HOT STOVE HEATS: Astros Winter Meetings TARGET Jake Myers, Yainer Diaz—Who Will Get DEALT?

Houston Astros face a pivotal offseason as the MLB Winter Meetings approach, with Jake Myers and Yainer Diaz emerging as top trade chips. Will General Manager Dana Brown cash in, or will the Astros chase big-name free agents like Michael King or international arms such as Ryan Weiss to bolster the rotation? The free agent landscape heats up amid rumors of Framber Valdez’s potential $200 million move to the Mets, raising the stakes in a competitive market and forcing Houston toward creative solutions.

Eric Huysman and Brett Chancey break down the team’s options, debating the value of Bryce Matthews, Jake Myers, and Jesus Sanchez in possible packages for sought-after targets like Brendan Donovan and Jeff McNeil. The conversation zeroes in on Houston’s roster needs: left-handed hitting, rotation depth, and bullpen reinforcements. With limited farm system assets and mounting pressure from fans, can the Astros swing the deals required to contend in the AL West?

  1. So Brett I don’t know if you have Vivint but I do and I think it’s your phone that goes off with Vivint notifications? Just wanted to let you know. Since it can get confusing for viewers who have Vivint

  2. I don't think Jim Crane is spending for 2026. With a lockout assured, he's going to lose substantial money in ticket and concession sales. This is revenue he cannot make up by raising the price of beer and hotdogs.

If the Astros are lucky, Brown will find a couple of mediocre pitchers off of waivers or DFA, and at best with ERAs of 4.9. He may find a left bat hitting .238, but as far as spending any real money? No. Unless these hitting coaches can get some plate discipline instilled, this is going to be a third place team in the division.

I really, really hope I have to eat my words here. Winter meetings will tell a lot.

  3. I don't see them trading Yainer right now, he is too important to the 26 roster with upside. Matthews should definitely be expendable with trade value.

  4. If Catcher Cal Raleigh a .200 Hitter can have a breakout year.

Yainer Diaz if he can have a disciplined approach at the plate and take walks. He can hit .270 30 Hr, 100 RBIs.

  5. Cristian Javier hasn't lived up to his contract.

Lance McCullers contract is so unmovable in a trade.

Jake Myers and Jesus Sanchez could be moved for Pitchers.
