Seattle Seahawks, Sam Darnold overpower Minnesota Vikings | Pro Football Talk | NFL on NBC

in no way, shape, or form uh can we play offensive football like that and try to and try to win at a place like this. We just did not uh you know have a type of an offensive performance that uh is ever going to be acceptable uh you know at the Minnesota Vikings organization and that obviously starts with me. Kevin O’ Conor after the Vikings were shut out 26 to nothing in Seattle and you know the organization had cautious optimism for back Max Brosman the undrafted rookie out of Minnesota by way of New Hampshire and he he did kind of a Carson Wentz thing like right out of the gates kind of thing. Yeah. I mean well he didn’t do it left-handed. That was the only difference. You’re right. Uh, but that was the moment that it’s like, “All right, we know.” And I I think that now it doesn’t mean Bromer has no shot to develop into anything in the NFL, but we were having this conversation last night in the viewing room. There’s a difference between what a guy does fourth down. Let’s say that, right? Yeah. And what is that? What is that? Yeah, but there’s a difference between what a guy does in practice in a controlled environment with a red shirt on and you’re out there and it’s a real game and everything and you can get hit and everything changes and you either have it or you don’t. And so he got his chance. All I was asking for is give the kid a chance. Let’s see what he can do. They supposedly really like him. Let’s see what he can do. And we saw it. Okay, next. Next. And he had his chance. It’s big boy football. Yeah, big boy football. The best play. And if you get a chance to play, we’re having the conversation yesterday about what Jimmy Johnson used to say. I want the guy who can walk in the room and sink the eight-ball. Like, this is it. This is your moment. Go. And that was And I don’t care that he’s never played before. This is it. This is your moment. You’re either going to show up or you’re going to shut up. Yeah. And he didn’t show up. And that’s it. And maybe another opportunity comes, but for now, sit down, bring JJ McCarthy back. Let’s see what they have the rest of the year with him. I believe they deeply regret how they handled the offseason quarterback situation that and as I surmised at the time there were divisions in the organization about what to do. Do we go all in with JJ McCarthy and backups or do we keep around a veteran either Sam Darnold, Daniel Jones? Do we bring in Aaron Rogers? Do we do we have McCarthy sit for another year? And I would like to think that the voices that were documented internally of we shouldn’t do this that those voices will have greater sway moving forward. And I think next year there will be. I don’t I don’t know, but I’ll be stunned if there isn’t a veteran presence there to compete with JJ McCarthy fair and square like Daniel Jones and Anthony Richardson in Indianapolis this year. Yeah. No, I you you know M. Jones, right? I I’ve thrown out uh Jameus Winston as a guy that I think could be I love Jamus, but man, I don’t know that I think I would have a heart attack during a game at some point during the season. I I listen I hear you. I hear you there. It it it’s not good, right? I mean, and this is to me it was a tough situation. We know for Mac Bro Max Brosmer. I mean, it’s it’s tough going up and playing in Seattle. I could sit there and tell you it’s one of the hardest places to play in all of football. And then you put that on top of whoa, their defense is freaky and they’re really good that way. Yeah, that that’s about as tough a situation as you can start your career. That play it smacks off. You know, we’ve all been there and I’ve been there more often than you have, surely where you’re trying to do something that you know you can’t do, but you do it anyway. You go beyond your physical abilities. And he got into his own head. He’s thinking, “Wait, it’s fourth down. Let me just throw it up.” He’s thinking probably the coach told him, “Don’t take bad sacks all week.” is all those things. But yeah, in that moment, okay, that was one where you just, yeah, it’s fourth down. Just you’re going to take the sack. You don’t just throw it to the other team and let them return. I mean, the game was three to nothing. Let’s not forget it’s three to nothing. The Viking defense was doing a really good job. You take the three points there, guy. This gets back to We’re going to have this next game, too. But yeah, I I don’t get it. But also, too, on top of this, Max Bromer, and I think this is too to me where teams misvaluate quarterbacks a little right now. Yeah, he went to the University of Minnesota. He played in a kind of a pro style offense. He showed the ability to do that, but at time but but for me, a guy like me, there was no point in my life that I ever thought he was a starting quarterback. Uh I questioned whether he was really even a backup quarterback. I always thought he was a third stringer. And I think there’s so many teams that fall in love with, oh, he he makes the right decision and oh, look what he did in college. He knows how to run an offense. It’s like, yeah, but does he have any talent when the guy’s open down the middle? Can he actually throw and hit him the ball? in in the NFL where the windows aren’t going to be as tight and all that. And I feel like Max Bromer is one of those guys that, you know, got a little misvaluated that way. It’s not Bromer. Bromer, it’s Mario Ta. Uh, but JJ McCarthy doesn’t have the accuracy either. Well, yes, he’s got his own issues. And that that one pitch arsenal of fast ball only. That’s a problem because it prevents you from layering the ball in the intermediate routes. That’s one of the reasons why the Vikings have been so successful in their passing game in recent years. They look they hey maybe maybe maybe they bring Kirk back to stabilize things for a year. Although it looks like the ship has sailed on his overall high-end physical abilities. But who knows? Maybe he just needs to be back in a place where he’s comfortable and he can do what he used to do. Regardless, they need to do something next year. Hi, it’s Mike Florio. 1. It's very apparent, KOC's offense requires a veteran QB to function. It has only consistently won games with a good to great veteran QB. Interestingly, the McVay offense needed an HOF veteran QB to win the SB. The "QB whisperer" label is a little fugazzi.

  2. I don't think the vikings have that much to worry about… their defense is rock solid, and the stats for this game between Brosner and Darnold were nearly identical… B 19 of 30, 126 yards… D 14 of 26 128 yards… Other than four interceptions and a few throws not even within ten yards of a receiver, B hung in there just fine… Let the yips settle down, and it's gonna be a tougher fight next time.

  3. O'Connell wants no "veteran presence" now. It ruins his reputation. The off season will see a Carson Wentz type guy there. A washed up mediocre player. KOC wants more time with this McCarthy kid. ANYONE can see McCarthy is incredibly immature…..the face paint nonsense, the alter ego 9, the goofy faces on the sidelines. Gimme a break. This kid is no NFL QB.

  4. Seattle’s defense hasn’t gotten the credit it deserves all year. I’d hate to run into them in the playoffs, they’re dangerous. Well coached, well disciplined, and they do what they need to do to take care of business.

Whether it’s the offense or defense – Seattle is loaded on both sides of the ball. They’re my sleeper NFC squad.

  5. why not get some points, 3 points, get them involved in the game. Coach was an idiot. Mike stop complaining about the offseason,
the Vikings were playing good defense just score some points.

  6. I've heard discussion of trading for Mac Jones. But jameis Winston and Kirk cousins hadn't occurred to me!
Jameis would be fun! 😂 That would be a fun way to win ~50% of our games.
If Kirk can get back to 80% of what he was here before, I'd take that. We wouldn't make the playoffs, but at least it would be watchable.

  7. Even if they had the GUY who could sink the eight ball, Oconnel would screw it up, NOT a competent coach, give last 5 to Brosmer we know who mcarthy is, and quit whining florio
