I thought it would’ve ended with baker mayfield. Considering he did take Cleveland back to the playoffs for the first time in years. And won a playoff game for them for the first time in years. Yet I see he’s still on the jersey and the curse has continued.

  1. It’s crazy how many of these names I don’t remember. Gonna need a new jersey now to add Gabe and Sanders.

  2. Eh it should have ended with baker. Even if he didn’t end up playing here that long I’d say he was here and good long enough to separate the QB eras this jersey covers

Like what’s the cutoff for a QB retiring this thing? 6 years? 10+? An MVP?

  3. Beat the Steelers in the playoffs and nearly beat the Chiefs. There’s no way we’d unfairly toss someone in the dumpster almost immediately after doing that. /s

  4. Shedeur could at least be the qb for a few years, even if he never becomes very good.

But trading Baker for Watson (essentially) is the type of thing franchises have a hard time getting over. Just imagine if we had Baker this year, when the division winner might not even hit 10 wins. It is hard to stomach.

  5. Throw the ball, on time, to the WR who is WIDE OPEN.  Even baker struggled to do it consistently while in Cleveland which is why he was sent elsewhere.  Team hindsight can’t wrap their minds that his success now may not be relevant to the conversation at the time we made the decision to move on.

  6. Have a front office build a competent team develop players and have some continuity so we can properly evaluate qbs in the first place 🤷‍♂️ I dunno I’m just spit balling here

  7. You can’t, Mayfield was there for a bit and he’s still just a name on a jersey like this

You gotta win MVP and a SB or something

  8. 2nd contract / the definitive starter moving forward that actually looks decent on the field. Past that, I’m not convinced a QB alone will fix the Browns problems. With how long this issue has lasted for, I think it’s a top down issue that comes from the very top.

  9. Multiple playoff runs, meaning bare minimum a first round win each time.

Baker should’ve ended the curse but the front office/ownership decided to jettison a playoff winner in exchange for a court case and robbed us of the end of the curse. To me it wouldn’t matter if he never won a Super Bowl as long as he started several more years after that and won a playoff game at least once more. Consistent contender status would end that jersey imo.

  10. It would take stop giving this guy attention?

Being a walking meme is cool and all but i’m not sure what QB’s from 26 years ago have anything to do about anything now.

  11. I mean I’m sorry but it is pretty clear that Mayfield is not like the others on that Jersey. Only one to win a playoff game. Best regular season record at 11-5 in 2020. Won Rookie of the Year (PFWA), Offensive Rookie of the Year (PFF) and set an NFL rookie record with 27 passing TD’s (in 14gms) And of course has had a lot of success since leaving the Browns winning division titles, playoff games, making pro bowls and throwing a massive amount of touchdown passes.

But I guess even if the team itself botched their handling on the player it counts as part of the QB Curse. And we certainly screwed that situation up. Especially by trashing his character to the media and diluting the value of our own asset. We turned the #1 overall pick into a stray 6th rounder…and frankly he could’ve still been useful for the 11gms Watson was suspended. But they just had to go nuclear on the guy.

  12. They couldn’t make it work with Mayfield. At this point I don’t think they are interested in finding that franchise QB🤷🏻‍♂️

  13. play for 6 or 7 years or better, or better yet, get two guys doing that back to back. then it will seem silly to come back to it.

wouldn’t be the worst thing to at some point get passed up either. we’re at the most with 42(?), but half the league has over 20 in that time, and there are a handful around 30. it might only take on 5 year starter for us to come back to the pack.

  14. It ended with Baker, who is a bonafide franchise QB but there are too many intellectually challenged people in the Browns fanbase that bow down to Kevin Stefanski and Andrew Berry each night.

  15. It’s an easy misery masterbation fluff piece for writers , they will never get rid of it
