this upcoming off season. And obviously, I think, you know, Pritchard would have been one of those guys that would have been able to, you know, keep the current offensive kind of system in place if Cliff ended up getting a job to be a head coach elsewhere in the NFL. Now, because the Commanders, frankly, are not playing all that well this year, um, you know, the I would say the chances of Cliff getting poached have certainly been decreased. So, I I if I’d have to guess right now, I do think Kingsbury returns as this team’s offensive coordinator next year. But if this team ever gets back to that point where they were last season where they’re a playoff team, they’re competing for championships, uh, I would say, you know, it’s only a matter of time before Cliff Kingsbury ends up getting poached to be a head coach in the National Football League yet again. And the Commanders need to have a plan of action to find their next OC in case that happens. And, you know, we’ve seen some uh, teams hire from within when offensive and defensive coordinators get poached for head coaching opportunities. and you know to different varying results. The Eagles, it seems like every time the the Philadelphia Eagles hire from within, Kevin Patulo, their offensive coordinator this year being a great example, doesn’t seem like it it’s it’s all it ends up being all that great. Um, so personally I think if Cliff ends up getting poached, I think I might rather uh hire from outside the organization, especially if somebody um that has a connection to Dan Quinn opens up. Maybe someone like a Mike McDaniel um from the Miami Dolphins if he ends up getting fired. I would really love him to replace Cliff Kingsbury if Cliff ends up getting poached. And there’s some other guys uh that I would look at as well outside of the organization now that Tvita is out as quarterback’s coach. I would say at this point the guys to keep your eye on if they’re going to hire from within are Anthony Lynn. Um Anthony Lynn is obviously a former offensive coordinator, former head coach in the National Football League, the current running back’s coach here in Washington would be somebody to think about. And then David Blau himself, the assistant quarterback’s coach, now the interim QB coach, um former player in the National Football League, very smart guy. Uh could certainly see him rise up the coaching ranks very quickly. And you know, if if he feels confident that he can execute and and call this offense and the style of offense that Cliff Kingsbury has had here in Washington over the last several years, then he’s certainly somebody that I would consider as well. Now, I’ll finish up today’s show here, guys, by talking a little bit about tomorrow night, what it means, what are the key storylines, and what you guys should be keeping your eye on. Obviously, with no Jaden Daniels, that’s that’s a bummer still. Um, but you know, the number one thing with Jaden for the rest of the season is just to make sure he gets back to 100% healthy. I I would think it’s going to take at least a couple more weeks for that to really take place. And we’ve seen Marcus Mariota kind of keep this offense afloat. When Jaden Daniels has been out of the lineup, they’ve started to dabble a little bit in some heavy personnel packages with an extra offensive lineman. Now you’re getting Terry McLuren back which should open up some other opportunities for guys like Debo Samuel and Treyen Burks. Two guys that are really good after the catch, open things up underneath for guys like Zack Z and you know open things up for the run game as well. So you know it’s a very good defense that the Commanders will be playing against on uh Sunday night. But I will also say, man, like we saw this defense for the Commanders play a lot better against the Miami Dolphins in Madrid a couple weeks ago. And with Will Harris uh being included in this week’s lineup, you know, I I I I think we could see another decent performance from the Commanders defense against a Broncos team and Bo Knicks uh that have kind of struggled this year. JK Dobbins is once again injured, so you know, they’re kind of down bad in terms of their running back depth. I’m kind of excited to see what this Commanders team is going to be able to do. And really for the rest of the season, Washington is really playing with house money. They’re just trying to figure out, you know, which players to keep for future seasons, which players uh can help contribute to future seasons in terms of trying to get this team another championship. So, it’s going to be interesting to see what ends up happening tomorrow night. Ponzi will be live tomorrow. Commanders QB Coach Tavita Pritchard gets hired by Stanford to be their next Head Coach. Pritchard would have been one of the possible OC replacements for Washington if Kliff Kingsbury ends up getting poached this offseason.
