🔴LIVE 🔴Arizona Cardinals VS Tampa Bay Buccaneers/Week 14 / NFL Envivo/Madden NFL 26
It’s just about game time as we’re settled into Tampa’s Raymond James Stadium. Tonight should be a good one, Brock, as we honor John Madden with our Thanksgiving celebration series between the Arizona Cardinals and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Chad Ryland will have the honor of getting us started. for Arizona. And we’re off from Tampa. On the return, here comes Cameron Johnson. And he’s brought down just inside the 25. So, here come the Buccaneers ready for their opening drive. And at the helm coming off a career best performance in year seven here in the NFL, the number one overall pick back in 2018 out of Oklahoma, Baker Mayfield. There’s just certain quarterbacks, the way they run on the field, you just say their name and just some adjectives and attributes pop up right away. For Baker Mayfield, scrappy, tough, a will to win. I’m not surprised at all to see himself back in the starting role. Not surprised at all to seeing him flourish. The dude is mentally tough. He’s mentally strong and he typically makes the most of his opportunities. And some excellent work to drive them all the way up past the 30 yd line. They come through with a nice gain of 10 and a first down. When you script that first 15, Kate, and that first play is a run play, you can’t do it better than that. First down now. Ball at the 33. Once again, Irving and he’s going to manage a lone yard on that drive up the gut. Jaylen Thompson, the man on the tackle. Kate, that’s a run. the tow h on the stat sheet, but if you see a bigger play on the ground later on, it’ll largely be because of a play just like that one softening up the front and opening the door for a bigger gap in the future. Following that little two-yd run, it’s second and eight. Off the play fake, here’s Mayfield. This is hauled in by an on the right side and he’s downed after getting this up to the 41. complete the rookie from Michigan there that time. When you see play action, do all you can to get your eyes to the tight end because that’s their bread and butter. That play action gives him time off the line, helps chip a rusher or even helps sell that fake and then when he releases, he gets out. He gets some leverage. He gets to that edge before the defender can cover him. Got his man. It’s in and he has it up towards midfield before he’s taken down at the 47. Five yd gain. Five yards on that play and enough for a new set of downs. You know, Kate, they say a dog is a man’s best friend. Tight end that moves the chains on third down, that’s a QB’s best friend. Here’s first and 10 from the 47. Baker now off the play fake. And this one is knocked away from the intended target. Good start for the defense here as that incompletion brings up second down. Wait for that big shot. They wanted to get that highlight the first time they touched the football. Yeah, this group likes to be aggressive. An early incompletion’s not going to deter them. Sharpshooters, they don’t stop shooting threes because of one brick and they won’t stop pushing this ball down the field either. Throwing again is Baker. We’ve got a screen to the running back and the defense waiting for him at the line and he goes down. Number seven, he specializes in salvaging broken plays out of the back field, but even he couldn’t get anything out of that one, Kate. That defense, they were all over it. Third and 10. Can this offense get it done? Baker throwing again. That one is incomplete. Couldn’t hang on through the contact. Going to have to wait a little longer for his first catch of the game. So that brings up fourth and long. So they couldn’t throw for it on third down and as a result they’re headed off the field earlier than expected on their opening series. Keeping him off the scoreboard. Well, that’s already a win defensively. Not letting him even cross midfield. That’s the cherry on top. And a fair catch made here at the 17. So here come the Cardinals now as they get sent for their opening drive and bringing them out in his 10th season. Now, a veteran who minimizes turnovers better than almost anyone here in the NFL, Jacobe Brassette. Jacobe Brassette has seen some adversity in this league. Occasional starting opportunities as well, and he’s hung around because he knows how to take care of the football. He can still throw it deep with the best of him, but he’s the type of guy you just trust. You trust that he can come in, that he can manage the offense, and he can win a game if needed. Just a gain of one, and that brings up second and nine. I don’t think that’s the amount that they were looking for there, Kate. Going to lead to some shuffling around here in the playbook. Find a more aggressive call on second. At the 19 yd line, last run only gained a yard. That means it’s second and nine. Finds the in route complete. And he’s able to get it to the 21 as he goes down. I’m not going to lie. I know they got a completion and completions you never turn them down, but to make that throw for those yards into double coverage, that is way too much risk for that reward. Third down. They need seven. They’ll throw. Third and long. Connects with Harrison again and he’s brought down after a short game. You can earn your money in the NFL in all sorts of different ways, but defensively in a league where you’re just not hitting as much in training camp, you’re not tackling as much as they got to in the old days. When you can make a play in the open field, keep them short like that, I promise you some money will follow and he hauls it in right near the 40 yd line. Well, Brock, this game, like all of our games this week, one piece of our John Madden Thanksgiving celebration weekend, a way that the NFL, and all of us here at EA Sports honor a legendary figure in the history of this game on a holiday he held dear. So, for Brock, myself, everybody on our great EA Sports crew, hope you had an excellent Thanksgiving, everybody, and a great weekend of football. Good starting field position for the Buccaneers. First and 10. Drive begins with a run by Irving. Lee swarms in the middle. This gets maybe a yard. Josh Sweat making the stop. This offense is now left with some ground to make up a little bit here on second down after that drive starts with a very minimal gain. Need a better result than that last run. It’s second and eight. They’ll empty the back field and motion him out from the gun. Mayfield complete to his man Sterling Shepard. Gain of about eight here. Nice pick up, but he’s stopped a second before he can move those chains. Good luck defending that short yardage slant. Just not going to happen. There’s a reason this is a go-to play for just about any quarterback in every situation. Here we go. Goal line formation coming out on third and inches. Mayfield keeps it himself and his short gain gets the manu set it down. Kate, is there a simpler play in football that’s come to life more than the QB sneak? We see all different varieties now, but it has become so darn effective. And when you got a tough QB that wants to put it on his shoulders, you sign up for it. Play fake. It’s Mayfield. Catch made left side by Ibuka and on first down only gets about a yard here and the defender there to force him out. Out of bounds at the 44 yd line. A gain of two brings up second and eight. Eight yds to go and let’s see how they approach this second down. They’ll motion him out of the back field. Baker now from the gun throwing the out route complete and he’s going to be driven out of bounds. The gain gets this down inside the 35. 10 yards. They come through with a nice gain there. Gain of 10. First down. Now the completion rate is strong, partner. The yards you got to imagine will start to come soon enough. You never go broke taking a profit. And you know this one too, Kate. The crumbs always lead to Oh, the cookie. Now I’m hungry. And the receivers’s going to take this one on the jet sweep. And the defense wise to that call there. Receiver wrapped up for no gain. Third down coming up. That right there, Kate, that just shows the level of preparedness this defense had coming into the game. They recognized the Jets sweep from the start and they nail it right at the line of scrimmage. Well, nothing doing on the last run. It’s second and 10. Godwin sets in motion right. Shotgun snap for Mayfield. Has him on the quick hitter and he’s tackled for a short gain. That’s not a big completion on a stat sheet, but that’s a big contested what I call gritty catch right there. And that’s what the best tight ends will get you. This eightplay drive might be on its last legs here, partner, as they try to figure out this third and seven. Throw here. Third down. Short pass brought in. They got the football, Brock, but not the first. That stopped just shy of the marker. Fourth down. Those kind of completions are so frustrating, Kate. It’s like a putt. You got it online. You feel good about it. It’s going in the hole, but you never want to leave it short. On fourth down, the Buccaneers try to put three on the board with Chase Mclofflin. This is a 42 yd look from the left hash. The kick by Mclofflin is good. And that’s going to give them their first points of the ball game. Buccaneers three, Cardinals nothing. You’d expect him to make most of those attempts from this distance, but it’s never a lock. So, they’ll happily take this and finish off the drive with points. Chase Mclofflin. Mclofflin has it on the team and he’s ready to send this flying. Here’s Greg Dorch with a return. And this drive will start inside the 25. Now we get set to see the Cardinal offense for the second time. And they haven’t gotten very far into their opening script yet, have they? Just a three and out to begin this game. The Arizona offense looks ready to go. Here’s first and 10. Drive starts with an option right side. This drives quickly headed in the wrong direction. First play set down behind the line. So some immediate revenge for that last play. Brock, I don’t know. What do you think? Is it going to take away the pain from giving up that big run, the prior play? Not necessarily, because it really does take a group failure to give up a big run like that in the NFL, but it also takes a whole lot of teamwork to knock them behind the sticks. Job well done there. Operating from the gun, Brissette. That’s too far in front and it’s not going to be caught. That’s a throw at this level. So much speed and length. You got to be real careful. Rarely do you find a clean window down the middle. Got to be absolutely perfect and it wasn’t there. Last pass unsuccessful. See what they do on third down. Here he goes. Third and long. setting up the running back screen. Play not developing as they had hoped. So that’s a loss of yardage, Brock. Fourth down coming up. Not terribly complicated on this one. Just not the third down screen you wanted to run. Little chance they were getting the first and apparently little chance they were going to even gain a positive yard at all. The Cardinals out for the punt. Cameron Johnson back deep to receive this one for the Bucks. And this is out of bounds on the bounce. One of the shortest kicks we’ve seen. That’s short of the 30 yd line. The Buccaneer offense back out for another series. They’ve got an early three nothing lead as they take over here. Tampa Bay bringing the offense to the line. It’s first and 10 on the give. This is Irving and he works his way for a gain of four. You know, Kate, that might be a little bit of a disappointing run to him. He wanted more. They always do. That’s exactly what they were after offensively to get this drive moving. Second and six at the 23 yd line. Four yardds on that first down run. Here’s second and six. Mayfield now from the gun. Defenders there and he forces the incompletion. Good play to bring about this third down. There’s the importance of staying in phase as a defender. He was all over him in coverage and that really did help force the incompletion. So after that prior incompletion, it’s third down. To the air on third and long. He’ll dump this one off to his running back complete and the pass is stopped before it can get to the first. Great tackle there to bring up fourth down. I call this quarterback’s best friend. Some call it a safety valve, some call it automatic, but it’s sure nice as a quarterback when you got a trusty running back over the middle of the field that you can depend on. Here we go. It’s Mayfield. This interception is also dropped, but they’re still going to take possession as the incomplete pass forces a turnover on downs here. You know, Kate, I don’t think I’ve ever met a defender that cares. All they want to do is get off the field. Doesn’t matter if it’s a drop pass, deflection breakup, even an interception. Challenged by the offense to get one more stop to get off the field. And that’s exactly what they did. Cardinals into formation. It’s first and 10 from the shotgun. Brousette completed over the middle and they take him down at the 24 yd line. That’s what you call efficiency. Exactly what you’re looking for on first down. Textbook. It sets up second and very manageable and then creates that space if you want to take a shot downfield. After a good pickup, they’ve got second and four. Here’s a game to De Marcado. No luck there. Ran that one right into traffic and went nowhere. As a result, it’s going to be third down. You know, Kate, over the years, I’ve heard running backs say, “There’s just sometimes you got to run into darkness. Just go where there is no lane and hope that something opens along the way.” That linebacker said, “Uh-uh, not this time.” Chance to move the chains here on third and four. Shotgun now for Brassette. Trying to get away from the pressure, but he can’t. And they drop him. And the defense comes through to back him up ahead of fourth down. Even from the booth, Kate, I could hear it. I could hear that front seven telling the guys on the back end, “Hey, all I need is a couple seconds of lock down from you guys and I’m going to get to this QB. You promise. see you deliver. And that’s exactly what they did. Wasted no time in getting that sack. Matt Hawk to punt the Cardinals. And they could really use a good one here. And he’s had a very busy game already, Brock. Third time they’ve called on him as he gets this away. Only a solitary field goal so far as we’re through one quarter. Just three to nothing is our score. More from Raymond James Stadium coming up after the break. What the back for the start of quarter number two. It’s Buccaneers football as we begin. They’ll have it here after forcing that punt to end the first. First down. Here’s Baker. This is hauled in by on the right side and he’s going to be hit sent out after about a gain of one maybe two yards there. Quarterbacks will look for their tight end short in just about any situation. They take away the deeper options. Well, there’s their consistent source of positive yardage, the trusty tight end. Second down now. They need seven. Throwing Baker. It’s a big strike downfield to Abuka and they take him down just as he gets inside that red zone. So 20 yards on that play and the Bucks have the first. It sure seemed like he knew exactly where he was going with that right off the snap. So a new set of downs. Here we go. First and 10. Here’s the give to Irvy. Can’t slip that initial tackle. Stops made for no gain on that first down play. I know from the position of the quarterback Kate, sometimes you hand that ball, you put it in the belly of the running back and you send him right into the teeth of a buzzsaw. You can feel it from the jump and that call from the defense. Well, it came at the perfect time. Here’s Baker to throw. Finds a short after a mild game. Mecca Ibuka. A gain of five brings up third and six. Third and six for them to figure out now. Empty back field now. Running back motions out left. The shot to the end zone is incomplete. Sterling. So they take their shot at the end zone, Brock, rather than focusing on that first down marker. And now they’ve got a decision to make. Yeah, I think with that incompletion, they made the decision. You better send that field goal team on. They took their shot. They just couldn’t finish it. On fourth down, the Buccaneers trying to put three on the board with Chase Mclofflin. He connected once and a good chance here. This is inside of 35. The kick by Mclofflin is good and their special teams converts to get them something out of that possession. Cardinals nothing. Okay. One of the areas that kickers and quarterbacks are similar, they want to get into rhythm. And no better way to feel good and get into that rhythm and start a game two for two as a kicker. Chase Mclofflin. Mclofflin has it on the team and he’s ready to send this fly on the return. Here comes Immari de Marcado. This manages to get just beyond that 30 yd line. take over. The Cardinals in possession of it once again and it’s not good, Brock, when you’re discussing their punter, uh, as one of your early game MVPs, but they just haven’t been able to get anything going so far. No, you’ll hear some old school coaches, especially defensive minded coaches, Kate, and they’ll say, “Hey, man, there’s nothing wrong with the drive ending with a kick, right?” Mhm. As a quarterback and as an offense, maybe that was the way you played the game back in the day, but not modern football. You’ve got to go score. Reset now on first and 10. He had it for a moment, but a great defensive play to jar it loose. Incomplete. Trying to find Trey McBride. And that’ll bring up second down. It’s been plays like that that have kept this game scoreless and they can’t execute. It will continue to do so after the incompletion. Still at that 31 yd line. Second and 10. De Marcado on the carry. And whatever they were trying to do there is not going to work. Defenders all over it as they take him down for a loss. That goose egg up on the scoreboard, Brock. That is not going away anytime soon if they keep having plays like that. They really need something. An injection of energy here. Nothing will take the spark out of a series quite like getting stuck for a loss. Third down. It’s just got it away before the hit, but it doesn’t matter. It’s incomplete. Fourth down coming up. Safe to say there’s been an early disconnect between the planning phase and the execution phase for this offense. Might be time, Kate, really to get back to basics to the calls that you just trust the most. So once again, Matt Hoff to punt this away. Johnson waiting on it. And that fair catch cors just beyond the 25 yd line. The Bucks take over. Time for us to get another look at this Tampa Bay offense. And they were able to contribute three points to the lead their last time out. Another chance to build on that advantage here. Bucks to the line. First and 10. We give to Irvy to start this drive. And he gets up for a gain of about four. the ball carrier. That’s one of those sneaky little runs, Kate, that gets you enough yards to create some doubt into that defensive coordinator. You could stick to the ground. You could throw beyond the sticks. You really create some indecision now defensively. They’ll come up after that fouryd gain. It’s second and six. Irving on the counter. This is close, but I think they stopped him short, partner. Yep. The spot’s at the 37. It’s going to be third down. It’s got to be so demoralizing as a defense when you go up against a running back who just keeps those legs churning like a piston in an engine. And that effort’s contagious. This entire offense is getting a boost when he busts those tackles. QB sneak coming. They were loaded and ready for that sneak, weren’t they? They stop him at the line. No gain. That’s more than a must get for a quarterback. I really put that in the always get territory. Even if the defense knows what’s coming, you got to be able to drive forward for at least a couple inches. New set of downs for him. They’ll start at the 38. They send the tight end in motion. First down looking to throw Mayfield. Right side hauled in by Godwin. And he’s quickly taken down with a gain across midfield. They’re now to the opposing 47. That play gains 15 and it moves the sticks. First and 10 at the 47 yd line. They like to say it’s about the jimmies and the Joe’s. I think that’s about the X’s and the O’s. That’s a well drawn up completion that nets them a first down. Here’s first and 10 from the 47. Irving on the inside give and he’ll scurry forward for a pick up a three. Got to be rush hour, Kate, cuz there’s a whole lot of traffic up the middle right there. He ran right into some gridlock and he could only manage a few yards at most. Last run got him three. Here’s second and seven. Right back to Irvy now. And once again, he doesn’t manage much before getting brought down. Four yardds on the pickup and that’s going to leave him with third and three. You know, this is an offense that will emphasize the ground game at different points of each and every contest. And as long as they can reliably get gains like this, it’s not going to change anytime soon. Third and short, Mayfield. It’s complete. This is Anguka and he’s going to get this down to the nine. That puts him in goal to go. It’s a gain of 31 yds. That’s another Buccaneers first down. First and goal at the 9 yd line. I try to remind you a time or two, Kate, that you always got to start your read from the secondary forward. You got to see what the safeties are doing. If you’re going to throw a ball in the middle third deep downfield like that, you have to have tremendous awareness of where those safeties were. And the QB just nailed it. First and goal. Here’s Irving. And he’s going to haul it in for the Tampa Bay. Touchdown. The Buccaneers go up by 12. Touchdown Buccaneers. They kept it on the ground as opposed to airing it out. And that time, well, Brock, the ground game paid off. Well, these great rushing attacks down here that could score rushing touchdowns. It takes the whole party getting involved. Yeah, the burst of the running back was tremendous. How about the launch of his blockers right off the line of scrimmage? That’s a touchdown the entire way and it took the entire group offensively. On is Chase Mclofflin for the point after. Extra point sent right down the middle and the Buccaneers bump the lead up to 13 points. Cardinals nothing. Chase Mclofflin. Mclofflin has it on the team and he’s ready to send this fly. Dorch now to return it. And he’s going to make this to the 28th before going down. The Cardinals offense making its way out. And it’s far from the first time we’re seeing this unit head out, Brock. But what we haven’t seen so far in this opening half, well, we haven’t seen much in terms of yardage. No, it’s like they’ve written a few lyrics, but nowhere close to a song yet. Arizona offense looks ready to go. Here’s first and 10. A run here. This is D Marcado and they blow up the opening play of this drive. Love the aggressiveness from this defense. It is phenomenally tough to block this guy in a passing situation. Well, equally as tough to block him out there on the edge. He chased that toss down and I don’t envy these guys trying to block that monster today. Headed in reverse so far. Time to shift into drive. Here’s second and 14. Off the play fake. Br. defender arrives right as the ball does and the hit knocks it free. Incomplete. Working across the middle, Brock, it is tough for anybody to make plays through all that mess. Even Even when you’re the biggest and baddest pass catcher on the roster, but as a tight end, you’re going to be disappointed because that’s what you’re paid to do. It’s one thing for those undersized receivers you talk about, it’s another one for these big tight ends. You are paid to make that catch through contact and he couldn’t do it. Oh, he put everything he had into that throw. That one is incomplete. Couldn’t hang on through the contact. That one really stings, Kate, because you want to convert there and not only keep this drive going for points, but because now you’re giving your opponent a chance to go pad that lead before halftime. That’s a no no. This is Hawk now to put it away. And he’s going to do the honors for the fourth time today. And little to nothing on that return as the coverage team gets to him. The Buccaneers and Bucky Irving ready for their next possession. And I think they’d be content doing everything the same as their prior drive and getting another touchdown here. Good starting field position for the Buccaneers. First and 10. Off the play fake. Here’s Mayfield going to let this one fly deep downfield. He had it for a moment, but a great defensive play to jar it loose. Incomplete. Tried getting it into a Mecha Eggbuka. So that brings up second down. Defender is not going to be thrilled. The catch was almost made on his watch, but more importantly, he breaks it up. Gives him a chance to do a little giant after the play. Lets the other guy know he roughed him up and cost him that catch. He dropped it. He dropped the interception. That was a risky throw. A check down of all things. Nearly went the other way, but only an incompletion on second down. So far, this script, well, it’s dictated some early looks for this running back. And now you’re seeing the adjustment defensively. Not so easy on those checkdowns. Nowhere for that ball to go. Third down. Here’s Mayfield. And this is another incompletion. First time this game they’ve looked to him and they’re going to be stuck with a fourth and long. Kate is a quarterback. That is so rough. Incomplete. Incomplete. Incomplete. You’re go to the sidelines. You’re going to look at that tablet and you’re going to try to figure out how in the heck do we turn this around and some textbook work covering that punt. It is stopped after almost nothing on the return. Out had the Cardinals now on offense. And Brock, these guys are still searching. They are still searching for their first points, but beyond that, they don’t even have a first down yet. Not even one. No, they’re still searching. I know. Cardinals in the formation. It’s first and 10. That’ll run with D Marcado. And they’re going to bring him down just a moment before he’s able to break it across midfield. Oh, it’s a pick up of 26 yd and it’s going to give the Cardinals a first down. Cardinals first down. A gain of 26 yds. And a Cardinal first down. No frrills, nothing fancy. That was just a good old offensive line dominated in the trenches and that sprung him to get to the second level and beyond. First down and they go right back to him. He’ll cobble together a yard there. Yayabi brings him down. I think one thing you learn, Kate, when you transition from college to the NFL, not every run is going to be a big play. Some of them, well, they’re just destined to end in a minimal game. And some of them will set up that critical play action for later. Don’t play action here. Bruce, nothing doing there as the second down pass falls incomplete. Fairly safe to say as that one falls incomplete this first half so far, well, it’s not met the standard they set for themselves. No connection on the last play. And now it’s third down. Third and long for him here. Pocket isn’t holding up. They’re able to drop him. And they come out big on third down there with the set. This defense just coming to life before our eyes. K. Taking advantage of the situation they’re in. You just feel their creativity. Right. When you get a lead like this, it just allows you to be a little looser, to play a little bit faster, and to continue to make an impact that time with a sack. Matt Hawk out there for the punts. And this is the fifth time he’s been called upon today. And he’s brought down before the return gets far. The Buccaneers and Bucky Irving ready for their next possession. They were only on the field for three plays their prior series, Brock. Let’s see what changes they make to take over here. Tampa Bay bringing the offense to the line. It’s first and 10. Baker now off the play fake. Defender arrives right as the ball does and the hit knocks it free. Incomplete. You know, the goal on a lot of these short throws is to simply let the receiver create some yards after the catch. That yak. Well, I think he was thinking about the yak before he actually secured the catch. Still 10 to go. Second down now from the 23. Throwing again is Baker. Catch made left side by Ibuka. And he’s taken down just a couple of yards shy of the 40. It’s a great pick up 16 yds. And now they’ve got first down. First down. First and 10. I may love watching a great thrower, but I love watching a well done route too, Kate. Make that guy think you’re trying to stack them only to drop your hips and cut right inside. Some good work to help reset those chains. New set of downs for him. They’ll start at the 38. On first down, they’re going to run with Irving. He’s able to drive that pile about a yard. Tackle there from Dvin Tomlinson. tackled at the 40 yd line. One yd gain brings it’ll be second down and nine but not just yet. Only a couple of minutes to go in our first half. It’s the Bucks who are in front here at Raymond James. They’ll come to the line here. Second and nine. Mayfield to throw. Finds him over the middle and just gets back to the line of scrimmage. That’s a defense’s goal, right Kate? just get us to third down so we can have a chance to get off the field. And that was a good adjustment on that stop in particular when the back ended up being the target and they were able to keep him short of the sticks. Third down here. Need eight on the play. He’ll air it out on third. He’s going for it himself and he’s going to be brought down in enemy territory now at the 46. They’ll get 14 yds and a new set of downs. That’s good for a first down. As long as these are the results he’s getting, they’re going to be just fine with him calling his own number. He does such a good job of seeing the field and knowing when it’s his time to take it himself. Irving here from the gun and he sneaks this through the middle. Maybe a gain of two. Sometimes just feel like in the background of every hoham run is a bigger play that just needed one more component. hit that extra block a little longer, find the lane quicker. The defender may be a half step late and this could have been much, much more exciting. Eight yds to go. Let’s see how they approach this second down. Straight ahead, it’s Irving into the second level past the 30 and he’s going to have this all the way down to the four. The Cardinals deciding to use the first of their three timeouts. They’ll have two left to work with before halftime. Buccaneers first down. First and goal at the four yd line. Big play got him to the doorstep, Brock. Four more yards now in goal to go. Irving and he’s only going to get two or three yards on that one. Arizona goes ahead and calls it second timeout. And they still have one in their pocket for what’s left of this half. Second and goal. Hey, I get it on first and goal, right? A lot of teams like to be conservative and limit risk. Even if a run is stopped short, you still got two, sometimes three downs to play with. Lining up on the doorstep. Second and goal from inside the one. Trying to run with Irving and he’s in for the touchdown. The Buccaneers boat racing them to the halftime locker room. Touchdown. It’s what every player who scores a touchdown wants to do, Brock. He wants to get right back there and put another six on the board. I’ve never met an NFL player content with one endzone trip in a game. Nope. Yeah, if you’re content, you’re not making it to this league. You get one, you’re instantly thinking of another. And the fortunate few are able to actually deliver on it. Mclofflin attack on the extra point. The point after splits the upright and the Buccaneers push the lead to 20. 20 Cardinals nothing. Chase Mclofflin. has it on the team and he’s ready to send this fly. Dorchn to return it and he’s brought down just beyond that 25 yd line. Now come the Cardinals on offense late in the half. And losing by three scores, they’ll have a final chance to take at least three off that deficit. First call here coming from the shotgun. Here’s Brassette to throw. Dump off caught by his back. This one up to about the 27 yd line. That play made by Jacob Parish. It may not look like much on the stat sheet, but this is kind of good on good. An offense gets a completion, not going backwards. And the defense, well, they rallied. They pursued and kept that screen to a minimal game. Eight yds to go. And let’s see how they approach the second down. looking to throw. Gets this one to Harrison and he’ll get taken down after advancing this to the 37. So, we’ve reached halftime. Brock in a lopsided contest so far. Let’s hear what Scott Hansen has to say. He’s got our EA Sports halftime report. All right, Kate. Thanks very much. Welcome in everyone to the Orlando studios. Scott Hansen with you for a quick recap of the first half which has been strongly one-sided. This is heading towards blowout territory. Unless they can come from behind and get themselves a victory. Let’s find out what happens in the second half. Let’s go back out to the commentary team, Kate Scott and Brock Huard. Thank you, Scott. Great work there. We uh on the other hand, didn’t have a great first half. Here’s hoping things get a little bit closer this time around as we get set for quarter number three. Mclofflin has it on the team and he’s ready to send this fly. Dorch now to return it. Coverage team gets him down at the 26 yd line. Arizona has the football first to start the third and here comes its offense in that first half. They just couldn’t keep up the pace, but they’re going to be the ones setting the pace here to begin this third quarter. The Arizona offense looks ready to go. Here’s first and 10. They’ll go play action. Working the sideline. Oh, he got it. Drug the feet. That’s a catch. resets and he’s up to the 35 yd line as they reel him in. That is a textbook first down completion. Sets up second and very manageable and creates space to take that shot downfield. Just a yard left to go on second down. Here’s De Marcado. And they’ll stop him here, but not before he gets out to the 47 yd line. pick up of 12 on that play and it’s good enough for an Arizona first down. Having been in enough locker rooms at halftime, Kate, I know what the messaging was in there. Start the game out by sending a message. Doesn’t matter you’re trailing, run right at him and go make a point. On first down, it’s Br into the hands of Michael Wilson and they’re going to be set up just outside that red zone. How about 29 yds on first down? And that’ll set him up with a fresh set of downs. Cardinals first down. A gain of 29 yds. First down Cardinals. From a great throw to a nice route and catch to moving the chains, there wasn’t a whole lot not to like about that amazing play. with it on first. Completed over the middle and they’ve got him down near the red zone at the 22. You know, I often say there is a fine line between aggressiveness and carelessness. And when you throw into double coverage, well, it can go either way. That time, a tremendous catch by his receiver on the other end. Eight yds to go. Let’s see how they approach this second down. Blitz coming. Brousette connects with Harrison again and he’s got a decent gain before being brought down. Well, he saw his guys pick up the blitz. Well, he felt them pick it up anyway if he wasn’t looking at him. But with their effort on his behalf, I think this QB felt owed to them and the group up front to find somebody to get a completion so that effort up front wasn’t in vain. Now sets on third and short. Left side caught by Dorch and they make the stop as that play reaches the 14 yd line. It’s a fouryd gain and that’s going to get him across the marker and earn the first. Sure seems like he knew exactly what he wanted and he got it going right where he wanted to with the ball off the snap. And keep this drive moving partner. Here’s another first and 10. loan back in the back field and he gets the hand off and he’ll pick up a little down to the 12 yd line. The tackle made only two yds and it brings up second and eight. It’s second and eight. Shotgun now for Brassette. and he doesn’t see a window he likes, so he just got rid of that one. Then brings up third down. There was almost no resistance offered against a rush that came off the line ready to maul anything in sight. It was all the QB could do to get rid of that before he gets absolutely clobbered. Ninth play of the drive coming up. They need eight yds here on third down. Here he goes. Third and long. And to the ground he goes, sliding to a stop. Well shorts here and that’s going to bring up fourth down. I love that play. I I That’s quarterback 101. Nothing downfield. Get what you can with your legs, but so much more importantly, protect yourself. Availability, one of the most important abilities for any quarterback. A full quarter to go, but they feel like they got to make their move now. They are going for this. going for it on fourth. Brousette has it in close and in for the Arizona touchdown. The Cardinals cut into the lead coming out of halftime. It seems like a lot of the time, Brock, even if the results aren’t quite as flashy every rep, tight ends are even more reliable scorers than a lot of receivers are when it comes to the passing game. Yeah, I would agree with that. But there’s also a lot more real estate for them to work with, right? Think of the receivers. They got to deal with the sidelines. That 12th defender, many of these tight ends, they’ve got a ton of field to work with. And when they prove to the quarterback they can be a difference maker, he’ll look for him on his Chad Ryland for the point after. Right down the middle. It’s good. And the Cardinals drop the lead back to 13. Cardinals seven. All set now for the kickoff. Ryland with the honors. On the return, here comes Shawn Tucker. He’s brought down at what looks like the 24 yd line. The Buccaneers and Bucky Irving ready for their next possession. And after the impressive drive we just witnessed, you got to imagine that they are hoping to respond with something similar. Yeah. And I don’t love to use the word can’t, right? But this can’t be a three and out for this offense right here. They got to give their defense a chance to catch a breath and turn some of the momentum in the building. All right, working from the gun to start. First and 10. Drive begins with a run by Irving and into a sea of bodies he goes. Looks like they’ll get about three out of it. That’s the kind of yardage that’s not going to kill this drive on the first play, but it does put you a little bit behind schedule. Now second down becomes critical cuz nobody wants a three and out after the three yd pickup. It’s second and seven once again. Irving he’s coralled after a modest fouryd gain. That’s a look out of Michigan. Will Johnson in on the tackle. You know Kate, it’s plays like that. It’s just kind of the meat and potatoes. Not going to make any highlight reel, but just the positive efficient plays on the ground. You need to keep plays and drives alive. Short yardage situation here. It’s third and two. Slot man motioned over on third and two. Here’s Mayfield. Complete beyond the marker. And he’s going to get this up close to the 40 before going out. Call it seven yds on the play and that’s enough for the first down. Nice to see that connection, that chemistry working between the two of them. So, fresh set of downs now from the 39. Tight end in motion left on the give. This is Irving. And this is going to be down to it looks like about the opposing 36 for their next snap. It’s a 24 yd gash and it gives them the first down. That’s another Buccaneers first down. First and 10 at the 36 yd line. Those unsung heroes, those big guys up front on the O line. Well, let’s give them a little love right here, Kate. They don’t always get the attention they deserve on a broadcast, but let me tell you, they played a huge role in that big old run. First down. Here’s Baker brought in left side by Godwin and they bring him down. Looks like he got it to the 27. Hey, you like these results on first. That completion right there, right in the window where all options are now available to you on second down. that playbook wide wide open. Nice spot here for the offense. It’s second and one. Here’s the give to Irvy and he’s going to be stopped, but not before he gets it down to the 14. Big gain. 14 on the play. And that will be a Tampa Bay first down. What a great sign to start the second half for this offense because with a lead, well, the ground game becomes your best friend. the centerpiece for this offense trying to chew up that clock. Mayfield on first and 10 out left and Autton makes the grab and he’ll get this inside the 10 to the nine. You know, Kate, over the years I have heard defensive coordinators say, “Hey, you got to earn the right to rush your pass. You got to earn the right for me to call blitzes.” And when you call a blitz and you don’t get home and you don’t hit the quarterback, you’ve earned nothing. This is second and six coming up. Now a carry by Irving. Well, even a great game is going to have its lesser moments. He can’t get anything out of that carry. Stop for no gain. The presence of those tight ends worked both ways, Brock. You know, this gives them more blockers up front, but it also clues the defense in to be ready for that run. Yeah, you could put seven blockers up there. even even put eight, I don’t know, nine. All the blockers in the world, but if they don’t work in concert together to create a lane, it doesn’t matter. Third down. Here’s Mayfield. Throw is caught and that is a Tampa Bay touchdown. The Buccaneers make it a threepossession game. Touchdown Buccaneers. Well, Brock, not much to say other than the fact that this offense on point. They are just clicking today. Just rolling. I mean, this this is clinic. This is what I call teaching tape. Being well prepared and more importantly going out there and executing at a high level. All right, here we go. Brock Todd Bulls believing in his offense. They’re going for two. The Bucks will set up for the two-point conversion. Mayfield’s going to look to throw this and he’s got a man complete. He’s almost there, but no, they stop him at the last moment. He’s going to be just inches shy in that two-point conversion. Mclofflin has it on the team and he’s ready to send this fly. De Marcado bringing it back. He stopped on the run back at the 27. The Arizona offense ready to get things going again. They’re running out of time to get this game into a more manageable spot. Brock, we’ve got a three-scored deficit and we’re in quarter number three. First look, a little pistol formation as they come to the line. First and 10. from the pistol brassette. That’s Dorch on the slant and he’s up to the 35 yd line as they reel him in. It’s a gain of eight. Brings up second and two at the 35 yd line. After a good pickup, they’re set up with second and short. operating from the gun. Brousette hits him on the out route and they’re going to bring him down just a moment before he’s able to break it across midfield. 12 yd 12 yds on that play and a good call nets him the first. Move the chains. Got to move them chain momentum and keep that defense on its heels. Here’s first and 10 from the 47. keeping this himself and keeping the zone read costs him. He takes a hit, loses some yards, too. It’s easy for me to say up here in the friendly confines of the booth cape, but that was not the right read. And you hate seeing him absorb yet another kid at the end of the play. You never want him taking unnecessary shots throughout this game. From the shotgun, Br. He puts some air under it deep down the left. lays out for this one. Oh, what a catch. It’s a huge pickup on the play and that will set up first and goal. 52 yds. That’s good for a Cardinals. First down. First and goal Arizona. The analytics are pretty clear. It’s hard to move the ball in this league with short little dinks and dunks. You’ve got to get the explosive chunk. You got to get the big play and that throw to the outside that gets the job done. Going play action here. Brassette looking right and he finds him. Touchdown Arizona. The Cardinals shrinking the lead some in the third. No hesitation on that throw. He got the guy he wanted right away and he got it to him for the touchdown. You know, it’s great, Kate, to draw plays that have all sorts of different options, but it’s even better when you don’t have to get to your second read. His first broke open just like they planned, and that’s six in the end. Ryland now for the extra point. Extra point. Extra point sent right down the middle and the Cardinals shave some of the lead. It’s down now to 12. Cardinals 14. All set now for the kickoff. Ryland with the honors. Tucker now on the return and he’s brought down inside the 20 on an uneventful effort. return. The Buccaneers and Baker Mayfield ready for this next possession. And he’ll be happy to keep letting it fly as much as he has all game. Look at these numbers. They show just how effective he’s been in captaining this offense. Bucks to the line. First and 10. We give to Irvy to start this drive. Dropped by the first guy he met. No gain on that first down run. This is one of those situations, Kate, where I watch the body language of the running back because it’d be very easy for him to raise his hands up. Look to the sideline in his O line and go, what am I supposed to do there? There was nothing, no time at all to try and escape and react. Instead, it goes backwards. Baker now from the gun finds him over the middle and he’s going to be stopped right around the 37. That’ll go for an 18 yd gain. And the Bucks have the first complete to Amecha Ibuka. First and 10 at the 37 yd line. You know, it sure seems like he knew exactly where he was going with that before the snap. That’s a pre-nap decision that led to a postnap first down. New set of downs from the 37. Going with Irving here. Finds a nice lane there and that’s good for six yards. The humble five to six yd gain on the ground. Not a huge gain, not a gamechanging play by any means, but one that keeps you on schedule and takes some of the starch out of that front seven. So, we’re through three here. The Buccaneers have that football partner and more importantly, they’ve got a good lead. offense to line. This is second and four. They’ll run this with Irving and he’s going to go down right along the midfield strike. Seven yds on that pickup and that will be a Tampa Bay first down. And the first most of the people watching will forget about that play in a couple minutes, but the coaches won’t forget. He has that filed away the next time he really needs to pick up a few yards. Baker now off to play fake. That one is incomplete. Couldn’t hang on through the contact. I think that was a throw, Kate, that just came a little bit too late. What it did is it gave that defense time to come up and deliver a pop and knock the ball loose before he could secure it fully. Second down. Still 10 to go after that incomplete pass. Throwing again is Baker. That’s incomplete left side. Well covered on that play. Really not a large window for him to sneak that throw in. Brings up third down and 10. No connection on the last play. Now it’s third down. Third and long for him here. That one’s good to Godwin. And he’s going to take this down to the 11 yd line. They get an even 40 out of that one. And the Bucks have the first. I love this Kate. No issues at all going to this receiver in the short field because they know at any time when this man touches the ball, he can transform a short completion into a big play. Shotgun hand off to Irving. Jes away from one and he’s going to haul it in for the Tampa Bay touchdown. The Buccaneers have likely locked up the win right there. Touchdown Buccaneers. K. It was just a couple years ago where we saw those running backs get to the market and not get their money. Well, a performance like this, this how you get paid. You show you can do it in a multitude of ways. Catch one for a touchdown through the air and pound three of them on the ground for six. Mclofflin attack on the extra point. The point after splits the upright good and the Buccaneers go up by 19. Buccaneers 33, Cardinals 14. Mclofflin has it on the team and he’s ready to send this fly. De Marcado bringing it back. This makes it up to the 25. The Arizona offense about set to get going here. And all game they have struggled to attack this deficit. Maybe they can do a little window dressing here. Cardinals in the formation. It’s first and 10. Here’s Brant complete. It’s Weaver and he’s up to the 35 yd line as they reel him in. It’s not just imperative that a quarterback knows man or zone. Same thing for a receiver, especially on a drag route. When he sees zone coverage like that, just settle down, find the soft spot, and give your quarterback a chance. Just a yard left to go on second down. has him on the quick hitter and they hit big there on that second down. Let’s see if this play holds up or not, though. We’ve got a penalty flag down. A game they were pretty happy with goes away via the penalty. And now we’re going to wait to see how they respond. Still second down. All right, here we go. Second down. Shotgun now for Brassette. He completes it in traffic and he’ll get taken down after advancing this to the 37. That one gains seven and it’s going to give the Cardinals a first down. Double coverage a dealb breaker for a lot of QBs Brock but less so when it’s a target you trust. You know, it’s interesting, Kate, even 20 something years ago watching Marvin Harrison and Pton Manning work. Every defense would go into every game trying to double cover him, but yet those two, well, like we just saw right there just got it done regardless. And there’s the stop, but he’s got nine yards on first down. So much to like about that run, Kate. Particularly what he was able to get out of it. The defense, I think, feels a little fortunate they were able to track him down before an even bigger run and crossing that first down marker. First down carry. Got him nine yardds. Here comes second and one. Shotgun snap. Looking to throw free inside the 30. And this one’s going to move him all the way down to the 25 yd line. It’s a 29 yd gain and it’s good enough for an Arizona first down. That’s good for a Cardinals first down. First and 10 at the 25 yd line. And those are the completions they rely on from their passing game. Coming to the line for another first and 10. They kick the run and back in motion. Brand with it on first. Too much lead on that throw. That falls incomplete ahead of his target. Well, you certainly want those throws to be automatic. every team. If you’re going to be efficient, you got to hit those passes in the short to intermediate zone to effectively move the ball in this league. Another try from the 25. It’s second and 10. Back to the air. Brassette gets another into the hands of Harrison and he’s brought down. They’re going to mark him at the 14. They gain 11 on that play and it’s going to give the Cardinals a first down. That right there is about the best you could hope for against double coverage. Good chunk of yards and more importantly, Brock, you don’t get burned taking a risk. Yeah, it’s really the defense that gets burned and that is just demoralizing. You got double coverage, you got what you want, and two guys can’t stop one. It’s Knight on the carry and they’re going to stop him after he wiggles his way forward for two. The ball carrier. The tackle made at the 12 yd line. A gain of two brings up second and eight. Following that little two-yd run. It’s second and eight. De Marano on the carry. And this is headed the wrong way. They’re going to lose yards here. It’s going to bring up third down. The difficult part is not tracking him out there. Almost every corner in the league’s got the speed to do that. What separates him from others is the physical. Can he avoid getting tied up in a block? And then can he deliver that blow for a loss? The Buccaneers go to the nickel. Third down. Here he goes. is third and long into the end zone, but someone’s able to knock it away. That’s incomplete. Great play defensively there to just get a hand in there and deny that touchdown. That’s exactly right. Active hands and aggressive mindset. As a DB, you’ve got to assume that every throw is going to be a touchdown. And you’re the last line of defense, the guy that’s got to make the play on the ball. And he just did. Here he goes. has got to have this on fourth down. No good. The pass goes incomplete and that lengthy drive ends with nothing but a turnover on downs. You know, these fourth down plays are all about trust. You lean into what you do best. Unfortunately, with the lack of execution, you’re going to throw that one off the playlist. offense into the shotgun set as they line this up. First and 10. Irving on the inside give and he’s stopped after ripping off an eight yd chunk. It’s second down. Cool thing about a drive starting run like that, Kate, is it really just gives you every opportunity in the playbook, whatever you want to do. But as for me, I like to reward that runner. Give it to him again and see if he can get you a new set of downs. After that little eight yd scoot, here comes second and two. Quick throw to the left is complete and he’ll go down after pushing this up to the 29. pick up a five on that play and that will be a Tampa Bay first down. First and 10 at the 29 yd line. field right side hauled in by Godwin and he is stopped as he reaches that 46 yd line that’s 16 on the pickup and the Bucks have the first I love throwing on first down and when you see a first down pass just like that it’s taking advantage of a matchup you plan for and you go out and execute first and 10 now from the 46 now it’s Irving And that’s only one yard up the middle. Going to be second down. Only thing I can say positive about the execution of that playain of a yard. At least he didn’t go backwards. Second and nine at the 47 yd line. Last run. Not a lot of help. Brock. Nine to go now on second down. Play fake. It’s Mayfield. Culp with a catch and he’s going to go down right along midfield strike. This defense didn’t give up contain there Kate. That was an instance where the more exciting plays were taken away downfield and even looking to the tight end wasn’t going to net them much. Six yds to go here. It’s third down. Now air it out on third. He had it for a moment, but a great defensive play to jar it loose. Incomplete. Looking for Chris Godwin that time. And now a fourth down. Staring right at him. Well, Brock, this substantial deficit sure hasn’t tone the edge that this defense is playing with, huh? If anything, feels like they might be getting more aggressive, looking to make some sort of impact play. And that’s because turnovers are really the name of the game for this defense at this point, Kate. That aggressiveness still super welcome. No question. But they know it’s not just incompletions, it’s taking the ball away. That’s next. The Cardinals in possession of it once again. They passed on the field goal, didn’t get it on fourth down. Interested to see what they do if a similar situation arises on this next possession. Arizona offense looks ready to go. Here’s first and 10. Now it’s Brand setting up the screen and he’ll get it up to the 27. We’ve heard it said and I believe it to my core. Football is the ultimate team sport and a well-run screen like that is the ultimate team play because it takes all 11 doing their job. Ball right up against that marker but not there yet. And it’s second and inches. Operating from the gun, Brissette. It’s McBride downfield and he’s got it. And this great effort winds up getting them well into enemy territory before he’s brought down. They get 37 on the play and it’s good enough for an Arizona first down at the 36 yd line. from the shotgun. Brassette, he finds his running back. Nice work complete. And that tackle stops him after a solid game. Kid, I don’t know why every once in a while I’ll get these little flashbacks, but a little play like that just flashes me back to the preseason, my first preseason, where one of the veteran QBs said, “Hey, Brock, whatever you do, just find completions. You will never go broke taking a profit. Go get a completion. They’re at a premium in this league. To the air yet again, Brousette. And this time they can’t connect. So that’s incomplete. Been favoring their back this drive. Let’s see if it’s going to continue now on third down. Here’s Brassette to throw. Making the call himself. give him eight yardds on the play and it’s going to give the Cardinals a first down. You know, that’s one of those little mental rolodex plays right before the snap. You know, if the read isn’t there, that option isn’t there, you can use your legs to make the adjustment and go get the first down. So, a new set of downs. Here we go. First and 10. Trying to throw this from the gun. Throwing the out route complete and able to get this down to the 15 before going out. Greg George. I know I could sound like a broken record when I talk about timing and getting the ball out on time and on rhythm, but these out cuts, it is so imperative and the best of them make it look oh so easy. Offense is set. This is second and two. Keeping this himself and he’s dropped just short of the marker maybe a yard away. option. It may not show up as much on the old stat sheet, just a short little QB run. But what that does, Kate, is so important. Keeps that defense honest. And in particular, those defensive linemen, those cleats in the ground, they’re not just coming after you in the pocket. Now, they’ve got to think about you as a runner as well. They’ll empty the back field and motion him out. Looking to throw on third and one. It’s caught by Harrison and he is well clear of that marker. That effort is going to set them up with a first and goal. The Cardinals deciding to use the first of their three timeouts and they still have two available for them as we approach the end of this game. First and goal at the sixyd line. This offense in position now. It’s first and goal. throwing now. Brassette. That one’s incomplete in the end zone. Took his shot at six that time. So now it’ll be second and goal. Gosh, I love how the receiver creates space from the defender and even more so the concentration to make the catch. What he didn’t have well was enough real estate to get his feet in and make an exciting completion. Ret looking to throw. Throw is caught and he’ll go down shy the end zone. They mark him at the four. Some certainly do it better than others, Kate. But every running back in the league today has got to do just that. You cannot be a onedimensional back in the league anymore. You can’t. You got to be able to handle your business, both toting the ball as a runner and really importantly as a checkown outlet on short throws. Third and goal for Brassette. Almost had six, but can’t find him in the end zone. Incomplete. Wilson. That throw doesn’t lead to six. So now they’re left with fourth and goal. As I watch practices today, Kate, both college and professionally, one thing is abundantly clear. Teams spend so much more time in the red zone. They know it’s the money zone. And defensively, if you can force incompletions and knock it away and leave teams for field goals, you got a great He will not escape the rush on fourth and goal. That’s a sack. This is going to be a turnover on downs. Hey, I get it. It’s already over. But go down swinging. Unfortunately, that play, like so many of them today, Kate, has been pretty indicative of how this contest has gone. Tampa Bay bringing the offense to the line. It’s first and 10. Carry here for Irvy. Can’t slip that initial tackle. Stops made for no gain on that first down play. Call it no gain on that run and they face second and 10. Brings up second and 10. Sound the cannons, baby. The Buccaneers will win it here in Tampa. They did their part, Brock, defending the home field, using that advantage to secure the victory. We know homefield advantage is a real thing. And the crowd, they did their part, too. Adding to just an awesome atmosphere, helping energize those players at big moments of today’s ball game. Yeah, it is super fun to win on the road. I’m not going to lie, to quiet the crowd. But you know what’s even better? When you get to celebrate with your family, your friends, your hometown people, your community, and you know, more importantly, they played a role as that extra voice in that building. Man, it is a rewarding feeling.

What happened to the quarterback from Arizona yhzt went to OU
That
