Chargers React To Week 13 Win Vs Raiders | LA Chargers
How did um the by-week prepare you guys as far as getting refocused on what what’s at hand? Uh bye-week, I feel like our coaches did a good job of reflection on who he is and uh what we need to get better at and um I just feel like they did a great job over the break just coming back with information we had and uh we went out as players and executed. What was the biggest challenge to try to beat a division rival twice in the season? Uh it’s hard beating any team twice in this league, especially professionals, but man uh just going out there playing our keys, everybody doing their job, and just playing tough defense. And uh we knew it was going to be a tough game, but we got it done on defense. When you’re very overprotective when it comes to your quarterback to see what Max Crosby did, what did you think of that? Oh, I was mad about that. I was hot about that. I was actually standing on the sideline, but I got a good relationship with Max. Uh I know he not that type of player. Hopefully, he ain’t try to do it on purpose, but uh at the end of day, that’s my quarterback. We going to make sure he good always. How big was uh Jug’s uh in the session? Oh, it was big, man. Just being able to change the math on the turnovers and be able to give our offense a chance to go down and score. I feel like that’s why we out there on defense trying to get as many takeaways as we can. How do you guys replicate this performance last five weeks? All opponents 500 or better. It’s December football now. Uh consistency and uh just day by day prep getting ready. Uh not thinking too far ahead and just my being in the moment being where we at right now. Best thing about uh extra day next week Monday nighter. You got to wait a day longer. That’s that’s the bad thing about it. But uh more time to prepare, more time to get the body back recovered. Uh, can’t wait to go. You know, that team’s not going to be too thrilled either. Eagles coming in here. That’s how we like it. We’ll be all right. That’s how you like it, huh? Yes. Yes. Yes, sir. Okay. Sounds good, man. Yes, sir. How How did the the by-week help you guys refocus, you know, um for the game at hand today? Uh we got to focus and attack a lot of the details. Uh stuff that we felt hindered us in the past. I mean, in our losses, you know, four losses mean a lot to us. So, we had to attack those and just, you know, take a look within. So, that by-week really was helpful. Yeah, you had a little fun in the uh back field there of the Raiders today, right? Gino had all your names memorized. Yeah. No, definitely. Definitely. I was just happy to be a part of it. You know, when you got a a a fourman rush that we have up front, uh as as good as they are, just to be able to get a little piece of that back field is is a blessing. So, shout out them guys for doing all the dirty work up front. And then, you know, Coach Mer gave me and DJ a shot to be in the back field and, you know, when we got our chance, we did it. Strange first half, but you guys turn things around. Okay, we need to take care of biz now, right? Yeah. 100% 100%. This is a four quarter game. You know, we uh play we don’t play just to win in the first quarter. We don’t play to win in the second. We play to win in the fourth. And so for us, it didn’t matter what happened in that first half. As soon as we got in the locker room, we wiped it and it was time to get, you know, get up on and finish the game. You got an extra day uh this week and and it’s a Monday nighter. Uh how do you like being in the spotlight against the Super Bowl champs? I mean, you got to respect each opponent and then, you know, come game day, we got to do our best to to win that game and make sure that it’s not about what they did in the past, not about what we did in the past, it’s about winning the game that’s ahead of us. Give me a little extra juice, though. 100%. Any game is juice. But I what I will say, a Monday night prime time game is a is a lot of juice for us. And uh I mean, we’ve been good on prime time, so we trying to make sure we keep that streak alive. Good. How do you keep this momentum going after today’s win? Uh to not get complacent. It’s easier said than done, but uh with a win like this, we got to understand that, you know, every game is going to be hard because we’re playing against teams who who want to win and want to be in the playoffs. Uh you look at our future opponents, they’ve all been winning. You know, we got the Broncos still, we got the Chiefs still, we got the Eagles winning teams, you know, so we’re trying to make sure that we move forward and and have the same urgency as we did this game. I think it’s pretty obvious Day Henley doesn’t get complacent. No, no, no, no, no. I can’t. It doesn’t it doesn’t happen at disloc. No, it definitely doesn’t happen. I I pretty much hold myself to as high a standard as I can. Uh lift myself to that standard and try to make sure the team follows suit. You have a good Thanksgiving, sir. 100% 100% with the people I had. What kind of message do you think you guys sent to us? Uh I think it’s less about the message and more about uh our commitment to establish oursel with the run, especially for this run we got to go on cuz I mean it’s important come December, January, February to be able to do that. So, I mean, uh, it was more about our commitment to ourselves and establishing a run in that regard. Um, more important than that. Jared said you guys are killers today up front. Um, how do you guys felt like it went in terms of run blocking today? I mean, I was going to say the same thing about them. They uh they make us look good, him and KV when they’re running like that. It’s uh we competent each other well. So, I mean, it’s they killed it today and they make everybody look good when they’re running hard like that. How much confidence does it give you guys to know that you have a Marian coming back and then with Kimmani and Jared just that that stable of backs when it really counts? Yeah, I mean that’s like we said coming into the the playoff push here and it’s going to be big time to be able to run the ball like that. So having those three guys is going to be electric. It’s going to bode well for us for sure. Left tackle today. How do you think it went? I mean I thought it went well. Um obviously some things always to clean up. Um it was kind of like riding the bike, you know, taking the training wheels off. I thought I had a good good week of practice and uh just going out there and uh just doing my best for the team. Obviously wanted Justin to be clean and um you know they got to got to cheap one I call it. But yeah, it is what it is. You know, we go out there and get better. That’s all. What’ you guys think of that when you saw that? Um as far as what the Crosby the Crosby hit on Justice. Oh yeah, man. We never want we never want that on our quarterback. At the end of the day, man, we are we’re always striving. Nobody’s perfect out there. He’s a great player. We got we game plan for him, but at the end of the day, you know, he’s going to get one, but we going to get him back. You know, we won a game. So the uh the fact that you guys rushed for 192 yards today with Kmani and Jarrett with Amarian coming back. How important was that message sent uh when you played December football start next week against the Eagles? I mean running game, you know, they always say pack your running game, pack your defense. Um and today we we had both. Um especially when we go on the road and and play these tougher games. I mean these all all playoff games. So that’s our mindset is going to these games being able to dominate the run game and uh you know being able to protect our queue and that’s that’s what we want to do. Can you talk about that fourth down play where you’re able to jump over and you’re able to stop Genty? Just what you saw in that play. Did you see something that didn’t tip anything off before the Yeah, I just I knew I knew they were going to down block. Um I knew the the tight end that was on me was going to try to wash me down cuz they was in the same uh formation the play before. Uh and I seen them both leaning. They’re both communicating like, “Oh, I got him. I got him.” So, all right, I can just jump through and try to make a play. 10 sacks uh now on the season. And Derwin was telling me that he was counting them that he knew before you uh when when he got the first one he’s like nine nine. Okay, let’s get to 10. Just what does that mean to you to be at 10 sacks this season? Man, it’s just it’s um it’s not enough. I feel like there’s a lot more a lot more out there. I I keep missing a lot as well. So, I I just there’s a lot more. That’s it. Five games left. Just how crucial is that five game stretch especially with you guys kind of teetering in that sixth uh spot right now in the AFC? Yeah, we got some great opportunities coming up. Uh especially this next one, Monday night. Uh great opponent. Um what’s up, Pippy? Uh we’re looking forward to the opportunity, man. That’s that’s a that’s a game you want to, you know, show up, show out, and um yeah, we looking forward to it. How big was the buy to mentally reset this stretch run? Man, the buy was amazing. I I love the buy. It was at a perfect time. That was the first time I ever had a buy late in the season like that. Um but it was perfect, man. I had some time to reflect. the team has some time to reflect and and we came out here swinging today and we’re proud of the guys. How do you think this sets the tone for December football? You know, coach Harwood likes to run the football to have dependable backs with Amarian coming back yourself and Keani. Uh I think this sets the tone, you know, uh a big deal. You know what I’m saying? So, for us to make a a playoff run, you know, we need to be able to run the ball, you know, and and play in those big games. And uh like you said, we don’t have to uh you know, no one has to take the load and and everybody can be fresh and you know, everybody can help help the team win and get as far as we can. Having the bye-week to be able to get refreshed, obviously, get healthy. How big was that as you guys kind of mentally get ready for the stretch run? Uh big, man. and we’ve been we we’ve been at this thing since July, you know, since the Hall of Fame game and we needed that uh to reset uh to recharge and uh you know know that uh you know we’re a good football team, you know, and and that we going to make this uh this run and it’s going to take everybody and one game at a time, but we really needed that just to re recharge and regroup. Jared, how would you assess the offensive line play, especially run blocking today, man? Awesome. You know, they made they made our our jobs pretty easy. them them guys uh was killers today, you know, and and they they they’ve been doing it for for for a minute, you know, and uh I think that’s only going to get better for them. What could you say about Justin’s grit? Obviously gets hurt early, leaves the game, comes back. Uh he’s a savage, man. Uh he’s man, he’s he’s just a a savage tough guy. Uh you know, there was no doubt in our minds, you know, he’s our leader, you know. Uh so when I when we seen that, man, we just wanted to uh you know, rally around him and play for him. and but now that guy he he’s just mentally strong and he and he’s just a savage. What did that touchdown mean mean to you? Uh it meant a lot man. Uh you know in my career you know I started with Washington undrafted uh you know spent three years there uh before I came over here. Uh and it means a lot you know uh just to you know show I can belong in in this league and I can do it at a high level. Why you guys so successful today you think uh against obviously Crosby and what they can bring defensively? Uh, I think it’s the way we practice honestly. Uh, we we we we we kind of set a high standard, you know, in a running back room. Uh, you know, uh, practicing very hard and, you know, on the details, on the fundamentals, but I think, uh, just our preparation in practice, uh, uh, each and every week we can go and have games like this. How important was it for this defense to put on this type of performance? Kind of set the tone. Yeah, I mean, everyone’s been chomping at the bit to to get back out here, you know, especially after uh, the last game that we played and then we had the bye-week. felt like we haven’t been out here in a while and uh you know we were on our details. We had a lot of time to reflect and and go over uh the issues that were happening and how we can fix them and I think we did a good job of putting our best foot forward. Obviously we weren’t perfect but we were a lot better today and and the issues that have affected us previously to see the offense run for 192 yards. How did that help you guys in the defense? Oh it’s great. I mean, they’re you’re you’re killing the clock at the same time. Uh ground and pound, keeping us off the field. We’re fresh. We go over the plays that we’re seeing already out there. So, it helps. And that’s just playing complimentary football. Um the offense is able to move the chains like that. Running backs in and out. Jared Pat and Kamani Videll just carrying the load for us. Like it it’s huge for the ball. Walk us through the pick. What happened? What’ you see? Uh just trying to use my instincts there. You know, the old vet in there just uh they were backed up. So I just figured, you know, if they do throw a a ball, it’s probably going to be a deep deeper deeper type pass cuz he’s backed up. Doesn’t have that much time. So I just kind of just read Gino um and just broke and uh DJ made a great play on the sideline and I was able to catch the ball, keep my knees inbound, and give our offense some good field position. I was going to say it didn’t look like that might have been your assignment. Is that one of those where you just kind you’ve seen it so many times you’re like going, I know where I’m going. I’m going to go make freeance. kind of just like pre-nap just like kind of made up my mind and you know you got to take a chance. Some sometimes you’re wrong, sometimes you’re right. Thank god I was right. To have Tulie play the way he did up front kind of setting the tone for you guys. Um we just talked about the opponents coming up, all 500 or better. Um where is this defense right now and and where do you think it can go? Uh I think we’re ascending. Um, I think in my opinion, I think our best football is ahead of us. Um, guys are really locked in. Guys want to be better. Guys want to fix the issues that we’ve had. And, um, I think the main thing is just keeping it uh, a week-by-eek basis thing. Don’t look don’t look past anybody. Um, it’s one game at a time. Our it’s a playoff mentality really uh, going into each week. Just prepare as best as we can and go out there and execute the game plan to the best of our ability. and we just let the cards fall where they fall. But, uh, my money’s on us. It kind of went in at the beginning of the season, you know, uh, when I wasn’t playing, you know, for those three weeks, you know, it was like a mini, you know, uh, training session for me almost and, uh, just using not playing the game against my advantage. Was it like coming off of last year? Was that a priority for you as far as I mean it it started honestly uh um when I started being inactive at the end of the season? Yeah. You know I I was like you know I want to I want to change this like I don’t want to be you know inactive. I you know I want to contribute to the team and uh help the team win. The expectation now moving forward is to is to capitalize on it and get to 18 17 18 19. That’s Miles Gar. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, we’ll take that. We’ll take that. He He came. Yeah. The uh fourth down play where Tuli like darts through. He’s able to stop Ash. He just I mean he said he kind of recognized that both of the guys started saying, “I’m going to do this, I’m going to do that.” So, I know I’m going to fit right in. Man, you think about just the how how nerdy he is. Um just situational football, man. Um he he’s gotten better and better at it. And so, um yeah, I I expect him to make them plays, man. Those those are the plays that separate you from everybody else in the league. And then you’ve been very vocal about the love that you have towards your quarterback to see the play with Max Crosby pushing him and everything. Just what did you think about that? I mean it was smart play by 10. I know I know he’s strong. I know he’s strong enough not to get pushed down. I just say that. I just say that much. But all in all, man, um just got to play smart football and a tough dude. on me. I mean, winners do winners things and losers do losers things. So, I expect, you know, my guy to be good from that little light push, but uh yeah, that was that was something I was surprised to see from him. But all in all, man, u it just made us a little extra hungry going back out there. You guys have a five game stretch against some of the toughest opponents right now in the AFC and the NFC. just what do you guys have to do mentally, physically, and everything to get ready for those uh those five matches, especially with you guys? Yeah. Do do what we’ve been doing, man. Um it’s a new week. It’s a new week and a new opponent. Um one game season and so you got to attack it as such, man. Just understanding, you know, what how they want to attack and just getting ready for, you know, their best effort just like we got, you know, I mean, we got to give our best effort. You guys talked a lot about run defense coming into the week. I believe it’s 1.7 yards a carry today. Yes. like what what was kind of working in that area and just kind of was that what you were expecting like the response? Yeah. Yeah. The response is the response but you got to respond with actions, man. So, uh I think we played a lot more physical at the line of scrimmage. Played a little more uh physical with our hands and just smart technique-wise up front and uh the linebackers filling off of us and so yeah, everything was falling in place, but it’s still room. There’s still room to get better.

8-4, tough end to the season but confident this team can win some more 50/50 games
Damn Daiyan dressed nice asf
Let’s take down those eagles. Run the ball, play great defense, and dicker the kicker baby.
Daiyan kinda been trash the 2nd half of the season or am I trippin
52 might be saying that Justin flopped?
Team needs to focus on the IOL and DL in the draft and free agency.
Why interview Pipkins ? The guy was horrible today.
Given all the injuries, if the Chargers win 1 more game this season, it should be considered a success.
1:10 Cornhusker prayer
The Offensive Lineman was 7/10 but it Definitely need some type of more work
I think this is the first game Bradley Boseman didn’t disappoint me
Our playoff literally begins next week. If we don’t beat eagles it could only get ugly. So we better start winning next Monday. Go Bolts.
They need to step up cause the next games are going to be tough their winnable if they play together like this game
We keep talking playoffs. 1 week at a time boys. A lot can happen the next few games
Jefferson is fricken old making sure plays
Salyer is a champ, keep him on the team at all cost
Great win by the Super Chargers tonight!
Jefferson is a very smart player. Stating the obvious but still….
The Chargers are a playoff team no matter how tough the rest of the scheule games are.
Go Bolts.
Mack holding back on Justin’s Grammy award winning acting
Winning in the 4 quarter is their focus (to paraphrase Henley) – I love it – that's where it matters (given Charger's history). Get a good start – get a lead, get a turn over or take away on downs. 2nd and 3rd quarter skirmish/street fight with run dominant offense. Dam breaks in the 4th with hits to our explosive offensive stalwarts – 3rd and Keenan, LaDD and company.
I haven't heard J. Salyer or Tuli Tuipolotu interviewed since their rookie Chargers interviews. Amazing to see the transformation into mature, composed men. Grateful they both are with the Chargers. And K. Mack is the dude. Shoutout to Kimani Vidal, Jaret Paterson and their Coaches. Man, what a great job.
Love those jerseys and the dubski
