🚨BREAKING: New Orleans Saints Make a SNEAKY GOOD Signing On The Defense With Beanie Bishop

Beanie Bishop, the cornerback, has signed to the Saints practice squad and I think that it’s a pretty sneaky good move and I’m going to explain why here on Saints Now by Chat Sports. My name is Trizy Trace Jard. Thank you so much for watching and let’s learn a little bit more about the newest member of the Black and Gold. So, he’s a secondyear player, only 25 years old. He was an undrafted free agent out of West Virginia. Also spent some time at Western Kentucky. And for the Pittsburgh Steelers, he played 17 games. He started in six of those and he mostly operated as a slot quarterback. He logged 493 snaps there, but also contributed as a safety. And in 2024, you see the production on your screen. Fairly productive for a rookie. I got to say, that’s pretty impressive. also considering he is an undrafted free agent. But a little bit more about Beanie Bishop. Uh he was named defensive rookie of the month in October of 2024. He earned 2024 Pro Football Riders of America all rookie team honors and he actually has some familiarity with the New Orleans Saints. The cornerback coach Grady Brown. He actually worked with Beanie Bishop in Pittsburgh last year. And for what it’s worth, he can also be a contributor when it comes to special teams as well. He did do a lot of that in college. Now, a little bit of more information that I actually found pretty cool on the New Orleans Saints website adds a little bit of context as to who this player is and what he can contribute to the defense. Because for what it’s worth, I don’t think the Saints defense has been absolutely horrendous, but it’s not like they’ve been amazing and they could do a lot better of a job in pass in in uh covering the pass and defending a pass and rushing the passer and stopping the run. I think there are some areas of the defense that could see some improvement. And I think that Beanie Bishop is a player who could contribute some of those improvements. Look what the New Orleans Saints website had uh written up about this player. His four interceptions as a rookie were tied for the most by an undrafted free agent in 2024 where and there was also the most by a Steel Steelers UDFA in rookie franchise history and he tied for ninth most by an undrafted rookie since the 1970 AFL NFL merger. Pretty cool if you ask me considering he was a rookie and again he’s a UDFA. He was able to make a pretty good impact to the Steelers defense and this year he hasn’t played any football for Pittsburgh. he was released early in the season. I went back and looked at some of the comments and some of the things that Steelers fans said whenever he was released and they were all really, really sad. So, to me, that means, hey, we might have gotten a pretty good player. Maybe a diamond in the rough, if you will. And here’s an updated look at the cornerback depth chart for the New Orleans Saints. Reminder, Beanie Bishop is going to focus and contribute more as a slot cornerback than anywhere else. It’s not like he’s going to operate a ton on the outside. I don’t think he’s going to do a ton as a safety, but considering the fact that Justin Reed is dealing with an injury, you will see a little bit of rotation and a little bit of movement among all the defensive backs. We’ll look at that later on. But for the quarterbacks right now, here are how things shake out and and excuse me, including the guys that are on the practice squad. Shout out to Prize Picks where it’s good to be right now. Friendly reminder in terms of the defensive backs and the defense as a whole, Justin Reed, the safety, he is dealing with a knee injury. Kellen Moore said he expects him to potentially miss some time. So, I don’t think that we’ll see Justin Reed back on the field yet. Whether or not he ends up on IR still TBD, we don’t necessarily ne necessarily know the severity of the injury. That being said, I do think that he’s a player that could come back fairly soon. I don’t know. I don’t want to speculate too much, but considering he’s dealing with the knee injury, you do have to expect the uh defense to rotate around a little bit. And I want to take a look at the defensive back depth chart because I do believe that he’s going to provide some depth at the slot and at the safety position with uh Quincy Riley, Justin Reed, Yonas Sanker, Koolaid McKinley, and Lante Taylor. Those guys are your starters. But I could expect Ugo Amadi to get some run. You could expect Beanie Bishop to potentially be elevated to the game day roster. Jordan Howd and Terrell Burgess, those guys have done a really good job of rotating in and contributing while Justin Reed is missing with the injury. So, with Beanie Bishop, getting back to him, the topic of this video, like I said, provides depth at the slot and at the safety position. It allows Alante Taylor to move around, allows Brandon Staley to get creative in how he uses Alante Taylor and using him in a variety of ways in a different all sorts of different lineups and all sorts of different areas. So, in terms of how does this contribute to the Saints defense, it just opens things up and allows other players to contribute in other ways and contribute in the best ways that they possibly can while providing some depth. So, I think that this is a sneaky good addition for a lot of reasons like we’ve been talking about for the last few minutes. Now, this in my opinion is a very lowrisk, very high reward addition. I don’t see how this doesn’t help out the New Orleans Saints. And to be totally honest, I could see Beanie Bishop being elevated to the game day roster fairly soon. And I do believe that he has the potential to stick around for the New Orleans Saints for quite some time. And let’s say that he is a player that pops off and let’s say that he is a player that does have some really good moments for this team. And maybe that eliminates a need for a defensive back whenever you get to the draft or whenever you get to free agency. Who knows? I think this is a player that you’re not going to have to pay a ton and you could get some really nice return on your investment. So, all in all, I like this addition. I think it’s a sneaky good move and I think that he’s a player that has the proven production and the ability to contribute to this Saints defense. Friendly reminder, 25 years old, secondyear player. He’s somebody who played at a high level for the Pittsburgh Steelers last year. Now, he’s swapping in the black and yellow for the black and gold. And I think that he’s somebody who could make an immediate impact as soon as he gets on the field for game day.
