Greetings all…

First post here (though I've lurked since I took the job last year). I'm the MLB.com Twins beat writer and I'll be posting/commenting in here sometimes going forward. Prolly will do an AMA before the Winter Meetings start, but for now this is just an introduction. I'll drop my newest piece from the site in the comments.

  1. God speed to you sir, at least you get paid to watch this team.

It’s gonna be real ugly in here until something happens with the Pohlads.

Its a dark time to be a Twins fan, but we’re glad to have you!

  2. I hope you will have proper covering to protect you from all the gaslighting that Twins management and ownership will do this off-season.

  3. Good luck!

If the Twins become the first team to NOT drop out of the top 5 in the lottery from #2 odds i’ll consider you a good luck charm

  4. I’m glad you’re here! Hopefully to hear some from (this subset of) the fans.

Summary: No one’s happy, though we do love Buck and a few others. Pohlads got to go.

  5. Welcome, look forward to reading your articles. As many here have already said, it’s a very tough time to be a fan with current ownership. Hope you get some good things to write about.

  6. Did you get assigned the Twins beat as punishment? And if so, what did you break/set on fire/completely miss?

  7. Welcome, we’re glad to have you on the beat.

Question for you: Do you think it’s weird that we haven’t heard an announcement about the approval of the new minority partners? I was under the impression that would be discussed last month at the owner’s meetings, but we haven’t had any news about it at all.

  8. Welcome aboard! If I may ask one thing, please just tell us what you’re seeing. We know the Pohlads aren’t being truthful on the whole competitive team front. Gleeman does a good job of this, and I hope to see another perspective on what you can see on the day-to-day in the clubhouse that we aren’t privy to.

    Hope you enjoy Minnesota, man!

  9. Welcome to the happy, sun-drenched lands of Twins Reddit! You’ll never leave, no matter how much you might want to. I think Do still sometimes lurks around here so you might want to be prepared for him jumping out of the shadows armed with a dozen spreadsheets.

Also, I once managed to accidentally piss you off with a post on Bluesky I didn’t adequately flag as sarcasm. I can’t promise the same won’t happen here though I shall try.

  10. Aren’t you just a glorified propagandist who is unable to write a discouraging word for fear of reprisal? My subscription has already been cancelled.

  11. I’ve been enjoying your stuff, but of course I can never forgive you for not being Do-Hyoung Park.

  12. If y’all don’t know, Mr. Leach has been doing this for quite a while and is excellent. Was the Cards beat writer for a hot minute and I read him religiously. Excellent follow on the socials.

  13. Are you a fellow sufferer or do you get to go home and cheer for a less disappointing team?

  14. I admire your courage for taking on what is a no win and depressing situation. TBH this assignment feels like the type you give to the intern or the person you all hate and wish nothing but a rough go.

You’ll have no shortage of idiot induced drama and satire to work with given the current decision makers.

nevertheless, maybe one day you can bear witness to the mass celebration is and when we are finally unshackled to the nepo Pohlads, Fail-vey and company.

  15. Lowkey jealous you get to consume baseball for a living but I digress. As bleak as some will say the future of the team looks I personally see a light. We truly do have a fun and exciting farm system at the moment which you no doubt know all about and I figure only looks to get stronger with a potentially strong draft pick this year and what will undoubtedly be a selling of one of our two big pitchers. While the immediate outlook is a team without the pieces for immediate success i do see a team with loads of potential in 3 or 4 years.

  16. Hi Matthew! Really enjoyed your into last year on Gleemman and the Geek, and hope you will work with those guys more. Glad you are here on Reddit with us as well. Cheers!

  17. Welcome and best of luck dealing with the highs and lows of internet commenters. In all seriousness, would love your insight about the managerial hire. Going with a guy who oversaw an equally, if not more, disappointing franchise the last several years is a curious move. What are we not seeing or aware of that should make fans excited about the new manager and staff?
