Why The Miami Dolphins Should Wait Till The 2027 Draft!
So, a lot of fans, Miami Dolphin fans, want the Dolphins to lose the next couple of picks or games, I don’t know what I’m talking about, to get a higher draft pick. Well, there’s an article in Todd McShet comes out and talks about that 2026 might not be the year for that. [Music] What is up, Finn fans? How is everyone doing on this Tuesday? Uh, got a got a nice one here for you today. Going to be talking about the draft a little bit cuz to me, the season is over. Again, I I if I’m shocked, surprised, and anything happens and the Dolphins make the postseason, I will be the first to come on here and be like, I was wrong. I am so happy to be wrong. But like I showed you in yesterday’s video, a lot needs to go right for the Dolphins to even make the playoffs at 10 and seven. But we’re going to talk a little bit of draft because in said video, if I if you talk about playoffs at all, there’s there’s a portion of the fan base that, hey, keep winning, get to 10 and seven, and try to get in the playoffs. You never know what’s going to happen, which, you know, you’re not wrong. And then there’s a portion of the fan base that’s like, “Screw that. Lose the next six. Go four and 13.” Yeah. And get a top five draft pick and take the best quarterback available or take take whoever available. And you know, obviously I made a video kind of talking about why it’s going to be hard to make the playoffs if you go 10 and seven. I need to make a video for the other side of the spectrum kind of talking about that 2026 really isn’t the draft to do that. So, we’re going to talk about that. But real quick, I do have to shout out today’s sponsor and the sponsor of the channel Sleeper. Go check them out. Use a promo code DDW. You got 100% up to $100. And if you just want to give it a try for your first time, you can use uh a $20 free entry. No deposit needed. Just click the link in the description. So we will start with Todd McShet. So Todd McShet on November 14th, which was last Friday, nope, two Fridays ago came out with a Twitter chain where he talked about it and he said, “Just some notes, thoughts of the 2026 NFL draft quarterback market. Based off the current NFL draft order, I see three teams in the top 10 with pressing needs at quarterback. New England, uh, Jets, Cleveland, and, um, the Rams, the RA, the Raiders. Doug, come on. So, he thinks out of the top 10 picks, your teams that have the most pressing needs are the Jets, the Browns, and the Raiders. So, he doesn’t think that the Saints have a pressing need at quarterback. Interesting. Are they going to ride with Chuck again? So then he said, uh, then there’s the the Raiders who have two first round picks, including Atlanta’s pick, uh, the Rams, sorry, who have two first round picks, including Atlanta’s at 11 right now, and a 37year-old quarterback currently playing at an MVP level. Complicated, but good problems to have, maybe trade back to get additional compensations for loaded 27 quarterback class. He says, “There’s also the Saints who went who want to see how Shuck finishes the season. Maybe another team will trade back potential to load up for that insanely talented 27 quarterback group, giving Shuck another full season to prove himself.” He says, “Finally, there are a pair of potential a pair of teams potentially in the quarterback draft market for obvious reasons, but with obvious money complications, that being the Miami Dolphins and the Arizona Cardinals,” he says. So, that’s seven teams in the top 11 picks with varying degrees of quarterback needs. And if my intel is correct on Dante Moore and Lenor Sers returning to college, it leaves just two top 10 worthy quarterback prospects and Mendoza and Ty Simpson, both also eligible to return, not at all the supple uh the supply demand scenario we anticipated prior to the 2025 college football season. So again, he came out and said, “Look, 2027 looks much better, and there are teams in the top 10 like the Saints who might ride with Chuck and, you know, forego to the 2027 draft. There’s the Rams who have, you know, a future uh MVP, and I think he’s the MVP of the season in uh Stafford, who they might again see if he wants to come back for one more season and then go 2027 to get a quarterback.” And then again, you have the Dolphins and the Cardinals who probably want to move on from their quarterbacks. Um pro maybe not, I don’t know, but they have a quarterback situation, but they have a lot of money attached to them. And then you have guys like the Jets, the Raiders, and the Browns who don’t really have a quarterback. So, there’s that whole situation. Now, if you guys remember, like Todd McShete said, when we were in heading into the 2025 NFL draft, everyone was clamoring about the 2026 NFL draft. Oo, look at the 2026 draft and how the quarterbacks this and the quarterbacks that and yada yada blah blah blah. Now they’re saying that about 2027, probably because Lenor Sers and Dante Moore are, you know, like uh Tom McShay said with his intel going back for another year. So, there’s this article from Jeff How saying, “NFL executives worried about lackluster 2026 quarterback draft class. I don’t love any of them.” So, this came out around the same time that Friday, November 14th. So, a real a sobering reality is taking shape with the 2026 NFL draft class. As recently as a couple months ago, teams anticipated a stacked crop of quarterbacks, not necessarily rivaling the 2024 draft class, but surely better than the 2025 group. Uh, but with uh college quarterbacks underperforming across the board, there are serious concerns about the position, and that is going to reshape teams plans for the ongoing the opening round. Nobody is playing at the position well enough to be like, “That dude can take over my franchise said an NFL team’s executive who granted uh animity so he could speak openly.” So again, a lot of Dolphin fans want to, you know, get Mendoza, want to trade up or want to tank if any of these guys are out. And some of these NFL executives are saying they’re not that great. This could be a massive blow to teams like the Jets and Cleveland Browns who have glaring holes at quarterback and a pair of uh first round selections at their disposal. It also hurts the Tennessee Titans who are in the inside track on the top 10 pick and their ability to auction off the selection to the highest bidder. Of course, there’s plenty of time for evaluation to evolve between now and April, but the early analysis hasn’t been encou encouraging. There’s no clear-cut top prospect to truly set the pace for the rest of the class. I don’t love any of the quarterbacks right now. A second executive said, “We’re trying to grasp onto something because there isn’t anybody and it’s such a flavor of the week. Good luck right now.” For context, those two executives don’t work for teams that need a franchise quarterback. So, they’re not being disingenuous in an attempt to earn competitive advantage. They’re actually uh they’re they’d actually prefer those quarterbacks to climb up the rankings because it helps their teams get a chance to draft a better player at another position. No one ever believed this group had a chance to compete to the historic 2024 class, which featured six quarterbacks among the top 12 picks, including Caleb Williams, Jaden Daniels, Drake May right out of the shoot. Uh but after Cam Ward and Jackson Dart were the only first uh round quarterbacks in 2025, the common refrain was simple. Wait till next year. Well, it might already be time to kick the can down the road to 2027. Overall, we’re hoping it uh it was going to be better than last year. A third executive said there was a hangover from such a good class two years ago that were more uh there were more projected quarterbacks coming into this year, but the expectation of a high-end player never really materialized. Some of the young guys are leaning towards going back because they haven’t played well and aren’t ma and are making the NIL money. So, there’s that, right? and there and he goes into each of kind of these guys thought process. Um, and I’ll I’ll read through them really quick to just give you an idea of what the what this guy thinks of these quarterbacks, but what three executives are saying and even what Todd McShet is saying, especially with Dante Moore, Lenor Ser going back, Archie Manning is most likely not coming back, but he again had a very like I wouldn’t say bad, but it wasn’t a good year for a guy who everyone was saying, you know, March for Arch, you know, 2020 26 will get him in the first. And I’ve been telling you guys from jump. Manning stay in college for 4 years. I knew he was not coming out in 2026. Uh but the March for Arch and then this and that and blah blah blah. Um that didn’t materialize. And that NLI money is really something that is going to change these football players mentality. Right? As you look at the Dolphins taking Quinn Eers, right? Quinn Eers could have went to I don’t remember the school I was told, but Quinn Eers could have went to another college and probably made around 3 million give or take in NIL money. He is not making that with the Dolphins being a seventh round pick. Same thing with Shador Sanders. He lost a ton of money cuz he could have went to another college and made a buttload of money, especially with the year he had um in Colorado. but he decided to come out because he thought and a lot of people were, you know, talking about the fact that, oh, he’ll be a first, worst case scenario, a second round pick. He goes in the fifth and he lost a ton of money from the NIL to where he actually got drafted. So, here’s the thing that we need to realize when it comes to the next six games for the Dolphins. For me, uh, I look at the next six games as who’s who’s going to shine and is going to be a a a foundational piece to build for the future of this team like Devon Achan, like Jaylen Wadd, Patrick Paul. Um, I want to see what Taj and Malik Washington can do. I want to see uh Dolic do some more. Julian Hill on the flip side. I want to see what the rookies can do on the Dline. I want to see if C sealer can do a little bit more. I want to see Chop get more uh chances. I want to see obviously Juju Brent is hurt, but the secondary a little bit. Um especially the rookies that we have at the at the safety position. I want to see what these guys can do. And I also want to see what Mike McDaniel can do with these guys and do in critical situations, right? Say we win the next two games and we got to beat the Steelers or we got to beat the Buccaneers or you know, oh this is a game like they cannot lose a game for the next six games. The Miami Dolphins cannot lose a game and this is a situation where okay Mike your playoffs start now. How are you going to you know you’re facing a Saints team that you are better than on paper you’re better than the Saints. Will you fumble the ball like you did against the Panthers like you did against the Chargers? like you did against the Patriots where you had that game and you fumbled it away. That’s what I’m taking from the next six games because I’m not I will never tank. I go back to 2019. I was not for tanking. I was rooting for them to win. I did not care, you know, about any of that stuff because you look at teams that have these quarterbacks now like the uh Kansas City Chiefs, they didn’t tank. They just saw what they saw in Patrick Mahomes. No one else really saw it. Some did. they traded up and grabbed them. Same thing with the Buffalo Bills and Josh Allen. They wanted him, they traded up and got him. You like a quarterback and you think that guy has it, you go and get him. You don’t sit around and go, you know, we have to tank so we No, you go out and get that guy. So again, 2026 does not seem like that year. And again, things could change from to the senior bowl to the combine to the actual draft. Someone might shine. Ty Simpson might become, you know, the second pick or the number one pick. You might have some of these other quarterbacks like Nusmeire. I was hearing, oh, Nusmire, Nusmeer, he’s going to be number one overall. I’m barely hearing Nusmeer’s name. So, talking about like Mendoza, the red shirt Jr. had protocol uh prototypical size that the position is built similar to May. Uh though Mendoza isn’t as athletic, one executive said Mendoza possesses his reads at a higher rate now than May did at his uh at this time in the final season at North Carolina. Mendoza is a pocket passer who will run if necessary. He is tough. He scrambles more during his time at Cal because he was forced to really drive the offense. Still, Mendoza has been more comfortable controlling the game from the pocket uh with a with a better supporting cast and system at in Indiana. He has a good accuracy, delivers a clean uh catchable ball, and he has above average arm strength, which is important, especially now in today’s NFL. Executives like his decision-making and ball security. Both traits have drastically improved this season. Mendoza also uh led a le a game uh winning drive uh the last week against Penn State. Obviously this is the 14th which helps his cause. Um so he he’s probably going to be the fourth Fernando Mendoza is going to be the first quarterback taken. It just depends when is he going to go to the Jets? Is he going to go to the Browns? Is he going to go to the Saints? You know who’s going to trade up with the Giants because the Giants might get that second overall pick or you know what is Tennessee going to do? Is Tennessee going to sit Pat and take the best player? Who who is that? But, you know, that’s really the interesting part. Um, Ty Simpson, from what I’m hearing, uh, Simpson throws a great ball. The evaluators agree he has advanced poise and pocket for a first time starter. The red shirt junior pres, uh, pro processes quickly and gets the ball out on time with accuracy. Other evaluators said Simpson uh, simply plays under control and has good command on the field. Simpson lacks uh lack of starts is a concern and there’s no question he benefited from uh from returning to school to gain more experience. He doesn’t wow teams with his traits, but the film has been the strength of his resume. One evalu compared Simpson or Brock Party or M. Jones. Good players who get the ball where they need to. So Ty Simpson, who again is a what uh what do they say? A red shirt junior. He could go back if he wants to. Now, Dante Moore is a guy I’m starting to like more and more, no pun intended, the more I watch him. 6’3″, 206 pounds has certainly improved, but one executive said return to school could put him on a Jaden Daniel style trajectory as someone who whose stock could skyrocket if he starts to play a cleaner game. There’s a lot of optimisms that more will reach his potential, but the consensus is that another season in college would be better for his development than trying to refine some fundamental struggles in the NFL. I know some people question his um durability, but from what I heard, he had like a broken nose and he’s been playing with it for like a couple weeks now. So, Sellers, who is 6’3″ uh 240 lbs, uh Sellers just hasn’t played well enough, and teams are hoping that the 20-year-old will return to school. He played well in the second half of the 2024 season, but South Carolina doesn’t have enough help around him, particularly on the offensive line, uh taking on too much of the burden. Sellers hasn’t had the chance to make the jump that many people hoped. So, he probably he will probably go back. So again, this draft is not the draft to grab a quarterback. And um that seems to be the consensus of a lot of fans that want to tank like lose and then get the top two picks or the top three picks and take the best quarterback, whether it’s Mendoza, blah blah blah. Um but this doesn’t seem that that draft. Like this might be the draft where again you get your GM. I don’t know who’s it going to be. Is it Kelly? Is it McDaniel? Honestly, right now, me sitting here, I can’t give you a definite, oh, they’re both going to be gone and we’re going to get so and so and so and so until Mike McDaniel’s fired on Black Monday. Um, we will see what happens on that day. Um, but what I see 2026 as build the foundation, get your quarterback in 2027. Uh, they might stick with Tua, they might not stick with Tua. again, just because of his contract, there might be teams out there who who will, hey, if you pay, you know, if you knock off his cap hit, da da da the, you know, move money around, we’ll give you a sixth if you can take on this or make it a signing bonus and you whatever, you know, you can move money around. We talked about on the collective. Um, and then you go out as the Dolphins and get a Garner Mchu, get one of these uh players that could bridge the gap and build a foundation in 2026 and then 2027 you get your quarterback, whether it is Dante Moore, whether it is whoever is coming out in that draft that might be the better quarterback than you’re seeing right now. So again, me, what I’m doing for the next six games is I’m sitting back. I’m enjoying Miami Dolphins football because again, we got six weeks left and then we’re back to Okay, season starts in however many months. So, I’m gonna enjoy it. I’m gonna evaluate what I’m seeing. I’m going to, you know, is Mike getting better? Is Mike still doing the same mistakes? yada yada blah blah blah. That’s what I’m doing for the next six games. But from what I’m hearing, 2026 is not the year to tank. And 2026 really isn’t the year to go grab yourself a quarterback. So, I will do my prospects on the quarterbacks cuz maybe the Dolphins take one in the second, maybe they take one in the third. I will do my prospects on that. But, I’m going to look at probably offensive line tackles because what’s going on with Austin Jackson? Uh, defensive pass rushers because what’s going on with Bradley Chub? Corners, we don’t have any corners. Safety is MA coming back. Um, a lot of situations, a lot of plays. So, comment below. Let me know what your thoughts are. Do you agree this isn’t the year to take a quarterback? Um, or do you think, hey, do what you can to get Mendoza. Ty Simpson is a good player. If he’s there when we pick at, like, say we pick at 11, take them. Comment below. I’m very interested to see what you guys have to say. I’ll see you tomorrow with my picks. And again, I will tell you who to root for and who to root against. But like usual, stay classy. Defense up.

I just want a top pick, we need impact players. Also if you get a high pick you can also flip that pick if it's nothing you like there.
Fans who want to suck for a better qb is stupid. The last top 5 qb who is considered elite is burrow or daniels and they dont play right now. Mayfield is probably the best in the last 8 years and it took him a long time to become what he is. Sucking for a better qb is so dumb. The best qb's in the league weren't drafted in the top 5
Anyone wanting the Dolphins to loose should go back to NY. I don’t care how bad the team is, where we stand in the draft, win the games.
Must be time for me to quit watching football. Fans today really suck
If you root for losses, you’re a loser. Losing breeds losing. Never, never, never accept losing. This team is young, why anyone would root for losses is just crazy to me. Pick the right players no matter where you pick. That’s the answer.
Arch will be there next year. He'll have two full college seasons. Hopefully, next year his OL will block and the receivers won't drop so many passes.
Michigan wanted Ewers. The best player in the draft is Caleb Downs.
This is a bad take. I disagree on tanking on anyone. SMH
I think continue to build the trenches in 2026 and get the QB in 2027. There will be many more options then.
Finally got rid of a major problem in Grier, now have to get rid of another in Tua
Definitely!
To put Lagway on the main pic is utterly stupid. Worst QB ever.
would like to see the Dolphins draft OL, Safety, CB wait until 27 to draft a QB. I think they can still invest in developing Quinn Ewers as a backup
Miami Dolphins #1
Make sure you checkout Iowa's quarterback he won 2 national championship in division 2 this is his last year 1st time in the Big 10 good arm runs really well improves each week comes from behind several times this season would be a steal in the 3rd round
Even if we don't take a QB, we can always trade the pick for a 2027 first-round pick, or use it to fill major holes in the Offensive Line and Edge Rushers (assuming Chubb is traded or released), not to mention Cornerback or Safety. We have been mediocre for decades, picking in the middle of each round, and what has it gotten us? We have seen what Mike McDaniel can do with these guys, be mediocre!!!! He had these guys all year, and we are 4-7, so what exactly are you waiting to see? We have beaten one good team (Bills), and it was more them losing THAN us winning!
wait a year, have a full offensive line for a solid rookie, doesn't need to be the best, will also give Tua or Quinn a chance to play with a good O Line. what a novel concept. If we had Patrick Paul, ?, Brewer, Jonah, ? with Bronskill and Waller that would be a solid foundation assuming the 2 ? are 1st or 2nd round rookies without injury histories that grade out well. 1st round tackle, 2nd round left guard is my preference.
What they should do is evaluate the other two QBs on the roster to see if there is any reason to keep them or get a workable backup in the draft or free agency! We are stuck with Tua for another season, so build the team around the QB position, and we live through another lost season in 2026, but at least we will have the pieces in place for 2027 to be a solid year with a chance to make a serious run at the playoffs.
Build the trenches in the 2026 draft. Make Tua a poste June 1st cut in 2026. Let Ewers start backed up by the QB you take on day 3 in 2026. Prepare to draft a QB in 2027.
sorry for the long comment lol
shoot if this upcoming draft is not the one to get a top tier style rookie QB, it doesnt matter if we make it to playoffs or loss out trade that first higher rd pick to get more picks in the later rds and now we build our team most to least important: trenches OL, DBs, TE, WR or RB. then the following yr where we can move from tua without any major penalty or keep tua on a team friendly deal to let the future rookie dev for his first half of the rookie season.
Side Note, do you think these NIL deals will have deeper effects into the draft for the upcoming yrs (guessing 5). if QBs and other top skill positions see the pay will be less and their less likely to start a game would more of them start staying in college more making future draft slim picking or more aged rookies. i see either NIL will have to lower yrs eligible or NFL will have to raise rookie pay.
I'll be at the game Sunday
Sorsby, Green, and mavaia are good Qbs to take in the 2nd-3rd round.
New Orleans definitely going to give Tyler another chance next season because of that guaranteed contract
We should go out and get DeShaun Watson and get Bain in the draft 🐬🐬🐬
We shouldn't ever try to tank it's illegal. The worse teams are entitled to the better draft picks.
Never, ever go that route…losing becomes a habit and makes it so no one draft pick is worth it.
So Dougie who do you think the dolphins need in this upcoming draft if not a quarterback do they need an offensive lineman or defensive lineman
Build the trenches. Build for Tua for a year, getting him a lot of young lineman. Turn his ass into an expensive bridge piece until the 2027 draft for a better QB.
Tua showed his hand when he chose money over legacy with the 50m a year contract.
This draft class is more for your special positions
I think we need to look at a possible two or three in the wr room with the curtain look of are wr room. Looks great now but with a major injury to tyreek i feel its time to realy look at wr
You play the game to win
Im a Dolphins fan. Not a TANKING FANS
You can ALWAYS TRADE UP
I think intelligence is the most underrated trait for a QB and Mendoza has that in bunches. If he’s available when we pick I’d take him. And I wouldn’t wait 7 years for him to develop like the last two duds.
People whose job involves being listened to by fans, and are evaluated by “fan engagement,” are the only ones who will ever advocate “tanking.”
“Oh we aren’t winning, so let’s intentionally lose so we can maybe get better!” That’s the attitude of a loser who doesn’t compete. I don’t listen to those people when it comes to building a competitive team, especially in football.
Shame on Dougie for posting such a click bait title too.
No, in the absence of game changing talent, a season derailed by injuries and trades of the top paid “superstars,” you don’t tell the team to give up nor go go into next season thinking “let’s be the absolute worst team next year.” Tf is that!? No, you look at guys like Jordyn Brooks and Aaron Brewer who are giving everything in spite of the shit around then and losing records, guys who want to be on a winning team, and here’s the part that dolphins fans and managers haven’t figured out: if you want a winning culture, sign and retain guys who want to win. Not the superstars who already have a ring and are just chasing the biggest paychecks until they retire. Find the guys who don’t tolerate the slackers and make them captains. Build the team around toughness over talent.
Tua needs to take the helocopter tour that Kobe took.
Get a RT in round 1
The Miami Dolphins should NEVER TANK AGAIN !!! The Dolphins have their HC McDaniel and QB1 Tua ( who hasn't hit his ceiling by a long shot. We haven't seen his ceiling yet because the oline isn't even close to AVERAGE OR BETTER YET !!! Mahomes, Lamar Jackson, Josh Allen all have had a consistency of having an AVERAGE or BETTER OLINE and TUA HAS NEVER HAD THAT IN TUA's 6 SEASONS !!! But this season THE RBs this season has been their BEST LEFTSIDE OF THE OLINE but the RIGHTSIDE HAS BEEN TERRIBLE !!! OLINEMEN IS WHO THE DOLPHINS NEED TO CONTINUE TO BRING TO THE TEAM NEED SOLID BACK UP's as well !!!
Doug you should model your show like Kyle Crabs. Address the Elephant in the room, less stats!
To paraphrase the most famous "mid/meh" HC in recent memory (Jeff Fisher)…"I'm not f*cking going 7-9…or 8-8…or 9-7…or 10-6."
It seems like you and others are the arch-enemy of that sentiment. You soulnd like you are so used to hopefully making the Wildcard (to lose) that your baseline begins in the negative numbers.
Tua is not the answer, neither isMcDaniel. May as well get better picks.
2026 qb class looks bad because the top projected guys have regressed/got injured lsu qb, penn state qb & sellers were likely the top 3 guys before the year
