Those old nurk statlines were absurd

  1. Pre broken leg Nurkic was actually amazing. Once he broke his leg he became so much more passive around the rim.

  2. Pre-injury 2019 Nurkic was almost perfect. That 2018/19 season specifically he was our second best player – understood his role, brilliant rim protector despite his shorter wingspan, great chemistry with Lillard, and the duo were an exceptional PnR threat.

He was still a role player post-injury, but he clearly lost a step making him slower than he already was. It meant he wasn’t a good rim protector, and his “twinkle toes” footwork that made him such a threat in the paint was also gone.

We also wanted him to play man coverage instead of drop meaning he was expected to be a perimeter defender – which he never had the skill for to begin with. He had to change his offensive game to take more threes to be a threat since he didn’t have the same level of footwork in the paint anymore.

  3. I remember when he entered his final season in Denver as the potential franchise cornerstone player. Then it came down to Nurk Vs Jokic during the season and coach Malone picked Jokic (rightfully so) as he’d started his somewhat unexpected rise.

We ended up getting Nurk dirt cheap (compared to what he had been worth at the start of the season) and he and Dame immediately demonstrated their future chemistry.

It’s a damn shame that injury derailed his entire career. His footwork, IQ and team player mentality were the perfect fit for Dame.

  4. Controversial take maybe but Nurk was the best player Dame has played with besides Giannis. Better than LMA, taking into consideration everything on the floor. Pre leg break of course.

  5. Nurk fever was one of the best times of the Dame era. I rmb it felt like we had finally found the final piece to turn things around. Never stayed healthy tho😭

  6. Until Clingan arrived Nurk was my favorite Blazers center since idk..a healthy Oden? He wasnt great at any one thing but he was decent at everything, pre injury. A good all around player. That injury was so depressing. I still miss him. Would even take him as a backup. Hes a free agent at the end of the season, you never know. He still rebounds, passes, sets elite screens. I bet Dame would love it.

  7. I still think about that 5 x 5 Nurk had against the Kings, good times. Would of loved to seen how he could of potentially changed the series against Golden State in the WCF

  8. I remember when he got traded from Denver, There were a couple of games where Nurkic absolutely destroyed Jokic.
