DETROIT RED WINGS TRADE RUMORS: STEVE YZERMAN TARGETTING QUINN HUGHES

Yo, what is up everyone? Welcome back to this brand new episode of Hockey Time Rundown. You’re here with us, your beautiful host once again, Carlo and Zack. Buddy, welcome back on this beautiful Sunday where there’s not as much snow on the ground as we thought, but it’s still freezing outside. Yep. Yeah, we got lucky with that one. Dodged a bullet. I think it was too cold, but anyway, we’ll take it. Prolong the snow outside by me is a little slushy even though the wind is blowing at like 15 miles an hour. Feels like it’s -20 outside. Still slushy outside. Dogs loved it though. They had no complaints. Are you taking over for local 4? Probably not. Although being a meteorologist, that’s the one gig that you can keep and be consistently wrong all the time. My dad always That’s crazy. That’s wild. That’s wild. So, if you guys don’t see us coming out with a new episode, you know that uh we took over our new gigs as meteorologists where we can be wrong and not catch any heat, which is what a what a life. What a life that is. And with that being said, thanks for joining us on this brand new episode. Once again, if you are returning, if you are brand new, thanks for joining us. Carlo, it was a very, very rough week to be a Detroit Red Wings fan because the Red Wings went 0 and4. You went into overtime with Boston last night. You lost. They probably shouldn’t have even gotten a point out of that game. Period. They played a way better third period. I thought they deserved a point. Don’t know if they deserve the win considering they had a good period, which was the third, but I I did I was the first period I was pissed. Second period I was pissed. We’re going to get all we’re going to break this all down, but they did deserve one point in my opinion cuz they did play well in that third period. But we’ll catch your take on that one. Let’s get started. Let’s wind it back a little bit. Let’s talk about the good, the bad, the ugly. What are we kicking off with New Jersey? We’re going to kick it off with New Jersey. Where do Red Wings continuously put themselves in the position to come back from behind because team Omire enters the game scoring the first goal of the game followed up by Alex Abrink in the first period. Then it was just a domino effect from there. Carlo, the New Jersey Devils make it a three to1 game. You go into the second period. James Van Remdsteike uh gets a goal out there. I believe that was actually during his 11th00th game as well. Uh it might have been actually the next game because he did score in that one as well. But nonetheless, congrats to JBR on reaching that milestone. That’s actually huge. Not a lot of players actually make it to that or even a thousand, let alone that. For real. That was a nasty goal he scored too, man. That was a veteran goalc scoring goal in close. Tucks it top cheese. It was nice on the power play too. Assisted by Andrew Cop and EMTT Finny. And then Connor Brown gets it gets in another one that makes it 4 to2. Dylan Larkin comes up in the third to make it four to three. And then that’s game really. This is I would say Carlo this is probably it was one of the more exciting games of the season for the Detroit Red Wings. Even though they lost, it did look slightly that they were able to keep up with the pace of play with the New Jersey Devils. Both teams had, you know, they had Jack Hughes out with that weird knife injury. You had Simon Evansson out due to illness. You had to reinsert Travis Hamick into this game who ended up becoming a minus three. Just touching on it, what I noticed in this game is that two goals were deflected in. We’re going to talk about that as a common theme throughout this episode. and two of them came from being in the net front as well. Going into this game, both teams had a very similar uh record as well. I thought the Detroit Red Wings held their own. Simon Evansson clearly was a huge miss in this game and we’ll actually talk about that as well in the next game that we will be touching on. But some nitpicks here, Carlo, is that Hamick, I don’t know how much longer we can keep talking about this because he was responsible for two of the goals in this game. He gets one of them being that he went behind the net with our puck, gets poked pretty easily, and it allowed the New Jersey Devil player to just essentially do a wraparound goal and put it in. So that is a highlight that a lot of Red Wings fans, not in just this game, but the next game, I think it was more apparent that Travis Hamick should not be playing any more games moving forward. But go ahead and give your take on this game and what you noticed, what you liked and didn’t like about this game. Well, I thought the pace of play was good. I thought the scoring chances that we gave up were, you know, call them deflections or flukes, whatever you want to call them, but I feel like had had players been communicating or if certain players had their guy covered, we could have tied them up and we could have avoided some goals. That’s the common theme throughout this stretch of games this this past week. It’s just the defensive game. And I’m not talking just about defenseman, but overall the defensive game, the communication, the losing your guy in the defensive zone. It’s just so repetitive and it’s so consistent. It’s it’s getting very very tough to watch. And I think that really started against uh New Jersey. Well, I’m sure it’s kind of been all season, but it was really apparent against New Jersey. Listen, man. If Edmonson was was was clear to play, I’m not sure if Hamenik would have been in the lineup. The D is thin. like very thin right now and well they were when Edmonson was out and as a result of that Hamik had to play. Hamik’s slow man like he’s he’s one of those guys that he can be in the right first position but then getting into the second position after that first position sequence breaks out. You notice that he’s slow and he can’t get to point B as quickly that he should and a lot of that’s creating holes in the D which is then ending up in the back of our net. You know the first goal that Teimo Meyers scored in New Jersey and I’ll just use this as an example. You know Hamick got to the the first spot he was supposed to be at pinned the guy up against the boards. It gets rimmed around. Ben Sherro just goes on a wild loose goose chase and um and as a result of that chase, Casper didn’t pick up his guy and the guy got the deflected goal. Had Casper have picked up his guy, tied him up, that maybe maybe that goal doesn’t go in and this game goes into overtime 33, you know, and we get a point. So, it’s little stuff like that that I noticed. Um, I’m not going to go through it on every single goal because there’s going to be common themes throughout them all with what I just said, but that’s kind of what I’m noticing. Pace of play, I think, is I was okay during that game. You know, 35 shots on net, one for three on the power play. I think their power play needs to be better, man. I don’t know what’s going on there. We can touch on that one separately as well. But that’s really all I have for this game, man. I’m not going to go through and bate every single goal. But we know what the problems are. We just got to hope that they learn and figure it out because they got a six game, what is it, a six game road trip coming up after Tuesday, Tuesday night’s game at home against Boston, right? So, you know, they uh they got to figure it out. And I love the fact that their game is not until Tuesday. It’s Sunday today. I’m expecting I’m expecting a Todd Mlullen certified practice in between to really kind of work out some of these kinks. What were your thoughts on the postgame scrum that happened on New Jersey Devil’s side? The Red Wings obviously trying to tie the game and send it into overtime like you mentioned and you saw players like Dylan Lurin getting into it with Heir. We almost saw a captain on captain fight. You saw Alex Abrink kind of get tossed around there. He looked like he got cut and he had a bloody mouth there. And then even Lucas Raymond, he had a pretty rough game where I can’t remember which player it was. One Red Wings player did something to one of their players. Then Lucas Raymond got hit open ice for no reason for the retaliation of what the Red Wings did and then it kind of all unfolded there. Initially my thought on that scrum was, okay, it’s nice to see the Red Wings get involved doing this. One thing I will say to nitpick is that I don’t like that they’re doing it at the end of these games. We hardly even see them doing it in the middle of games. There definitely have been plenty of times where we see rookie players get hit. This team does absolutely nothing. But your thoughts and opinions on the postgame scrum? I mean, I I liked it just to, you know, I think a lot of it was, you know, emotionally charged just based off the scoreboard of the game and and typically when you’re when you’re emotionally charged up, you’re not really thinking straight. You know, I’ll use Ben Sherrod as an example. He gave somebody a good spear, man. Like that looked Yeah, he did. Dude, that looked like And he got fined. That was primal. Like that was like he was hunting for fish like 6,000 BC. Like that was nuts. And he did get fined. Yeah. like he put a lot into that one. But again, like a lot of this stuff’s emotionally charged based off the scoreboard and I don’t know, like it’s gonna happen. But the Wings don’t have fighters, man. You know, they have some of these guys. They got some players that really have a lot of that juice to that competitive juice that boils over to a certain point and then they start getting chippy, which is good. But you got to remember, man, you guys aren’t the biggest team in the league by any means. And like there’s going to be some bigger and better guys out there that are going to rock you, which we will get into as well later on. But I don’t know, do it. I mean, if it’s going to get you guys rallied up, go for it. At the end of the game when you kind of already lost, I don’t know what the point is of that. You’re just risking injury, which I think is stupid, but we do stupid things when we’re emotionally charged, right? So, yeah, that’s kind of my thought on that. Um, it’d be nice to see that maybe at the end of a period uh with a full period to play after to really kind of get fired up and and go out there swinging. But, uh, I don’t know. That’s that’s what I think. Yeah, quite surprised that. Well, what’s more surprising that it’s the core four going out there? So, like I mentioned, it was Larkin was out there, Raymond was out there, Cider was out there. I believe Alex de Brinkcat was obviously out there. Like I mentioned, he kind of got bloodied up and cut up a little bit, it looked like. Yep. What’s more surprising that it’s the core four going out there and doing this or the fact that we are doing this late in the game and then risking at those injuries like you just mentioned? I don’t know if there’s an answer to that one. I think there’s two. So, I’m going to go both. What about you? Both can be true at the same time. Correct. Yeah. I I think it’s kind of silly that the Red Wings are doing it. You know, like in the situation of the New York Rangers game, what happened with Jonathan Quick? Okay. Stuff like that. Yeah. Do it at the end of the game. Yeah. your imu your emotions got the best of you. That’s clearly what happened with the Detroit Red Wings in that scrum. And once again, we both agreed saying that it’s it’s a good look for the Red Wings to stand up for themselves. It needs to stop stop happening at the end of these games, though. Uh if we can see a little bit more of it in the middle of these games, yeah, one person just kind of shows up and and takes it on for the team, then we need to we need to implement that. But like you mentioned, this team is is on the smaller side. We don’t exactly have that type of player that a lot of these other teams have where they have that one specific player that can go out and do that. New Jersey Devils player, how do you pronounce it? Slingshot or Sherlinger or whatever the hell his name is. I think you guys know Slingshot. But yeah, if the Red Wings can, you know, that’s and that’s part of the PSA message to Steveman. We’ll we’ll talk about that as we continue along. But let’s go into the Nashville Predators game, Carlo, where once again the Red Wings want to start this game by being down because you had Old Man Michael Bunting getting a power play goal to start the game. Going into the second period, the Red Wings actually were able to put themselves up. Alex Debrink with a power play goal. James Van Remsteike once again getting his second goal in two games on the power play. Assisted by Patrick Kane and Nate Danielson. He’s getting assisted by all by all these young guys, which is nice to see. Then by the third period, that’s kind of where it all collapsed once again. Carlo Preds get two on answer gold and Ben Sherat makes it a tie game. I thought by that point, you know, this game was going to go into overtime and that was very early on. But then your boy Ryan O’Reilly that you want the Detroit Red Wings to potentially go after for center help makes it a 4 to3 game and it was just game over from there. Even Steven Stamos was able to get a get a goal in the net, but it was an empty net goal. So the Red Wings do lose six to three. Same thing in this game too. Actually, I maybe don’t want to make that comparison, but same thing here, Carlo. The Red Wings outshoot their opponents. You actually did very well on the power play. You went 50% two for four. You had 17 block shots compared to Nashville’s eight. You had a lot of giveaways this game. Nashville’s one of the worst teams in the league. Carlo, make it make sense for the people at home as to why did the Detroit Red Wings, you’ve kind of said it before where the ability to be unprepared for the bad teams seems to be a huge sticking point for this Detroit Red Wings team so far this season. Yeah, listen, I don’t know if I can make it make sense for anybody at home cuz I’m not I can’t really justify it myself. You know, Nashville I I expected the Wings to win this game truly at home. Predators team that I think was banged up. Although they did have Yosi back and he’s a huge piece to that team. Huge piece to that team. And he actually he scored too. Yeah, it was gross. He’s he’s awesome, man. Roman Yosi is great. I’ve won a lot of this game, didn’t he? Did he get two? I thought he only got one. He got that one coast to coast and then he got one that was very close to being out in front of the net. It was like he shot it, bounced off his own player and then he was able to collect that rebound and then put it basically top tip over. I only see him on the score sheet once. He was effective. Maybe a different player then, but yeah, he was he was just he’s that’s just Roman Yosi. So, that’s a huge piece. You know what? I I uh when I saw that the goalie they started, I think it was a Nunan with a like I think he’s one of the worst goalies in the league. Not that ours are any better right now, but brutal numbers, hardly any wins. That’s when I knew that we were losing this game. Some people are going to give me for that, but I just had a feeling. And then sure enough, you know, first period, second period, I thought, okay, maybe not. Maybe these guys are in this, you know, we’re in one here. I thought they had a way a better second period than they did first period. And as a result of that better second period, they went up 2-1. But coming out on time in the third period needs to be something that’s underscored and highlighted here because they gave up two goals right away in the third period within 15 seconds of each other. Ben Sherro scores to tie it. They play hockey for whatever 10 minutes and then two goals again scored within 30 seconds and now it’s it’s 5-3 Nashville. I don’t again I don’t know how to make that make sense for people at home. I I don’t so I’m sorry. This is a game they probably want back and this is a game they have a lot to learn from, especially when it comes to playing hockey for 10 minutes without any goals and uh getting a game to either overtime or taking a lead. I think it just comes out comes down to coming out on time in the third period of all these games moving forward regardless of what the score is. I mean, they went into this third period two to one. Lock it down, man. Lock it down. Try to get another goal, but lock it down. No, they let Nashville score two unanswered within 15 seconds. It’s like that’s not that’s that’s very that’s a fragile thing to do, man. And I don’t think Ed was back for this game either. Correct me if I’m wrong. So, I mean, he was not. He was not. This is where they actually inserted Eric Gustin. So, that third pairing might have been the Travis Hamick with Eric Guffs. If not, Eljo Joe was down there. But, yeah, Eric Gufferson was playing in this game with Travis Hamick as well. Yeah. So, again, like, you know, they’re they’re pretty pretty soft on the on the D side as well. I just didn’t think Nashville is going to expose it like they did, but they did. I mean, does that what does that tell you about our D that it’s there’s some big holes there that Steve needs to help us with? Let’s talk about that real quick because after this game, so it was Albert Johansson paired up with Travis Hamnick, Eric Gustin got to play up on the second pair with um I’m assuming then that would be ASP. After the game, Aljo and Hamik were combined for one goal for 12 goals against five on five to be the worst pair in the National Hockey League. Not surprised by that, dude. So, let me ask you this for you and for the people at home. We’ll allow Carlo obviously to answer this and then you guys can leave it down in the comments for us. I think I know the answer to this. Is Travis Hamnick that bad? I’m just going to answer that question. Yes, I think he is that bad. Was the expectation maybe going into the season or maybe that’s changed now that Albert Johansson would be able to man that pair with Travis Hamnik if push came the shove to answer it as well. It clearly doesn’t. But your thoughts on that? I just don’t think Hamick’s good enough to play in the NHL anymore. And it’s not I don’t think the teammate or his partner is going to fix his problems. I think he it could help him because they could cover for him, but you know, Tra Travis Hamick would would do well on a team that is, you know, very defensively sound as a unit. Like you put Travis Hamick on the Florida Panthers, probably going to look okay statwise, numbers wise, goals for whatever, he’s going to look okay because that team knows how to play defense as a fiveman unit. rolling all four lines. The Red Wings do not. So, when you bring a guy like Hamik in to be part of a solution on a team that needs way more guys to be a solution, it just doesn’t really add up, man. That does that math ain’t mathing. And he’s not going to look great on on the Detroit Red Wings when the Detroit Red Wings don’t look great defensively as a unit for all four lines, you know? So, I don’t know if the partner matters. I think it’s just it’s overexposure of the holes they have. I’m just going to kind of keep repeating that this team needs big time help on the D side so that they can get slotted properly. You know, these older guys that keep getting brought in on a one-year, yeah, but it’s a one-year deal and it’s it’s, you know, league minimum or it’s super cheap. It’s like that’s that’s that’s cool, but that does nothing for the game. That does not tilt the the game in our favor in any which way. So, again, my answer is if I’m answering it at all is I don’t think a partner matters, man. I just think that this team needs to figure out how to play sound defense as a unit before our defenders start to look good, especially the ones closer to the bottom. That makes sense. I would I would agree with you on that because even in the post game, Tom Mlullen was asked, you know, how do you fill such a black hole? Not word for word, but how do you fill such a black hole on the defensive end when you’re missing a player at the caliber like someone Simon Evansson? Not word for word, but Tom Mlullen said, “I think Simon Evansson is a really good hockey player. We needed seven goals to win this game.” I’m sorry, but Simon Evansson was not going to help us win this game. Now, I think he meant it, cuz it was asked, did he mean Simon Evansson would help on the scoring front or deplete some of the goals that went in? I think he meant more so maybe a little bit of both, Carlo. Uh maybe you think about it a little bit differently, but I would agree with him. I think if Simon Evansson, if he was in this game, maybe at most would have helped out the team with not allowing one of these goals, maybe at most two. You you truly don’t know. It’s all speculation, hypotheticals in this scenario. But I would agree with Todd. I don’t think Simon Evansson would have helped propel this team to get the four extra goals that they needed. And he even said it too in in his post game that you look around the league, a lot of these teams aren’t allowing the other team to score more than four on them. Four to three. Okay, we’re seeing a lot of two to ones, three to twos, but six, like even if we scored five, you’re losing six to five. What’s going on here? And Todd’s right for asking those types of questions and calling out the team like he has to continuously after each game that they lose. So, it’s got to get super frustrating for him. And Carlo, you’d probably agree with me that eventually push comes to shove. PSA to Steve SOS send some help. Um, a lot of people were and still are and we’ll continue this trend as we continue to go along. Carlo, you had Cam Talbbit starting in in both of these games. As expected, a lot of people were putting blame on John Gibson. Yeah, I was one of them. I was one of them. Are we now seeing the same issue with Camt, but people are saying it’s the goalending in general? I don’t think it’s goalending in general at this point, if even now it’s happening to Camt. Yeah, I I I should probably own this one. Take it on the chin. You’re you’re you’re bang on, dude. Look, John Gibson, has he let in some soft goals? Yes. I don’t know if Cam Talbot I mean every goalie lets in soft goals. I’m sure Cam is let in a few that he wants back too but I’ve also seen Cam make some huge saves for us as well. I just haven’t seen those huge saves from from John Gibson. I’ve seen a couple like he’s made some right but I haven’t seen the frequency that we’ve seen it with Talbot. Now that’s because Talbot’s playing a little bit more so you’re exposed to watching him face more shots naturally. So, it’s going to stand out more and it’s I guess a little bit of a bias here being reasonable. You know, a lot of these goals this week at least, and I’m not saying this cuz Cam Talbot saw the crease the most, but they really were complete breakdowns on the team. And again, back to John Gibson, a lot of the goals he let in were as a result of breakdowns from the team as well, for sure. But there were some softies, too. Like, let’s call the spade a spade here. So, yeah. I mean, the problem is that the number one problem with this team is is the the five the fiveman unit playing deep. It’s just not really there. It just sucks that when Gibson’s in, he’s letting in squeakers. I can’t remember if it was I don’t know what game it was. I think it was against Tampa where he let in he let in the five hole. Johnny five hole. Well, but it was 100 miles an hour shot. Like, brother, I could have slid through that five hole myself at 5 miles per hour. Like, I could have just dove right through it. Like, it was gaping. So stuff like that, man, just needs to it needs to get better. And I again, I hope he’s putting in the work. I know he is. He’s a pro, but you know, I hope he’s getting the right the right works coached through to uh to get him fixed up. And hopefully our team can go through a practice to get better defensively cuz we’re at the point now where doesn’t matter who’s in net, brother. We’re back to that kind of conversation that we had last season where you can put prime time Dominic Hassich in there and he’ll keep you in the game. Don’t get me wrong, he’ll make those huge saves as we expect him to, but when you’re not playing sound defensive hockey as a team, even Dom’s going to let in some goals. So, take that for what it’s worth. I agree. Going over to the Tampa Bay Lightning game, I am 0 and3 on games this year, Carlo, cuz I You’re not going to games anymore. I’m sorry. Maybe we have to go to one. Maybe like you and I do cuz I think I’m like two and0 or two and 0 this year. And every game that I’ve been to, the Romans have been scored on five or more times. Montreal This is weird. This is bizarre, dude. Cuz every game I go to, they score five goals and get the dub. This is bizarre. That’s crazy, man. Talking about this game, JT Confer opens it up with the scoring. Huge for JT Confer. I’m sure that kind of takes a little monkey off his back considering that’s his fourth goal of the season. He doesn’t really get too many points, although he is leading or at least second behind leading centers on this team and points right behind Dylan Lurin. RIP to Marco Casper in a sophomore slump. Well, once again, Carlo, same song and dance. You’re except you’re not you’re not following behind in this game. You actually start the game with scoring and then you allow three unanswered goals. Michael Rasmusen makes it a one-goal game. Then from there, Dylan Larkin makes it a 4-3 game and then downhill from there. So, talking about that, so backtracking a little bit to the PRS game. So, there were more net front deflections in that game. Very similar to New Jersey. this game. Same exact thing. Netfront, we do a terrible job at getting players out in front of our goalender. That goal that you were talking about where John Gibson, because John Gibson was in this net, I was row six. I was at the uh faceoff circle. I could see it with my own two eyes. That second goal that went in, that was the five-fold Johnny one that you mentioned. Yeah. I’m putting a lot of blame on Albert Johansson. He had the puck. He was in the slot. gets pickpocketed and then the goal goes in. So, I will agree with you. John Gibson, yes, close your legs, please. But Albert Johansson, I’m going to call it out right now. He’s just not having that great of a season. No, the game against Tampa, he looks bad. And that goes back to the question that I asked earlier. Is someone like Travis Hamick actually destroying Albert Johansson currently this season? Well, you got to cover for a guy that’s, you know, a little bit older than you and naturally a little bit slower than you. So, like I said with Hamik, like he he gets to point A, does his job, and if he does it well enough, he doesn’t got to get to point B for that sequence. The problem is that he’s not doing his job well enough. And as a result of that, he’s not able to get to point B because that sequence typically will break down and then he’s got to go now get to the front of the net. He’s too slow to do that. So, you have a guy now, it’s like twoon-one, right? It’s Eljo Joe versus the world at that point or whoever Ham’s partners is going to be that shift because we’ve seen that switch around a lot. It’s hard to cover for for Hamik and uh he he I just don’t know what else this team is supposed to do. It doesn’t seem like he’s really going anywhere. Um unless of course we get some help that we really really need on the D side right now. We need something. We need a spark. Like every time this team gets a spark, they go on a ripper, right? Last season Todd Mlen came in, they they snap off two seven game heaters. Like get these guys a spark, man. Bring in someone who is reasonable, who’s got some some some clout to give this team a spark because they’re they’re here. Like they’re they’re in the mix. You know what I mean? You can’t expect this team as is to stay in the mix in the Atlantic division, dude. Like, it’s the Atlantic division. So, I hope I hope I hope somebody comes in and and there’s a spark. I don’t know who, but you know, we could talk about some of the rumors that are flying around, but we need a spark. And whether that’s some new personnel or whatever, but we need some Let’s Yeah, let’s re-engage that once we get through these games because I do want to talk about that. So, moving along in this game, while Travis Hamnick wasn’t playing in this game, you did have JBD in here. Uh, both of them as a pair were a minus two. They only played less than 15 minutes for this game. But another nitpick that I have, I it was just very clear. So, so the first period, I thought the Red Wings stayed within pace of Tampa. get into the second period. It was actually the same thing how you mentioned I think it was against the Pred’s game where they were just unprepared at the start of the second period and that’s how you let in all these goals. So it started with the Aljo incident. Then Dano, actually, I will call out Dano where I do believe personally, I’m just going to nitpick on him, was partially responsible for the other two goals that happened in the second period because on the third overall goal, Nate Danielson, he was trying to play defense. Somehow he swung his stick that made the puck essentially shoot on our own net against John Gibson. Net front issue once again. Then on the fourth goal, Nate Danielson was backing. Yeah. Pushed the opposing Tampa Bay player into John Gibson, which then led to the goal. So John Gibson, I mean, granted it was six to three. He only allowed five of them in. The young guys, and this is part of the up and down roller coaster. I made a very lengthy tweet. I think it was before this game actually, about we’re not hyperritical enough on Steve Eisman. If you guys want to go ahead and read that tweet, go ahead. It’s on my Twitter page, Zack Traathnon. HT RD. A lot of people call us out for not being critical on Steve Carlo. I think it’s very easy for us to say here that the signings that he did make uh this off season, it’s very easy to question them. Yeah, it’s easy to question them with hindsight, dude. Like when Gibson got signed, everybody was jacked because it was like, oh, we’re getting John Gibson and then now it’s not working out. So, it’s easy to oh, Steve, what are you doing? It’s like he didn’t know what he’s not a psychic, man. So, it’s like, yeah, be critical on Eerman, but be reasonable at the same time. So, basically what I was going to go at with this is that this is exactly what people wanted. If you weren’t going to go out and get the bigname free agents, which you couldn’t anyways because they were already locked up with all these other teams, that’s no secret. Somehow, people will still blame him for not being able to do it, going out and making a big trade. I totally get that. However, this is exactly what fans wanted. We wanted instead of seeing veterans continuously make these mistakes and not learning from it. Now, we’re getting it from the rookies where we hope in return they do learn from it. And unfortunately, in this this game, this is where we saw it where the younger players and the rookies made mistakes and it costed the wings this game. That’s who I put the blame on this game. If I had to select someone, I’ll probably get a lot of hate for this and that’s okay. But hopefully some out there will agree with me on that. It’s It was not a pretty game. But then you also look at some of even the better players. Patrick Kane, I mean, like I told you, Patrick Kane had plenty of opportunities to put the puck in the back of the net this game. He went minus three. Alex de Brinkat was minus three. Nate Danielson minus two. Once that second period hit, it was all downhill from there. Carlo, what’s your overall thoughts and opinions on this game? Very similar to yours, dude. I mean, you’re the younger the younger uh the younger players on this team made some some mistakes. And the thing is with that, it’s it’s an easier pill to swallow at the end of the day. A loss sucks. No doubt about it. But when it’s coming at the younger guys making mistakes, you’re hoping that they’re learning from them. Just like you said, it’s a way easier pill to swallow in my opinion. I’m not trying to justify the loss. Still stings, like I said, but I’d rather the rookies or the younger, you know, players make these mistakes than the vets who are kind of stuck in their ways. You know, Patrick Kane, real quick, and I’m sure we’re going to segue into the Boston game where everything I’m about to say is is going to be overrided in the Boston game because Patrick Kane I thought looked really good against Boston, especially in that third period. But uh up until the game against Tampa, Patrick Kane has not looked like himself at all. Uh like at all. It looks like he can’t keep up with play against second line players. Um he’s getting that line is getting decimated. He’s uh obviously effective on the power play and and mainly only the power play. I think that’s where about 85% of his points are coming from. And I think of those points over 50% of them are secondary assists. I mean, he’s just so shaking off the rust. But I just wanted to talk about Patrick Kane a little bit because up until that game, he really has not looked great. Uh, I did put up a poll. Is Patrick Kane washed? I think it had like over 150 votes and it was deadlocked at 5050. So, I mean, we I don’t know. I’m not saying he is washed. I’m saying he needs to play better. And then, you know, fast forward now to the Boston game. Patrick Kane did look like he was, you know, starting to regain his Patrick Kane form. Took till the third period. So, I hope that starts to carry over into the next game on Tuesday right in the first period, but he did he was working hard. He was backing hard and there was one play he made backing him. That’s the hardest I’ve seen Patrick Kane work in weeks and uh and he looked okay. So, hopefully that’s a sign of good things to come for for PK88. Flip it back over to you to break down Boston. Same song and dance other than first period straight wash. So the Red Wings, maybe we have differing opinions on this game, Carlo. I thought for the most part, the Red Wings did all right this game. You were able to keep Boston off of the score sheet at least in the first period. But then you go into the second, Morgan Geeki, the lone goal scorer there. You go into the third period, Lucas Raymond ties it up. Then you allow Morgan Geeki to get another one on the power play. Moose Michael Rasmusen gets it tied late into the third period. He eventually goes into a shootout. Overall though, going back to what I was saying, I thought the Red Wings did all right keeping up with Boston. However, Boston showcased their skill set of being a very heavy, hardhitting, good on their skin team that they are, and they’ve always been like that. Even with missing someone like Brad Marshian who leads that type of play for a team like this, but the Red Wings, what hurt them? 0 for five on the power play. Carlo, you got you got on the power play five times and you only finished with 26 shots on net. And then Boston only had 19 shots in this game and you lost going into a shootout three-2. And then obviously some defensive laps lapses costed the Red Wings this game unfortunately. Morgan Geeky, him and Nathan McKinnon are the only two players so far this season to reach 20 goals. Who would pegs? No, nobody. No one. So, good on Boston for actually having a player like that. But a similar situation here, Carlo, the Boston Bruins were able to dummy them up. It wasn’t towards the end of the game. Merid Cider got in a fight, he got dummy. There were plenty of other younger players like I think EMTT Finny got tossed around. ASC got tossed around several times. That’s the one critical part that I have about this team, and I probably already said this earlier in this episode. The Red Wings just don’t have someone like that. If we could find just one person to take it on themselves to be that guy that answers the bell for this team or forces the other team to answer the bell for their hits. Like, we shouldn’t be allowing players to take open ice hits on players like Lucas Raymond. We shouldn’t be seeing players like Moat Cider fighting players because they laid a big hit on our younger players or or what have you. I just think it’s a little ridiculous. I think Steve Eisermanman once again PSA SOS send help. I truly don’t know. Maybe I’m getting too far ahead of myself, but I don’t know how much you want to talk about on this game, Carlo, but maybe I’m jumping too far ahead. But this team desperately needs a shakeup. And I don’t think that comes from within. I don’t think that’s in Grand Rapids Griffins. Even if Carter Mazer was playing, I don’t think Carter Mazer is going to be that guy that answers it because he’s basically made out of glass himself. He gets injured every single season. He’s injured right now. Maybe maybe it could be MBN. Uh just for the forcheing side of it, him laying out the hits and everything. I don’t really expect him to be a fighter. I don’t even think he’s a fighter. You could call up someone like Austin Watson maybe, but even during his time with us last season, not very many fights. It’s got to come from the outside, Carlo. That’s why I’m highlighting PSA to Steve Eiserman’s SOS. We need you. We need you to go out and get someone on this team. And this is where we get into these topics a little bit, Carlo. Outside of the games, is that the help has to come from outside. It’s high time Steve does something like this. And you brought it up earlier in this episode. This team needs a spark. And I do believe and I agree with you that this team does need a spark and it has to come from the outside. And Steve Eisman needs to get someone who has the mentality to get these boys going. Yeah. They have been missing the David Piran effect ever since he went to the Ottawa Senators because we didn’t want to pay him. No, that’s a good bring up, dude, because David David Pon was definitely a spark plug on that bench, dude. And even with the way he played and and he was great. This is the thing, you know, bringing in a goon is not what’s going to win you hockey games. It’s going to win you the fight in that hockey game. That guy’s not going to be the differencemaker to winning the game. So, do I think we need a spark? Yes. Would I prioritize somebody who’s a goon or gritty or willing to drop a glove or two? No chance. Because he might win you the fight, but he’s not going to win you the game. So, we need we need some some we need defensive help, you know, and I’m going to bring this rumor up. I don’t think there’s a shot in the dark on this one. I don’t think there’s a shot in broad daylight, frankly, on this one. But Jeff Merrick keeps tooting the horn of Quinn Hughes and the Detroit Red Wings and he’s been doing it heavy duty all week long. I have I don’t know if there’s anything there. I I’m not getting my hopes up for it, but I really don’t know if there’s anything there to begin with. That’s a spark though, dude. That’s a guy that can win you the game without question for multiple reasons. Single-handedly, he could go and do it. Go watch his tape, dude. He’s unreal. Okay. Generational, I would say. But he also allows you to spread out your D a little bit. You know, I think I was honestly thinking that Ben Sherat was going to be playing with Mo last night. That wasn’t the case. Edson was still with with You bring in a guy like Quinn Hughes, you immediately break up Mo and Ed. And now Ed’s dropping down to the second line to play with, let’s call it ASP, which means Ben Sherro is on the third pair. Little more solid, man. that’s a little bit more solid. So, individually, back to my point, Quinn Hughes, he can do it on his own, but he also allows you to to just really reslot and rejig your defensive group to be way more solid all the way down, all the way through. Again, that will win you hockey games. Now, if you can go and get a guy closer to trade deadline, cuz you bring in a spark, it works well. You’re you’re in the mix, you’re in the hunt, trade deadline rolls around, you want to bring in that playoff spark. Now you start to look at a guy who maybe can, you know, put the fist of cuffs up and and go win that fight that’s in the game, but priority one is bringing in the guy who’s going to win you the game straight up. And what are your thoughts on this whole Quinn Quinn Hughes thought? Yeah, I guess I should reiterate too when I said that this team needs a spark and that they some of these players shouldn’t be taking on the battles that they feel like that they need to. It didn’t really necessarily mean go out and get someone who’s who’s just going to be the bruiser and go out to because I do agree with you here that that name starts with Quinn Hughes. That is someone who brings the spark to this team, ignites this team, and it comes just based on the skill set. He’s been he’s a defenseman, left-handed shooting defenseman. He’s been a point per game player essentially since 2223. He was just under two points for being a point per game. But since then, 92 points in 82 games, 76 points in 68 games. He’s got 22 points in 21 games so far this year with the Vancouver Conucks. He’s a sick player. Anyone outside of Wings fandom will will tell you the Wings messed up big time by not drafting him. Everything’s in hindsight. You got Philip Zadena, he was supposed to be a top three pick. Everything is in hindsight. Also, it already came out that Ken Holland was not going to select Quinn Hughes even if Sadino wasn’t there. Now, the cost of getting someone like a Quinn Hughes, Carlo, this is where we see a lot of differing opinions on on both sides, whether if that’s from Vancouver fans, Red Wings fans. Uh, you got to throw in New Jersey fans in there, too, because New Jersey fans firmly believe that they are shoeing to get a player like Quinn Hughes. I sent you a tweet about what the potential cost would be from a New Jersey standpoint. I asked you if that’s something we could match or even be out for someone like a Quinn Hughes Carlo. I don’t know how they we saw we saw another tweet where they said like uh maybe it was David Pagnoto where he said it starts with someone like Lucas Raymond which makes absolutely no sense but I do believe that if you were Steve Eisman and the Detroit Red Wings it at least starts with you give him a left-handed defenseman for the sake of this season that would probably be Albert Johansson. It’s not enough. You’re not moving on Simon Evansson. You could probably give him Ben Sherrod, but I think if you’re Steve Iceman, you want to keep Ben Sherrod over Albert Johansson. Ben Sherrod currently this season brings a little bit more than Johansson does. Um, and we got plenty of left-handed D prospects in the pipeline with Wallander Puyo. So, that’s why I selected him. You probably have to move on from either Marco Casper or Nate Danielson. Pick one or the other. You probably have to give them a winger as well, someone of the MBN caliber. And then you probably have to add in you at least have to add in a first round pick easily. And then you probably have to include a second in there. And you’re this isn’t just all that for one. You’d probably have to take on more from Vancouver. So maybe you can get like one more player out of it. Someone who could play on your fourth line of something of some sort. Maybe you can get a right-handed defenseman. I don’t know. I haven’t really looked at the roster, but that’s the kind of uncomfortability that we would be looking at as Detroit Red Wings fans to get someone like Quinn Hughes, who currently is still contracted. So, he’s got this year and next year with a cap hit at $7.85 million. The question is, two questions actually. Do you feel comfortable enough to give up something like that in a trade where it’s multiple picks, multiple top talented prospects that you have in your pipeline? And then you also have to ask the question, do you believe Quinn Hughes would sign an extension with the Detroit Red Wings? So, I guess three questions. And how much do you even give someone like Quinn Hughes with the cap going up? Well, I think to get a guy like Quinn Hughes, you’re only doing that if you know for sure he’s going to resign. Uh, I think I heard recently that his family is still residing in Michigan. His family is in Michigan. He’s from Michigan. All that good stuff. So, there are some, you know, whatever you want to call that, some box checking there that, you know, makes Detroit a place that makes sense. Now, you tell a guy like him that he has the opportunity to potentially play with Mosider. That might be exciting to him. That could be a box checking thing. Now, there’s the rumor that he wants to play with his brother in New Jersey. So, obviously having your brother, that’s a huge box checker. But yeah, true. But they don’t have the cap to do it, man. So, now we talk about the price. You know, Vancouver’s got a lot of RFAS coming up at the end of this year or Vancouver New Jersey has a lot of RFAS coming up at the end of this season. I think next season they’re projected to have 11 million in cab space. So, I don’t know how they would even bring him in because I think he gets around that much money. So, to answer your question on all that stuff except for who it’s going to take to get him if you’re with the Red Wings. I think he’s going to fetch between 10 to12 million based off of what he’s doing. Could see I could see more than that. Honestly, I know I’m being comp I’m being very conservative when I say that because Steve Eisermanman’s the conservative GM that we have, but 10 to 12 plus, let’s call it. Now, you talk about what does it take to get him. I think the conversation starts at, you know, ASP. Believe it or not, right or wrong, I think that’s naturally something Vancouver is going to want back. I think it’s definitely going to be a first round pick. I think you can get creative on that. I think you can apply conditions to that first round pick. Um, and then I think it’s probably going to be Marco Casper. Casper ASP, a first round pick. Is that even enough for a guy like Quinn Hughes? Don’t know. Don’t think so, but maybe. I It’s It would be great. You know what I mean? Like this is the thing. Detroit’s starting to get into that having I got a cupboard full of you know desirable things here. Like they’re just that cupboard just is getting stocked. I wouldn’t even say it’s fully stocked yet, but like there’s somebody there frontf facing everything making it look good in that cupboard for when this time comes. I do think it’s a little premature right now like today as we’re talking about it, but you got to try, right? You got to try because we need that spark. So the only reason So what a lot of New Jersey Devils fans are doing is that in their trade proposals because that’s basically what it comes down to I think personally is that it’s the New Jersey Devils versus the Detroit Red Wings. I think those are the two top teams that there probably are some other teams out there, right? You can’t exclude Vegas Golden Knights from this conversation because they’re in on everyone. Can’t ever can’t ever. But you got to look at the box checkers. who’s got those those extracurricular box checking things and Detroit for sure does with Michigan and and family, but so does New Jersey with the brothers. The thing is is who can practically make this happen when it comes to money. Detroit’s got that one all day. So with New Jersey, what a lot of their fans are doing, they’re including Douggee Hamilton who after this season still has two more years and $9 million. that clears away $9 million and then you have to add in probably another piece in there. Obviously, whoever’s on the team, maybe they want someone like like a Dawson Mercer who’s having a really good season. The only reason why I actually don’t see that happening and the only reason why I don’t see now flipping it over to the Detroit Red Wings perspective, Carlo, I actually don’t think that they would want someone like ASP because you look at their roster, they have Philip Peronic, who signed to Long-Term back in 2023, the same draft class as ASP and Nate Danielson, they drafted Tom Willander, who is a right-handed defenseman. Now, you look at it from a futures perspective, right? You’re not going to have Philip Peronic forever, but then you look at that and you’re going to have Philip Peronic, Tom Willander, and then ASP. Nasty right-handed Dside. Your left is kind of lacking at that point. Plus, you kind of want to find as close of a replacement on that left side if you move on from someone like Quinn Hughes. Other than that, if you’re looking at past draft history, they’ve taken a lot of forwards. They have a decent amount of defenseman on there. I don’t know their situation through and through, but even this past draft and the one before then 252 24, they’ve drafted two defenseman and those two defenseman got drafted in the sixth and seventh round. Now, it all kind of comes down to does Vancouver want ready now young players? Do they want cuz you even look at it from a Calgary Flames perspective. When they traded Brady Kachchuck, they took on someone like who was the player that got traded in that? Jonathan Hubedo. Then they went on and signed Nasm Cadri. Yeah. They wanted to try and keep everything afloat, stay competitive, and they didn’t. If I were Vancouver, they might want to do a soft retool on the fly, so to say, if they move on from someone from Quinn Hughes, maybe not just draft picks, maybe not players that are still two to three years away from making the NHL. So that’s kind of why I centered it around a center, Albert Johansson, maybe a winger, or you can throw in a goalender. Maybe they might be interested in a Sebastian Kosa or a Trey Austinine. You bring up the goalie piece. I think that’s that’s an interesting one. I don’t know if it’s if it’s premature to talk about Kosa. I think we need to see him play some NHL games and I think the league needs to see that, too. you know, his numbers look really, really good in the AHL and he’s having a really, really good season so far. But I think we need to see that in the NHL, not only we, but like the whole league does, right, to make a a thing like that. Trey Augustine’s interesting, though, because because of his situation, do you take a gamble on Trey Augustine if you’re a GM? What’s the value of Trey Augustine in a trade in the National Hockey League? You know, these are things that I’m sure are being, you know, floated around. I don’t know the answers to these things, but a goalie thing is is definitely something to consider. I just don’t know how much value the goalies that are in the AHL or in Trey’s case, the NCAA, I don’t know how much value they’re going to have, right? They got some really good numbers behind them. They got some weight behind their name, but they have never played in the NHL, so I don’t know what value that looks like. The goalie piece is tough. I I don’t think if you’re not including ASP, I don’t know. Like I understand the the the reasoning behind El Joe or a Ben, but let’s face it, dude. Those guys aren’t desirable enough to get something like that done for a guy of the caliber of Quinn Hughes. It’s unfortunate to say, but it’s the reality. I don’t know if I don’t know why. Like, I’m just thinking if I was running the Vancouver Conucks, am I going to be giddy about a guy named Albert Johansson? No, I’m not. when I have Quinn Hughes, uh, it’s just realistically I’m not going to get excited about that at all. Right. And that also comes down to how many teams I mean, there might be actually a lot of teams who would be willing to trade a top four defenseman that they have for a Quinn Hughes for us in that instance. Would we feel comfortable with inserting a Simon Edmonson in that case and upgrade him? Cuz I would say with certainty, and I might get a lot of hate for this, but Quinn Hughes is a big upgrade compared to Simon Edinson. Yeah. But then we’re still we still have a hole in the top four. Correct. That’s our whack-a-ole, dude. This is literally another case of the whack-a-ole. I mean, yeah, but that’s that’s a good thing to have because that means that Simon Evson would probably get, you know, Vancouver’s GM excited to get the conversation rolling. But do we want to part with him? That’s the question we need to ask ours ask ourselves. Mhm. You know, I think the answer one for one, you look at it probably yes, but then you look at the whole big picture and it’s like, man, I don’t think so because that’s just a whack-a-ole. Another hole pops up and what was really the point of that at the end of the day. So, I don’t know, man. It’s let Jeff Merrick keep covering this. No kidding. And honestly, I don’t really see just kind of going back to a Trey Augustine and Sebastian Kosa standpoint. You look at the goalenders for the Vancouver Conucks. They have Thatcher Demco who unfortunately is on IR. He should be back. He signed a contract extension not that long ago actually. And that starts and kicks in next season at $8.5 million. And then they have Kevin Lanken in as well for up until 2030. So their goalending situation isn’t in dire need so to say in terms of a lengthy contract or having one locked up. So their goalending is pretty locked in. But I would agree with you. Yeah. I mean, does and that’s kind of what it comes down to is you look at free agency there’s probably not a lot of bigname left-handed defenseman out there. Vancouver would then need to go out and probably either trade for one. Maybe they think Marcus Patterson is someone who can man the top left-handed Dside. They also have an Elash Patterson on defense. He shoots left. He’s a little bit younger. They got they got Joseph Pierre Olivier. I’m assuming that’s their seventh defenseman. I don’t know what their prospect pool looks like right now. Outside of Simon Edmonson, we really don’t have any top tier left-handed D players that we could offer them. Maybe they might be interested in Ben Sherro. They could extend him. Ben Sherro is having a contract year. He’s actually looking pretty good for the Detroit Red Wings. Continuously puts up some points. Think he looks good in a top four role. So maybe we see that happen. But it comes down to how much value because and you asked this question, you know, how much stock can you put into a goalender that’s in the NC right now as in Trey Austin. If we looked at it from the perspective of the players that we initially laid out, you know, you could include Albert Johansson, Marco Casper, Nate Danielson, ASP, NBN, some of these other players that Vancouver Canucks GM, it’s Patrick Alvine, right? Patrick Alvine. He might see value in some of these players more than the next GM would. We just truly never know. Like he might be really high on someone like Albert Johansson more so than maybe like a Nashville Predators general manager might. Or same thing with Michael Branar. Maybe they see him as like the next David Fon/Ter Senko type of player. A Marco Casper. Maybe they do see him as a top six player but maybe not at the center position but at the left wing position. We just truly never know in situations like this. Yeah, that’s fair. But for the sake of the conversation, Carlo, I agree with you that the Red Wings do have the pieces to facilitate a trade for a player of the caliber of Quinn Hughes. It’s going to really hurt and sting on what it’s going to cost us. But I believe it would be worth it considering that if you get him now at the age of 26, next he’ll eventually be 27, then you can sign him to an 8-year deal. So by that time he’s like 28, whatever, you’re going to keep him until he’s 36. You actually your number one left-handed defenseman right there. Simon Evson doesn’t have to exert himself. you know, you can allow him to actually be one of the better second pair left-handed defenseman in the league because of that. And going back to it, you still have players like Wallander, ShyuM down there in the system, and he can eventually draft some more left-handed D prospects, which the Red Wings still need to do. The Red Wings should be all over this, Carlo. 100%. No disagreements here. Yeah. Not just from a fan perspective, but also from you got to look at it from a cap perspective as well. There’s there’s a floor that you have to meet. You’re not going to be able to sign players in free agency. There’s one young player on this Detroit Red Wings team they have to sign next season, and that’s Simon Edmonson. He’s not going to get 10 million. More than likely, we might move on from some of these players. Like I do see a world where we actually move on from a cop or a confer in the next off season. So you got to find caps somewhere. They have cat though, dude. Like they even if they sign Simon Edmonson like they have $41 million. You sign Simon Edmonson. Yes. Correct. You still have Okay, let’s call it 33 million. $32 million. Like you can make this work. And the most important piece to me why Quinn Hughes makes the most sense is the timeline. Cider’s 24, Quinn Hughes is 26. The core he completely becomes a part of the core. This is this is why Detroit needs to be all over this. They just got to be careful with the return and how much it stings. That’s really the cap of that one. That’s to cap that one up. That’s what it comes down to, dude. So basically what I was trying to get at, but I 100% agree with you and that was where how I was going to end it overall. But what I was trying to get at, yeah, what I was trying to get at essentially was that whatever you give Quinn Hughes is actually going to help out this team because like I said, if you move on from a cop or a comp for next season, which you have to, you have to move on from one or the other. You can’t have them both. And you know, if you move on from Casper or Danielson, maybe that helps out a little bit. But if you don’t make this move, you still would have to move on from one of them because Marco Casper and Nate Danielson and plenty of other prospects that we’ll see eventually on this team have to have to make this team. You still have a floor that you technically have to meet. Like you mentioned, we’ll have 41 next year. The following season, we’ll have probably close to what 50 60 maybe 77.2. So, you have to give money to to players like if if Dmitri Buchalnikov makes the team next season or in two years, you can’t just give them $6 million off the rip, right? And you’re not going to go out there and sign these free agents and and give them here’s $7 million to Joe Schmo. You can’t do that. So, they still have to meet some type of floor. So, if Quinn Hughes, that’s why I was kind of like I can see Quinn Hughes getting more than 10 to 12 million on his next extension. That wouldn’t shock me. It could be as close as 13 to $15 million. There are very little far in between defenseman that are a point per game player, let alone that one season he got 92 points in an 80ame season. That’s absolutely absurd. That’s Kale Mar stuff right there. It’ll be very interesting to see how that all transpires. But that’s that’s exactly what I’m trying to get at with this whole Quinn Hughes thing is that and like how you said, how you wrapped it up and read my mind and get the cameras out of my home. Quinn Hughes overall makes sense for the Detroit Red Wings, the timeline and everything that comes along with it. Not only for a cap perspective, not just from a team perspective. the type of difference he would bring to our young players like Lucas Raymond Moit Cider, Simon Evson, and whoever else you want to throw in there that wouldn’t be involved in a trade for Quinn Hughes. He will elevate this team. And if you were to make this trade today, I would say this team would be a playoff lock. You might have to tinker here and there at the trade deadline, but I think you’re a playoff lock if you go out and get a Quinn Hughes. Plus, it gets more people in the seats. I’m sure Chris Illich would love that from a business perspective. You know how much money you’re going to make from those jerseys and then you can sell the fact that he’s a hometown grown talent. The whole Hughes family will be there all the time. Yep. How quickly can you run out of comped seats? One way to find out. And eventually maybe you can convince Jack and and the other brother to come to Michigan be around family all the time. Hey, I mean listen, now we’re getting we’re getting deep into the rabbit hole here, but it’s a good point. It’s a good point because clearly those guys want to play together. If the opport I mean, listen, it’s not like we don’t have the money to make it happen, dude. It’s really not. And the ultimate box checker for any human being, I’m sure, is playing for your hometown team with your whole family there watching. So, sheesh, dude. That’s a thought. It’s a hell of a thought. Before we wrap it up, let’s talk about the situation of if now do you think that the Vancouver Conucks are going to go to Quinn Hughes and ask him, let’s say it just came down to the two right between the New Jersey Devils and the Detroit Red Wings. You have two options. If you were the Vancouver Conucks GM, so Patrick Alvine, do you do the courtesy to Quinn Hughes and ask him, would you rather go to New Jersey or to Detroit or do you just pull the trigger on whoever gives you the best return? No, I think you’re asking him. I think you’re talking to him. I think he’s a big part of the the process, dude. I really do. And then I think you go from there in terms of figuring out how to make it work. I think you have to. There’s got to be some sort of human element to it. And this is without then going back to let’s say he said Detroit. If you’re Patrick Alvine, you’re not going back to see Visman saying, “Yeah, he only wants to get traded to you because you want to get them.” Yeah. You’re going to just work you’re going to work with him. I mean, we saw the Alex Debrink thing. He really wanted to come play in Detroit for his hometown team. And I don’t know how that worked out in terms of, hey, Steve, listen. This guy only wants to come to Detroit. Like, I don’t know if that’s going to be the case. It could be, but who knows? Um, but I do think the player is definitely involved in that conversation for sure, and they can kind of dictate, you know, where it goes. Maybe the GM just kind of liaison and says, “Hey, man, listen. This is realistically this is what’s best for for the team, which is me doing my job, but here’s the opportunity for you. you know, Detroit, they can really make this work and they can make our team better without you because you want like if if you want to go, you got to have have some, you know, some some hard conversations. So, as a GM, you’re just that liaison, I would think, right? And you’re just saying, listen, this is the this is the deal. New Jersey, I like the Detroit offer better. How do you feel about going to play in Detroit? And you kind of go from there. If he’s like, “No, and I want to play in New Jersey.” Well, then you’re got to go back into GM and make figure out a deal that makes the most sense for your club. Otherwise, you’re going to get fired if you if you, you know, dog it. But who knows, dude. It’s going to be interesting to watch see how this plays out because he’s uh he’s a hell of a player. You don’t see players like that get traded every uh every day, right? So, if he is on the trade block and he is available like like we’re seeing a lot of mumblings about, this is going to be one to pay attention to and follow cuz it’s going to be interesting. That’s for damn sure. to kind of wrap it up before we go into our final thoughts. Does it make more sense to trade for Quinn Hughes now, middle of the season or even closer to trade deadline or waiting until the off season where then in the off season you can do a trade with an extension in place because you can’t do it right now. Yeah, I know. I don’t know. That’s a good question. Like I I almost wonder if you’re able to bring in a player now via trade with the understanding or the silent agreement that there’s going to be a big extension attached to it. I don’t know how that works. Like are there such things as silent agreements? Cuz realistically, contractually, he could just burn you and go flip to New Jersey. Exactly. Yeah. So I don’t I don’t know how that part works. I mean, for selfish reasons, I’m going to say I would love to have him now because there’s clearly defensive flaws on this team that I think he would come in and be a huge solution to, let alone being a huge spark to the team. But, so selfishly, I’d want him now, but I think, you know, thinking with logic, you’re probably right. It’s probably something you do in the offseason so you can guarantee yourself this guy for the next eight years or what, seven or eight years, whatever it is. Unless, of course, those silent agreements do exist, which I don’t know if they do. And I look at it from the perspective too, and it would make more sense from a Vancouver standpoint because look, if New Jersey New Jersey is going to have to throw in picks, too, they’re not going to want to trade every player that’s on their roster. And I don’t know what their pick or their prospect situation is. Yeah. New Jerseyy’s probably going to have a pick that’s 20 plus. The Red Wings currently, as it stands, they’re picking bottom 15 or top 15 in the draft if they don’t make the playoff. Possibly. It’s possible. So if so if you trade for Quinn Hughes and you give up some first round picks and if I assume that they do make the playoffs, it’s not going to be as good of a pick. So from a Vancouver standpoint, I could definitely see them where they’re like, we’re just going to wait until the off season. Give us your 2026 first and then whatever else you can offer. That’s kind of where I’m at. If I were Patrick Alvine with the Vancouver Conucks trying to I guess put my tinfoil hat on as we all like to call it, right? But I don’t know what Patrick Alvine wants. It’s going to be very interesting. And I’m surprised we’re not hearing Elash Person trade rumors as well. That’s kind of floating around there. That’s another player be better defensively. Yeah, I mean I wouldn’t I wouldn’t mind targeting someone like him, but um we’re just going to have to we see Carlo. Other than that, just quick tidbit, if it doesn’t start with Quinn Hughes, I would love to see this Red Wings team make an upgrade on the right-handed Dside so that way we can bump Aljo down onto the third pair. Yeah, maybe if the Ducks start to fall off, you can go after someone like Gudes or Trouba, who knows? Just kind of throwing out names out there. But outside Quinn Hughes, any particular position that you would want to upgrade for this team, PSA, SOS, Steve, before we wrap up here, Carlo? Defense. Defense. Just defense. And just just for the people at home who are catching this tail end, how much stock are you putting blame onto Tom McClung? Should be zero. Are you asking me, you, and everyone at home listening? For me, it’s zero. I How do you blame this guy, man? He’s he he knows what he’s doing. He’s He’s He’s a really good coach. He says the right things every single presser. Um Yeah. No, you’re not blaming Todd Mlen at all, please. All right, buddy. Final thoughts. Let it rip. SOS, send help. We need defense. That’s it. That’s it. Steve Eisermanman, please. We are begging you around this time. Well, it’ll be 25 days from now essentially where he made the coaching change. I don’t want to see him wait that much longer. I think we could easily say if Steve Eisermanman pulled the trigger two weeks before the Red Wings probably had a better shot at making the playoffs last year. If you can make an upgrade here somewhere now, now is the time to do it instead of waiting until after Christmas. I get it from the human aspect. You don’t want to trade anyone around that time. It’s the holidays right now. Blah blah blah. Forget about it. Do something about it right now. Just do it. just do it before December 15th if you’re going to do it for the love of God. And just like Carlos said, the Red Wings after the game on Tuesday against the Boston Bruins, the Red Wings will be on a sixgame road trip that’s actually starts in Columbus. Then they shoot out west to play Seattle, Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, and then back to Central to play the Chicago Blackhawks. And they have eight away games, Carlo. And what is that? That’s seven home games. So more away than there is home, but the aways are more congested. So another West Coast trip where we might see the Red Wings struggle, but we should have a clear indicator of what this team is. If we don’t now, we will during the week of the 7th through the 13th. Yepers. And I think that’s our final thoughts. Let’s go Red Wings. That’s kind of about it. If you guys caught us on this brand new episode, thanks for joining us once again if you are returning.
