San Francisco 49ers shut down Browns in Shedeur’s second start | Pro Football Talk | NFL on NBC

MONDAY EDITION OF PFT LIVE. AND LOOK, I, I KNOW WE’RE NOT GOING TO GET TO EVERY GAME BUT DO YOU REALLY WANT US TO GET TO EVERY GAME AT THIS POINT OF THE SEASON? IS EVERY GAME WORTHY OF TALKING ABOUT I WOULD SAY, NO, HERE’S 1, THAT’S WORTHY OF SOME DISCUSSION. THE 49ERS GO TO CLEVELAND. THE WEATHER WAS A FACTOR, THE 49ERS, SHUT DOWN THE BROWNS, 26 TO 8 IN SHADUR SANDERS. BEEN THE FIRST MONDAY EDITION OF PFT LIVE. SHADUR SANDERS. SECOND START. AS A ROOKIE SINCE 1950. YEAH, DIDN’T WORK. RIGHT? BUT YOU HAVE SOME CONCERNS ABOUT THE WAY, THE BROWNS HANDLED SOME OF THE CIRCUMSTANCES IN THE GAME. WELL I THINK A LITTLE I MEAN FOR 1 IT’S A GOOD WIN FOR THE 49ERS, THIS SNEAKY GOOD 1 BECAUSE THAT’S SCARY PLAYING THERE IN THE ELEMENTS AGAINST THAT DEFENSE. YOU HEARD ME SAY COULD HAVE EASILY GONE THE OTHER WAY, RIGHT? YOU HEARD ME SAY THIS IS A GAME WHERE YOU DON’T TRY TO GO IN THERE AND BE IMPRESSIVE. YOU GO IN THERE AND GO. HEY WE JUST CAN’T LET THE BROWNS DEFENSE WIN THE FOOTBALL GAME, RIGHT? AND I THINK THAT’S WHERE I WAS REALLY IMPRESSED WITH SHANAHAN ON THE 49ERS AND BROCK PURTY BECAUSE HE DIDN’T TAKE ANY CHANCES, THEY PLAYED IT VERY CONSERVATIVE SPECIAL TEAMS MADE SOME PLAYS, WRITE THEIR DEFENSE MADE PLAYS, AND OF COURSE THEIR DEFENSE MADE SOME FOURTH DOWN STOPS. BUT THEY THEY HAD A BIG KICK RETURN THAT PUT THEM UP OR PUNT, RETURN THAT GAVE THEM THE BALL ON THE 16TH, 6. WE SAW THE BROWNS MUFFED, THE PUNT LATER IN THE FOOTBALL GAME. THAT GAVE THE 49ERS THEIR THEIR LAST UH TOUCHDOWN WITH JAWAN JENNINGS, TOUCHDOWN PASS. BUT HERE’S WHAT I JUST DON’T GET. ALL RIGHT? SO, SHEDEUR SANDERS, HE DID A FEW GOOD THINGS IN THE FOOTBALL GAME. DEFINITELY, THEY RAN THE BALL, OKAY? BUT YOU’RE DOWN 7, NOTHING AFTER A 6 PLAY, 16 YARD TOUCHDOWN DRIVE, IT TOOK THE 49ERS 6 PLAYS TO GO, 16 YARDS, IT WAS WORK. THEN BROWNS ANSWER AND DRIVE RIGHT DOWN THE FIELD AND GET A FOURTH AND 1 AND GO FOR IT FIRST OFF. YOU’RE THE BROWNS. YOU YOU PLAY DEFENSIVE FOOTBALL SO THAT WAS 1 PROBLEM WHERE I JUST LOOKED AT AND GO THAT WAS STUPID. ALL RIGHT. SO NOW THE BUT TO LATER IN THE GAME NOW. THEN BROWNS ANSWER AND DRIVE BUT LET’S GO. LET’S FAST YOU’VE SHOWN YOUR DEFENSE CAN SLOW DOWN BIRDIE AND MCAFFREY AND YOU’RE PLAYING GOOD FOOTBALL. THEY’RE THEY’RE 1 TOUCHDOWN PUNT RETURN. IT IS FORTH AND 1 ON YOUR OWN, 32 YARD LINE. AND THEY GO FOR IT. GO AND THE OF COURSE, WHAT DID THE 49ERS DO THEY GO DOWN ON THE 32 YARD DRIVE AND GO SCORE A TOUCHDOWN? THAT THAT TO ME WAS JUST INEXCUSABLE? I USUALLY BLAME PAUL BE DEPODESTA BUT HE’S COACHING THE CRAPPY ASS ROCKIES NOW AND HELPING THEM OUT. SO YOU KNOW, WHATEVER HE’S ANALYTIC, HE’S GOING TO ANALYTICALLY MESS WAS UP TO ME JUST UP TOO, LIKE HE’S MESSED UP. AND AT 10:00 THEY SAY GO AND GONNA ANALYTICALLY MESS THEM FOOTBALL GAME AND DO THAT. AND THEY BASICALLY WENT, HEY ACTUALLY, LET’S MAKE IT AN OFFENSIVE GAME AND SCREW OURSELVES OVER JUST A PITIFUL COACHING RIGHT THERE. YOU KNOW, MY POSITION, THE ISSUES IN CLEVELAND, GO ALL THE WAY UP TO OWNERSHIP AND UNTIL THERE’S A NEW OWNER, THE BROWNS IS THE BROWNS, AS A WISE MAN ONCE SAID, UH, SHOULDER SANDERS WILL START NEXT WEEK, WON AGAINST WEIRD AFTER HE WON AGAINST BALL. HEY, AND AT 10:00 THEY SAY GO AND AND IT’S SO WEIRD AFTER HE LOOK AT THE FILM. AND THEN THE NEXT DAY, THEY SAID HE WOULD START NOW, HE’S STARTING NEXT WEEK. AGAINST THE TITANS AND MYLES GARRETT ALSO HAD A SACK, HE’S GOT 19 ON THE YEAR, HE’S 4 AWAY FROM OWNING THE RECORD BY AND 5 GAMES LEFT. YEAH, I MEAN THAT’S WHAT’S AMAZING TOO. IS HE’S GOING TO HE’S GOING TO BREAK THE SACK RECORD ON A MOST TEAMS GO. HEY WE’RE JUST GOING TO RUN THE BALL AND BE CONSERVATIVE BECAUSE YOUR OFFENSE STINKS, WE’RE NOT EVEN GOING TO TAKE A CHANCE. THAT TO ME, IS WHAT’S AMAZING ABOUT THE WHOLE SITUATION, BUT THERE THEY ARE. I MEAN THE 49ERS SITTING AT 9 AND 4 BIG WIN FOR THEM ON THE ROAD, COLD BY THE LAKE

  1. Fucking Niners keep winning. Its a testament to Lynch and Kyle's roster building and schemes handling the unforseen hurdles life throws at situations. Amazing to watch as a bay area man who can't stand the SF teams

  2. Hey Purdy hater Simms, who made downfield throws against the wind? Who was pressured 58% of drop backs and sacked only once? You blame Sanders poor performance on the Coach, yet Sanders had 3 times the pocket time to throw than Purdy.

  3. Yeahbut yeahbut yeahbut Shedeur doesn't have the greatest receivers or the best line or the best coach or the best playcaller and the uniform color is ugly and the stadium is too small and the turf is too slick and they were giving him balls that were too slippery. Give him that and BEST QUARTERBACK EVERS!!!!!!!!?! NO KEEPING THAT PROUD SON OF DEION DOWN!!!!!!!

  4. Purdy was 7/9 on 3rd downs for 5 first downs and 1 TD. The 49ers keep making plays when they need to. Honestly, love the continued hate and excuses. No one wants to see an 11-6 or 12-5 49ers team in the playoffs who are already 6-2 on the road.

  5. I can c phil sims actually watches the games… He actually said exactly what happened… Sanders had nuttin to do with this loss… This was bad coaching decisions and special teams… 49ers didn't blow them out, it was a 10-8 game until the coach and special teams gave it away… It was a bad weather game nobody was gonna throw for 300 yards in 35mph winds… That was a game of defense and the coach blew it… Even a person playing me madden could have made better decisions than that…. Them sacks he took was way after the game was outta reach… Even with them not taking the 3 when it was 7-0 was crazy stupid too… If u hating on Sanders today u just didn't like him at first… And if u confidence in 49ers went up after today u sadly mistaken, browns gave them that game, purdy just threw 3 picks last week…

  6. This game wasn't even about SS to me. The Browns haven't been good for a while. They beat a bad team in LV, the Niners are a good team and they managed to outplay the Niners (points, yards, defensive stops, etc.) in the first half. They then proceeded to give it all away in the most horrendous way I've seen in years. I hate lousy football, and this really should have been a low scoring game that SF barely eked out.

  7. Niners are a great team. The Browns played exactly how I expected them to play against an actual good team. Shedeur is a 5th rounder off 6/7 day's of practice. He didn't wet the bed. And he looks better each week. Comparing to his draft class lol he's not looking bad for a 5th rd pick. I know the fan fare makes people hate him. And the goal post is moved. Let's just be honest. Look at his play compared to who he was drafted with. He's not out there drowning in the water he's playing fine. But he has to improve hard to do for any browns qb.

  8. I love how fans are making this as if the Browns were the best team in the league and that his win was huge. If they lost this game, it would have been embarassing. Purdy was throwing to wide open receivers a good chunk of the time. He made some really good throws as well, but those passes lacked any sort of zip. Watch the highlights and all his passes had a lot of air on them. The same type of passes that a decent secondary picked him off 3 times in a half. Lets also not forget that the Niners were given the gift of the easiest schedule given to any team in the last 10 years, because of how bad they were the year before with a healthy Purdy. They have another easy game against the Titans next week, but finish with a tough 3 games against the Colts, Bears and Seahawks.
