ESPN's Buster Olney poured a bit of cold water on rumors that the San Francisco Giants could land NPB All-Star pitcher Tatsuya Imai in free agency this winter.
Olney wrote Saturday the Giants have been linked to Imai, "but a lot of their market pitching inquiries have been for more modestly priced arms."
He described that as "a strong indication they aren't chasing the highest priced pitchers, like Imai."
this could make us have a better shot at him

Dawg we’re in the same boat as them
We’re in no boat. Zero money for Imai.
Such a weird spelling of Los Angeles Dodgers.
Team is up for sale. Doubt we can land any top shelf FA’s or international talent till that is solved. Guys like this aren’t going to be interested signing longterm to a club w the uncertainty we have.
That said,AJ will fill out the card and we will be competitive w a WC slot shot.
I’m expecting the Mets to sign him. I watch for Padres news, but this isn’t it.
Giants will make a near zero difference in him signing with the Padres or not.
One we have very little money to spend.
Two there are other big market teams interested in him.
We ain’t getting him. At max our budget is like $20m and that’s really pushing it.
A guy like Imai will cover a majority if not all of that budget and we still have needs besides him.
I doubt preller spends pretty much all the budget on one guy. As that’ll force him to fill out the roster with cheap $1m options and we saw how that played last year.
It all truly depends on what owernship is thinking. Are they going to make up for that “honor Peter’s legacy” shitshow and make a long term investment for the fans, or will they cave in and sign Justin Verlander?
Anything but the Dodgers at this point, no quarter. Ffs I’ve started to like the Yankees, something even just a couple years ago I thought absolutely crazy.
We don’t have CBT space to sign Imai unless we trade away at least $10M.
If he doesn’t sign with us, really hope he signs with an AL team.

Imai is imminent🦾
