Cubs rumored to make this HUGE trade!!!

Chicago Cub fans, listen. I’ve already done one video talking about the Chicago Cubs potential for trading for Joe Ryan from the Minnesota Twins, but listen, Jeff Passin broke the news. We got another trade the Chicago Cubs could potentially be after this off season. I want to talk about it and then some right after this. Chicago Cubs Central fam, what’s going on? It’s your boy Mike Jones back again with another episode of What is this? Chicago Cubs Central. This is your number one spot for all things Chicago Cubs. Listen man, I appreciate you guys so much for tuning in. Hope you guys are enjoying the offseason content that I’ve been laying out for you guys, the videos, hyping up these potential trades, these potential moves, the potential free agent signings that the Chicago Cubs could be coming across here sooner rather than later. Now listen, Thanksgiving week is usually always quiet. The biggest boom happened when Dylan C signed with the with the Toronto Blue Jays, which you did a video about that. And then we did a realization video on Friday where we just talk real talk talking about what the Chicago Cubs have to do and what Chicago Cub fans have to realize about this team and its owner. basically saying that we are not I do not believe we are going to do much in free agency if starting pitching is all starting pitchers are wanting deferred contract deals. Chicago Cubs are not putting themselves in that maneuver. Now again, I could absolutely be wrong about that, but every sign that we’ve seen and everything that we’ve heard from inside sources all lead to the fact that the Chicago Cubs probably will not be signing some bigname free agent to some contract that’s deferred. Now, if that free agent will take three to four to five years of a regular deal where they just pay it out and play it out for the Chicago Cubs, that’s one thing. They did it with Danny Swanson. They absolutely would probably do it again. However, if and this is a big if, if they want a deferred contract, it’s probably not going to happen here in Chicago. So, Chicago Cub fans, I am going to talk about some deals that could be done here over the next couple of weeks. I do want to mention Kyle Schwarber. The money the money for Kyle Schwabber is looking pretty nice. It’s looking like something the Chicago Cubs can handle. I want to do a video about him again and kind of look look deep more and look deeper into it now that we know more of what Kyle Schwabber is looking at for a contract deal. But I need to know from you guys what who you want me to talk about. Who do you guys think the Chicago Cubs should absolutely be looking after or looking out for? Um again, I appreciate you guys for tuning in. Make sure that you guys like, share, and subscribe so that you guys don’t miss a single second of Chicago Cub Central. And every single time a new video drops, make sure that you guys tune in. You don’t want to miss it. And join in on the conversation afterwards and let me know your thoughts. Now, so guys, Byron Buckton is his name, and he just had perhaps the best foolish season of his career. So, listen, the Chicago the uh Minnesota Twins could absolutely look to try to capitalize off of that while they can and trade him. What could this mean for the Cubs? It means that the Cubs have an elite upside veteran production. Does have a little bit of an injury history and cost, but he is somebody that could immediately come in and either play right field for you, which there could potentially be a hole out there, which he would be a defensive upgrade from say Suzuki, as well as this man was a 35 home run hitter. That’s right. 2025 was arguably Bus Buckston’s best season in a long time. He played 126 games. He amassed two a 264 batting average, 35 home runs, 21 doubles, seven triples, 83 RBI’s, 24 stolen bases, and reportedly never got caught stealing. Listen, he scored 97 runs in that season last year for the Minnesota Twins. was a huge part of any success that they had, which it wasn’t much because he wasn’t getting much help around him, but again, he was somebody that was highly regarded. So, if Minnesota is looking to make some trades, to make some deals, to start a rebuild, trading Buckston could be a huge part of what they’re looking to do. And they’re looking to get younger. They’re looking to give some guys some pieces, some chances that they may not get on veteran clubs or clubs that’s trying to win. And now again, you put somebody like Buckston on the Chicago Cubs, his slugging percentage jumped in 2025. His OPS was around 878, which is elite, guys. According to the war estimations, he posted a 4.9 war in 2025, matching one of his best prior seasons in Raw War output, notably. And he did it in fewer games. So again, you just saw the production was all over the map for this young man. Uh he had he had multiple multih home run games. Uh and he showed his power surge often throughout the season. He also earned his second All-Star nod in 2025. So this guy’s coming off of an all-star season. Listen, Buckston just wasn’t back to being healthy. He was healthy enough to perform at an elite level, at a star caliber level. So, he’s somebody that the Chicago Cubs absolutely should have on their radar. And Jeff Pass mentions that he is on the Chicago Cubs radar. Now, historically, health has been in the wild card for Bucks. The 2025 season is a big outlier in a positive way for him. Prior to 2025, he rarely played a full season since his 140 game season in 2017. After that, he suddenly cracked 100 games. In 2025, he missed relatively little time compared to that. Though, he did do a short IIL stint with the concussion early in the year where he missed about 11 games. Then later on, he had a rib cage issue that caused a short stint on the IIL, which we’re not worried about short time. it. You can’t go months without playing. Outside of those hiccups, guys, he stayed healthy most mostly through the year, which for him is a major win. Now, that raises the tentacles question. Could 2025 be the new normal for Buckton’s health? If so, his upside become significantly more attractive and is something that the Chicago Cubs could potentially want to take a swing at. Now, given the resources and the fact that the 2025 season proves that Buckston still has star level talent, his trade value is very high. Understand this. If the Twins are seriously rebuilding, especially if they are likely to trade him and Joe Ryan or Pablo Lopez or Pablo Torres, I’m sorry, not Pablo Torres, Pablo Lopez. They’ll likely ask for younger controllable players with high or high upside prospects in return. So, you’re talking about your Kevin Alcantress, you’re talking about your uh your Owen KC’s, you’re talking about guys like that that you’re going to have to trade in order to get somebody like Buckton. Now remember, specifically, they might look for a package that includes a top or top or near top prospect or two, maybe a promising MLB ready arm or two, or a possibility of a costcontrolled outfielder or utility bat to help rebuild their core with more youth and flexibility. So again, you’re looking at the younger guys potentially being traded, your AAA guys or your guys that are fringe MLB guys ready to go on any other MLB squad. But because there’s a log jam in the outfield, a lot of these guys aren’t seeing time. That makes Kevin Alcantra a a high candidate. That makes, you know, Owen Casey a high candidate. That makes somebody like Matt Shaw a high candidate. These guys are guys that the Chicago Cubs could absolutely and if they’re going to look to make trades to better their roster. You guys have to start preparing yourselves. Some of these guys are getting traded. Some of these guys are getting tra and I’m not just talking about one. I’m talking about multiple. Multiple of these guys are getting traded. It’s happening. That’s the only way we’re going to get better because they ain’t signing no free agents. They’re going to strike out in free agency because they’re not willing to do deferred contracts. So, you’re going to have to then turn to the trade market if you’re really going to get better. And for the Chicago Cubs, it’s going to be important that they get better so that they can succeed. So, with that being said, you look at somebody like Buckton um who is 31 and has a longer track record of injuries, the Twins might push for depth plus upside rather than a one for one value. Uh meaning that they want multiple pieces, not just a big name swap. So, you can’t just say, “Okay, we’re going to give you somebody like Matt Shaw.” It might end up being like you got to trade them Jackson Wiggins and you and and you might have to trade them Kevin Alcantra. You might have to go ahead and trade two pieces for the one. And you ask yourself, is Buckston worth it? Well, if it’s the 2025 season you’re looking at, I’d say he’s worth it. I’d say he’s worth it. Especially if you know you got you got Say a Suzuki who’s going to DH for you. If you know that he that like I said that Owen Casey is still not going to see any time out there in right field. If he’s not going to see any time out there in right field, if you primarily going to have Ian Hap over in left field, if you know these things, then you understand and know there ain’t no spot for him. So if there’s no spot for him, what is the sense of holding on to him? If you’re trying to win now, if you’re trying to capitalize now, if you think the division, if you think that that the championship, if you think that you can make it to the World Series with the pieces that you add, why are you holding on to him? So, in my eyesight, it looks like it’s one of those situations where the Chicago Cubs are going to have to make some very, very tough choices here. So, the question then lies, could the Chicago Cubs be willing to do that? So, what hypothetical trade and what would it cost um for for the Chicago Cubs to make a deal like this? So, if Casey refers to a top Cubs prospect or something like that, the Cubs would have to ask themselves, is Buckton’s 2025 upside worth giving up multiple young assets or a top tier prospect? The pros for the Cubs is an instant boost in the lineup. Buckston brings power, speed, center field and right field and left field um defense, offensive spark, a legitimate everyday star and a possible appeal to the fans. Now, the risk risk of aggression or injury. I mean, like I said, Chicago Cubs, if you really want to look at it, he I mean, Chicago Cubs last year halfway struck out with with um with with Kyle Tucker last year just simply because he couldn’t stay healthy. He couldn’t stay healthy and that cost the Chicago Cubs. Also, you risk depleting your farm system, which might end up being painful long term. Realistically, a trade for Buckton would cost a lot. The Cubs will likely have to part way with a top three to top 10 prospect, maybe a plus and maybe plus a MLB ready pitcher or two, especially if the Twins demand a package rather than a single player swap. So, my thought to you guys, look at Buckton’s numbers, look at what he did, go watch his highlights, and then come back and I want you guys to reply to this video. Is 2025 a fluke or the start of a healthier second act for Buckston? That’s a big gamble. Does ownership and the front office buy in outweigh risk of injuries if the Cubs window is now or should they be building toward 2027 or 2028 and what sort of package could the Cubs realistically land buckton with? So I want you guys to comment below. Let me know your thoughts on the situation. Honestly, for me, if Bucks is healthy, it’s worth a look. Ask it. Just asking Minnesota what would they want in a trade? You already have a potential trade with Joe R for Joe Ryan. Would you also maybe want to sweeten that deal and see what we what you could get for Buckston also and maybe add both of them, send both of them to Chicago or maybe do two potential to do two different to potential trades. Whatever the case may be, the Chicago Cubs have to look to the trade market in order to get better, to stay competitive in the National League Central Division and in the National League as a whole because these teams are going to get better and the Dodgers ain’t going nowhere. So, the Chicago Cubs have to make some decisions here. They’re going to have to trade some pieces that we may not want to see them part with, but it’s all for the good of the Chicago Cubs being successful. We’ll see what happens, man. Comment below. Let me know your thoughts. Make sure you like, share, and subscribe if this is your first time watching. I appreciate you guys. so much. Thank you. Until next time, go Cubs go. Peace.
