This hit leads to a scuffle, and points on an untimed down | Jacksonville Jaguars Vs Titans

All right, we had a bit of an altercation at the end of the Jaguars Titans game. So, let’s uh pause it right here to set the stage. You see that there is 1 second left in the half. Jaguars don’t really want to try for a field goal right here. They’re going to instead decide to see if they can just hit a Hail Mary with 1 second left. They’re up 12 points. Maybe they, you know, they feel okay about either decision probably in this spot. Lawrence is going to take the snap though here. The Titans send pressure gets home. I mean, this is probably not what Jacksonville expected. And here for Lawrence at this point, he’s going to say, “You know what? Let’s just throw the ball into the sideline and call it a day. You know, Hail Mary is probably not going to happen from here.” But when he does, you see he’s hit kind of late by Ardan Key. I’m going to show the other angle. I think this will show it a little bit better as to what exactly happens. So, I paused it right here. This is the first frame that the ball is leaving Lawrence’s hand. So, what this means is that for Ardan Key, he has two steps. That’s the rule. If you make contact before your second step, then it’s legal. If it’s after the second step, it is illegal. You also can’t hit the head or neck area. You see here, looks like it’s one step. I’m assuming they say he hit kind of the neck area for Lawrence. It is close. U it might have. It’s hard to say exactly from here. Ultimately, they decide to throw the flag here, which of course means that there is an untimed down. Not just that, but over here a little bit later on. So, this actually was like a good like 10 15 seconds after the play. There was uh you know a conversation that was had that ultimately you know uh things boiled over. Arden key grabs the face mask of a Jaguars player. It’s hard to make out what number that was right there. Um they did show the other angle and again they showed it kind of too late in the situation. Oh there’s the number. It’s Anton Harrison offensive lineman uh there who uh is getting into it. Um, so yeah, ultimately I don’t know exactly what caused it to happen, but they throw threw a flag only on uh, you know, once again once again only on Ardent Key of the Titans. Now, you can only accept one of those penalties, but that did result in a field goal and three points for Jacksonville on an untimed down. So yeah, uh either way, uh you know, costly penalty there for the Titans.

  1. I am not a fan of either team. Jacksonville and the refs were so soft here. The defenders arm brushes Lawrence's shoulder (not head or neck) as he is falling into the defenders path from the legal tackle. The defender held up and barely touched him. Ridiculous later also, 4 Jacksonville players aggressively confront 1 Titans player and only the Titans player gets the penalty. What a joke.

  2. I know tempers can flare up. It happens to everyone. In a game like this between conference rivals they're more likely. I don't know that officials should've flagged it.I'm not a fan of the "2 step" rule. Perhaps officials ought to try stopping within 2 steps while running fast. Then they'd know how difficult it is.
I know the offender wasn't thinking about counting his steps. He could've avoided contact by veering away but in the heat of the moment it wasn't on his list of things to do.
The altercation afterwards should've resulted in offsetting penalties.
Only those 2 guys know exactly what prompted their actions. They're pros. But even so, when something was said it set one of them off.
