Hey all, Anthony DiComo here, Mets beat writer for MLB.com. I'll be hosting an AMA at 10:15 am ET Monday to answer all the Mets (or other) questions you might have!

I've been covering baseball for MLB.com since 2007 and the Mets full-time since 2010. I'm a longtime Astoria, Queens resident and a graduate of Boston University. Ask me anything!

  1. With all the recent negative press about the Mets’ clubhouse dynamics, lack of leadership, and staff turnover, do you think that this narrative will turn off free agents? Especially compared to last year, when the Mets were framed very positively in the media- as a first class, family-friendly, welcoming org

  2. Have the Mets reached out to FAs Kyle Tucker and Cody Bellinger? Has there been any notable progress in the Free Agent market?

  3. Hi Tony, second time, long time. First off, thank you for responding to my shitpost about Soto last time you stopped by.

My actual serious question this go-around: Ignoring the “report” of the locker room drama that came out last week, what are the priorities in righting the ship this offseason? There are so many holes that presented themselves during the nosedive last season, with even more potentially looming if Alonso chooses to sign elsewhere. Is the FO trying to address everything this winter, or is there more a feeling of this is going to be a multi-year build that can’t be fixed in one offseason?

  4. Any truth regarding the club house situation? Would love to know if there’s any truth to it or it’s blown out of proportion

  5. After seeing how great the team chemistry was in 2024 then seeing how different it was in 2025 especially with another McNeil/Lindor argument. Do you see the Mets adding more veteran clubhouse guys in 2026 ?

  6. With Nimmo jettisoned to TX, who is the one player in the last ten years that the Mets let go you miss the most?

  7. Hi Anthony.. thanks for this.

Beyond the consulting type answers we may get from Mets PR about ‘collaborative process’ or ‘stakeholder engagement’ or ‘input’… I ask what really happened with the hiring of the new staff? Specifically…

-How much direct say did Mendy have in nominating the candidates for his own coaching staff?

-Does he have close pre-existing relationships with all/any of his staff?

-lastly, from your conversations, do people around the team / on the team / in the organization, sense that Mendy is perceived to be on the hot seat ?

  8. You are in the clubhouse often, did you witness any incidents between McNeil and Lindor this past season? Is the animosity between them really that bad, or is it overblown?

  9. Do the Mets view Vientos as an option at 1st base if Alonso signs elsewhere? Curious to see if they are confident enough in his bat to have him play subpar defense at 1st.

  10. Just curious, but is this gonna be a clean house off season, or is Nimmo the only main core piece moving via trade?

Also, if you had to put a percentage, what would it be at for Pete to come back?

Also, speaking of Nimmo, he was my favorite and now I need an updated jersey for the team. Anyone you would recommended? I was thinking Peterson, or Alvarez but curious who you would get that isn’t one of the standard ones.

  11. Were you surprised by the Nimmo trade? (Referring more to the Mets being able to find a team that would take on the contract + Nimmo waving the ntc)

  12. As someone around the team, do you think there are deeper clubhouse issues with the club? Coming off of the Nimmo trade and now the Puma article, I’m starting to really question this group and if there’s an issue in the clubhouse

  13. Any inside info on what new food may be coming to Citifield next year? What would you like to see them add or subtract from current concessions? Also Pete Alonso, Edwin Diaz, Lindor, etc, etc

  14. What are you hearing about the Edwin Diaz market? From your perspective, do you think other teams might shy away from offering him a big contract given the Mets will likely just match whatever dollars he can get on the open market?

  15. 1. Do you expect the Mets to use the trade market over FAs to upgrade pitching more this year?

    2. Lots of people have speculated about clubhouse issues among the players. But looking beyond that, how have your interactions with players been? Specifically Lindor and Soto

    3. Did/does language play a role in the specific hires for coaching? On our previous staff I think only Mendy spoke Spanish. On our new staff him, Correa, Albert, Snitker, Arencibia and Gomez all speak fluent or conversational Spanish. I was wondering if this had to do with improving language barriers that may have existed with our younger players and coaching.

  16. If you had to name one surprise move the Mets make, whether it’s who they sign or trade for/away, what player would it be?

  17. Are there any players (stars or depth) that are not on the Mets, but that you think would be a great addition to the team in 2026?9

  18. Obviously the team wants Alonso back at a number they’re comfortable with, but after seeing how Bryce Harper transitioned away from the OF, has consideration been given to converting Soto to 1B once he reaches his early 30s as a way to keep him in the field while upgrading the OF defense?

  19. Hi Anthony, I have two questions.

    1) Do you see the Mets trying to make a move for a top-tier starter in the offseason or do you think they feel more comfortable with what they have in house?

    2) I was curious what you think about the field of competition in the NL East in 2026, and whether the Mets need to worry about their contending window start to slide closed with their current core.

  20. How important ( or unimportant) do you view the coaching staff to be? This team got rid of every coach except Mendoza…..what do you think the impact will be if any?

  21. Hi Anthony, thank you very much for your reporting!

My question is regarding trade value. Do you have insight into how clubs value current major league players like Vientos who haven’t quite found their stride yet? Are those types of players less enticing than yet-to-be mlb proven players in the minors such as Ewing or Jett?

When trade packages are being constructed, would they be more likely to look at current mlb players or take a gamble on finishing the development of someone on the farm?

    Thanks again for your time.

  22. Hi Anthony,

How much longer do you expect the Mets to maintain the current negative profit payroll?

for context, I recall Cohen saying it was a temporary thing while the farm caught up and I feel like the year we got burned going all in with short term contracts that Scherzer/Verlander year, and now that the farm is caught up I’m wondering if the big ticket free agents we go after will be more Soto LT foundational pieces, not guys to put us over the edge.

  23. I always enjoy your reporting and loved your book The Captain.
Do you think the Mets are interested in/ have a real shot at Michael King?

  24. How many hours a week during the season are you interviewing folks in the organization?

  25. Who is a target free agent that no one is talking about that the Mets may persue?

  26. Hi Anthony,

I was wondering how much grilling was allowed by the Mets/MLB? I know you work for MLB, so there may be further guidelines than if you worked for a paper, blogsite, etc. Is there a certain amount you’re allowed to push? Do you ever feel you’ve pushed on a player/manager/GM too hard?

Thanks and love the work you do (even if your game end tweets sometimes spoil it by a second)!
