It’s so silly that people will claim that Aho/Jarvis/Slavin aren’t good enough *because they aren’t famous*.
The canes have elite players, they just aren’t considered “superstars” because it’s a small market team. Last two times the Canes went after “superstars” they promptly left ASAP.
We need to fix our powerplay
I think everyone in the game thread knows how much I love Jarvy. He is a superstar. He’s OUR superstar. Yes, he’s not a McDavid, but he’s Seth, and he’s so damn special. This kid will absolutely get us a Stanley Cup. As a Carolina fan, I remember when Hansbrough committed, so many analysts said that even if he wasn’t the superstar that everyone in college basketball talked about, he was going to be the hardest worker in college basketball. What he lacked in skill, he would make up with his determination, want and hustle. He wasn’t going to let anyone outhustle him. Soon after he committed he said he wasn’t leaving Carolina until he won national championship. He finally won one his senior year. Apologies to the State and Duke fans on here, but I think Seth is kind of like Hansbrough. What he might lack in skill (he still has a lot of skill, we all know that) he makes up with his work ethic, determination, and love for the team and fans. I absolutely have no doubt that he’s going to help us win a Stanley Cup. It might not be this year (I think it might be if we can get healthy) but it will be soon.
Yes, the pp sucks and needs to be fixed, but our Disaster Bros also have a dreadful pp, and they are the darlings of the league right now. Personally, I would like to think we’re going to get healthy and it’s going to be a finals with our Disaster Bros, with our boys finally getting what they have worked so hard for!
Also, my apologies for the super long post.
Jarvy is an up and coming superstar. Did you see who he was featured with on Faceoff?
I would support trading for a *Superstar* but who would that be? The actual superstars like McDavid, Makar, etc aren’t available. At best we get a really good player, but at this point, I’m not sure that pushes the needle.
I’d rather keep the young pieces and roll with them the next 5 years
They did and it nearly blew up. What they really need is to fix that powerplay, cuz man…
Jarvy Aho and Slavin are elite players.. But let’s face it, fans / analysts are focused on goal scorers when they mention players. The last player on our team to score 40 goals was Eric Staal in 07-08.
Has anyone checked out penalty kill recently? Our whole special teams needs help
We got Brandon Bussi and you want more??
Canes have a surplus of guys I’d put on the “very good at hockey” tier, but really only Slavin that I’d put on the “elite at hockey” tier. That’s been their sauce though. Their depth gets them far.
Jarvis might be having a coming out party this year on pace for a 50 goal season. But still would need to back it up before I’d move him to the higher tier.
Honestly I’d rather have depth. Don’t know what it’s like this season as I haven’t looked at the stats but at one point last year the goals scored were spread over a crazy number of players.
Ah yes, teams with superstars like McDavid, Nylander, Matthews…oh wait./s
Lock in the power play, get all three goalies healthy, get the blue line healthy, and evaluate from there. I genuinely believe it’s more about fitting the pieces together that we have now instead of adding new ones. Tried that last year, and it worked out getting Janky and Stanky, but we also gave up Necas and Drury for them.
I wouldn’t mind them trying to bring in Stammer to try and fix the PP. his best years are behind him but he did have 14 ppg last year which is nothing to scoff at. He would have led the Canes last year. At the very least he creates the threat and can elevate the others for that reason. He also brings post season experience that can help down the stretch.
Not sure just how realistic this is, but Nashville is awful and the Canes give him another shot at a cup unless he just prefers his tax free checks at this point of his career.
I love the idea but Jarvy is not a superstar in the traditional sense. Superstars are those 100pt guys like Mackinnon, Mcdavid, Kucherov, and probably celebrini and bedard in the future. Rantanen was one, Guentzel wasn’t really he just scored tons of goals. To be called a superstar you need to have a 100pt season, it’s just how canadian media functions.
I don’t think jarvis will ever reach 100pts because he doesnt get enough assists. By his prime he’ll probably be scoring 40-45 goals a year but if you look at the stats 100pt guys usually get 60 assists at a minimum. Usually more like a 30g-70a split. That’s not really his game. And as unfortunate as it is he won’t be recognized as a “true superstar” unless he hits that arbitrary mark which doesn’t take in goal scoring or defensive play as part of what you’re counting. He’s gonna be closer to a 40 and 40 guy who is elite but some media idiot will “hesitate to call him a superstar” because of some bs about the system and his height.
