Maybe they did this to bring Diaz’s value down. Showing what the closer market is lol 14million for Helsley, 15 for Williams with 2 and 3 year contracts. Stearns is playing 4d chess lol
please stearns i’ll take him only if we resign diaz to stay our closer
Thank you for telling me what I want to hear
Okay, then this makes sense. Hopefully a 3-4 year deal at $20m+ year

Martino says the same thing
Until Edwin puts pen to paper it’s hard to feel confident about anything. It’s obvious the Mets have a lot of moves left to make but so far this offseason has consisted on trading away our longest tenured player, and signing a guy who’s had very public struggles in this very city while our elite closer and home grown star first baseman remain free agents. Not much to feel great about yet.
Diaz signing is imminent, wherever he goes, the Williams move tells me the Mets FO is extremely confident they’ll resign him and have a filthy Williams/Diaz backend or extremely worried he’s gone (and everyone’s praying it’s not the dodgers)
I like the reporting coming out immediately that they’re still interested in Diaz tho, won’t stop people from freaking out immediately but oh well… this reporting also leads me to believe they’re actively talking with Edwin rn
Making every game 7 innings essentially if Devin can bring it and Diaz comes back. Only time will tell if it’s a bad signing but he was not great last year with that almost 5 ERA.
Idc what anybody says..
ONLY PERSON TO GET WALK OUT MUSIC IS FUCKIN DIAZ. YOU GOTTA EARN THE MUSIC.
Hells Bells and you tip pitches like they delivered your pizza? Nah, not flying anymore.
Whoo Yeah!!
This is what I like to hear. Of course we thought this would work with Helsley. So crossing all the fingers that doesn’t repeat.
Having both would certainly help that “run prevention” thing.
Williams to Diaz, if Williams is right, would be a quite stellar lockdown back of the bullpen.
I think he’s gone. Stearns didn’t drop $50mil on a setup guy.
This is reassuring. If Diaz resigns then I’m a fan of signing Williams. But I’m really worried the Dodgers will throw a blank check at Diaz to solve their bullpen woes.
If this works out like how the Helsey plan was *supposed* to work out I will be ecstatic. Promising signing
Sign Diaz sign Pete sign schwaber. Have McNeil in left till the kids are ready.
Seems like this is the range of the deal they offered Diaz, maybe a tad more. I’m good with that. Team can afford two elite RPs.
I really wish the beat guys would push back on obvious spin like this.
Devin Williams gives them leverage. Period. Now, they can tell Diaz’s camp “we will not give you what you want, because we don’t need you” — which will most likely send him elsewhere.
And they can tell fans “hey, don’t worry, we’re also still in on your favorite player” so they can renew their ticket plans.
I sure as hell hope so
Coincidence we signed Williams same day Cohens casino got approved?
This seems like a good move with Williams, I just hope He reverts back to his solid ERA of 2 to 2.5 that he’s known for! One of the best relievers in MLB!
I am happy with this move only if we re-sign diaz. Our bullpen as of now is atrocious and the sterns special early last year(and after the deadline) was absolutely unacceptable.
Devin Williams was destroyed after that Alonso homer. Maybe the only way to break that curse and return to his former self is joining the Mets.
