Can Macklin Celebrini and Tyler Toffoli LIFT Sharks in Crucial Utah Mammoth Battle?
The San Jose Sharks host the Utah Mammoth and what I believe is a must-win game for San Jose. Hello, welcome to Locked on Sharks, the premier hockey podcast covering your favorite team in the Bay Area. My name is JD Young, caretaker at the Reef, also the co-host of Locked On NHL. If you want to be an everyday, all you do is just follow along wherever you get podcast. And of course, you can watch on YouTube as well. Today, we’re going to break down the Sharks Mammoth game as these teams will have already uh played three times and finish off their season series here on December 1st. Uh so, we’re going to get to know how these two teams match up. Look at the Mammoths some more. Uh how the lines up line up lines look for both teams that there is a lot of game time decisions for both uh squads. So, and why again I think this is a must-win game for San Jose if they want to continue their good vibes into December. So, let’s get started by seeing how the two teams match up. Uh the Utah Mammoth and San Jose Sharks have an identical 121 and three record. Uh the Mammoths offense operating at 2.96 goals four per game, 18th. The Sharks at 2.81. Uh goals allowed 2.96. 17th for the mammoth, 3.19 uh goals allowed 21st, which again we’ve seen that steadily rise throughout the the season here for San Jose. Uh power play, the mammoth power play stinks. 13.7% 30th in the NHL. The Sharks at 18.91 18th and the PK the Mammoth are at 80.81 15th in the NHL. The Sharks PK again uh has risen up to 81.1 14th in the NHL. Uh Logan Kohley leads the Mammoth in goals with 14. Uh Clayton Keller in assists with 13. And then Logan Kohley 23 uh points. Celebrini of course leads the Sharks in all categories with 14 goals, 23 assists, and 37 total points. Uh this Utah Mammlin team uh bit of a slide as of late. They’re still a like their offense, they generate a lot of expected goals for maybe don’t score as many as you would expect. Like I said, the power play has been a big issue for them. the goalending has been a little kind of below par what you would expect for this Utah Mammoth team, especially with the amount of uh they do a pretty solid job of kind of the expected goals against at five on five, but have given up more than you would expect for them. As for the Mammoth lining up, uh Logan Kulie is a game time decision. If he is out, that is a massive, massive blow for this Utah Mammoth as he is arguably their best player. Uh, and actually I don’t think it’s really much of an argument. I think he is their best player already. So, uh, that would be the equivalent of the Sharks losing Melo Greedy. Like, he is he’s that good for them. Um, Schmaltz, Koulie Gunther. So, Kohley was on morning skate. So, we’ll see if that bodess well for him playing tonight. But if he is playing, he’s definitely not 100% after leaving last game. I think it’s a bone bruise or knee bruise or something like that. So um so yeah, Schmolz, Kulie, Gunther, Keller, Hatton, Purka, uh Krauss, McBain, Carone, Yamamoto, Sinland, and Taniv on the fourth line. Uh Cirichev, Derzy, Schmidt, Marino, Cole, and D Simone. And Vamela is starting for uh the Utah Mammoth. For the Sharks, uh we had a little bit of injury update. So Vinnie Deese as expected going on IR. Pavo Reenda gets the call up as the Sharks uh need some more forward uh depth but uh so we have Tofuloi Cbrrini Smith uh Eklan Wenberg Regenda Kersha Dandria Graph Goodro Reeves uh Goddet is a game time decision so we’ll see if he comes in or not uh for and that would be in that regenda spot there. So, we’ll see there. Defensively, uh I I believe it’s actually going to be Orlav Ligrin, Ferraro Clingberg, and then Dickinson Muk Mullan with Ascrov starting for the Sharks tonight. So, um for San Jose, this is a as weird as it sounds, this is a must-win game for the Sharks, right? Um you failed against Vegas um in that game where, you know, very much a big game. You play Utah, which is struggling right now. You play Washington, which is like they’re they’re not as good as last year, but they’re still, you know, a good team. Then you play Dallas, who’s one of the best teams in Angel, and then Carolina, and then Philly and Toronto. So, um, in Pittsburgh on on a big-time East Coast wing. So, you need to stack points here because I think points over the next uh the rest of this week are going to be hard to come by. So, getting some points now uh would do this team a lot of good before going on this uh road trip to through Dallas Carolina especially like this could be a uh tough start to the road trip for San Jose. I think this is this is a massive game for the Sharks to win and and set yourself up to at least kind of survive. Uh the Mammoth have really struggled as of late. Um they’ve lost three straight games. Uh they lost to the Pitiful Blues on Saturday, one to nothing. Uh they lost to Dallas four to three and then they lost to Montreal um four to three and that was the last game of a road trip. So, they’re looking at this as a potential getright game. Uh, because they also feel like they need to stack points for a team that started so hot and has now really kind of fallen apart over the last month or so. This is a a get right potential game for them. So, I’m very excited to see how these two teams start. Um because both teams are going to be circling this game as a potential getright game or like get right game for the Mammoth and a potential like must-win stack points game for the Sharks. So I think that’s going to be massive to this game is getting off to a a great start uh for San Jose. And I think um you look to the guys that we kind of have talked a lot about recently, right? Tofoley and Equin, two players I’m watching tonight. We know Ekwin’s on a two-game goal streak here. Tyler Tofouli, we talked about, right, is he’s on a current 12game point uh goalless streak. I feel like the goals are coming. I think tonight could be a big night for Tofoley to kind of get back on the board and really kind of kickstart December uh for the Sharks. So, um, those are two big players I’m watching is can Equin continue his hot hand and can to fully get off the schneide here. And I I think if those players do, I think the Sharks have a really good chance in this game. And I actually I do believe the Sharks win this game. And as much as the Mammoth have struggled as of late, I know they’re again they’re looking as they’re also looking at this game as a must-win game. Uh, so I I do feel like this is going to be a a very well-played hockey game between both teams. Um, but I think the Sharks at home, I think Ascrovet is a big advantage. Uh, Ascrov versus uh, Vamela. Um, definitely taking Ascrov there and especially if Logan Koulie is out or if Logan Culie isn’t 100%. I think the Sharks just have the best player on the ice um, in Mlin Celibbriny. So, I think the Sharks win. I think this is going to be a very closenknit game that we’re gonna like again both teams I think are going to kind of try to elevate their game in here and not like a playoff caliber game but I wouldn’t be surprised if this is like a a very close checking uh tight game uh from both teams especially for the Mammoth who have been struggling to score as of late. So I have San Jose winning three-2. I think like I said I think to fully gets off the schneide. Uh and then yeah I I think Ascrov uh Ascrov does a lot to kind of lock this thing down for San Jose late. So that’s kind of normal formula for the Sharks, right? Where I think they they get up a little bit early and then they uh try to have Ascar block things down and I think they’re successful tonight. So give me a Sharks 3 to2 win and give me it to fully goal. So, we’ll be back tonight with a special guest to help break down this game. Uh, so make sure you’re following along wherever you get podcasts. And of course, you can watch on YouTube as well. Follow the show on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and on Tik Tok. Locked on Sharks. San Jose Sharks face a must-win showdown against the Utah Mammoth with playoff implications on the line. Can Macklin Celebrini and Tyler Toffoli snap the Sharks back into winning form, especially as Utah grapples with injuries to Logan Cooley? Both teams share identical records, but with the Mammoth’s offense struggling and their power play near the league’s bottom, the Sharks see an opportunity to stack crucial points before a daunting road trip.
JD Young breaks down the key matchups, injury updates, and why Askarov starting in net could give San Jose the edge. Insights include Logan Cooley’s potential absence, Toffoli’s quest to end his goalless streak, and the pressure mounting for both teams to kick off December with a statement win. Is this the night San Jose rallies at home to keep playoff hopes alive, or will Utah find a way to get back on track?
