Pete Carroll and Geno Smith Postgame Presser – 11.30.25 | Week 13

You guys had some momentum going into the half, tied the game up, uh, and then they had a big third quarter. Why do you think the team wasn’t able to sustain the momentum they carried into the half? Yeah, we we really at halftime, we felt like this was was a game we were going to go ahead and go get after and take it, you know, and uh, everybody felt really good about it, the things that we had done in the first half and all. And, uh, you know, we knew we’re kicking the ball to them. They got they get it first. We got to get off the field and get going. And there’s the big toss play, you know, we just screwed it up and missed. I think we had three guys there that could make the play and it winds up being a 60-yard touchdown play. You know, that was a backbreaking play in the game and uh and then we we needed to respond and we didn’t we didn’t have it to respond and so uh they get out by a couple scores and that then falls into their hands. They know how to play with a lead like that and they did a nice job. Third down was atrocious for us today on both sides of the football. You know, we couldn’t we couldn’t convert and we couldn’t stop them to get out of there. some of those third and shorts, you know, we got that’s been a little bit of a theme throughout the year. Third and twos and threes right in there. Ones and twos and threes and uh so third down was a big factor and uh they they they did a nice job of finishing the game. They they took control of it. 193 yards on on the ground table, but from from your vantage point was an issue. Well, I halftime they were averaging two yards, two points something a carry, you know, and so we did not think that was the issue. That’s what I’m saying. the toss breaks out for 59 or 60 or whatever and that changes that changes the complexion of the stats if nothing else and uh then they’re ahead so they get to run the ball to finish the game in the fourth quarter. That’s that’s kind of how that happens. So um they did a nice job of doing that and and we didn’t stop enough. Pete just wanted you alternated between Caleb Ro throughout the game. Just what was the reason behind the alteration between two guards? cuz that’s about where it came out competing wise, you know, in practice and know that they both deserve to have a shot. So, we want we want to get them on film and see, you know, see what we can find out. Really anxious to see what that looks like, you know, get get back to it. With everything surrounding our offense this week, how difficult was it to get anything going on the time possession was as lopsided as it was. Yeah. Well, you got to remember how the game went. You know, it was uh we had two huge drives in the first half and one of them we we we we didn’t stop them. One of them we get the big turnover. It’s a great job by our guys hanging uh on defense and we had a nice sudden change when when they we go out on on defense and we stop them on fourth down those those are big stops with but they had a lot of plays on us you know and so um you know they they were able to drive the ball and that goes all the way back to where we started goes back to third down you got go sit down you know and we didn’t get off the field long enough but um let’s let’s just I’m not sure if you mentioned this but you know offensively to have an expectation that we’re going to flip-flop and all a sudden be ripping you know would like to have seen that but that didn’t happened and it’s it’s we’re a ways away. Everybody communicated really well. Um we have no problem functioning and all that and uh you know in a couple days times that’s that’s a nice accomplishment by those guys but we’ll get a lot better. during the course of your career, how you the seeds for your future success were kind of planted in that first year regardless of how you did you know you go back to USC like Chris Rishard play at UFA Mubar like are there moments this season where you see the seeds of future success whether it’s Brock Bowers I mean like in a season like this do you see those seeds planted for future success? Absolutely. Yeah. And that’s why it’s so hard to take that we’re not we’re not able to enjoy the the hard work and the and the changes and the adjustments that we’ve made because it’s very similar. You know, you’re talking and you know, you watched it. Um it’s very similar to how we’re responding together, the way we work, uh the attitude and the mentality, guys supporting one another. All of that is is what it takes to turn the corner and get around. There was a game a few weeks ago. We’re two and five. I talking about the SC two and five. You know, same thing. we were in the same place at one point and we didn’t get that game, you know, but that was a time to to to turn it and so it just hasn’t happened yet and it’s it feels like it’s just right there within our reach, you know, and so maybe it doesn’t look like that to you guys, but that’s what it feels like. And I I can say that because of the mentality of the guys in in the locker room and they they continue to lead well, they continue to hang well, they continue to practice well and respond to the challenges of it. So, um that part of it that part of it is okay, we have to play better. Okay, more guys. Good. Thank you. Appreciate it. I thought Oie did a, you know, a tremendous job at, you know, with a week’s notice of getting guys prepared, you know, putting together a game plan. You know, no one knows how hard it is to step into that role when you, you know, you you haven’t been all season. um to have to speak new terminology um to try to get players involved in the game. You know, things that obviously he’s done before, but um I thought he did a great job and um you know, I’m really appreciative of coach Oie for that. Gino, uh you had a a good drive at the right before the end of the half and a good drive in the beginning of the fourth quarter. What do you think went right on those drives and uh why not able to sustain it a little more consistently throughout the entire game? Uh you know, we all just got to play better. Um, I got to play a lot better. You know, I got to be better for the guys. Um, that’s really it. You know, we got to be more consistent. I got to be more consistent down in, down, out. Was there is there any uh, you know, spot in your past career that has prepared you? Uh, you know, every every week is a new experience. Every year is a new experience and, uh, the past is the past. I’m focused on, you know, getting better right now and, uh, ways we can improve. helps us Brock Bowers and how good is uh Brock Browers is tremendous player. Um we see it week in and week out. Uh he makes plays all over the field. He does things uh not many guys can do and uh we got to continue to find ways to get him, you know, in space and get him the ball. But uh he’s a great player. What do you think, uh are the positives to build upon? You know, in particular those two good drives you guys did have that you could take forward. Yeah, I think just got we all have to be more consistent. Um and it starts with me. I got to be a lot more consistent um and and do better for the guys. I got to find a way to put up more points, help our defense out, uh give us give us leads so those guys can play with the lead. Thank you

  1. Every other team with a new coach for the season is succeeding right now. I donโ€™t get why we can never just get it right ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™‚๏ธ

  2. This is too much. Watch 90% of the other teams in the NFL, THOSE are pro teams, we don't look like that. โ˜นโ˜นโ˜นโ˜น

  3. …Grandpa Pete, his nepo-baby o-line coach and Gina have turned the Raiders into a train wreck running into a dumpster fire. Fire Pete and his kid, cut Gina and treat the rest of the season like it is the 2026 pre-season. Start all the rookies, bench warmers and practice squad players and see if we have any talent on the roster not named Max, Bowers, Genty or Mayer…

  4. "Memo ๐Ÿ“ to Coach Carroll this @Raiders season is completely over, were playing for high draft pic, get all the rookies in the game and get Geno to practice squad asap."

  5. Obviously the Raider's problem was not the Offensive coordinator. Assistant coaches have to work with what they're given. The REAL problem was hiring a head coach who made the DUMBEST call in Super Bowl history. Carroll is an expert at snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. The Raiders need a coach that isn't senile.

  6. Geno has taken a beating. The guy gets sacked constantly and he keeps going out there knowing there are major inconsistencies in the o line. Good on him. Sorry the numbers don't reflect what the players put into the game.

  7. Pete just be honest you and your son and several other's on this team are doing a job, you donโ€™t have a love a commitment to excellence you donโ€™t bleed Silver and Black you are a sea duck at heart! Never a RAIDER! A RAIDER hater!

  8. … are press-conferences even necessary at-this-point? Let's just fulfill the basic obligations to play… then blow-every-thing-up once it is over… and pretend this travesty never happened.

  9. excuses excuses, same ๐Ÿ’ฉ different week. The only thing they gotta do is fire Pete so Gina could go with him and his sons.

  10. Problem starts at top with Mark Davis and trickles down……. Not players……. The whole Raiders front office is a mess with no goal or direction…… No playoff wins in more than 20 years… What an awful season and future looks dull.
