The Grizzlies Are Up To Something HUGE… | Daily Grizzlies News & Rumors

Welcome back to this edition of Grizz Daily. I your host Malik and we just gonna get straight into this because we gota get into the last topic of all this y’all’s thoughts on everything that was discussed in last episode because y’all showed a lot of love to the last episode. So, it’s only right that we dedicate a whole portion of the show to that. But first, let’s get into some things I want to talk about real quick ahead of tonight’s game against San Antonio Spurs in San Antonio. Let’s talk about it. Let’s get straight into it. So, real quick before we even get into all that, um, one thing that I’ve learned in this entire little win streak that the Grizzlies are going on as they actually are progressing to above 500, um, health will determine the outcome of this year. We obviously talk about a lot of things when it comes to uh, let’s see, you know, the, you know, shooting, defense, rebounding, all these things. The only problem with the Grizzlies that really just strikes out to me, it’s not even defense anymore. I feel like defensively they’re a pretty good team. The only thing with the Grizzlies is really just turnovers. Turnovers and that occasional and well, really turnovers in rotations. That’s really the only issue that I see with the Grizzlies so far. Other than that, it’s the health. Obviously, you don’t have a healthy point guard. You’re sufficing with Vince Williams Jr., which is actually working out pretty well for you. You’re getting good minutes from Ken Spencer. Uh Jaylen Wells is finding his stride. Zack Edy’s looking really good. Jiren’s looking good. So, it’s it’s, you know, it really boils you down to the fact that the Grizzlies just have to stay healthy. Now, this doesn’t mean by all means I’m saying, “Oh, the Grizzlies are going to win the championship.” But it lets me know that, hey, the Grizzlies can be dangerous come playoff time. If they stay healthy, that’s all that matters. So, really think that comes down to it. And I think as long as you know they stay healthy, everything’s good. Uh speaking of health, I believe today we either today or tomorrow we should get an update on uh John status when it comes to their calf strain. I believe it’s been two weeks because both him and Wimby have the same injuries, I think. So we should get an update on both of those. But I believe both of them are out for this game. So hopefully we get an update regarding them. Uh but real quick, swirl circling back, Zack Edy, the brothers looking good. He’s looking great. Uh he’s making a lot of people who thought the Grizzlies reached on the pick look stupid. And I gotta be honest, I’m not gonna say I was one of those people, but I definitely was someone that was skeptical of the pick because I’m I will be the I’ll be one to admit I did want Donovan Clinkan out of that draft. So when he got drafted above him, like, all right, fine. Edy worse. I would have never thought Edy got to this point. If I’m being honest, I think he turned out very, very, very good. Um yeah, I I have no complaints when it comes to Edy. He’s doing his role and we saw that he actually has the ability to do a lot more when it comes to his um his energy on the floor. Honestly, I think when it comes down to it, my biggest thing with Edy that has impressed me the most is there hasn’t been a moment where I can look at Edy and be like, he shouldn’t be on the floor right now. Last year, there were plenty of moments where I’m like, Edy just doesn’t fit on the court. He just doesn’t. He’s too slow. All this and that. But it seems like they have truly figured out something to where Edy can stay on the floor and truly make an impact on this game on the game. Truly, I mean, looking at it, looking at his last five games, I’m just going to tell you the plus minus that he’s had. Against the Kings, plus minus a 25. Against the Clippers, negative -2, nothing crazy. The Pelicans plus minus a plus 39. Denver, he has zero obviously because he got hurt in that game. And then Dallas plus minus a plus 13. Zack Edy is impactful to this team. He’s impactful and he is proving that he is a franchise cornerstone. He is the franchise center for this team. And like I said, when it comes down to it, health matters. Health matters at all of this. So, as long as Zach Edie and others can stay healthy, I Oh god, what just happened to my camera? I didn’t realize it was frozen that whole time. Um, but yeah, like I was saying, Edy, Ed’s impact matters. It truly does, and I think it goes a long way into the future success of the Grizzlies, whether what they do. So, him his health and his impact proves to be great strides. Now, let’s talk about tonight’s game. Obviously, um, injury report right here. Same few people are out, you know, same five people including J. Uh Jacqu Landale is questionable. I think he has like an ankle injury. Uh so I think he probably will play. It just depends. Um yeah, I really don’t have much when it comes to this game because I’m looking at um San Antonio’s report. Stefon Castle is still out, Victor still out. So when it comes down to it, you know, I think you just you just need to do essentially what happened the last game but better. That’s that’s the last time we played the Spurs. It was competitive. Obviously, I think there needs to be multiple people. I Well, let me not say multiple people. I think there needs to be a conclusion on who needs to guard De’Arren Fox because his takeover in the third quarter and then the whole thing with Harrison Barnes, those last three minutes, you cannot have that happen again. You cannot have that happen again. So, I think when it comes down to it, you need to stop Dear Fox, stop the others from getting hot. you know, protect the three because San Antonio is starting to lean more to shooting the three, especially against the Grizzlies. So, I think if they as long as they do that, you stop the Fox, you prevent anybody else from taking over the game and you just keep playing the players that are playing good for you because one thing about it, Elo needs to realize if that second unit is not working, keep put the starters in. Put the starters in. Do it before it gets out of hand kind of thing. I think it rotations really matter when it comes to a team against San Antonio. So, I think as long as they do that, everything is fine. Those are my keys to it. Not really much to it. Now, let’s talk about the last video. Um, I have y’all’s comments pulled up right here. So, let’s talk about I’m going do I’m going to do the uh newest to oldest. So, let’s get straight into it. So, we’re going to start with the first comment. Um, it was basically uh Grizz that is agreeing with me. Uh, second comment says, “You’re right. I like Jiren, but we are not getting our money’s worth for the price he’s getting paid. mainly he has to improve his defense and stay on the floor instead of making dumb fouls. Wells offense is looking better but still can’t stay in front of the offense. Wait, still stay in front on defense, but I think his injury from last year has something to do with that. I love Spencer. He does everything well, but his only issue is he’s too slow and can’t blow by anybody when he dribbles. Uh yeah, I agree with the Jiren part. I kind of agree with the Jaylen Wells part. I think he I don’t think the injury necessarily has something to do with that. Um mostly because it was a facial it was more pause. It was more of a face injury and uh it was like a broken wrist. I don’t think necessarily has anything to do with it. I think that’s just maybe something different he’s trying. I don’t I don’t know. Uh when it comes to Ken Spencer, yeah, I do agree with that, but I don’t think you would expect that out of Ken Spencer. You expect him to just be a shooter. So, I don’t really have any real complaints when it comes to that. Uh next comment. I totally agree with what we paid. I totally agree what we paid Jiren for what we uh for we what we are getting out of Zack Edy. Does not matter the position. Each position of every team has a different player scoring 25 plus a night. The thing is we need to take the loss from Jiren and pick up someone like Evan Moley or Jaylen Dur with some picks now. Oh, okay. The only thing about that I agree with the part it does not matter the position because yes, Jiren has to step up. Uh you will not I I don’t see a world where you get Evan Moley or Jaylen Duran for Jiren Jackson Jr. mostly because one, is Jaylen Duran going to start even if you pick him up? That’s just my thing right there because now you got two people who play the paint kind of hard to space the floor out with that. Uh Evan Mobley, I just don’t see the Cavaliers giving up on him. He’s a corn he’s a, you know, cornerstone to their franchise and he’s going to be with them involved in the playoff push. I don’t see them moving on from him. Uh next comment, yes, it’s time to move on from Jiren. He’s got game and has a lot of potential, but what is it like year eight? Still getting in foul trouble, still up and down with his scoring and refuses to shoot in the paint. Other teams definitely know all they have to do is apply a little pressure and he’ll shoot jumpers. Some nights you get 15, some some you get 30. I was expecting Jiren to play how he did started last season. And that’s it right there. That’s it. We just need Jiren to play how he did last year. And I think you have he has the ability to do that. He has it within himself. He just needs to do it. This is I mean y’all understand I’m not saying Jiren’s bad by any means. He’s an allNBA cal caliber player. He had the very opportunity to get make AllNBA last year was 10 votes off. So I think Jiren has the ability. He just doesn’t want to do it. I don’t know why. He just doesn’t. So that’s it right there. Uh next comment says, “Bro, Jiren is not a center. He’s a forward. I don’t understand why people won’t comprehend this fact.” All right, let’s pull up a stat, y’all. Let’s pull up a stat. Let’s pull up NBA power forwards and let’s pull up their stats right now. So, um, we can really, you know, re really evaluate this as best as we can because um I don’t think I don’t think the point is getting across of what I was saying right there. So, we look at Giannis. I don’t even need to go to him. You know, Giannis is going to put up his stats. Let’s look at Lowry Marketing. 28 28 points a game. six rebounds, two assists, and barely barely not really getting into foul trouble. Denny Adia, 25 a game, seven rebounds, six assists. Kevin Durant, 25, five, and three. Michael Porter Jr. 24 and seven rebounds and three assists. Pascal Seakum 24, seven rebounds, 4.3 assists. Jaylen Johnson 23, 10 and seven. So, it does not matter about You know what? I’ll even do you one better. I don’t even I don’t Y’all know how I feel about Dylan. Dylan Brooks 22 points a game, three rebounds, 1.8. Hey, I just threw Dylan in just to prove I just throw Dylan in because y’all know how y’all feel about Dylan. But my point goes, it does not matter about position. Everybody has their role. Jiren is just not playing his. When you look at it right here, I’m looking at the power four list right now. Santi is above and I sorted by rebounds. Santi is above Jiren. So if you do the math, one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, 10, 11, 12th. Among power forwards, Santi Alama ranks 12th in rebounds. And then you go down, try to find Jiren Jackson Jr. Oh, look, another Grizzlies player right here at 23. Take a while. Guess who it is? Cedric Coward. You keep scrolling down. You keep scrolling down. 24 25 26 27 28 29 30 31 32 33 34 35 36 37 38 39th. Jiren is 39th among power fors in rebounds and he is getting paid $240 million. So it is not the position, it’s just his work ethic. He does not want to grab rebounds. So position does not matter. It does not matter that he’s a Ford because other fours are doing it and some of those fours play on the same team as him and some of them fors are still on rookie contracts. All right, next comment. I’m not quote I’m not impressed by winning five of six with all the point guards out. Okay, this is in response to my part where I said I’m not impressed by the Grizzlies little winning streak. I’m not. I’m not. Mostly because these are games the Grizzlies should have won. I mean, yes, you don’t have a point guard, but let’s be honest. The Grizzlies are still expected to win these games. They were the bottom four teams in the Western Conference, but when they play a team against 500, they don’t do the same thing. Granted, part of it isn’t their fault. It was Easo’s fault. But at the end of the day, why would I be impressed when they’re doing what they did last year, beat teams below 500, and when it came to the playoffs, couldn’t do anything. That’s just how it is. Uh, next comment. Grizz fans are never happy with anything. probably to play on with the last comment. Look, at the end of the day, I just I just explained it right there. Next comment. When Jaw comes back, we will look great. I can’t agree more. Uh, next comment. I know J is better than Vince, but I can’t take away Vince’s connection with Zack. Hopefully, J will have a better outlook and be what he always been. It’s true. We have been beating bad teams, but we also meet some key players, so it seems like an allset. Very true. Very true. Um, I still look at this Grizz team as a pretty good team. So that’s my thoughts on that. Um, so yeah, I I agree with that. I think Jaw with this injury, I think he just needs to realize that he doesn’t have to always shoot the ball because there are others on the court. I really feel like that’s what is taking J away from his game. Obviously, you look at the by score, you see J’s only 10 to 10 shots. Oh, J’s not really playing his game like that. No, if you watch the game, he’s just trying to get others involved. Now, what we’ve been seeing lately out of Gi is he’s kind of been shooting the Grizzlies out of games. That’s my big issue with him. Um, looking for some more comments before we wrap this up. Um, we’ll look at this comment. Uh, as far as Jiren goes, I mean, he’s not doing bad, but obviously we are paying him way too much. I just don’t know who we put in his place and have them do better. So, my question is, who do you trade Jiren for? Honestly, for being real, that’s the hard thing when it comes to Jiren. Who can you trade him for? I look, you could throw any prospect out of there, anybody better, but pro the one reality is who is going to trade for that contract. That’s the reality. Who is going to trade for Jiren Jess Jr’s contract? And it’s not many teams that will. That’s just the end of that’s just how it is at the end of the day. And last comment right here. Uh I feel like it’s safe to be cautiously optimistic. the the addition of Zakquil Odinhill has really has literally made it this a different team. It seems as if it has taken so much pressure off everybody. Yeah. And and and that’s not much that’s not much to say about that because that’s the truth of reality. I mean we said the same thing last year when the Grizzlies didn’t really have a small forward to play around. So yeah, positions matter and Ed’s position matters the most because when you have a f when you have a forward that doesn’t do one of the things a big man should do, it really makes a difference and it shows. Now that you have that back, it’s going to show in a better light. I don’t think there’s that much more need to be said right there. So that’s going to wrap up this edition of Grizz Daily.   1. Tonight’s game is a big test for the Grizzlies. They have a chance to win a game against a team that is over 500. The Suns are their only win this year. To maintain upward mobility they will have to win. They are capable and will just have to go out and do it.

  2. 13:02 anytime Iisalo talks about how complementary Vince and Edey are, it sounds to me that he's hinting at Ja and how well he can fit in with Edey. I'd like to think that Ja also gets this.

  3. Not only is tonight a massive test for the grizzlies.

    We win this we have an easy 3-4 games outside of the blazers until we play the timberwolves in Minnesota.

    I would say Edey destroys Luke Kornet and they don’t get a lot of points in the paint.

    If we can hold them to mainly threes and rebound extremely well defensively we win this game.

  4. It really doesn't matter if we can't keep players healthy. That should bt eh number priority of the Grizz right now then if Ja and the coach don't get along after that then get rid of the coach because he hasn't beaten a winning team. The same thing that fired Taylor Jenkins for.

  5. My bad, I didn't forgot Wells injury wasn't a leg injury.
    I'm also one that's frustrated with JJJs play at times, but I'm not ready to give up on him like other comments. His one on one offense is unstoppable it's just his defense and sometimes trying to dribble between 2 or three defenders that frustrates me. Hoping he fixes those issues 🙏

  6. Dude just name like 5 people who don’t even play defense. People quick to point out Jaren flaws but not Ja. It’s year 7 and he still can’t shot. He’s injury prone and turns the ball over. How Jaren gone play like last year if the offense is different that don’t even make sense. Ja can’t even stay healthy and on the floor but homey let’s trade Jaren. Ja is the reason why they switch the offense late in the season and we went on to have a terrible end. And let’s not forgot Jaren was injured whole offseason and just got injured while playing in a new offense let’s be for real now

  7. If you didn’t know Ja is average 18points on 36/17/94 shooting.he also averaging almost 4 turnovers a game. And he’s making $200 million. And unlike Jaren was not injured the whole offseason. So if Jaren ain’t doing what he getting paid for what the hell is Morant doing. Because if we gone start with a trade I t should be the guy who’s underperforming. Jaren numbers are decent for a guy who’s coming off a ankle and toe injury
