Left Tackle Tristan Wirfs catches a TD Pass | Tampa Bay Buccaneers Vs Arizona Cardinals

Okay, this was a fun play in the Cardinals Buccaneers game. So, let’s pause it right here. This is a third down and goal situation and the Buccaneers have struggled to score in these situations. They’ve had multiple touchdowns get called back due to penalty. They had a dropped uh touchdown in this game where they had to settle for three instead. They need to dial something up to actually get the ball into the end zone. You see, I have circled Charlie Hec. That is the backup tackle who is in the game due to uh they put an extra offensive lineman in the game. So, six offensive linemen are in the game right now. He was the one they put in. What’s interesting is, so the way it works is for football, you have five players who are ineligible receivers. Those are your offensive linemen. But when you put an extra offensive lineman in the game, this means you can have one of them go over to a ref. They report as eligible. The ref announces it on the intercom for everyone to hear that that player has reported eligible. What Tampa Bay is doing is instead of having the uh the extra offensive lineman report eligible over there, Tristan Wors, the left tackle is eligible. It doesn’t have to be, you know, whoever’s furthest on the line. You have to still have this uh you know, lined up a certain way, but ultimately for Tristan Worfs, he is the one who is eligible here, not the uh backup offensive lineman, even though there’s only two offensive linemen towards the center left. So, when Baker Mayfield takes his snap, watch how Worfs I mean, he’s playing this like how you see a tight end play it. you kind of push the uh you know edge rusher further back and then he’s going to run out towards his spot. If he was a tight end, there’d be no real issue here for Arizona. That player simply can just pick up Tristan Wors and and you’re good. You have the uh you know, you have him stopped. Not a lot Tampa Bay can do there. But of course, because it is the offensive lineman there, the Arizona player who knew Worst was eligible. It was announced, but sometimes you just don’t think about that stuff. You know, you don’t expect the offensive lineman to actually be running a route. So when Baker Mayfield gets over there, no one is on Tristan Worse. Hey, Worst has been an allp pro at both uh right tackle and left tackle. May maybe tight end is next for him, I suppose. Okay, probably not. But a nice play there by uh by Tampa Bay and well schemed up
