Buxton number 5:
Buxton is willing to waive his no-trade clause — and not just for Atlanta (he’s a Georgia native) — which puts the Twins in an interesting position. If the paucity of frontline free agent outfielders prompts a team to make an offer for Buxton, how seriously would Minnesota take it? And if Buxton goes, does that mean the Twins would be open to dealing some of their pitching, too? The Twins are one of the most fascinating teams this winter because of the possibilities at their disposal.
Trade chance: 35%
Fits: Braves, Mets, Tigers, Reds, Phillies, Royals
Joe Ryan at number 6:
For all the rumors about Ryan at the trade deadline, the Twins never came close to finalizing a deal. If the cost remains high for free agent pitching, teams could turn to trades to fill their rotation holes, at which point Minnesota again would be a match for just about anyone. Having three of the eight best trade candidates is a good place to start a rebuild.
Trade chance: 50%
Fits: Red Sox, Mets, Orioles, Rangers, Giants, Astros
Pablo Lopez at number 8:
With No. 2 starter potential, Lopez would slot into every big league rotation. He is signed for two more years at a reasonable $43 million. Similar to Ryan, he’s eligible for free agency after the 2027 season, and with the coming expiration of the collective bargaining agreement, teams are pricing in the potential of lost games in ’27 to any trade offer, making deals for players with two years of control particularly tricky.
Trade chance: 50%
Fits: Mets, Orioles, Giants, Astros, Padres
Ryan Jeffers also noted as a “could be moved”
Just as an FYI. Trading all 4 would “save” a projected $49.2m. Taking the overall projected Twins payroll to just $47m.
The Twins would have to add approx $30m to avoid a grievance from the MLBPA.
Oh, and Carlos Correa’s 10m is included in that number
Pohlads will trade him right after they talk to the chefs at target field so they can offset it with lasagna in a plastic Twins cap.
If they fumbled so hard that Buck waives his no trade clause, I will probably drop this team forever..
Dramatic? Yes. Necessary? Until the Pohlads grimey hands are severed from this organization, also yes
Ownership DGAF so yeah they’re open to whatever.
I hate that this is my team.
Absolutely trade Buxton. If they are going to tear it all down then now is the time. Buxton was healthy all year and his value will never be higher considering he always gets injured.
That said, I love Buxton and don’t want him to go. However if you to “make the baseball decision” this is the way to go.
Id be open to buying tickets in the 300 section and swan diving onto the pavement outside of the stadium. Fuck this team
Looks like I’ll be following whichever team Buck goes to until this team gets new ownership. They really do not give a flying fuck about the fans.
I know i’ve said it before. But I will reiterate it.
I think moving Lopez and Ryan does make sense in terms of a rebuild. Now could we turn Ryan into Eldridge…?
Obviously i want ownership to spend. But when they are refusing (and unfortunately we cant force them out), I think freeing up 30m in salary between those two players, whilst restocking the farm for the next run is smart.
But i just cannot justify it when it means Buxton will be moved. Byron has been Mr Minnesota for the last 10 years. And we are throwing him away for cheap incompetent ownership. And that is unforgivable.
I also do not trust Falvey to get the best deals. His track record in receiving prospects is spotty at best. Duran and Ryan in were home runs. But that is mostly it.
Fuck the Pohlads. I hope every single one of their businesses folds.
Race to the bottom. Owners saw that pirates model and said sign me up for that.
This is getting fuckin criminal now
ill commit seppuku in the middle of target field on opening day if buxton is not in center field
Love Buck but now is definitely the time to move him.
This shit is going to be my 13th reason why I swear /s
Can we just change our name to the Minnesota A’s?
If my local AAA wasn’t for the Dodgers, I would be so done with this team forever but I just can’t make myself like dodgers.
The pohlads are ruining the twins, but let’s not forget about the fact that baseball was ruined long ago by the MLB by never implementing a salary cap and floor.
Let’s face the real music here, even without the pohlads you need to keep up with the top 5 teams in spending to even have a remote chance and at the end of the day the dodgers and yankees will always field an all star filled roster making this sport completely uncompetitive.
TLDR: Fuck the Pohlads, but also fuck the MLB.
Brace for impact. He’s gone… When news like this is casually dropped, there’s a deal pretty close to being done.
I feel sorry for people who hold out hope and remain emotionally invested in this team.
All the Pohlads care about is reducing operating costs. That’s it. They don’t believe in investing, They don’t care about running. They want clean financial sheets so they can inflate the team’s value so they can use it to prop up their other businesses.
If this was from Doogie or some local guy Id be skeptical.
But Passan is really plugged in, so this is probably true.
Get ready for the lowest payroll in MLB next year, fellas.
Imagine this shit show was happening when Mauer played and he waived his no trade clause. I don’t blame anyone for no longer supporting this team
If I was a multi-billionaire, I would buy the Twins, spend to get and retain solid talent, give all the little perks and niceties to players, coaches, and staff, and make the games a fun and affordable experience for fans. My goal would be that the biggest grumble about the team would be Minnesota is chilly in April. Come on Pohlads, you’re rich. Live a little, and go for a ring.
Burn it down. Maybe they can pick up JJ McCarthy from the Vikings to pitch for us as well just to really add the nail in the coffin. Now Justin Jefferson needs to leave as well just to add the cake topper to MN sports this year. I mean at least the Timberwolves and Wild look poised to get us to the playoffs and shit the bed again, so that something.
Buck deserves better. We all do. FTP.
I hate this fucking organization.
I’m a fanatic sports fan- I follow pro baseball, pro/college football, pro/college basketball, hockey, golf, and tennis (to varying degrees). That’s a lot of different sports to split my attention, but baseball has been my favorite for a long time. Despite that, the way this organization has conducted itself essentially since the end of the Astros series has completely depleted my interest in following Twins baseball. There’s just no reason to have hope these days, and with so many other things I can devote my time to, it’s hard to imagine I’ll watch many Twins games in the coming years.
I don’t care about the Twins anymore. I do however care about Buxton and think he has given his all to this team and deserves a chance to go somewhere and win.
If healthy, I honestly believe he has the skills to be a top 5 player in baseball… well maybe not anymore as he ages but he is a true 5 tool guy when healthy.
I have a Facebook memory from 2013 or 2014 or something talking about “Atleast Buxton is coming soon, Hope the next decade will be better”
lol what a waste of my time.
Do it. Not because I want Buck to leave, but to let Buck *live.*
He’s wasted talent in the current organization.
I’ve said that Buxton leaving would be the last straw for following this franchise until the Pohlads and also this front office is gone. It’s going to be a long, sad baseball season if Buxton leaves and I have to stick to my word.
Fuck this ownership/front office, truly turning away lifetime fans since fucking Puckett man
You have not even begun to suffer.
– the Pohlads
Personally I’d like to see just how low the payroll can go.
Is the plan just to try to suck as much as possible? Because it seems like it is.
Why would one have an effect on the other? They aren’t paying Pablo or Ryan…or Buck. But at least the silver spoon squad gets to keep their revenue sharing etc. 🙄
Farm team
I’m not giving this team a DIME until the Pohlads are gone
Everyone, everywhere, all at once: FUCK. THE. POHLADS.
At this point I actually hope we trade him, Ryan, Pablo and Jeffers. Don’t let those guys careers just become meaningless. I won’t watch the team if they do (probably won’t if they don’t either) but at least let them compete
If they deal Buck and Joe Ryan I think the Saints will be the most talented baseball team in the state
