Schwarber for a potential outfield spot?

  1. I doubt it. He has a negative WAR when he plays the outfield and is one of the worst fielders in the entire game. Our outfield is already pretty bad with Ramos and Lee.

  2. I hope this is just Posey doing due diligence on all the available FAs because the last thing we need is another poor defensive DH only type player

  3. This would definitely mean Bryce Eldridge is going to be traded for a pitcher. Unless, they flip Devers.

  4. Wouldn’t be the giants if they didn’t pick up a washed up player who was big 5+ years ago

  5. Buster: “Hi, just checking in to see how $35M/3y sounds. No? OK, thanks for taking my call!”

  6. Wait, so they don’t want to spend money, but are checking on Schwarber? Is this just a PR move because the fans justifiable got angry over them apparently not wanting to spend to sign Imai?

  7. There’s less than a 5% chance he’s leaving Philly. They’re gonna cough it up to keep him.

  8. Can’t hurt to check in on one of the best hitters in baseball.

There’s always a tiny chance his market dips and he’s the cheapest option to add a big bat, but that would likely mean Eldridge spends much of the year in AAA. And in the near-zero chance they flip Eldridge in a package for an ace or huge upgrade at second/corner outfield, Schwarber would be an amazing addition as the primary DH.

But I think those outcomes are at best almost zero

  9. God no, we already have enough DH types and Schwarber on defense would give back every single run he created on offense, especially in an outfield like SF’s

  10. So they’re willing to go after an over-priced Schwarber, but not a phenom Imai who wants to “take down” the evil empire, Dodgers?! That’s one way to lose fans.

  11. I don’t want him. He might have 1 good year left? Maybe.. it’s all regression from here. Plus he can’t play defense. I’m good. Spend that money elsewhere.
