The NBA has a New York Knicks PROBLEM…
The New York Knicks may be the hottest team in basketball right now because with a completely revamped roster from last year, yes, they bring back the same core, but with a brand new bench essentially, sometimes it’s hard to take hit the ground running. Uh they started the year two and three. Since then, they’re 10 and three and figuring things out with a top 10 offense and defense, and that would be the Mike Brown effect. centered around Jaylen Brunson. This offense is both better in offensive rating and points per game than last year. And like I said, Brunson may be having his best year with this new offense kind of revamped around him, but he’s not having to play ISO as much with Mike Brown, who Darren Fox had his best years with. Jaylen Brunson is now having, like I said, one of the best years of his career. Here he is coming off this little zoom screen action. And I really like this because it puts the ball in his hand getting downhill and he gets to make the read. But Bridges is going to clear everybody out, leaving Gershon Yiselli wide open. And Jaylen Brunson makes the easy read. He’s also still got that ISO ability, being able to take people off the bounce and get his own buckets. Whereas, like I said, he’s not operating as much out of the ISO. When he gets the ball and goes one-on-one, he can still take pretty much anybody to town. Gary Harris, it doesn’t matter. He dropped 37 on the Bucks last night with five rebounds, an assist, and a steal in 39 minutes while shooting 12 of 21 from the field and four of six from beyond the ark. He had maybe his best game of the season in the NBA Cup, which is pretty successful this year. I mean, a lot of teams are trying their hardest to win this. And efficiencies off the charts this year for Brunson. Scoring, like I said, 29 a game with 6.2 assists, 3.2 2 rebounds,8 steals in 34 minutes, shooting 49% from the field, 38% from three on about eight attempts per game. And then watch this right here. Another really nice set for Brunson going downhill now against Giannis and he just stops and pops right in his face. He’s getting 3.5 ISO possessions per game and he’s averaging about four points per game in the isolation. He’s also sixth in scoring in the entire league. And I really like this as well from Mike Brown. Although this could have been completely improv here where they throw it ahead and now Brunson gets to choose which way he wants the ball. Mitchell Robinson feeds it to him heading right downhill to the rim and then coming off the screen here from Josh Hart for the easy left-handed floater. This was a clutch bucket too. Minute 32 up by four. Need one. Of course you’re going to the captain Jaylen Brunson, Mr. New York City. Then of course you can’t talk about the Knicks without Carl Towns. Even though he didn’t have the best night last night, the Towns Brunson duo has been much better than anticipated I think from pretty much everybody in the league. They there were high expectations, but I mean they went to the Eastern Conference Finals year one. And this is a pass right here, a play made by a cat that really you only see from one other guy in the league, and that’s Joic driving right. The double comes. Josh Hart makes a great cut and he finds him right under the rim for the layup. Like I said, he didn’t play great last night. nine points, 10 rebounds, four assists, and a steal. Never really got going. Was two of eight from the field. And maybe Miles Turner had a little something to do with that, but overall on the season, he’s having a really good year. Double comes, he finds MCL Bridges. Could have been a charge. Definitely could have been a charge, but he find makes the right play and they get a three. averaging about 22 and 12, which are very similar numbers to a guy like Anthony Davis, by the way, shooting 44% from the field, 33% from three, which is a little bit concerning, but over the last two years, he’s shooting 41% from three on five attempts a game. Not worried about it really at all. Then you have Josh Hart, the ultimate glue guy, if you will, for this New York Knicks team. always making the right reads either defensively, offensively, really wherever you need him to make a play, he can go out and do it. Great cut here. We looked at this earlier. Cat finds him for the and one. He finished with 19 points, 15 rebounds, seven assists, three steals in 40 minutes, shooting five of 12 from the field. Did not make a three, but he is having a much better year from three this year. And getting out in transition, running. This is where he’s most dangerous right here late in the game making a read. It’s a two-point game. Where do they go? They go to the short roll with Josh Hart where he’s attacking a four on three getting downhill. He’s got shooters in the corners and he’s got the lob the cat. He finds Deuce McBride who knocks down the huge three. On the year he’s averaging 11 a game with 7.5 rebounds, five assists, and a steal in 28 minutes, shooting 48% from the field and 36% from three. Like I said, having one of his better years from three, using the pump fake to his advantage to get downhill. Now, if you’ve made it this far in the video, hit that like button, hit that subscribe button. As you can see here, 93% of the people that watch these videos are not subscribed. If that’s you, let’s go ahead and fix that. And then let’s continue looking at the starters. The same group that they’ve had from last year with MCL Bridges and without OG Anobi, he’s been playing some really good basketball. Last night wasn’t his best game, but on the year he’s having a really nice season right here. They throw it ahead out of the double when Rollins comes to double Brunson. They get it to Bridges. Shot fake downhill. Easy floater. Gets it to go at the end of the first half. Finished with 14 points, four rebounds, two assists, two steals in 34 minutes on six of 12 shooting from the field. Two of five from beyond the ark. He’s in that category of like superstar role players where he’s obviously much better than a role player, but he’s so good at what he does. Like right here, he notices that Jaylen Brunson is being faceguarded. So now it’s a four on four. He’s already got the edge on Gary Trent Jr. as he gets him on his hip, just stops and pops in the mid-range and gets an easy bucket because playing four on four is so much easier than playing five on five. 16.6 points a game, 4.6 rebounds, 4.4 assists, shooting 52% from the field, and 41% from three on five attempts. Maybe one of his best years in the league, especially, like I said, in that superstar role player category. Now, as for OG, who we mentioned has been out for a little while. He’s out for at least two more weeks with a hamstring before he gets re-evaluated. Hammies can be tricky, so hopefully he can come back sooner rather than later, but he’s averaging 16 a game with six rebounds, two assists, two steals, shooting 48% from the field and 39% from three on six and a half attempts a game. The best three-point percentage of his career, by the way. Both him and Bridges being extremely efficient from beyond the ark. And that’s really the theme with this entire Knicks team. Once OG comes back, everybody’s going to be efficient because looking at the bench, which was the issue last year and is now a relative strength with a guy like Deuce McBride, who this could be the breakout season for Deuce McBride because he’s averaging 11.2 2 points a game, two and a half boards and assist in 26 minutes while shooting 43% from the field and 43% from beyond the arc as well on six attempts per game. He’s been an absolute sniper so far this year. By far the best three-point percentage of his career. And right here, like we said, the big shot late to push it to a five-point game in this group stage game. Now, as for Mitchell Robinson, he might not have the greatest stats ever, but you can play him with Carl Towns, which Mike Brown has experimented with some. You can play him play him one at a time with Robinson coming in in relief for Carl Towns. But, I mean, he averaged four points a game, eight rebounds, 1.8 stocks, and an assist in just 18 minutes per game so far this year. He’s shooting 69% from the field as well. He’s having a great backup bigs. And that’s something that’s very important and very overlooked is having a good backup center, but I mean with his passing, he can also play with Carl Towns and the starting group just depending on the matchup, especially come playoff time. And that’s so important. Jordan Clarkson was just the perfect guy to add here. Just an automatic 10 to 15 points a game off the bench. It feels like 10 and a half points a night, two boards, 1.7 assists,.3 steals in 19 minutes per, shooting 46% from the field. The three-point efficiency is a little bit concerning, but I’m not too worried about it. It’s still kind of early in the season. Still plenty of time for him to bounce back from beyond the arc. And then you also have Gershan Yabusle, who hasn’t really been getting too much PT with OG out now. He is 34% from the field, 28% from three. Not fantastic. Um, Tyler Kolic is also getting some burn here. He’s played 14 games so far this year. They seem to be playing him over uh back on the day. And then Landry Shamat has also been out, but he’s been good when he’s been in the rotation. With that being said, that’s going to be it for today’s video. Thanks so much for watching.
