The Padres found their next STAR…

Padres’s fans, let’s talk about some headlines regarding the future of the Padres’s. Some of the top prospects and names that you got to know or that you at least need to know if you are like me and have hope springing eternal for your friars. What’s going on everybody? Christian Person back with another episode of Padres’s Digest that yes, like I said, is giving into the vicious cycle of we’re going to restructure my brain into the we’re going to figure out the path to which the Padres’s end up as World Series champions even with the given constraints that we have. I want to talk specifically about an article from Kevin AC that has to do with some of our top infielder prospects because I think these are the guys that will have the most immediate impact in the uh the Padres’s overall season. But we got tons of other videos on all the different prospect positions and other positions. So, if you want to hit the subscribe button, you don’t miss a single thing. Also, drop a comment on all of this because prospects are they are a wide lane. It can be these guys are going to actually contribute at the major league level. It can be these guys are going to be in trades and we never see them as Padres’s and these guy or somewhere in between where it’s an up down and a and a sweetener kind of guy deal in the middle. I want to say the headline again though specifically from Kevin AC at the San Diego Union Tribune. The infielders, like I said, to me are the the the core of the Padres’s fabric conversation because realistically, I think that Ethan Salace has catcher locked down. Yes, another one can pop up, but he’s a pretty big catching prospect, quote unquote. So, that’s that position. Uh pitching, you can never have too many, never have enough. We don’t also have and we have other videos on these guys. So that’s why I say um subscribe but we don’t have enough pitching prospects to talk about being like okay the whole future of the rotation is fixed. It is what it is. There is no need to single out somebody to be like hey that’s the guy outfield Tatis and Mel locked up for a minute and then Boriano coming back this year. I think you like I love that. You guys like that to love that from what it tell from what I see in the comment section. So to me that’s conversation is like okay well Perso might come up what like we’re going to need some backup guys but uh I I don’t I don’t see an outfielder necessarily being a part of the conversation. infield those where you get Xander, Manny, Jake are all coming back, but you know, year older, we need a first baseman or we need to move somebody in that equation, probably Croninorth over to first base. And again, I got other videos on the prospecty or the like KBO’s and other free agents to fill some of these voids, but also the Padres’s infield has shown us that you can’t always rely on all of it being 100% all season long. And sometimes you need just like a serviceable. We were hoping for Jose Glaciius, but with a little bit more upside uh type flex dude, just a just a glue guy that bounces around. So, let’s talk about the infielders to me both through that lens and also I think that an 18-year-old short stuff as you’ll see a couple of these guys are is just a pretty big drade piece that you can just be like look this guy can end up mov former shortstop former shortstop Manny former shortstop Jake former shorts like it’s something that I think is the most ubiquitous trait piece so to me all in all the infielders are the most interesting AC list six. I only want to give you three that I really like kind of sunk my teeth into here. First one being uh Kale Fountain 20 as of opening day is going to be his age. And again, as as always, I apologize to any everybody who’s viewing these on phones. If this text gets too small, I’ll give you the TLDDR. He’s young. He’s 20. He is technically the oldest of all the guys I want to talk about. He’s listed as a third baseman here. He had ACL surgery coming out of high school into what was his first year of being a professional and so that limited his at bats. I think that ACL surgery as a pitcher is sort of a like hey that’s a huge landmark in career. ACL pitcher ACL surgery as a hitter and again leave a comment on this if you disagree but ACL as a like a third baseman to me is kind of okay. That’s a freaky accidenty thing and that’s not really a position that you always need to do a ton of throwing all you can survive one of those and not have it necessarily hugely downgrade your career prospects. Also, I think just as a third baseman, you are also always coded to be somewhat of a first baseman as well. So, these numbers not fantastic, but not a huge sample size. The thing that to me is just that down there at the bottom is he is the Nebraska High School all-time home runs leader. So he is a he is a 63 225 slugger who’s 20 who’s coming off of a full year of rehab into a short little condensed Lake Elsenor appearance at the end of the year where he like he he he hit he hit the ball upwards he has launch angle I very small sample size with which to come before you and say oh my gosh if we put this guy in spring training he would absolutely win the first base job and hit 25 home runs at the m I unlikely to have that happen. But to me, if we’re talking about something where the Padres’s are going to always need a DH, Padres’s are always going to need a power guy. And if he can be 21, you know, next season, 20 this season, get a little bit of the major league experience. Like a guy who’s able to just kind of play the corners could D8. Oh, there’s the slash guy that I’m talking about. There’s the glue guy that I’m talking about. So e even though he’s not the shortstop of the group, the scale fountain being a power hitter is something that I am very interested in. And also just the Padres’s need power. I’ll take whatever I can get. Even if he’s not going to hit that high of a batting average, I’ll take sometimes just a guy who can do the Kyle Schwarber vibes of just crushing baseballs with upward softball joking trajectory. Next guy down on the list, Jorge Quintana. He is going to be 18 as of the opening day. uh he is a shortstop and that’s why I was saying that’s kind of the most ubiquitous trade piece. So if we’re not talking about an 18-year-old short like if LDV couldn’t break the Padres’s roster last year it’s not necessarily likely that oh my gosh if Croninworth moves over and if Xander gets injured then then here’s the scenario where Kontoan is like starting and hitting 350 and all that. It is something where the Padres’s, we’ve talked a lot about the uncomfortable nature of this roster starting to age and starting to get really expensive. And so either new ownership’s going to come in and outright just like fund all of this and it’s going to end up ballooning out or something’s going to happen. Whether that’s some crazy mega trade package that’s like oh my gosh Xander and Fernando go to the Yankees for Spencer Jones and I got like I got videos on this or if it’s something more along the lines of just like eventually the Croninworth deal gets off the books and then the Padres need to promote internally to fix some of this. There will be in a couple of years like the 2829 season some more financially based conversations and in the 2829 season Jorge Quintano will be somewhere between 21 and 22 years old in that time frame to be more mature of a prospect of like hey this guy could actually still be within the relative scheme of like shorter term a major league baseball player for us. Also just kind of of note, he was part of that Nester Cortez JP Sears dealing unless JP Sears is going to come back and have a fantastic year this year. Uh we need him to do well for us in order to make that trade be a uh not complete flop in our face. Last guy to talk about is Johan Dea Cruz. Look at that. Another 18-year-old shortstop. Uh this one is a free agent international snee. 260 batting average isn’t is interesting of it being the highest, but it’s he’s got a nice little on base percentage there and a good amount of RBI’s. But it’s the 46 walks along with 45 strikeouts that makes him a confusing but interesting prospect of having a guy who both swings a ton but also knows how to draw a fair amount of walks. if he can get those strikeouts down while maintaining the walks having a contact and walk like not to say that anybody is the next of anybody but that gives us kind of Luis Oraha’s overall productivity vibes. Hey, I like a guy who just gets me bases, who gets me who moves the conversation forward and if nothing else just, you know, can can get a run in, can be a run that gets in, just is a productive moving the piece forward, not striking out a ton, ball in play, getting walks, moving runners over vibes. So, these three guys to me represent probably the most likely thing is a trade that AJ can do down the line somewhere. So, I I think that they are all interesting names to really focus on. What’s their progression going to be like in spring? Are the Padres’s going to feature them in any, you know, sort of like we’ll give like, yeah, give a little opening day or a little spring training, you know, major league nod to one or two of these guys. I don’t know. We’ll see soon enough. But just these are the names. Let’s start talking about them. Let’s start thinking about them. Let’s start figuring out how they actually kind of fit into the Padres’s plan and ecosystem. That’s what I’m saying. Drop a comment, let me know. We got plenty of more videos coming for you all off season as well. Talk to you guys next time.

  1. I’m pretty sure I read that the Padres farm system was either 29th or 30th and you’re saying this guy is that good I don’t think that’s accurate sorry!
