[0:00] “There was no urgency today…got outplayed basically the whole time. It’s unacceptable."
[0:17] They can’t give up a goal right after killing off a penalty to start the third period. “It’s just not nearly good enough at home. For some reason we are very content not bringing A Game right now. It’s disappointing, and it starts with me. Got to be better and lead better and just can’t have this anymore.”
[0:55] Tampa “won every battle. They competed, they skated faster, and they executed better.”
[1:09] “They were more willful than we were today…at no point in that game were we deserving of winning. Shesty does everything he can to keep it close.”
Troch
[1:45] “This game’s majority mental, and I think it’s up to you to kind of fight off the negativity whenever there’s something creeping into your mind.”
[2:13] Tampa outworked them. “It’s a lot harder to execute whenever you’re getting outworked and getting beat to pucks and you’re under duress the majority of the time.”
[2:41] They’re focusing on one game at a time.
Mika
[2:59} They tried to simplify the power play without Fox. They didn’t have much time to prepare. It’s going to be a different power play without Fox.
[3:59] They didn’t get a lot of pucks through to the net. They had a good 10 minutes at the end of the second, but they otherwise spent most of the game in the d-zone and neutral zone.”
"We understand the reaction from our fans. I think we're more frustrated than they are"
[0:00] “We got outcompeted from the drop of the puck.”
[0:13] “There’s got to be a willingness and a want to be first to pucks, you know, to embrace the physicality…I don’t think we had the wherewithal to match the intensity…I felt like we lost puck battles all over the rink, and it’s hard to establish any sort of game that you want to play if you don’t win puck battles.”
[1:08] Fox is being evaluated for an upper body injury.
[1:16] “There’s going to be nights when you’re not going to have your best game, but you got to find ways to compete. You know, I thought we had a push in the second period…I don’t think we shot the puck nearly enough. You know, we’re always looking for the next best play and, you know, instead of getting people inside and getting to the blue paint and, you know, delivering pucks to the net and greeting some opportunity off the shot. I don’t think we create nearly enough off the shot…as a result we don’t force teams to have to defend the inside of the ice.”
[2:32] It was deflating to get scored on right after they killed off the penalty to start the third. But, they still needed to find a way to try and win because it’s still a close game.
[3:16] He doesn’t think that the home record affecting the team mentally was the reason for the poor game.
[3:26] “We’re trying to encourage Laf to challenge people, hang on to pucks, go wide, force that guy to have to defend you.” On Hagel’s second goal Laf dumped the puck in when Sully felt they shouldn't have. To compound that, they didn’t “go after the puck with any sort of structure,” which leads to the goal against. He feels they just gave Tampa the puck a lot of times.
[4:41] “I don’t think the players by any stretch have intentions of getting out competed. You know, obviously, we’ve gotta find a way to take more pride in that, and that’s something we’ve got to work through as a group.”
