Jase Richardson Magic Breakout… (Breakdown)

So during the preseason, one of my favorite watches was Jace Richardson. He he was unbelievable in my eyes. And then fast forward to the regular season, he never plays unless it’s garbage time. Before tonight, his career high in minutes was eight. Finally, he got extended run and he looked amazing. An efficient 18 points in 21 minutes. And the Magic actually ended up winning his minutes despite losing the game. First play, he catches, ball fakes to the right. that gets the defender shifted and he goes the other way. Quick first step and then he avoids the swipe and smartly opts for the floater over the long defender. His next shot attempt at this point he has no advantage, but the quick change of direction, the quick first step comes into play again. This probably should have been a pass to the corner. Now he’s forcing up a shot with multiple defenders in his area. Unfortunately, he misses. And this is exactly what you do against ball pressure. You take it as disrespect and put your head down and beat him to the basket. And this time he makes the contested layup. Hayden Pritchard tries to take advantage of the rookie and I was impressed. He avoids the foul while getting a very aggressive contest. Initially against Derek White, he does a good job defensively, but then he kind of gets shifted. Luckily, there’s help defense behind him and he never gave up on the play. Also a solid contest here. Desmond Bane throws him an offline pass. No problem. He’ll beat the close out and then makes a crosscourt read right on target. Just an unfortunate miss. Now, this was actually his first match up with Peyton Pritchard. Accidentally skipped over it, made a bucket on him, though. We then did not see him until the fourth quarter. He starts it off with a wideopen three. Baylor Shyman gets the better of him on this one. That was the first time he truly got overpowered. This is a great example of why he would be so useful next to Fron and Paulo because look at this double team on Panda crosscourt pass and there’s just no chance for Derek White to get in front of him. He He’s just way too quick and decisive and then he takes the contact ctors in the air and one. Fron and Paulo are always doubled and this is a guy who will make the defense pay for double teaming them consistently or he has a chance to. The Magic immediately get a stop and what do you know? In transition, he hits a three-pointer and he’s low-key giving them hope. It’s just an 11-point game after it seemed like it was going to be a blowout. Man oh man, the Magic had the rookies cooking. Pendas basically cosplaying Fron and Paulo double teamed again. Jace Richardson wide open. What do you know? He makes the defense pay. This time he just whizzes by Pritchard. Jaylen Brown has to switch. And look at this hesitation into the jumper. And look at Jaylen Brown. He’s dejected. He’s like, “Are you kidding me? Who is this dude?” Same exact action. This time, Peyton Pritchard stays attached. He’s trying to, you know, do a foul baiting tactic. You’re not going to get that call as a rookie, unfortunately. And at this point, the game’s over, but he never knows when he’s going to play. So, he’s still aggressive and he gets Derek Whited. He’s one of the best shot blocking guards in the NBA, so it’s nothing to feel bad about. I understand Jace Richardson is a rookie, but I’m telling you something that is missing on this Magic roster is speed. And especially when Jaylen Suggs is not in the game, it is apparent. You have a lot of large lanky bodies. Desmond Bane, France Vagner, Paulo, Tristan Dilva. Those players, yes, they are crafty, but also they rely a lot on physicality. There’s not a lot of players on the Magic that just catch and see you later. Jace Richardson provides that. He’s a different archetype and he compliments the rest of the group. I understand he’s a rookie. He’s probably not great defensively. He’ll probably be inefficient, but let’s just be real. You could use his archetype. You got forwards everywhere galore. You can hide him defensively. He’s just not getting run because they signed a veteran Taius Jones and they don’t want to piss him off because politics exists in the NBA. Do you agree? Do you disagree? Let me know your thoughts below.

  1. WHAT A FREAKING SHAME! Because of this TEENAGERS antics the CELTICS EVEN IN A WIN CANT TALK SHIT CUS THEY GOT TORCHED BY 3 ROOKIES forcing them to BRING ALL THE STARTERS BACK! wow thats embarrassing any way you look at it!

  2. Yeah he’s ready! Let him cook. His speed and aggressiveness on the perimeter is lacking on this team. Him, Jett, AB, Jalen is the rotation i wanna see in the backcourt

  3. If u was a magic fan this is how Jamal mosley develop rookies he gives them lil minutes, he did this with Black ,Jett and Tristan da saliva ,Jase will get the minutes next season cause I highly doubt magic will resign tyus jones but rn tyus is just a mentor for jase and a vet present for the team..

  4. Him and Jett need more minutes together I like their chemistry. When mo Wagner comes back that’s should add a lot of offensive value. Especially with ab added in

  5. Orlando Magic coach is a dumb ass. He has Tyus Jones playing over Richardson, which is a crime he might be a rookie but he is 100% better and that’s why the Orlando Magic aren’t winning right now..

  8. I've been saying this all year, he can be the spark plug off the bench, possibly even start depending on the matchup, but we really need his shooting and speed, it's not to say that I don't like tyus Jones but there is a reason the guy is not considered a starter

  9. The best shooters on the team are on the bench and can't get many minutes unless there is an injury. Hopefully these guys will get more minutes to develop. On any other team they would be excelling quicker, now you know why teams like OKC, Houston and Detroit have leaped passed Orlando despite Orlando having a head start on rebuilding and adding excellent draft picks. These teams and their coaches are not afraid to play their talent.
