But….is this partly due to the fact that Hurts doesn’t thrive in these scenarios? It is not uncommon that he leaves meat on the bone and doesn’t hit his receivers on time across the middle. This isn’t just a Patullo bad thing, a lot of this is designed FOR Hurts to succeed. He is having a down year and who’s to say if it’s the chicken or the egg.
Just wait til we get to the 3 and out and 3rd down stats
The more I reflect on the Eagles offensive issues, the more I realize this really isn’t Kevin Patullo’s fault. This is the Sirianni offense – Patullo is just the consigliere.
This kind of simple offensive scheme has been a recurring issue since Sirianni arrived here. Would the offense look better with a better OC? Probably, but I’m willing to wager that the improvement would be marginal.
We’re paying Ferrari prices for Fiat performance, and that ultimately falls on Sirianni to fix.
Yeah they’re not running this bc Jalen needs a simple offense…Jalen ran Kellen’s late-season offense perfectly (hence, SB ring + SB MVP)…this is coaching malpractice
It’s a shame what’s being done with this elite offense, on a year we thought the defense would be the issue. Have a top 15 offense even and we coast to the 1 seed, it’s unbelievable.
The biggest thing that I keep noticing is that we get virtually no YAC. The last game or two it’s been a bit different (only slightly) but it feels like the way our offense is designed is just so easily read that even when our skill positions are running the right routes, the plays go nowhere because defenses know exactly what is happening before it happens.
This is also because we do very few screens and don’t rely much on the middle of the field in the passing game but that only covers so many bases. Our skill position players are being left out to dry.
Head coaches shouldn’t be hiring guys in their wedding party, it’s unprofessional and we can see why with what’s happening this year. Fire them both.
They are waiting for the playoffs to open up the playbook /s
This is Jalen’s fault tho.

I think a big factor in the offensive woes this year is the O line. They’ve been banged up since before the season started, and it shows. Saquon isn’t getting nearly as much room to run as he was last year, and he doesn’t seem to be finding gaps quite as well.
Now I know a big part of the struggle is that the formations they use are predictable as fuck. But I don’t think that explains everything. The line is just not as dominant as it was last year.
The passing scheme would probably be working fine if opposing defenses needed to stay honest and watch for Jalen/Saquon. But they don’t.
Not giving the coaching staff a pass, because at some point you have to realize this and make adjustments. And they haven’t done that so they’ll just keep running Saquon into piles of bodies and Jalen will keep having to throw 50/50 balls to get any yardage through the air.
It’s actually a lot worse than this. It’s not like oh they could run fewer hitches or more play action.
It’s being unprepared for your opponent like not practicing against 5 man fronts against Dallas or doing anything differently against the press man coverage of Detroit.
It’s Calcaterra being an awful blocker, but using him almost exclusively as a run blocker, but then running away from him because he’s so bad. And it’s so obvious that opposing lines stunt away from him.
They never do anything with motion to the point where the defense could practically not have to cover the guy in motion.
The baffling thing is that they do often script up great plays which is why they can score early but then in the game they can’t adjust and just keep doing the same predictable things.
They’ll have success doing something and then either never do it again or do the exact same play a drive later and it’ll get stuffed. Remember that under center play action against the Vikings? They ran 2 plays under center against the Bears, both during the scripted portion.
Anyone who thinks that oh it’s the line is injured, or Jalen Hurts sucks, or Barkley has regressed is really not appreciating how terrible this coaching is.
I can’t believe this is the same unit that put up 55 and 40 points in championship games, that’s 1 point more than our last 6 games combined
I’m convinced this all Sirianni. It’s always been and always will be this if he has a majority say in the offense, and we’ll blame the coordinator when it really rests on him. Dude is constantly shielding himself from blame, be it his kids on the podium, him corny ass shirts to be viewed as an every-man, or his OC.
I don’t discount the shared blame on everyone involved, but at the end of the day, you have to make the adjustments to put people in position to succeed, and that’s solely on him. Dude is arrogant and stubborn.
Nick is too afraid to fire his friend.
I don’t know what to make of the AJ stat. I’m sure there’s some WRs that never line up in the slot. Does it mean less than any other WR1?
Fie everyone. Bring in someone who’s willing to run a real nfl system. If hurts cant handle it, thats their own damn fault for not developing him.
If this season collapses does Nick survive? His only job is managing the locker room and the eagles have the most disastrous locker room in the league. The vibes from last season to this one are night and day.
I’m sure the problem will be fixed for the next game…..
The lesson we learned from 2023 was we need more pre-snap motion. Patullo is the dumbest OC ever.
Don’t worry, the coach just said the OC is not the problem
The lack of crossing and in breaking routes are infuriating me. Also if teams are keyed on on stopping the run/saquon I don’t understand why we don’t do more PA passes.
Where’s the dude who thinks the offense is still cooking because of the record and in his words, “scoreboard.”
I would love to see this compared Kellen Moore offense last year. If it’s in the ballpark, that makes you wonder if the offense is designed by Sirianni to cater to Hurts?
The passing game is as bad as last year. Two different OC’s.
A year ago his week AJ was asked what was wrong with the offense – his response “the passing game”
Excuses below.
He didn’t even talk about run designs either. A gap dive…. B Gap dive
Horrendous December, early January and 1st round exit incoming. At least we get an insiders look to the collapse with hard knocks this season.
Are these stats almost identical to when Brian Johnson was OC 2 years ago? If they are then this is a big time Sirianni issue.
“Execute simple things well and don’t turn the ball over” must be something Sirianni’s coach cold him in Division 3, and now he’s clinging to it autistically
All the bad game planning is a major psyop for the Raiders game. Here me out, in 1980 the Raiders beat the Eagles in the Super Bowl. The Raiders matchup will avenge that super bowl loss, so we are letting the Raiders think we have a bad offense but then when we play later this year it will be dagger after dagger to Devonta!
Now do last year.
I hope this is the most elaborate fake-out in the history of the league… stumble into the playoffs and give entirely new looks and schemes, stuff teams have zero tape on. 3D chess.
BRB just dropped my copium pipe…
I feel like the NFL more than any sport is the one where apportioning blame is the hardest
I don’t understand the last point. AJ is an X and Smitty is a demon in the slot why would we put AJ in the slot?
Nick: a wise man avoids all extremes. Also Nick: ^
It’s copium, but a part of me wants to believe the eagles were playing the most basic offense on purpose until they make the playoffs and then pull out all the stops
Can anyone provide a rational explanation for these mystifying stats? If any jabroni who has watched an NFL game or played Madden can reasonably point out these “predictable” trends – why would professional coaches with plenty of experience and at least a modicum of intelligence refuse to incorporate motion/playaction/other routes/YAC opportunities? It’s hard to just accept “Patullo/Sirianni is an idiot.” What reason would they give under truth serum? My top theories are 1) Hurts is actually quite limited and now refuses to run in addition to not throwing over the middle/being streaky on a lot of basic throws 2) Sirianni prefers an offense that would bludgeon opposing teams with predictable plays that are nonetheless effective because of how strong and manly our players > yours (a la the Bills running the same play over and over vs. Steelers)
The willingness to continue to be stubborn and arrogant really baffles me.
AJ not being in the slot never makes any sense. The hitch routes are ANNOYING and so obvious. 50/50 post routes are not sustainable.
I wish folks would realize that pre-snap motion isn’t a be all spend all. If it were so damn bad or limiting, why did Peyton Manning do the same? Okay, all you Monday morning quarterbacks, have at it.
