11/29 PHI @ NJD Postgame: Rick Tocchet
Tuck, was was that one of the more complete wins so far this year? Just the way you started, the way you executed on the goals, way goalending up and down the lineup. Yeah, it was a good hockey game, you know, and they made a push and, you know, we held it together. You know, we’re, you know, three and one on it’s a tough road trip. Um, so, you know, really excited for the guys. What’s it say about your group after starting the trip, you know, with a getting shut out against Tampa and the way they’ve kind of scored and pushed in in the last three games? Yeah. No, it’s uh you know it’s a you know we we the one with the one thing I love with this group is they always want to learn you know whether we win or lose or it’s a bad period it’s a good period you know they’re asking questions they’re they’re you know they’re trying to learn and that’s what we’re doing every day and uh trying to build some blocks here. In what respect do you see the offense you see them becoming more connected in the offensive zone and doing the things you want them to do? Yeah, we’re getting some movement more piston like you know I’m big in this piston offense. We’re trying to get guys to to get these areas and I think it’s coming. I mean, there’s still still work in progress. We had some really good ozone time. The D were really moving now, you know, the inside the second stick and all the stuff that we’re preaching, you know. Um, you’re starting to see um so yeah, yeah, it’s it’s it’s good. Rick, uh, they come with a a push at the end of the second period. It carries over into the third. They cut the lead to one. Sure. Then you guys have you take a penalty. But it seemed like from from that penalty and then even after the penalty, you guys came back with a surgery of your own. I guess where do you think that came from from the group? Well, I think it’s from all these tight games. This is just learning, you know, like you know, you’re when you’re not used to tight games and pressured games, you know, you’re we’re getting tons of reps of this stuff. I mean, every game you guys know, overtime and you know, whether we’re battling back or we’re giving up leads, it’s it’s a you know, and there’s not a lot of panic on the bench, you know, um there’s a there’s a lot of resolve, but know there’s stuff. Listen, we got to clean stuff up. We understand that. Got to execute under pressure a little bit more, but we’re a lot better we were 3 weeks ago when it comes to that. So, uh we just got to continue to grow that way. Um and stay positive. Trevor Zagger said after the shutout loss in Tampa, you guys had a meeting about playing tighter and more together. Do you feel like the team responded pretty well to that meeting? Yeah, just, you know, we we we just wanted we want to play consistent hockey. We’re, you know, when I talked to you guys, we’re chasing it, but we’re starting to catch up to it. You know, we’re not way behind it. We’re starting to catch up to it. And um you know, there’s certain things that we have to work on. You game management, you know, you know, tight games, you got to keep your stick down. You know, that’s something that we got to work on. You know, we I think we’ve got my only bone to pick is that, you know, is we’re stick penalties too much. But we’ll we’ll work on that and continue to be accountable with that and and and grow grow from that.
