Simeon Rice Ring of Honor Ceremony | Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Simeon had established himself as a premier edge rusher in the NFL and played a big part in delivering our first Super Bowl championship. Over an incredible 12-year NFL career, Semime finished with 122 career sacks, a mark that placed him among the top 20 in the league at that time. He spent more than a decade in the league as the top edge rusher, as one of the top edge rushers, and here in Tampa Bay and in the NFL is undeniable. Today, as we induct him into the Buccaneers Ring of Honor, Simeon takes his place among the greatest Buccaneers of all time. Ladies and gentlemen, please turn your attention to the east side of the stadium above the pirate ship as we unveil the 16th member of the Buccaneers Ring of Honor, Simeon Rice. Congratulations, Simeon. Please approach the podium so that Coach John Gruden can present you with your Ring of Honor jacket. Coach Gruden. Tampa Bay, let me hear you. On this 50th anniversary of the franchise, we stand in a moment bigger than football, bigger than legacy. I stand here as a man built by faith, shaped by struggle, and crowned by this city. And before anything else, we earned this together. First, I thank God for strength and for protection and for purpose. To my parents, Henry and Evelyn Rice, rest in peace. You are my armor, my foundation, and I carry every moment of my life with you. To my brother, may your soul rest in peace. You are my armor as well and my guidance, my fire, my sparring partner, and my guide. And everything I am, I became is because of you. To my four little sisters, thank you for grounding me with love. You kept me a big brother and inspired. Chicago Rosland, where toughness wasn’t taught, it was required. Mount Carmel, 1991 state champs, where I learned the winning ways and feels like a champion and sacrifice and brotherhood. The mindset of a champion. Always we are MC. University Illinois. Forever repping the YG’s where I refined my edge. Became the Big 10’s all-time sack leader and prepared me for dominance in the NFL. In the league, I delivered. 122 sacks, 28 force fumbles, impact disruption, and a body of work that speaks for a lifetime. To the Glazer family and Tampa Bay Buccaneers, thank you for letting me etch my name into the 50-year legacy. To Sap, Brooks, Lynch, Barber, we weren’t just a defense. We were the standard, a blueprint still studied today. To every teammate who ever wore pewer and red, we turned belief into history and delivered the first Super Bowl in franchise history. To the Tampa Bay fans, your roar fueled me. Your passion made me family. To the love of my body, PBI, thank you for being the calm. To my son, Jordan, I always wanted to make you proud. And to my little baby, James, you remind me that greatness begins with a spark in a child’s heart. To my nephews and nieces, listen close. I am proud of you and you could be anything you put your mind to. When life rises, when hit back, when when fear whispers, defy it. When your dream feels distant, run towards it. Greatness begins with relentless. And legacy begins to the to the unbreakable. To today, I am humbled. Today, I’m honored and I am forever a Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Thank you, Tampa Bay.
