I’ve written numerous times that the Reds have long odds to land Kyle Schwarber. But according to sources, Cincinnati still has a chance to sign the lefty slugger from Middletown, Ohio. https://www.mlb.com/reds/news/reds-free-agent-kyle-schwarber-rumors

  1. Every single source is outside Cincinnati. No one that talks with the team and FO says this is a thing. This is setting up for a big disappointment

  2. the reds will never spend more than $20 million a year on a player. And even then it wont be more than 2-3 years.

  3. Theres a lot about this Schwarber blitz the last few days that makes it feel like its driven by his agency at the Phillies.

Starts with stories about how far they are apart.  Check.  Brings in other suitors, including some new darkhorses (Giants and Orioles).  Check.  Timed right before the winter meetings.  Of course.  Every major writing seeming to get their own little pieces of the puzzle.  Definitely.

Phillies are trying to prioritize moving Castellanos and Bohm before making their more serious offers to Schwarber.  This feels like a message for them to wrap that stuff up at the winter meetings and focus on getting his stuff worked out.
