Oilers News | Tristan Jarry Insider Trade Speculation | Goalie Discussion
Welcome back everyone. My name is Patrick. You’re watching the Oilers rundown. Rundown. Well, yeah, that’s pretty much what happened to the Edmonton Oilers last night. An absolute butt kicking at the hands of the Dallas Stars. An 8-3 loss and sadly only their second worst loss of the year behind the 9 to1 loss to the Colorado Avalanche. just completely unacceptable. As I noted in detail in my video last night, the Edmonton Oilers have the next three days off here. Well, I guess two days after today before they take on the Seattle Kraken on Saturday at 2 p.m. And speculation is running wild here in Edmonton. We had the Jordan Bennington speculation yesterday. And today, insider Kevin Weekes has put out that the Edmonton Oilers are connected to Pittsburgh Penguins goalender Tristan Jarry. Kevin had the following to say, “I’m told two-time NHL All-Star and Penguins goalie Tristan Jarry is among the goalies drawing significant interest as a potential option for the Edmonton Oilers. Keep in mind he played in Edmonton already in the WHL with the Oil Kings and was also a former student of now ex Oilers goalie coach Dustin Schwarz. So Tristan Jarry certainly has his connections to Edmonton. He’s been rumored to be coming to the Edmonton Oilers multiple times over the past few years. So not surprised at all to see this one come up. Jar is 5211 with a 2.6. 60 goals against average, a 911 save percentage, and a.70 goals saved above expected per 60. So yes, Tristan Jury this particular season would be a definite upgrade on what the Edmonton Oilers have, but we also have to keep in mind this is a guy that’s been sent to the AHL very recently. A lot of goalies can put together a bit of a hot streak here. Apparently, he was injured. the Pittsburgh Penguins just activating him from injured reserve today. So, there’s a lot of factors rolling in here. Tristan Jury, as I mentioned off the top, does have the Edmonton connection with the Edmonton Oil Kings. So, there’s that. I’m sure he’d probably Well, you would think he’d welcome a change to the Edmonton Oilers anyway. Tristan Jarry is currently in year three of a five-year deal that he signed with the Pittsburgh Penguins with a 5.375 million cap hit. So, this obviously will not be a contract that’s easy for the Edmonton Oilers to take on. Things will have to be going out the door here. There was rumors even just this past summer connecting Tristan Jarry to the Edmonton Oilers when it was reported that the Edmonton Oilers were probably going to bring in a new goalender end up bringing back Stewart Skinner and Calvin Pickard. They do trade for and acquire Connor Ingram but ultimately no big change for the Edmonton Oilers and goal. So Tristan Jarry would be another potential option here. Jordan Biddington, as I said, another name that’s out there, but Kevin Weekes noting in his report that this isn’t definitive. The Evston Oilers are looking at multiple different options. I think guys like Elvis Mers Lincoln, Devin Levi, Ukah, Pekka Lucin with the Buffalo Sabres. There’s multiple options out there, but the Penguins are looking to move on from a goalender. So certainly an option that we could see Tristan Jarry become an Edmonton Oiler. In that case, I’d prefer to still have Steuart Skinner, but I don’t know how the Oilers would make the money work with both Jarry and Skinner on the books. So, Skinner probably would have to go, but at the same time, the Penguins are looking to shed goalies, not bring another goalender in. So, maybe a third team needs to be involved. It’s probably a better situation for the Oilers if they can find a way to keep Skinner and have a stronger tandem overall. But, there’s also Connor Ingram waiting in the wings. So, there’s so many different ways this could go right now, guys. Tristan Jarry, Jordan Bennington, just two possible options here. If things really look like they’re intensifying here, I’ll do a bit more indepth look at the targets that the Edmonton Oilers could go after. But right now, I think it’s just insiders putting names out there that make sense here. We know the Oilers are scouring right now. An 8-3 loss to the Dallas Stars last night definitely would have intensified things, but at the same time, if the Oilers can string a couple wins together, maybe things go quiet once again. So, like I said, so many different options on the table right now, but keep an eye on Jordan Bennington with the St. Louis Blues. Keep an eye on Tristan Jarry with the Pittsburgh Penguins, Elvis Mers Lincoln with the Columbus Blue Jackets, Devin Levi, Ukapolucin with the Buffalo Sabres. There’s lots of names out there. The Edmonton Oilers are clearly looking and we’ll see if the trigger gets pulled on any kind of deal anytime soon. If the bad play continues for the Edmonton Oilers, it’s definitely going to happen sooner rather than later. And the Oilers do have a 3-day break here. I was mentioning in my video last night, I’m not expecting anything, but who knows, with some time off here, maybe the Oilers do intensify their search and close a deal. But if they do, we’re probably not going to like what’s going out the door the other way. So, let’s see what happens here, guys. I’ll keep you up to date on all the latest, but for today, it’s Tristan Jarry as the latest possible target for the Edmonton Oilers. Let me know your thoughts on picking up either Jordan Bennington or Tristan Jarry. Is there a goalie out there that the Oilers could realistically acquire that you would prefer? While a goalie is certainly important it's also the guys playing in front of them. If the team doesn't get it's defense going (and I'm not just talking about the D I'm talking about ALL of the guys skating) it would expose ANY goalie. D wins playoffs and cups. It's been that way for a long time. Yes, you still have to score but scoring 5 when you give up 6 isn't helpful. Just the thoughts of a disappointed fan.
Just remember like Mc David said the goalies can only be as good as the guys out front of him, but….. if we let Skinner go then I for Binnington
I'm not a fan of acquiring Jarry. I'd prefer them bringing in an experienced defensive specialist as an associate coach. They lost a ton of experience when Gulutzen and Coffey left.
Put Bowman in goal Things weren't this bad when Ken Holland was GM. Things wouldn't be like this if Holland was still here. As for a goalie change how about Lindgren with Washington? If my memory is correct he was pretty good last year. Of course, they now have Logan Thompson, although I think he's injured. Cap hit pretty much equal between Lindgren and Skinner. I think Skinner needs a change of scenery. Maybe all the pressure is getting to him. I think he's a better goalie than he's shown. Team defense in front of him is terrible too which doesn't help. No matter who plays goal team defense needs to improve drastically or the Oilers will risk missing the playoffs. The Dallas game not an outlier.
Jarry is coming if a crap year as well. Won’t be any better
Jarry, Karlson and Crosby for Mangipaine, Frederic, Kulak, and Pickard
Wouldn't it be sweet if we could land a goalie higher in the draft..like say around the 20th pick? Man if that ever happened I bet we wouldn't drop the ball on tjat. No, not this organization. Ahem. Jesper Wallstedt. Amd imagine Jason Roberts was ahead of Bourgat in that same draft. And if only we had a high 1st round d man fall on our laps at number at say like number 8!!!
Our goalies arent the best but how about some defence. They only ever talk about trading goalies but never the over priced defence. You would think that the D would play according to our goaltenders abilities.
Oilers got run out of their home bldg.
Stu again and again proves to me that he is NOT a NHL goalie, but still, ppl believe in him. Weird…
Remove the 2 Goalies but you need to trade McDavid as well, stop holding him back, he will not give a lame city 100% I am telling you, no matter what he says you can tell by his playing.. I guess obvious is not obvious anymore, you need it to be smashed into your small pea brain heads. Edmonton is $hit city and always will be.
Trade Bouchard for a pylon
why you all so down on jarry ?
career .910 save percentage goalie, this season .914 and a two time nhl all star
What's the point of getting a new goalie and ruining his confidence when the defence in front of him, well, the whole team, are giving up so many grade A chances. I like the idea but we're hanging them out to dry.
Stop blaming one person… There is no "I" in TEAM… Place blame where it belongs… From the top down. Owners, coaches, players and goalies… This type of tragedy isn't the fault of one goalie. It's everyone in the entire team.
Speculation says the Oilers need two really great goalies, not one. So even if they get Tristan Jarry, that still leaves one spot vacant. Think about it. If your number one goalie gets injured, who gets the nod?
I’d prefer one of the BUF tenders, like UPL or Levi, and I would revisit Saros given how poorly it’s going in NSH now.
Like many comments here , no team defense or effort will not help any goalie . Thanks for the update
think what the oil really need is someone to hold them accountable. last year, there was probably coffey and perry. but now who? its not mcd. not in his dna. and maybe same for knob. think it might have to be drai – he can get pissy. i think he needs to turn the pissy-meter to full and tear into teammates that do dumb things on the ice. like perry ripped into kane. if i am bowman, i have a meeting with drai
The defence is also the issue here and will be until Nurse and his 2x overpay is gone.
In a functional team everyone has to do his best in match! This is a fact. Responsible for this is the staff, only the staff! Staff is the point. Knoblauch isn't cool enough to stay to his lines, acts silly when we are back! Coffee has to be back soon for the defense, also fact! To all the ones who take care for Stu, we play professional hockey in the best league of the world, we lost 2 finals with him as No.1, we did have each year s bad start with him, so what??!!! We had the chance for Sway man, didn't take, big mistake. The contract for Bouch, I don't know, what I know is, that his shit performance made Ekholm play bad too! And there is no change seen the last games, he played childish and without body aggresivity. Trade him. Hopefully for Seider. Yes, I say it every time but for me it is the only solution to make this team going… .
Doesn’t matter who is in goal. If there is no defence in front it’s just a shooting gallery, like what happened recently (twice)
When Jarry was sent to the AHL he had better numbers than Skinner. lol. Jarry’s career numbers significantly superior to Skinner
The Oilers Goalies are taking all the criticism while Bouchard and Nurse combining for over 18 million in cap space are giving up so many high danger opportunities and can't clear the zone effectively or back check or getting the open man. It's an absolute circus. Having said that Binnington is playing worse than Skinner. He's having a horrendous year. He never plays well during the regular season. He plays well in tournaments and the playoffs. But during the season he's not very good. Jarry just came back from an injury and has had a bounceback season but was playing so poorly just a year ago they were considering buying out his contract. Fix The D and The G will fix itsrlf
Why just about everyone would rather Binnington is beyond me. Jarry is the better goalie of the two, having a good bounceback season and a cheaper cap hit
Any goalie is going to need a team in front of them.
I don’t care if this guy lived in Edmonton, played for Edmonton, made porridge in Edmonton, mowed lawns for the elderly in Edmonton, this is not an upgrade and this would just be a Band-Aid. This guy couldn’t even keep a starting spot for his own team last year. This management will never learn.. Always going after bottom feeders
Jarry is worse than Skinner, more expensive, and injury prone. Id rather keep Stu
The Oilers do need a new goalie, but it's also true the defensemen need a good kick in the ass. The defensive coverage is terrible. This is not a new problem. This has been going on for years which makes me think management is dropping the ball bigtime. Edmonton needs a big shakeup.
Can he maintain those numbers playing behind the Oilers defence.
There has to be retention for sure if you’d want to keep both Skinner and Jarry.
Bring dustin swartz back he is a great coach.its difficult as a coach if you working with a pylon.the oilers management is to blame they had carter hart.they talked about skinner loosing weight and other bs.bowman and jackshit should be shown the door garbage bunch
