All Star in 2022. Low risk, high reward?

  1. Ah yes, our seemingly annual “comeback candidate” starter that we try to fix with our sub-par pitching coaching. Same vein as Cueto, Syndergaard, Teheran, Cahill, Harvey, etc.

  2. Farewell Big Puma. You were so good for us and then suddenly you weren’t. Maybe you just need the west coast change of scenery

  3. Lmao. Honestly though I think it’s worth it for 2 mil, that’s basically nothing. If he’s even a serviceable #5 that’s worth it. If he can be anything remotely close to his 2022 self it’s a steal.

  4. I mean once upon a time he was very good. Maybe Maddux can bring the good back out.

  5. I don’t mind the signing at all. The problem is that we depend on these dudes to throw x innings. If he doesn’t work out oh well one year deal hopefully we have other guys to rely on.

  6. This is basically just an audition for whoever he’s gonna pitch for next. If he’s pitching good, his next team will be a contender at the trade deadline

  7. It’s a small risk move in terms of price but the worry now goes from 2 to now 3 arms that you’re very uncertain what you’re going to get over the course of a season. Rodriguez comes with potential arm issues, Detmers is returning to a role he struggled so bad he was moved to the bullpen and now Manoah is looking to reclaim a form from 3 years ago.

  8. One of my favorite players when he was locked in. He made baseball fun to watch few years back. Hope he can get back locked in and talkin trash on the mound !

  9. I don’t hate it, it’s not that big of a risk. I just really hope they don’t stop there and continue to make moves.

  10. Honestly it’s not a bad gamble. If he has a good year then he may be traded at the trade deadline for something good… Like Jose Suarez!

  11. Still has a minor league option. Not a guarantee he makes the team out of Spring. I would assume Halos still looking for 1 more starter

  12. Aside from the comedy, there’s nothing wrong with a cheap one year deal. If it doesn’t work out, it probably didn’t affect our ability to sign anyone else. If it does, at least it worked on the 75th time they’ve tried to do this.

  13. If they’re serious about fielding a competitive rotation next season, they’re going to have to add another quality SP.

There’s a whole lot of risk with Rodriguez/Manoah and if one or both of those guys are hurt again, things could get ugly really quick.

Signing someone like Kelly, Bassitt, Littell, etc. and possibly rolling with a six-man rotation might be the smart route.

  14. Low-risk, moderately high reward. $2m so it doesnt really affect the FA budget. How can you hate on this? Even if its dumpster diving, you’re doing it for pennies and you keep other options open. Give me 5 “projects” and we’re looking good if 1 or 2 of them hit lol. I’ll take those odds..

  15. It’s not bad. 1 yr ≈$2 milly. Only 27, could be ass or an asset, either way, not a terrible gamble.
