New York Jets Have MULTIPLE NFL Draft Options | BEST Draft Options
What is going on Jet fans? Matt Oir back with another video. I wanted to do some draft talk today. Not really a full mock draft, more so just to give you an idea of what the Jets could be looking at right now as the Jets draft stock has plummeted to some. They have the seventh pick in the NFL draft now. Uh and there’s been a lot of talk about to tank or not to tank or to win games. And I made my stance on it pretty clear yesterday in my videos, but I wanted to give an idea of what a Jets first round could look like with where they are picking right now, which is seventh. I think that’s a touch high. I think they will like uh well, they could definitely pick in that range. I was going to say the sixth pick feels like that feels like the range for me. I think the Jets win one maybe two more games this year. Um, and I know that there’s a lot of crappy teams in the NFL right now, but a lot of them play each other, so it’s going to fluctuate. There’s a lot of two- win teams in the NFL. I I think that’s going to change by the time we get to the end of it. But right now, the Jets, as they currently stand, have the number seven and number 23 pick in the NFL draft. And the point of this video is to show like the different routes that they can go and how they could still land good players even if it isn’t a quarterback. It could be, but they might have to get creative. So, uh, the first conversation of this is we don’t know what the quarterback class is going to look like just yet. We know Fernando Mendoza is going to be coming out and he is likely quarterback one. The college football playoff is coming up and that could change some things, but you also don’t know if Dante Moore is coming out or not. And Ty Simpson could theoretically go back to school, too. So, this it could be a one quarterback class, it could be a three quarterback class, and that’s honestly a really big difference. As a Jet fan, you should be rooting for Dante Moore to come out. I I think Ty Simpson is is likely to more is the one that’s kind of been more skewing towards going back to school, but if he plays well over the final month of the college football season and he’s going to be a top five pick, might be worth it for him to come out. Unfortunately, we just saw something similar happen with Drew Allar, uh, where he did not come out of school. He went back to school and then got injured and that’s unfortunately going to plummet his draft stock. So, um, it might make sense for more to come out. And if three quarterbacks do come out, it makes it makes things significantly easier for the Jets, right? They could either move up for one of the quarterbacks or they could kind of just stay put and see who falls to them. And look, the the trade up to number one, I think, would be pretty expensive to go from seven to one. Uh, the Titans are the number one pick. I I would be very surprised if they’re not picking number one overall in the draft. and you have the Giants who are number two that are tradeout candidates. And uh unfortunately for the Jets, the the problem right now is there’s a a handful of teams that are picking in front of them that could be quarterback needy. The Saints at number three is a maybe right now. I don’t you know, if Tyler Shuck plays well down the stretch and they feel good about him going into next year, that could take them off the table and maybe that’s a trade-off candidate for the Jets. Uh the Raiders at four feel like a lock. the Browns is going to depend on how Shidor Sanders plays, but I would also imagine that they’re a quarterback, a team that’s going to be looking for uh a quarterback. And you know, looking at the tradeup, right, not from 7 to1, but the Jets moved up from six to three in the Sam Darnold draft, and they gave up three second round picks. Uh so would you consider a similar package to go from seven to three and give up the three second round picks? It would be both this year and the pick next year, I’d imagine. Now, you still have uh the Colts pick that they could, you know, either trade in the trade up and it won’t cost you probably as many second round picks or uh if you keep that, you can move down and recoup some of the value that you lost in the trade. There’s options. Uh I I just I don’t know how likely it would be for the Jets to trade up from the seven spot. um and really be able to get some bigger packages in comparison to a team like Cleveland who has two first round picks also and is picking higher than the Jets. So they very well could be in a scenario where they are are sticking pick and look if all three of Mendoza Moore and Simpson come out there’s a very very small I’m you know emphasizing it’s a very small chance but theoretically someone could be there at seven but uh in all likelihood all three of those guys go in the top six but what that means is it’s going to push some talented guys who normally would be towards the top of the board further down like the Jets could land a stud wide receiver like there’s a scenario where Jordan Tyson’s available for you at seven if the three quarterbacks go in the top six. I would love to add a Jordan Tyson to this wide receiver room. I know John Mechie’s played well in two of his three games. Ad Mitchell’s coming off really good performance, but the Jets clearly need more uh at the wide receiver room. And if they want to add a stud wide receiver to pair with Garrett Wilson, I think that makes a ton of sense in building out your roster. Or you could go on the defensive side of the ball and a a side of the ball that has a ton of issues, right? like Caleb DS. He’s a safety and I I have some I have some uh PTSD from taking a safety that high up in the draft, but he’s a versatile player, right? He can line up anywhere for you. Uh and if that feels like a fit for Aaron Glenn, that’s certainly a route that you can go. I think, you know, a very talented player, a similar conversation, you know, that I had when um when it was the Kyle Hamilton draft, is while that might not be my most preferred route, they’d be getting an extremely talented player um at a position of need, Arll Reese, another defensive weapon from Ohio State, you line them up at edge, line up at linebacker, can do a whole bunch for you. Or even maybe a Ruben Bane, an edge rusher from Miami. um you know, you have options on, you know, potentially guys who could be there for you at seven. Um with the quarterbacks going in front of the Jets, yes, you lose out on this year’s quarterback class theoretically, but you should be getting a really good player either to pair with Garrett Wilson on the offensive side of the ball or to help revamp this defense. As I mentioned, for right now, the second first round pick is sitting at pick number 23. Now, when the Jets first made the trade, the Colts had the best record in the NFL, so that was sitting at 32. Um, Sauce is going to miss the next couple weeks due to a calf injury. Daniel Jones has been banged up and honestly not playing his best football over the last four games. They’re one and three, the Colts are in their last four games. Barely squeaked by the Atlanta Falcons also. He has six passing touchdowns in those four games, but four interceptions. He’s fumbled seven times. Like the turnovers are starting to come back in. Uh, he’s playing hurt right now. And the Colts have a tough schedule to close the year. So, while right now it’s pick 23, there’s a chance that that could end up higher. Here’s how their schedule closes at Jacksonville this week at Seattle, at home versus San Francisco, at home versus Jacksonville, and then on the road against Houston, who they just lost to, you know, what what can that record look like over their final, you know, handful of games here, over their final five games. Uh, like I said, that it’s right now it’s 23. It could move up higher. Uh Jacksonville is at the top of the division right now. If Jacksonville gets hot uh and they end up winning the division, the Colts could either be a wild card team and get bounced out early in the playoffs and that pick could be higher than 20 or I mean it’s not super likely, but there’s also a world where the the Colts miss the playoffs and that pick could be like 16 and then you’re looking at the Jets having picks seven and 16 in this draft which would be pretty exciting. But anyway, guys you could be looking at with the Colts pick, depending on what you do with the first one. If you go defense early on, then you could be looking at guys like wide receiver Denzel Boston from Washington or or Chris Bell from Louisville. Those are two bigger outside receivers. Uh I think that would make a lot of sense for the Jets to pair uh a big ex receiver with Garrett Wilson and John Mechy and AD Mitchell. Um, you know, there’s other names obviously that you could be uh looking at. Uh, whether it’s um, you know, you have Jordan Tyson up there, uh, in the at the top and Mai Lemon and, uh, you know, Caleb, not Caleb DS, excuse me, Carell Tate. Um, just too many Ohio State guys. They’re all getting stuck in my head. But it depends on what you do. If you don’t go wide receiver first, you could go wide receiver with the second of the two first round picks and those two guys guys make sense. Or if you go wide receiver first, then maybe you’re looking at, you know, um interior defensive line Caleb Banks from Miami or Kane McDonald, another Ohio State guy, or Sunny Styles, a linebacker from Ohio State, or you know, just a completely different direction that we’re not considering right now. Uh but the the point that I wanted to make here is like that there’s that there’s options for you. So, yeah, you might not get the quarterback this year, which would be a little frustrating, right? You might have to find a stop gap, but you could set yourself up for 2027 or or just build out the rest of your your roster, right? Like if you land Reese and Denzel Boston, that’d be pretty exciting. Or Jordan Tyson and a defensive player with the second first round pick, that could also be very exciting for you. So, um, while I get it, there’s going to be people up upset about the the wins and not having the highest pick in the draft. And, you know, like I said, they’re seven right now. That number could go up. I mean, they could lose out. I don’t think it’s likely. I think they win another game or two. But, if you’re picking in that five to eight range, it’s not the worst thing in the world to happen. There’s still going to be talented players there. The sky isn’t falling. they’re just going to have to make some sort of adjustment to their draft strategy, right? And you know, we’ll see what happens with the Indianapolis Colts pick. And like I laid out, they they could end up even trading up for for a quarterback. And I know it makes it a little bit harder, right? And there’s teams in front of the Jets who could be looking to trade up as well for a quarterback, but I’m not ready to hit the panic button yet. Let’s see how this plays out. And like I said, I just kind of wanted to not doing a full mockdraft. We’re not going mockdraft Mondays just yet, but I kind of wanted to give you an idea of what we could be looking at for the New York Jets in the NFL draft. So, that’ll do it for me in this one, guys. Thanks for hanging out. I’m Matt Ori. I’ll catch you next time.

I'm definitely in the minority here. Yes, I want Mendoza/Simpson drafted as our next QB. This team is so close to being complete with young talent. This draft should be about solidifying the team. Plug in the few spots on the O-Line and offense, as well as our defense so when the 2027 draft comes our rookie QB has a solid team to support him. Ideally, our new QB should sit one season with a start or two at the end of the season and he should be prepared to come ready to dominate in 2028.
The problem is by not drafting a QB is losing Garrett Wilson he’s getting frustrated and will request a trade soon …I see it coming
Hey Matt what’s are your thoughts on Nyck harbor? From South Carolina. Maybe not first round but second round third 🤷♂️
We control our destiny with these 8 premium picks. However the board falls we just need to take the best football players available. We can't reach or overthink it.
When the draft comes they may be picking close to ten. If the Colts sink their 23rd pick may be higher. Jets should build the roster. They need players at all positions. Jets could always get a QB on day three. Tom Brady was a day three pick. Brock Purdy was a day three pick too. Some QBs don't make it until they have been with several teams. It's a crapshoot.
Matt, what would you think of taking a flyer on Drew Allar on day two? Round one could land two very crucial new pieces, especially with the volatility at the qb position in this draft.
Jets have multiple needs. Stick and Pick.
Huh?!🤔 Trade Up get Fernando Mendoza and get going. Without a QB it’s rinse & repeat next year. Let Mougey be the GM he can be and draft / sign to fill out the roster in 2026 and 2027 with 5-Round 1 picks and 3-2nd Round picks + lots of CAP space. Other than the Bum Owner Woody meddling there is a lot of positive energy about the future.
We need to trade pass pick 3-4 to grab a QB.
Do Not Trade Away Any Of Our 4 Picks during the first 2 rounds. We Need to Infuse Talent into the Ranks and We're Not Just a QB Away.
We Will Get Our QB Of The Future In The 2027 Draft Where The QB's Are Much Better and We Have Three 1st Rounders. 💯
We need a QB. We can't just wait around and keep losing. Why would any of the young players on the team want to stay if we give them another 2 losing seasons?
I’m going with Tyrod and two rookie QB’s next year mid to late rounders have Beck Nussmeier etc. have them fight it up for 2 and 3rd string.
Matt belated congratulations on your wedding, regarding the draft I'd rather keep our picks. We have numerous needs on both sides of the ball, our defensive line in particularly has looked suspect. I know quarterback is the number one priority, but we gave up a lot for these picks, please Jets don't waste them.
Tank get your qb and use draft capital and money to fill the team with good players
The oregon qb is nice , dante or Maldonado are the only options if available and in position
Jest do not need a QB…that is craziness
Perfectly fine with WRs Tyson, Tate, Lemon their all going 1st round, Arvel Reese on defense is the main guy I want, or Bain, Downs, tyson is a top 10 pick, tate is top 20, and lemon is top 25 their not going to last in the first round for very long could see them all going top 20, denzel an bell are most likely in that late first range, possibly early 2nd
Just take whichever QB falls to them. Don’t trade up. No one knows which QB will be good anyway.
I like McDonald DT from Ohio ST also love Caleb Downs.
Didn't Moore's OC leave for a head coaching job? Could that play into his decision?
Diego Pavia is better than Drew Allar.
Drew Allar is sucks. Mattier isnt good. Lamar Sellers isnt convincing either. Keep our picks and build our roster. 2 mamy holes. WR2 and LB's with first 3 picks. Pavia in 3rd or 4th round if available
Use these 4 picks on OSU talent.
No trading picks, let’s build our team up
Wouldn't mind taking a chance on Allar in day 2. Much depends on how he looks at the combines.
If the jets draft a QB in the first round of 26 then they're total idiots. Draft a QB in the third round if you want and get the QB in the first round in 27.
Here’s your problem- if you trade 1-2 extra 1s just to move up to grab Mendoza- and he is a major bust. Your screwed. Play the board and see if someone tumbles.
What if Tyrod looks good the rest of they do we mortgage draft capitol for a quarterback
What if we can get Reese and Downs how will the defense look
This has been what I have been saying Dontae Moore is the pick! We need to try to get him I know everybody wants Arch Manning or Julian Sayin but I really like Donate Moore the best a lot of people don't see it, but it he just gives me Patrick Mahomes vibes with his off platform passing and pen point accuracy in big moments.
Definitely not a fan of trading up for anyone. We cannot be losing picks on a swing and miss, stay put or trade back and acquire more assets.
Each win brings us closer to not going Qb with our first pick. Build the team. Fine with late 1r or 2r Qb. Not giving up 3 first rounders to move up for a prospect, Which all QBs are. The prospect doesn’t work out & we lose draft capital we’ll be the old Jets forever.
Stick n pick.not trade n bust.
I think I would rather bridge with a guy like Mariota (or any other qb that can average more air yards than fields did) than trade up, I don't know if any of these QBs would be worth trading up for in any other year. I don't think we expect to contend next year anyways, so lets draft the supporting cast and then snag our QB next year. Honestly though, anything but trading for Kyler is a path that could work.
