Sam Darnold: “This Will Be A Great Challenge For Us” | Seattle Seahawks

Yeah. Um yeah, excited excited for this one. Um you know, just obviously a really great challenge for us going up against Flo and his defense and all the different um you know um different problems that that he can create for an offense. Um obviously great scheme like I said, but also really really good players. Um and you know their team, their whole team. I know KO’s got those guys rolling over there. So um we’re excited about it. Excited for this challenge. The amount you practiced defense help you? Um, yeah, I think I think just any experience that you have um, you know, against any defense can help you a ton. Um, so, you know, I’m just going to continue to to study the way that I’ve been studying. Um, you know, understanding what they’ve been doing this year. Um, you know, and and kind of go about it that way. What’s your year in Minnesota you? Yeah, you know, I’m very uh very grateful um you know, for the time that I spent there, all the people that, you know, I created relationships with, all the people in that locker room, all the coaches there, the people in that building um you know, but I am I am very excited um to to be here um and to continue continue doing what we’re doing this year. Whether it was in the locker room on the field, where do you feel like you grew and improved during that year? Yeah, I think I improved in a, you know, a lot of facets of my life, not only on the field, off the field as well, like you mentioned. Um, but yeah, I think just continuing to learn football, you know, from great coaches over there and and being around some really good players as well. Was it a viable option to return to Minnesota or was that never? Yeah, I think for me it was um you know just understanding kind of um you know what was um you know what was being talked about just in terms of you know um behind closed doors with you know um you know the people over there and and my people. Um but at the end of the day, you know, I made um the decision to come here and I’m very very happy um about that decision and excited to, you know, continue to work the way that we’ve been working here and and continue to build the relationships in that locker room and and with the coaching staff here. They blitz more than any other team like almost 60% of the time lately. What’s it like as a quarterback? You know, there’s there’s opportunities and risks. How how do you kind of approach a team that’s heavy? Yeah, I think you know, you got to have answers. Um, so it’s, uh, you know, it’s up to us as players and, you know, our coaching staff as well to just be able to, you know, have a have a good plan going into the game and for us as players to be able to go execute that plan. You played with Cam Acres a little bit. What What kind of player and person is he? Yeah, Cam’s awesome. Um, you know, we were actually just talking on the field today just um that clutch play that he made last year against Green Bay. um just that little roll pass that we made and I kind of underthrew it and he made an unbelievable catch coming back to the ball and then we could kneel it out in in a victory formation. So um you know had a great had a great time with Cam when he was in Minnesota with us and I’m happy to have him here now. Sam, were there things you learned throwing to Justin Jefferson last year that have helped you create the success you’ve had with Jackson Smith and Jacob? Yeah, for sure. Um, you know, I think sometimes it’s I think uh you know, coach Sabin might have said this at some point, but players over plays at some at some point. You know what I mean? Like sometimes um you know, the coaches work so hard to drop certain plays, but um at the end of the day, sometimes you just got to give your guy a chance and he can go make you look good as a quarterback and you know, I learned that last year with Justin and this year as well with Jackson. Those are two different chances though when you take a look at like body types and skill sets, right? Like you have to each guy and what that chance looks like, right? Yeah, I think uh Yeah, for sure. I think both have really good body control. Um that helps a lot in the situation and um you know, in certain situations, they’re they’re not going to let the defense come away with the football. I think that’s the biggest thing. Um they’re very competitive. Um when you when you you know have to throw it up to them in a certain situation, let’s say it’s fourth and goal game on the line and you got to throw it up like um you know, if they want a triple cover jacks, then yeah, we might, you know, think about someone else. But, um, he is such a good such a good player. Um, and so is Justin in those situations when, you know, when that competitiveness is at an all-time high. Are you touching back there? Um, a couple guys, but it’s tough. It’s tough during the season. you alluded to like some conversations and stuff in the question about whether viable to return there. Do you think too much was made or your last two games were like overly weighted there, you know, assessing your performance from last season? You know, I think, um, at the end of the day, we, you know, we went down that path and, you know, at the end of the day, I’m here. Um, you know, whatever people want to say about it, um, you know, it is what it is. I’m just very thankful to be here and be in this situation. Did you did the when the Seahawks were talking to you, did that come up or did like your last two games, did they overlook that? Did they not care? Like did that come? I don’t know. I’m I’m excited to be here though. Um very happy. Like I said, I’m grateful to be in this situation. Thanks. Thank you.

  1. Vikes fan.. Sam is about to tear us up. He’s the man. Good for you Seattle! Go get ‘em the rest of this year. Hope we get y’all on Sunday lol

  2. What do you do in your spare time for fun, Sam? SD – I continue to work, review the tape, make decisions for the game plan and gain experience so I can be the best version of the QB I want to be here in Seattle with Jaxon.
    Beep, boop, beep. Lol.

  3. This is the moment Sam can prove the Vi-Queens made the biggest mistake in the team's troubled history since trading for Hershel Walker in 1989.

  4. I wish I can show my comments history, I was hoping so bad they bring you back. Best QB Vikings had this century. We miss you Sam, clearly your response tells a lot without a lot of words on how Vikings management made a colossal flub not doing everything they can to bring you back. Now they are a joke dead last in NFL offenses 😂. And now they gave up Akers too, lmao

  5. KUBIAK…PLAYACTION, BOOTLGS ROLL SAM OUT WAY MORE, PASSES IN THE FLAT TO TJE TIGHTEND, RPO'S TO GET EARLY YARDAGE, STOP DOING A RUN 1ST FOR NO GAIN, 1ST PLAY, ROLL OUT PASS TO AJ BARNER IN TJE FLAT FOR 6 OR 7, , 2ND PLAY PULL AND RUN FOR 4 OR 5, KEEP THOSE STICKS MOVING👏👏👏, A 1ST PLAY RUN ALWAYS GAINS NOTHING, EASE UP THAT DEFENSE 1ST, , GET DOWN FIELD THEN INCORPORATE RUN GAME, TIRED OF SEEING 1ST RUN PLAYS GET 1 OR 2 YARDS, THEN WE GET BEHIND AND PUNT ON OUR 1ST POSSESSION, TAKE IT TO THEM EARLY, HAVE SAM USE HIS LEGS WAY MORE👏👏👏

  6. Despite Vikings record their defense is still really solid. Going to be a tough game offensively. Gotta go one play at a time Sam. Love, Goff, Williams, and Hurts have all struggled against this D. Show them your magic Sam!

  7. As a hawks fan, IM GLAD they asked him those question back to back. He needs to face it not run from it. Since those 2 games, hes managed to stay consistent in folding on big games that matter the most. 0-3 vs NFC playoff teams this year.

  8. Sam has some similar qualities as Geno and frankly, other QB's. They are great as long as they have time and down field weapons. Pressure them and they start throwing desperation pics. The choice making while under pressure often costs them the game by turning over the ball so much. What I'm hoping for here as that the O-line protects him and he gets a chance to learn to eat a sack.

  9. I understand media training is important – and Sam is so well trained… but these interviews are so stale for that reason. There is almost no signal in these interviews. Just canned responses to minimize liability. I understand the player incentive to respond like a robot. There is no upside in honesty. But… why do we even do it then? Everybody should just do something else with their time to be honest!
