Blues make SNEAKY good trade… Blues give MULTIPLE surprising updates

The St. Louis Blues make a sneaky good move. As Doug Armstrong announces today, they have acquired a young player that’s going to have a big impact on this roster moving forward. But not only that, we have brutal news coming from the St. Louis Blues on another injury coming to this roster to a key player. We have so much breakdown in this episode, you’re not going to want to miss it. So Darius, let’s just dive straight into it today. And before we get into this trade, we get some bad news around the St. Louis Blues yet again where they announced say that Nathan Walker has been placed on IR with an upper body injury and will be re-evaluated in eight weeks. Now listen, we covered a bit yesterday where we know the injuries continue piling up. Pew Sudter day today. We can see multiple players out there. What is your thoughts on the Aussie coming out of the lineup who’s been having a very big impact on this team? Well, he’s a very very big part of this team and he has been for a long time. He chips in for goals here and there. he gives, you know, 100% effort 100% of the time. And that’s why he’s become a fan favorite here in St. Louis. And again, he’s not going to put up, you know, a crazy amount of points, but even like for his point production this year, nine points in 25 games for a fourth liner and what he brings to a lineup. Like that’s great, right? So he offers really, really good minutes. Uh, you know, he’s trusted by the coaching staff as well. This is a tough blow. And the biggest thing here, you know, you’re losing a bunch of guys. Jimmy Snugru, there’s really a question mark on his return timeline at this point because he has to get surgery, all those things, which I believe he’s getting surgery today at the time we’re recording this. And then when you’re looking at a guy like Nathan Walker now, he is out for at least two months. They’re only going to re-evaluate him in 8 weeks. So, he’s not going to be back for a while. This is a significant injury. There’s been a lot of weird injuries around the league as well. And of course, we covered one of them uh just the other day in Torpjenko, who’s out right now. He should be back soon is what we heard. But this is a tough loss for the Blues. This is a guy who, you know, is a Swiss Army knife of sorts in his own right. We’ve been talking about Sudter is that, but in terms of, you know, you can put this guy on the third line, on the fourth line. You know what he brings. He’s, you know, great motor, 100% effort all the time. This is a tough blow for this team. So, uh, he’ll be back in, you know, just over two months at this point, which is just devastating. He’ll probably be back at some point, maybe in February at this point. And I think the big thing is, listen, with Torpeno out and Nathan Walker, you lose that identity on the fourth line. As you can see from the stats, Nathan Walker last year with 281 hits this year with 95 in the 25 games. As we said, he’s not going to go out and score you 20 goals, but we know what he brings game after game. We’ve even seen Monty himself speak that when they go into games, the fourth line sometimes is what sets them into the mood. They go into a game, they start trailing, the fourth line goes out to get a goal, get a point or hem another team in and you see these big hits setting a momentum shift. So now looking at this, the biggest thing with the team is looking forward. You’re without two out of your three on the fourth line. Pew Sudter’s out. So you’re going to have to move up Bad or someone else. But this is a team that is dealing with a lot of injuries. Tory Karoo was out from the start of the year. Same with Zack Dean. But we’re seeing the injuries pile up on an already struggling team. I think it’s going to get quite interesting on how they handle this. We’re going to see some moves and it kind of ties in to a trade that we did see today where we do see the St. Louis Blues went out to acquire a kill Thomas from the LA Kings. Now with this, a lot of people might know a kill’s name from his heroics during a World Junior tournament. But the big thing with a killer is going into his stats. This is a player with NHL experience. Now, we’re going to get into the second half on what the Blues moved out, but what is your thoughts on them going out to get a guy with NHL experience that’s only 25 years old? And for most people watching this already, you’ve already seen what the return is for the trade. And you’re probably asking yourself, why would they make this trade right now? Well, Akil Thomas has NHL experience. And like you mentioned, he’s had big moments in the past, the World Juniors. That’s where everyone knows him from with that big goal in the 2020 tournament. Uh, but he has NHL experience. He spent some time at the NHL level with the LA Kings. And not only that, throughout junior, except for his first year, his rookie year, he was over a point per game player. He was a fantastic player. Obviously spent some time in the World Juniors, like we mentioned. Uh, and even if you’re a rookie and junior, I mean, you’re still figuring out the league. And then he went on to the AHL, and he’s put up really good numbers in the AHL. He’s dealt with injuries, uh, you know, as well, of course, but he’s put up really good numbers for me at the AHL level. He’s not a point a game player or anything like that, but you know, he’s still putting up really solid numbers and he has that experience of playing in the NHL and wants to probably do that again. I think there’s a real possibility that they made this trade because they can see him at the NHL level. Like he could be playing with all these injuries right now to the Blues in the NHL lineup for the Blues as soon as maybe next game, right? We’ll see what happens in terms of some of the specifics on roster call-ups and stuff like that and the salary cap implications of course, but um we’ll see if they end up making that move. And I I think that he could be playing in the NHL very soon. And I think that’s why they probably made this move over a guy that doesn’t have any NHL experience. And I think the big thing with the kill, this is the team not only dealing with the injuries that we’ve went through over the past couple of days, but there’s a big question mark around this team. We know that Doug Armstrong is taking calls on players. This is the team that’s low in the standings. And as you seen, I flashed Springfield’s also low in the standings. So, the biggest thing is I think this is a culture change. I think bringing in a kill, you get a fresh phrase, not only in the AHL, but if this is a team that’s going to start moving out some of the veteran players, you’re going to have to call up some players. And I think a kill is going to be on that short list to be the first call up where we’re seeing a team wanting to make changes. Maybe a kill comes up in the coming days after just kind of going to Springfield to get some time. But it does go straight into the player that they did trade that yes does have NHL experience the same age. But with Nikita Alexandro, this is a player that maybe hasn’t been just blossoming in the system. Sometimes just a small trade like this and a lot of people are looking and saying, “Hey, this is two AHL players for each other.” But former second round picks that have shown big flashes throughout their careers. I think just a change of scenery sometimes, Darius, is what can change a player’s complete mold. I don’t know if you feel different, but I feel like a kill coming in just signifies that maybe they want to give this guy a chance up. That’s kind of where I’m at with this too, right? When you look at both players, and I know I just mentioned Akil Thomas has NHL experience. So does Alexander Drov, right? Of course, and we talked about it during the summer that he could be a dark horse coming into this year to, you know, maybe not make the team out of camp because there were so many, you know, signings near the end of the summer. uh but you know a guy that does have NHL experience and maybe has just become stagnant in the organization right and same with Akquil Thomas to a degree but he has played in the NHL uh a little bit sooner right so that’s something to keep in mind too but I think you know a change of scenery like you mentioned does a lot for a player sometimes when things have become stagnant in an organization you’re not really moving within the organization right so I think that for Aquil Thomas you know right hand shot all of these things like he’s had big moments in the past this could be something where he comes in and he’s given like a boost. He has a surge right away cuz what if he’s going to play in the NHL right away, right? I think that could be really good and he could offer something for this organization where Alexandrov like I think he’s a great player still, but he’s kind of just been down there. The team hasn’t been playing great. Like if you were to call him up, is he going to give that much of a boost to the team? I don’t know. And maybe Akil Thomas won’t either. But I think it’s an interesting move that Doug Armstrong’s at least trying things without moving out one of the bigger guys just yet. and he’s trying to weather the storm of all these injuries because yet after another disappointing loss, they’re still in the mix, right? It’s hard to make a trade right now because they’re still in the mix. But we’ll see if the season gets out of hand because the injuries continue to pile up. Sudter, you know, we don’t really have an update on him. It sounds like it’s dayto-day. Should be back soon. Of course, Torpachenko should be back soon as well. But then you have Snugroot out of the lineup. Now, you know, there’s a bunch of other players like Nathan Walker, for example, we just talked about earlier in the video. So, injuries are starting to pile up. We’ll see what happens. I think it’s a sneaky good move that could, you know, work out for the Blues. But I mean, fans, what is your thoughts on this? Do you think Akil is a guy that could join this group? We know the team is struggling right now. We know there’s a lot of talks about veterans like Braden Shen himself being moved out. Do you think there’s a bigger picture with this trade or do you think it’s just a change in scenery, hoping the AHL team switches things up? Let us know all your thoughts down in the comments. And speaking of comments, let’s go straight in comments today. I wish they would have just kept Carb up. There is a spot next season. Listen, with Justin Carbell, he is dominating right now in the junior. So, getting him up next year, we know he’s very close and I think another season with this, the World Juniors and everything in between. He’s going to continue developing. But let us know your favorite prospect. Let us know the impact of a kill down in the comments and you could be featured on comments of the day. 1. Buch and Binner are not trade items because they have 0 value to any team. Also, Schenn looks like he was 'switched off' most of the last game versus Ducks.. what was up with that?
Did he take a big hit that I didn't notice or playing through an injury? He seems really out of it also. (Especially since his awful shootout failure)

  2. The Blues are a dump and chase team. They can't skate the puck through the neutral zone. The offense is so predictable. The defense is ok and the goaltending has been below average. It's rough to watch. I wouldn't know where to start if I were army.

  3. Someone tell me the point of this trade for the blues. On paper it doesn't look good at all. We brought Alexandrov up for a year and never played him. Maybe someone wants to give him a shot. But, Thomas doesn't have comparable number so what are we doing. Adding more D to a team that can't score?

  4. This trade will not even move the needle. It's two teams who have two ahl players stuck in the system who figure a change in scenery might help either one. Alexandrov has pretty much same same NHL experience just from prior seasons

  5. Army missed used Alwxandrov. Thomas loved Nicky! Nicky never got a fair shot. He should have been called up BEFORE Dvorsky and Snuggerud. He's a really good top 6 forward completely wasted by Army. He's going to do well on the Kings. STUPID!!

  6. Dump and chase as the poster jert23 mentioned is making the NHL a really boring league. It's the Canadian GM and coaches who preach that. They keep the league from evolving. Europe does not play like that or Russia. It's boring and dumbs down the game. Canadians run the NHL and also ruin it!!!!

  7. I’m just waiting for this team to go on a run and start playing like we saw in the second half of last year. It’s so disappointing to see where we’re at right now after coming into the season with real expectations

  8. I don't think the injuries are going to make a huge difference. This team has bigger issues. Our top players can't finish, power play is atrocious. In my opinion Steve Ott has to go. He's had two years on the bench to try to put this power play together. Montgomery should have brought in all new coaches. This good old boy system is killing us.

  9. I think this was a bad move TBH. But Alexandrov wasn't going to get as many minutes as Thomas will get. It's unfortunate that the team is to this point.
