Edmonton Oilers: DON’T BE FOOLED

Hey friends, this is Dolan TV. Glad to have you aboard here this morning as we get set up for today’s edition. Following the Oilers 4 nothing win over top of the Seattle Kraken in a game in which Stuart Skinner looks pretty good and things look pretty good for the Oilers overall. The question is now where does this path lead us? As we know all too often what happens when the Oilers have a good game following a bad game? It only delays the process farther. So, we’ll stay tuned for that. Of course, if you are new to the channel here on Dolan TV, I’d encourage you right off the top to hit that subscribe button tonight. Would love to have you as a full-time viewer on the channel. Just crossed 18,400 of you along for this crazy ride that’s been the channel over the past 10 12 years now. So, appreciate that. All right, what do we know? Well, Steuart Skinner 4 nothing shut out over the Seattle Kraken. 26 saves and a game in which he looks really really good all of a sudden following a game in which he well looked really really bad for the uh Edmonton Oilers. And what we know is following that Dallas game as well, things got very heated discussing the goalender, discussing the goalending and discussing of course possible trades that could be made. It started with Bennington. transitioned into Jarry very quickly and then all of a sudden the heat kind of ramped up over the past few days and now well it seems like Elliot Freriedman this morning pulled cold water out of the closet and poured it on the situation saying the Oilers are going to have to maybe h just stamp pat a little bit as they’re not interested in making the lateral move. Now that is not necessarily where the conversation topic comes from today. more so the fact that this is just classic Edmonton Oilers. Punt and wait for something worse to happen. Punt and wait for things to get better. And that’s again what it feels like will likely be the move here. I know we got really excited about a possible Jarry move, but it just feels like the Oilers, as soon as anything of redeeming quality happens for the team, they like to sit back and wait a bit more. And that’s been Oilers time eternals as long as I’ve been covering them here on YouTube. So, you know, I I don’t know necessarily if things are going to get better or worse for the Oilers, but as long as the results keep being mediocre or at least slightly better than they should be given the situation that everybody says is the goalending defense and the give a damn this team has this year. Well, you know, it’s just going to delay the process of doing the changes that many feel are necessary. And I think, right, Stuart Skinner has to be upgraded on. I would go out there and say Steuart Skinner has to be upgraded on, but he also has to remain a part of the Edmonton Oilers just to have that security blanket. I think everybody’s always criticized me quite heavily for not giving Calvin Pickard his flowers for how good of a goalender he’s been for the Evon Oilers. I will say you look at Pickard’s track record across the NHL and his career so far. He’s not necessarily in over his head here trying to make sure the Oilers get to backto backto back Stanley Cup finals, but he’s a guy that I I just have always felt eventually the luck is going to run out. And then whether it be this year or the situation in front of him is so bad that it’s just detrimental to his play, I I don’t really care because I think at the end of the day, I think the Oilers would be better served by keeping Steuart Skinner around despite upgrading the goalending. And then as well going from there and getting a situation where you know you have a guy who can start the playoff games for you. Stew can come in and give you a relief spot kind of like Pickard has been and then you should be good to go in the playoffs this year. Again, anything better than Stew and picks, I think this Edmonton Oilers team wins the Stanley Cup this year. I think we’ve all seen this track record the past two years, October, November, most of December doesn’t mean a dang thing for this hockey team and you just go out there and start dummying it in the new year. So, I guess to say is it it’s it’s one of those situations where I hope that the process of getting to that kind of January, February winning streak isn’t delayed because of wins in a November after bad games the game prior. And that’s like I said kind of the Oilers whole thing, right? We had the whole report there the other day that everybody stood up for picks and said he’s got to stay and we want him to stay. So again, either the situation’s got to get way better, which I think we have three years now or parts of three years that say it’s just not going to get better as time goes on for the Edmonton Oilers in the goalending department. I don’t care if the defense fixes itself. It’s not going to fix, you know, the situation that is the Oilers don’t necessarily have superstar goalending whether the defense is great or not. And as great as the defense can be, you’re only one mistake from the defense away from not winning a Stanley Cup as we saw in 2024 as that really still hurts that that puck goes off of Kulak and into the back of the net. So at the end of the day, I think uh it’s it’s situation where the Oilers can’t be tainted by good results. They have to look at the bad. They have to look at the situation that has been this year, last year, and the previous year and say, “Look, we get good goalending sometimes, but sometimes isn’t good enough to win a Stanley Cup, and we have to make sure we find somebody out there quicker rather than later that’s going to change our outcomes now.” So, that’s easier said than done. And I think again to Elliot Freeman’s point there earlier, the Oilers obviously recognize not making a lateral move would be to their benefit. But I would say as I did the other day, anything’s better than what we’ve got right now simply because even if it is just a fresh start for a new goalender in Edmonton and it takes a few more months for somebody, anybody everybody to get on that goalie’s back and be yelling for him to be shipped out of town, it’s great. And again, I would caution Connor Ingram is not that guy. I will guarantee you Connor Ingram is not that guy. At least not yet. And we’ll see kind of what’s happening there. There’s been an injury to him. At least maybe short term hopefully in the Miners down there in Bakersfield. So stay tuned. I know it was also their teddy bear toss night there. Just want to make sure I mention that because that’s one of my favorite videos to watch every single year is the Bakersfield Condors teddy bear toss. But yeah, that’s just kind of where we’re at right now, friends, is the goalending. Like I’m saying, just please stand, please, Jeff, don’t be tainted by the situation that was last night, a four nothing win over top of the Seattle Kraken. We still got to upgrade the goalending. I know we love to cheer for our guys when they win, but I know as soon as Steu goes out and loses the next game, it’ll be twofold the hate than it is the cheers. And I’m a little bit sick and tired of that from doing this whole thing. So, it would be nice to see the Oilers go out there and do something with the goalending sooner rather than later. I think that’s the whole premise of the video. And I think that’s all it really comes down to at the end of the day is just get it done. I don’t care what the results say. The Oilers could be, you know, by the end of December in in a five plus six or seven kind of wins over losses situation and looking really good in second or third in the Pacific Division and starting to heat up still. I need a goalending improvement because end of the day is just not going to change the playoff results if you don’t change the goalending. The defense, like I said, just one mistake away from screwing up a whole good effort through, you know, 20 plus playoff games into the cup final. Friends, for right now though, I am up on out of here. Have a great rest of your Sunday. I will catch you if there’s any breaking news tonight or later tomorrow as we get through the workday. Right now, we’ll see you later.

The Edmonton Oilers won against the Seattle Kraken, but despite that the organization can’t be fooled into thinking goaltending doesn’t need to be taken care of NOW!

  1. Am I the only one here who realizes they played a better defensive game in front of Skinner, hence making it easier on him, hence him getting the shut-out and the win!? The issue isn't Skinner it's the play in front of him. As long as they keep showing up and buying in defensively he won't have as bad of game like the ones against Colorado/Dallas. They go out and exchange Jarry for Skinner, I think that's flat out crazy because Jarry will turn out to be shit long-term and Skinner will flourish wherever he goes and that will be another bone-headed move by the Oilers Organization. Elliot Friedman said that they're not looking to make a lateral move just to make one which is good to hear!! Bottom line is they play better defensively the goals against go down, and your goals and wins go up!!!

  2. I get your point but when Skinner stinks he really stinks. He lets in really easy shots and it's upsetting. Yeah he does good sometimes but I think those are just lucky games.. I know the defense lets him down a lot but I don't know what games you be watching. He lets in a lot of ridiculous goals..

  3. I'm done watching the oilers, the "no move" move after this past track record this week with goaltending and everything else. Just shows me management will never get it together or know what their doing. Their just wasting leon and mcdavids prime and im over this, if stu had any kahoneys he'd ask for a trade for the dake of his teammates.

  4. You'd have to be blind and deaf to ignore the fact we know McDavid gave the team 2 year franchise friendly deal expecting a huge upgrade in net. This is non-negotiable. Mgmt better get cracking.

  5. We can't me make a trade for convience IT HAS TO WORK IN THE TEAMS FAVOUR ..at moment idd be happy ta make the playoffs 1st or 2 nd round AND TOTAL REBUILD IN THE OFF SEASON for 3rd and 4th line WITH plenty of cap space

  6. The game yesterday was a team effort and if they come out playing like this every game it will help out the goaltending issues. Hopefully they keep this up as a team 🙏
