Dylan Cease career highlights (Signed w/reigning AL Pennant-winning Toronto Blue Jays!)
That’s a great trip to the mound that he just took. And you’re right, it didn’t take all that long to get here. And for him, as soon as the Socks got him in their organization, it didn’t take him all that long to get here either. So, he’s not exactly a prodigy. We’re not talking about an 18, 19 year old, but he was signed out of high school. He is 23 years old. He’s got a 448 in AAA, but it’s a lively ball era in the International League, eighth best in the league. CE fires his first major league pitch and this one’s hit high in the air short center field. Jime Mennez leaves it for Cordell and we are underway in the CE era on the south side of Chicago. As you see, he’s dialed back a little bit the fast ball miles an hour. He’s 95 96 here in the second inning. It’s probably a combination of Don Cooper and James McCann telling him you don’t need max effort on every pitch. Two- two in his first strike out. Dylan Case punches out Jacobe Jones. The first of many quickly now one and two. Breaking ball throws him. Stewart handcuffed by Cease. The first one happened and another one right behind it. So Ricky Renteria wants him to go five. I mean, there’s no doubt that that’s what he wants. However, he also knows that Nico Good much better from the left side than he is from the right. He struck him out with a change up. Five innings in his debut. He walks off in the fifth with a lead. One ball, two strikes. Dylan CE has been a sorcerer tonight. Breaking ball. Got him. Strike three. First shut out of Dylan CE’s career was artistry at 11 nothing. 17 in a row to close. Just an amazing performance. He had everything going for him. It shows you just how good this stuff can be. Nine strikeouts, no walks, only three hits and no hit past the second inning. Just a performance for the ages for him. One that he’ll look back on and realize how good he can be. And yes, he’s going to be a mainstay in that rotation. Zentenna had a big hit last night. A base hit scored a run in the sixth. Strike three. Slider gets rid of KK Hernandez. That was quick. Three pitches, one out. Can’t do much better than that. And we’ll watch it again. Couple of fast balls and then one of these on the outside corner. It was up, but it wasn’t a hanger because of the late break. And it completely fooled Hernandez. O2. He struck him out. Slider fast ball slider. And see you. This is the difference when you get ahead of a hitter and you get behind. This is a wipeout slider. Now, if he’s behind Devers, he doesn’t swing at that. But being ahead a couple of strikes, Devers trying to protect and no chance on that biting slider. Here we go. Three and two. Two on, two out, first inning. It’s a fast ball. 200 strikeouts for Dylan Sees. Three of them this inning. How about a little power for you? He just went back and used the fast ball and threw it by him. He’s one out away and to get there has to retire the man leading the American League in batting. Listen to the cease chance to right center field and Arise ends ceases chance at history. Arise the American League leader in batting average. A two out single to right center. And CE now looking for the complete game shut out. Strike three swinging. A complete game. One hit shut out for Dylan Cease. And the White Socks here in September are peing at the right time. Two balls and two strikes. Dylan CE. And now the two- two pitch on the way and Pache swings and misses on a breaking ball away. And it is Dylan CE’s 200th strikeout of this season. Slider down over the middle of the plate. Pashe can’t get it. Here’s the 3-2. There it is. A strike out at the bottom of the zone with a fast ball and Dylan CE has his 200th of the season. now just the third pitcher in White Socks history to get 203 consecutive seasons. Back-to-back outstanding efforts for CE overall his 22nd start. Swinging a foul tip into the catcher mid for strike three. CE strikes out Abrams to start the bottom of the first inning. Did he go this time? Yes, he did. Goes around and strikes out on the ground left side from third. Solano throws on the run and in time. Winker hits a fly ball to left field over his profar towards the line and he’ll make the catch for out number two on the ground left side. Solano on the run and in time to end the inning. Dylan Cease has not given up a hit through the first seven in Washington today. Three nothing Padres swinging a miss and he struck him out. One down in the eighth inning. Nine strikeouts for Dylan Cease. Ground ball right side. Ranging is Bogard. It’s a bobble to throw to first. is going to get there in time. Sanders stayed with it, didn’t give up, and gets his man. Two down. You have to admire the second effort. You have to admire what’s on the line. Grounded to short and Cam behind the bag at second. Throws him out. Dylan CE is not allowed to hit through the first eight innings in Washington today. On the ground slowly hit towards Bogards. He’ll flip to first for out number one of the ninth inning. On the ground to shortstop, Kim’s got it. Fires to first. Two down in the ninth inning. Abrams to right field. Johnson coming in. He makes the catch. No hits for the Nets. Dylan CE throws a no hitter. The second no hitter in Padres’s history. There’ll be a sea of San Dieans celebrating back home today. Dylan CE says no hit. The Washington Nationals on a rainy Thursday in DC. The Padres’s will celebrate. Dylan CE on the mound for the Padres’s. For Dylan, it’s simple. Pound the zone, avoid long at bats, and see how deep he can get into this ball game. And he goes after it. Struck him out on the sweeper. First strike down of the night for CE. When you’re sending down your top guy to figure something out, no injury, just lost. Swinging a miss. And Tovar strikes out. Second K for Dylan CE. High fuzz above the zone. Tovar obliges. He goes down for out number one. It’ll take some pitches. It’s just going to take some pitches to do it. And that strike three gets him looking. Third K for CE. [Applause] And that strike three gets him looking. Goodman knew it. Takes with him the fourth strike out for Dylan CE. Two down. Ends up right down the middle. They want it in. Goodman not looking for it either way. He goes down looking. elevates and he strikes shot tobar. That is the 200th strikeout of the season for Dylan Cease. Fifth consecutive 200k season for Cease and he joins this great group of starting pitchers. Max Scherzer, Justin Verlander, Chris Sale, Clayton Kershaw drops in there for strike three. The curve ball. Another one, two, three inning. 10th pitch coming up and a liner caught by Croorth to shortstop to end the inning. Dylan Cease through six. Yeah, Dylan C finished fourth in the Sai Young voting last year. Not been quite that kind of year for him this year. And half swings and misses here. CE gets him again. Make it 1 for 22. Suzuki strikes out on a devilish slider. The second strike out for Dylan CE strikes out swinging again. Swords up for CE. You get a 3-2 break involved. Another strike out. That’s four for Cease. Back to the heater. 100 from Dylan CE for another punch out. Mike Schill is pushing some buttons early in this game. He’ll go to the bullpen after 11 outs and no runs against Case.
