🚨Boston Celtics Make SNEAKY SIGNING + BIG Jayson Tatum Injury Update

It’s a new week, which means there’s a bunch of new Celtics news nuggets to discuss here as they made a sneaky signing over the weekend that went a little bit under the radar. We’ll discuss that. We’ll talk about Jason Tatum and his new injury update as he is 28 weeks into his Achilles recovery. And then a Celtics player that continues to make noise with each big opportunity that he gets in Joe Mazula’s rotation. All that and more in just a matter of moments as you’re watching Celtics today by chat sports and my name is Tyler Smith. Let’s talk about this Celtics signing that went down over the weekend as Michael Scott of Hoopite reported that Keon Johnson has been claimed by the Boston Celtics GLeague affiliate, the main Celtics. Johnson is now fully healthy and he averaged 10.6 points, 3.8 rebounds, 2.2 assists, and 1.0 steals in 79 games last year where he started 56 times for the Brooklyn Nets. So, this guy is just hanging around in free agency and he’s now getting signed by a G-League team. Like, this doesn’t make a whole heck of a lot of sense to me. We’re going to break it down. And this is why you subscribe to the channel, man. Because when the Celtics make a move, we’re bringing you guys a video. We’re making you guys content here on the channel because you guys need to know this type of stuff. And if you guys subscribe, you can help us hit our next milestone of 55,000 subs. We’re going for the double nickel. Do it for Baylor Sherman. Go down below and hit that subscribe button for free Celtics content every single day. My question after this Keon Johnson signing is like why was this guy sitting in for agency? I understand he’s coming back from a pretty big injury and all that stuff, but I mean to not even be claimed by any team around the league, even some of the bottom feeders out there who could be very much in line for a 23-year-old player who just coming off his best season of his career. I mean he averaged 10 and a half points last year. Didn’t shoot it necessarily at a high clip and really hasn’t throughout his career so far has yet to eclipse a 40% from the field mark. But I mean he he’s an athletic player. He can get downhill. He’s solid with the ball on his hands and he he projects as a pretty good point of attack defender as well. But what we know if you look at the three-point marksmanship there and just the overall field goal percentages that shooting guards who can’t shoot, they don’t necessarily have the best role or at least the at least the most desirable uh set of skills in today’s NBA. You got to be able to space the floor. You got to be able to be on the floor as well. And with Keon Johnson uh coming off a major injury here, that’s probably a concern for a lot of teams here. But I’ll tell you straight up, like this guy belongs on an NBA roster, 23 years old, averaged double digit points last year. Sure, it was for a bad Brooklyn Nets team, but like he started the majority of the season. It was he was he a tank commander for the Brooklyn Nets? I I can’t sit here and act like that’s going to be the case when this guy put up solid numbers last year and he was pretty good on both ends of the floor. So, I think he belongs to the NBA roster. I think there’s a chance that if he balls out, which is pretty likely given that the G-League is not too difficult to get buckets in, like this guy could see a potential call up here to the Boston Celtics before the end of the season. And when you consider what the Celtics guard rotation looks like with them potentially trading Anthony Simons down the line, probably to trade for somebody in the front court, well, maybe Keon Johnson could step in and take that role of the Celtics bench guard here down the stretch of this season. With that being said, I got to ask you guys this. Will Keon Johnson get called up to the Celtics? Predict it for me down in the comments right now. Why for yes and for no on if this Celtics G-League signing is going to eventually be wearing real Celtic green. Next, we’re going to get into a Jason Tatum injury update here as hopefully this guy could potentially, I don’t know, maybe make an appearance at some point this season. That’s around the corner. Let’s talk Chadam, man. 28 weeks, continues to be in and around the Arab Center, ramping up his workouts, ramping up the production, just trying to be available at some point this season because we know how badly Jason Tatum wants to be out there with his Celtics teammates. But Joe Misoula was asked about Jason Tatum’s potential recovery timeline and the possibility of him returning this season. And he said, “I have no idea. I never thought about it. The only thing that I care about is that he’s a part of the team and it’s a credit to him. He’s on the bench for every game. He’s on the trips. He’s working out during practice. He is in the film rooms. He’s at shootarounds. That’s how he’s leading with his presence. And that’s how he’s prepared to come back whenever that is. That’s the only thing that matters. Everything else will take care of itself. But in moments like this, when you can stick together and be a team and not distance yourself, that goes a long way. And he does a great job of that. I mean, we’ve seen this since the injury went down, right? In the offseason, Jason Tatum was the first guy in the gym, last guy to leave. like and it was trickling down to the rest of the Celtics roster. Jordan Walsh mentioned it, Sam Hower mentioned it that Tatum was an inspiration and he’s lighting a fire under the rest of the Celtics roster here to match his level of intensity to match his level of effort here in his recovery process. And we’ve seen Tatum in some clips throughout this uh early part and early portion of the season that he’s been ramping up his workouts. We’ve been seeing him going out there and dunking the ball off of one foot, off of two feet. Also, we’ve been seeing him take sidestep three-pointers, which we know Jason Tatum, it’s a staple of his game. And to be able to see that on camera right now, it’s just it brings joy to my heart that we’re seeing Jason Tatum out there playing real basketball, looking like himself again. But I would still temper expectations on him coming back this season. Sam Hower did say this on the return possibility as well. He said he’s staying mentally, physically, emotionally prepared. He’s working his tail off every day as you can see and his presence is still felt through though he’s not there with us. We appreciate him giving the time to us still even though he hasn’t been able to compete with us in full but hopefully he’ll return at some point in the season. If not, no big deal, but he’s definitely still one of our leaders. Now, me personally, I’m not necessarily agreeing with Sam Hower here. I’m of the camp that maybe wouldn’t bring Jason Tatum back this year given the severity of the injury, the possibility for reagravation of an Achilles and just really a deterioration of his career that would happen thereafter. So, my number one priority is getting Jason Tatum back 100% healthy. I’m more of the uh Joe Mazula side of things here, but we’ve heard from medical experts, Jason Tatum himself, like there’s a possibility that he could come back this year. But the issue that I would raise with that is that the Celtics aren’t a contender right now. I know that the eight seed in the East. I know they’re over 500, but they’re not a contender. This roster still has major holes on it at this point. They don’t have a center. Like, they don’t have much depth on the bench that you can really rely upon when making a championship run. So, what would be the point in bringing back Jason Tatum if it wasn’t to just risk reagravation of that injury? I would hold him out. What do you guys think? Should Jason Tatum try to play this year? Let me know in the comments section. Type P for play, S for sit. What say you on JT? Let me know what you think down in the comments section. I don’t think we necessarily have to cuz we got Jordan Walsh, baby. We’re watching Jordan Walsh in real time become a guy as Sam Brown’s laughing outside the frame here on this video. I’m serious. Jordan Walsh is a legitimate basketball player. And with each opportunity that he’s getting in this Celtics lineup, the Celtics are flourishing as a as a result. And so is he. The seas are now five and 0 when Jordan Walsh is in that starting lineup and he had to be against the Cavs last night because of the Derek White injury and all that stuff and then them sitting out and Kada not being in the lineup either. Jordan Walsh goes in there, steps up, gets the assignment of Donovan Mitchell. We’ll tell you about that in just a moment, but he had his best career game statistically in this one. 14 points, 11 rebounds, shot it efficiently, hit a couple of threes, had three stocks, which he’s been averaging as a starter as well. Just awesome stuff. 38 minutes played. Could you imagine me telling you a year ago that Jordan Walsh a year from then would be playing 38 minutes against the Cleveland Cavaliers? Yeah. And he made the most of it as well. His stats as a starter for the most part aren’t necessarily flashy, but he is going out there and playing a role for the Boston Celtics here. He’s averaging five boards a game each time he’s out there with the starting five. He is getting three stocks a game, and that’s uh averaging about two two steals uh on these instances and one block. He isn’t necessarily shooting the ball with a crazy number, but are we really ever going to ask Jordan Walsh to be an offensive like load carrier here? Like I I don’t think so. Like we’re never going to ask Jordan Walsh to fill up the box score. Like what you’re what you’re assigning him to do is go out there and be a stick, an on ball menace, a point of attack defender that this the best guards in this league have trouble against. We’ve seen it with Tyrese Maxi. We’ve seen it with John Morant. We’ve seen it with James Harden. Like these guys are flustered when Jordan Walsh is out there defending them. And we saw it once again against the Cleveland Cavaliers and Donovan Mitchell. Dan Greenberg reporting this saying Jordan Walsh guarded Donovan Mitchell on 43 possessions last night and held him to just four points on two of eight shooting while forcing two turnovers. Now I see that Sam Brown’s not laughing anymore. And the it’s it’s even bigger than just this one matchup. like it’s an entire season sample size so far at least of 20 games of Jordan Walsh being one of the NBA’s elite defenders 67 and under. Now look at this uh stat that we have here. It’s a little bit cherry picked but you know what I like cherrypicked stats sometimes because this one yeah Jordan Walsh is definitely a good defender. It says Jordan Walsh ranks second in the NBA in defensive field goal percentage versus expected among players 6’7 or under. Derek Jones there at number one. And then Jordan Walsh there at number two above Hall of Fame all-time defender Draymond Green. So yeah, Jordan Walsh is matching up with some of the best defenders in all of basketball this year. And I just hope he continues to get that opportunity in Joe Mazula’s lineup. With that being said, show some love to Jordan Walsh down in the comments section right now. Give me a 27. Give me a JW. And I’ll know who the real ones are who watch the entire video today when I see who type 27 down in the comment section. Is that will do it for today’s edition of Celtics Today by Chat Sports. 1. I thought Keon was gambling the way they let him go under the radar.. honestly no one cares about American players unless they are clear starter talent

  2. I think people aren't expecting that the DEEP BENCH DEPTH of the Boston Celtics are scoring like Power Forwards and Centers, each averaging almost a double double.. 27

  3. If he’s healthy, ready, willing and able to play basketball. He should play. Dude is getting paid to play basketball. If he’s at risk for injury or not feeling 100% that’s a different story.
