BREAKING: The Jays just FLEECED the MLB…
We have some breaking news. The Toronto Blue Jays have just fleeced the MLB and very surprising fashion. They go out and not only get another starting pitcher, but they get a KBO superstar. We’re to break down who this player is and discuss what it means going forward. Also break down the contract as it is a complete finesse. But not only that, we have a ton of other updates and this signing as they add yet another starting pitcher to their long list of them means more moves are coming. A ton to go over today, folks. Before we get in all, a very quick reminder to hit that subscribe button. This is the place to be for Daily Jay’s content. Folks, wasn’t expecting to make this video. This is my third video of the day, and more news has just dropped surrounding a player that his name wasn’t really brought up by Jay’s fans until a couple hours ago with Ben Nicholson Smith’s report. But just then, a minute ago, Jeff Passen, right-hander Cody Pon, and the Toronto Blue Jays are finalizing a three-year, $30 million contract pending a physical. And if you’re unfamiliar with him, I will dive into him deeply in this video. The AL champs get the KBO MVP who went 17-1 with a 1.89 RA and struck out 252 in 180 innings. Folks, this is wild, right? And for a bunch of reasons. And this means that quite frankly, the best way to put it, things are about to get crazy for the Toronto Blue Jays. But if you’re unfamiliar with Cody Ponz, he played uh you know at one point in the MLB back in 2021 2021. We’ll dive into his stats and all those things. He is a stud, right? And they got him for a steal. $10 million a year in a world where Devin Williams obviously much more established, but he is a reliever. I mean, a guy coming off a fiveyear season is getting, you know, 15 million a year. You get a starter that I have full faith in, especially if this front office is going after him. This is the steel so far and value-wise for me of the offseason for the Jays thus far. Now, there’s obviously a lot to dive into here and I’m sure a lot of you guys I some of you might not be as familiar. You know, I obviously did a ton of research. He was kind of on the radar, but you can see here and this is from October and there’s a lot of things to go over and there’ll be a lot of different videos coming out for you guys, but Cody Pon dominated the KBO this season. He posted a 30.3% strikeout to ball uh you know ratio across over 180 80 innings and winning the triple crown since his last MLB outing which was in Pittsburgh in 2021. If you’re going and looking at baseball reference and you see that he had a 70 or whatever it was with Pittsburgh. He has completely changed his arsenal. He has completely revolutionized the way he pitches. Completely different pitcher. He has seen a two mile per hour uptick on his fast ball and transformed his change up into an elite offering. He is a pending free agent this winter who is now no longer a pending free agent because the Jays got him. An absolute stud who has completely transformed everything about his game. And let’s look into his stats. So if you start, and there’s a ton of them. You can see with Pittsburgh, he went 0 and6 with a pretty uh rough seven RA. And you might be thinking, why did they give this guy, you know, a ton of money? We’ve seen it multiple times where I mean we can even think back to Eric Lowour who had some good years with the Brewers then went overseas and then came back last year for the Jays you know after struggling prior in the MLB and did really really good for the Jays last year for Cody Pon he’s only 31 years old he went to the KBO and put up an unbelievable season with a 1.89 RA but even looking in 2024 in the JPL he had a 2.25 25 year. This is a guy who’s been pitching really good now for a little bit of time. And obviously between his two teams in 2024, he struggled a little bit, you know, 4.61 RA for 10 million a year. There’s really no risk here, right? That’s like a little bit more than what Santon Deere got paid last year. The risk is pretty low. This team has enough money to shell out in theory risky contracts like this, which isn’t even that risky. And we’ve seen more times than not pitchers like this translate from the KBO to the MLB in a very solid way. And I’m super excited about this. Here are some of his career accolades and awards. He pitched a no-h hitter in the NPB in 2022. He won KBO All-Star in 2025 and KBO MVP in 2025 last year as well. He’s coming off his best season as a professional. He had an insane insane year and I’m just over the moon about it. like genuinely and this is someone who I’ve had on my radar a little bit again. He’s a very, very good pitcher, especially last season. And you can see here, he also won, I’m probably going to mispronounce this, but the Troy Dong Juan Award, which is the best starting pitcher in that league. So, in the KBO, which is, I think, the equivalent of the Sai Young award, right? Unbelievable. And this report dropped, I was going to have a video for you guys actually tonight on or tomorrow morning. This was from Ben Smith around two or three hours ago. He said, “It’s also notable that Monday merked the official opening for Cody Pon, so it only opened today.” and he had an insane insane season. He said, “Thanks to their growing presence in the Pacific Rim, the Blue Jays have had a chance to do plenty of background work on Pon who’s now seen as a likely candidate to land a multi-year deal.” So, this wasn’t just the Jays for those who think, you know, it’s a bad contract. Some industry obser observers, sorry, suggest that Pon’s market could move quickly. Sands of reason that the Blue Jays will remain involved there. So, I mean, shout out to Benson Smith right on the money for it. They have been super active in the Pacific Rim and trying to get players like that. But folks, they are going after more and this is for their rotation. Now, I’m of course I’m looking at tweets and things like this as I’m recording. Now, something else to keep in mind is that Cody Pon did add a splitter in Korea as one of his top, if not his top, secondary pitch. So, he added a ton of things. They now have three starters in their rotation who throw splitters. And this is incredible, right? And I mean it’s happened now a couple times. Guys coming from coming back from Korea after taking a bit of a hiatus in the MLB. Think about Mel Kelly. Obviously that’s a fantastic example. And hopefully Cody Ponds can, you know, do what he did. There’s also guys like Josh Limbol Lind Blum, sorry, who came back and struggled a little bit. Eric Fetty was really good and then struggled a little bit now towards the tail end of his career. This is wild. And what does it mean going forward, folks? I mean, things are happening. This was the graphic from before they got Cody Pon. They might believe and there’s been some rumblings about Jose Burios being unhappy. A lot of different things here. Jose Brio’s trade is possible now or someone in the starting rotation because you have CE, you have Gosman, you have Bieber, you have Y Savage. Who’s going to win out that fifth rotation spot, that fifth starting pitching spot? Ben Smith confirms that they are using him as a starter. They’re not using him as a reliever. This has opened up things to get absolutely crazy, right? And this is how a World Series runner up, I guess you want to call it, that should be moving. You’re going out and getting the guys you want. It is December 2nd. Winter meetings start in 6 days and they are making moves that are telling of what this offseason is going to be like this point. Go out and get Kyle Tucker. Go out and get, you know, Bobette. Get all of them. I am over the moon. And again, I’m going to have a full video covering this as more news comes out probably tomorrow. Stay tuned for some live streams. Someone’s going to have to be let go of this rotation here. Ben Nichols Smith reported that they aren’t looking for a six-man rotation. What’s next? I’m sure there’s going to be some crazy things happening. He’s going to be in contention for a starting spot. Is he going to take Brios’s spot? Who knows? But then you have Eric Lowour as your backup. Is there a need for Brios at this point anymore? All of these are questions that have to be answered. But what we do know is that Cody Pon is an absolute beast. 180 pitches, strikes out a ton. Insane RA completely rejuvenized and revolutionized rather his arsenal. Added a splitter. The third pitcher now in the Jays in the starting rotation who has a splitter. Added 2 m an hour. He can throw 97. What a steal. For $10 million a year. Absolutely unbelievable. Folks, let me know down below what your thoughts are on this. He also pitched a bit in the uh you know the NPB which he struggled a little bit more on. So there’s somewhere to be a little bit concerned. You can look at there the difference between NPB and KBO. But either way, he looked great. And let me know down below what your thoughts are on this. It is a steal either way simply for the fact that $10 million a year. That is nothing for this Toronto Blue Jays team. See you guys later. Peace.
Nick Gosse breaks down the Toronto Blue Jays signing Cody Ponce and discuss how it is a steal for the team.

Fleeced the mlb is crazy considered he’s 1-7 5.86 era😂 I mean, maybe he’s better but he’s a lottery ticket here. You are acting like you just signed skubal 😂 like I get it. You’re a fan and you’re excited but have an ounce of realism in your takes.
KBO is kinda low tier
I personally think they start the season with Yesavage in AAA , hes got such a unique arm angle lets keep him away from all the american league teams all season til the rosters expand then bring him up lets not let teams get used to his arm angle just yet
STOP CLICKBAITING. You guys literally know nothing about baseball. The KBO is not a great league to source talent from. Especially pitching. Just look at Erick Fedde, Chris Flexin, etc,
This guy sounds like he could be a good one. Now we won't have to worry about the Jays needing to call the police in to take Shearzer out of the game. Bassitt was pitching too many not so good games last years, but I'd like him as a 8th inning guy. Now we can focus on a Closer and signing Bichette or Tucker or both. No more videos about Jays in on this starter or that starter. We have 8 starters now.
Trevor Bauer as a closer would be sweet at a cheap price.
Happy Days Jays Get the Ponce. Sit on it..
Fleeced who ? Can you guys fuck off with the stupid captions ? Seriously
Never heard of him until now, but if he can start some games and do well, it's all good. The starting rotation looks good, now we need a reliable closer.
Lol..u kill me…lol..was in Pittsburgh 2 yrs ago with an era of 5.87…lol. Do your homework first…your better then this!!
He’ll get rocked in this league , that league he plays in is like an amateur compared to the MLB,
It’s going to be difficult to predict how he plays out in the AL East. He’s a completely different pitcher since going overseas but it’s not exactly the MLB. As long as this doesn’t change the Jays getting that one big bat.
Whats a KBO?
our new closer
Bo Bichette is becoming a Dodger!!! 😊😊😊😊😊😊
Ponce will win the Cy Young
The BJs still suck. 😳🤡🤯🥸🥶
Let’s see how he does in spring training til I get excited about this signing. Little needs to add a new pitch this off season as well.
No one , I mean no one should be slagging Berrios. Berrios has been nothing about a class act in Toronto. Yes, I do think he will have a bounce back next year. He is a proud, hard working guy ! I will be sad if he is traded ! Has worked hard for the Jays ! Why sign a starting pitcher when they NEED A CLOSER !! STRANGE ! EVEN IF POUNCE IS THAT GOOD !
I know this is an odd thing to comment on but I just subscribed to you so my first and only request is that you fill the seems (just the ones that show the black spacing) in the wall tiles behind you with white caulking. its a shaper look. 😉
Hope he pans out, but 12.6 SO9 is the highest of his career. He was very average to bad from 2021 to 2024. But could be a great value. At worst, he's a 6th starter b/c someone always gets injured.
Who doesn’t make the 40 man?
Train keeps rolling
nice signing. even if he struggles as starting pitcher he looks to be solid relief pitcher.
Yeah…but the Korean League.
Are you kidding me? An absolute stud???…this is a 31 year old who had one good year in a league that's probably equivalent to AA. 3 years @10mil is absurd.
You're getting way too excited for what is essentially a roll of the dice.
